My grandfather, aged 16, alongside two of his brothers, 15 and 19, were conscripted in 1938 and fought through the war against Japan. His younger brother died from Japanese artillery during the battle of Wuhan; he said he couldn't find his body as the shell had just shattered him into pieces. By the end of the war, his older brother was already a company commander.
They then participated in the following civil war, during which their units got separated during the campaign of Huaihai. The battalion of his older brother managed to break out of the Communists encirclement during their final retreat and eventually went to Taiwan with the ROC government. But my grandfather was captured and was then enlisted into the PLA straight away due to his age and experiences.
Grandfather later was sent to Korea as a part of the PVA during the Korean War in 1950. And that's where he lost his entire company of men and three of his fingers from frostbite. His older brother settled in Taiwan and pursued a career in the police force, in which he eventually became the deputy chief of the police of Taoyuan.
He and his brother were eventually reunited in 1987 after 38 years of separation as improved diplomatic relations between China and Taiwan opened a route for a large number of people who sought to visit their separated close relatives in mainland China after decades of separation. Sadly, their Mother passed away just a year before their reunification, that she wouldn't live to see her eldest son ever again since he left home in 1938.
Grandfather passed away in 2009. RIP 爷爷, his entire life was basically a chapter in Chinese history, a page that was filled with pain and despair, but yet with strength and resilience. Hope he is in a better place, now, reunited with all his brothers, beside his mum, in a world where there is no war and hunger.

A significant reason for Japan's failure is attributed to the scarcity of local resources, which are insufficient to meet its extensive military manufacturing needs.

I think Japan would have won if not for China. The main reason Japan lost the war was that it started a war with US, and the reason for the war with US was the oil shortage caused by US's oil export restrictions. Without the Sino-Japanese war, Japan would have been able to control Southeast Asia earlier than in historical fact, and if that had happened, the oil shortage would have been resolved and there would be no reason for Japan to go to war with US. And this would affect the war between Germany and the USSR.

Even after the Soviet invasion and second bombing, Japan was unwilling to surrender unconditionally. Their original terms had been:
      * The Emperor remains in power.
      * No foreign occupation of Japan, Korea or Formosa (Taiwan).
      * Self administration of disarmament.
      * Self administration of war crimes accusations.
After Nagasaki, the Emperor ordered a surrender offered on only the first term. That was rejected and followed by a leaflets dropped from bombers, informing the Japanese people of the atomic bombings, the surrender negotiations and the demand for unconditional surrender. It also threatened more nuclear strikes if Japan did not surrender. At that point, members of the Big Six basically told the Emperor that if Japan did not surrender immediately, he was likely to be face either a popular rebellion (demanding surrender) or a military coup (to halt the negotiations).
As to the casualties of the bomb, it is worth keeping in mind the situation on the mainland. The Japanese occupation of Asia was incredibly brutal, and in 1945 it ramped up to new levels. On average, 20,000 civilians were executed and another 80,000 died due to conditions imposed by the occupation every week. A two week delay in the end of the occupation (and ability to deliver relief) would have resulted in as many civilian deaths as the bombs (more if the bombs were taken off the table and Hiroshima released as a firebombing target). Plans for an invasion estimated the Japanese would resist for several months.

@@Yahtzee1Your rebuttal is littered with erroneous assumptions suggesting op to be giving an inaccurate summary without providing any correction or alternative set of events.
Japan's generals are cited as having surrendered and supported the Emperor's choice due to the incursion and subsequent battles over Manchuria and northern China, which involved the defeat and capture of over 700,000 Japanese troops, more than all other stationed regions Japanese troops were contained in (combined if I'm not mistaken).
The events started nearly weeks before the official declaration of surrender and was even earlier than when the word of surrender reached the mainland.
Additionally, before the nukes were released and hundreds of thousands of civilians were murdered, Japan's military leaders and Emperor had agreed they should seek an end to the war through conditional surrender (due to the contested land China was able to hold and the stretched forced in south/southwestern China), following the nuking of Hiroshima the Emperor was still confident that Japan could reach a desirable outcome, this continued to be a factor following the second nuking of the densely populated city Nagasaki, but with the advancements made by the SU on the nights end of August 8th, it was made clear to the Emperor and his inner circle over the course of the days after that conditional surrender was unachievable and that any leverage Japan once had was lost with Soviet involvement and the consequent collapse/constriction of Japanese held territory that receded back to the mainland of Japan.
      One event murdered 400,000 civilians
The other event involved the capture of more than 700,000 japanese soldiers.
You seem to be the bias interlocutor from your lack of effort put into the eye asbestos that is your response, which is even more generalized, thought lacking and empty than the original commentor's, who at least went through the effort of mentioning events. I truly hope this is bait, otherwise your comment is entirely redundant and not only based in fallacies that the US played a significant role but holds no true purpose in existing.

Japan before the global economy and trade did not have a lot of natural resources, they were lacking in oil and steel.
Besides resources the Japanese army and navy were actually extremely divided and would actively sabotage each other and themselves and rarely cooperated for anything. They still did remarkably well on their own but it is part of the reason why the land invasion in China couldn't be sustained as the Navy straight up couldn't give a shit to send supplies by ships lmfao which meant their logistics is severely screwed.

It is worth pointing out that the two nuclear bombs dropped by the Americans were not the primary reason for ending the war. Once the Soviet Red Army decided to enter Northeast China to confront the Japanese forces, Japan was already destined to lose the war. However, the Americans were very strategic; in the final moments of the war, they dropped these two nuclear bombs, thus securing the right to prosecute war criminals after the war. Nevertheless, Japanese war criminals were never truly tried. Unlike Germany, Japan has not undertaken a serious reflection on its actions and still attempts to shed its identity as a defeated nation. Japanese leaders regularly pay tribute to these war criminals, attempting to revive militarism.

Japan had known the war was lost for YEARS. The question wasn't about losing, it was about at what costs. Japan's goal was to "bleed the Allies white" by making their advances as costly as possible so they could get more favorable terms to end the war. Nukes basically destroyed that strategy because the US could destroy their cities and armies without receiving any casualties.
Soviet invasion was influential and did push some hardliners into the surrender camp, but it was hardly decisive because the Soviets lacked the amphibious capability to invade Japan.

There he became the de-facto leader and layed foundation for the modern Taiwan as an independent country/rebelious province (Depending on how you see them), since Chiang-Kai-Shek didn't care about the remnants of National army and simply stole the money reserve for himself. Then Chiang-Kai-Shek arrived to Taiwan and Yan Xishan instantly lost his position, and was forgotten to history by most. A man who always made the best decision for the small province he controlled, willing even to cooperate with the Japanese in order to keep it prosperous and neutral, and who achieved many successes in his governship of both Shanxi and Taiwan, earning the name of model governor for that previous achievement. Nowadays recognised by People's Republic of China as a governor who made correct decisions in stopping a plague that was spreading in Shanxi and into other regions of China.

The original plan of the United States is to make Japan an agricultural country, which declared surrender in 1945.
However, after World War II, the world began the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, and as a result, the Korean War began in 1950.
At this time, the United States completely revised its plan to turn Japan into an agricultural country and built military factories and industrial complexes in Japan that were necessary for the Korean War. Japan was very lucky to achieve industrialization because of the Korean War.
Originally, the Republic of Korea should not have been divided, but Japan, a defeated country, should have been divided. Japan did not become a divided country thanks to Korea's role as a breakwater in the Cold War era.
After the Korean War ended in 1953, Korea, whose entire territory was in ashes, focused its education and science on the younger generation.
The characteristics of the Republic of Korea were sincerity, responsibility, and above all, patriotism that loves the Republic of Korea. The Republic of Korea has finally become an advanced country.
The Republic of Korea has been a great power since 2000 years ago and has had a brilliant history, civilization, and high-end social system, and has returned to its original position.

1910. Japanese occupation of the Korea (Chaoxian 朝鮮 , Real historical name - Chinese territory before 1910). Japan kills local Chinese officials (some Chinese escape back to other cities in China).
The Japanese abolished Chinese characters 漢字 in Korea (Chaoxian 朝鮮) . Korean language and characters (invention of the 15th century) of indigenous language began to popularize on the Korea ( Chaoxian 朝鮮 ) .

The United States did not want China to take back the territory of the Chaoxian Peninsula 朝鮮半島 (Korean Peninsula) and North vietman . So China and the United States had a war on the Chaoxian Peninsula 朝鮮半島 (Korean Peninsula) and eventually split.
1950. With the help of the USA. Become an independent country (North & South), dominated by the Korean ethnic (white clothes Ethnic白衣民族). The official language is Korean language and Korean characters, which is only 70 years of korean history.
*** In the 15th century "Korean characters"( real history name 諺文 ). Created by local Chinese officials and Chinese scholars. It is used for local indigenous people and slaves (they speak Korean language).
