I bought a ford focus and it had terrible engine noise. This video showed mr how easy it was. I replaced the right engine motor mount in literally 10 minutes, started it up and the noise and vibration is gone! Thank you!
@@BigEightiesNewWave i don't know, there was no brand name, just a set that I bought from Amazon. It came with 2 engine mounts and the tranny mount. I only replaced the one engine mount and tranny mount. Didn't replace the dogbone one under the car. Haven't had a problem so far. I heard horror stories of them going bad really quick, but I've been good
The best and most complete explanation. One question: Before removing the motor support, is it necessary to support the motor from below so that it does not fall?
Thank you. Yes you will need to support the motor. If not it will wedge the mount in place. It won't drop far but you will need to lift it back up to get the mount off. Thanks for watching.
Torque spec Two nuts closest to engine (grey in color in vid) 65 flbs Three bolts (on black bracket) 35 flbs Center bolt for new mount snug tight to stop, then half turn
I have a 2003 ford focus (europe) 1.6 16v. Every time I press the accelerator sharply, I hear a clicking noise from the front right. Is that sound from the motor mount?
There is a 23$ mount on Amazon, just got it. Works perfect looked just like the same part. My mount was broke in half. Now Can't even tell my car's running at a stop light.
Thats awesome. If your torque mount goes out check out my other video. The part is pricy but worth the money. It works like a factor part besides the site saying it is for racing.
Thanks for the great vid man! Ill be trying to tackle this on my o3 on Sunday. I know you mentioned not using anything besides the ford mounts? What is your thoughts on any mounts from say oreillys or another parts depot?
To be honest with you they are all crap including the factory ones. I started to switch over to the Steeda mounts. www.steeda.com/2000-2004-ford-focus-engine-mounts I replaced the torque mount last year and love it. It rode a little rough for about 3 weeks(like I never changed it) but once it broke in its perfect. Here is a link to their website. They aren't super cheap but honestly I am on my 3rd one to date. Next one is getting converted. It only takes like 3 minutes to do the whole job so its not bad. Good Luck.
Sounds like its your mounts. If it kind bangs when you put it in gear then its your torque mount. I have a video on that and the part that I highly recommend. usually the problem is the engine mount. When mine went bad the vibrations seemed to be more on the passenger side. but you will feel it through the steering wheel. If it's extreme then it could be all of them. Ford is known to have horrible mounts that don't last. I replaced my torque mount with the cheap ones and it lasted like 3 months pay the money for performance ones if possible.
I tried to install one but I noticed that one of the bolts on the engine is broken and just one is holding the motor mount. The video shows that there are two. What should I do ?? :(
You will most likely need to get the remaining part of the bolt out with a bolt extractor then replace that bolt. You can easily get another bolt at a junkyard. Getting the broken out bolt will be the most difficult. Not knowing exactly which bolt you are talking about I hope that this helped.
Dave Medicus I have a 2000 Focus. I'm trying to replace the idle pulley & run in to the motor mount bracket & frame for clearance. So, can I just remove the passenger side motor mount bracket only, so I can jack up the motor for that extra 1/2inch clearance, or do I need to remove both motor mounts? Thanks
You will be fine with just taking off the one as long as the engine is supported properly. do not put too much pressure on the underside of the engine. (just enough to hold it)
Have you replaced the transmission mount or the rear insulator/torque strut yet? I've had to replace all 3 mounts on my '01. The torque strut is the easiest, about 15 minutes once you get the car on ramps. Anchor brand mounts don't last, i've done the torque strut twice and the engine mount 3 times. Genuine parts next time, unless I'm broke.
Yes I have done all three. I actually just finished editing the trans mount video to be posted next. I think the next time I have to do this I will put on the performance mounts for about the same price. I could sacrifice a little more vibrations if I don't have to do these every 30k. Thanks for watching.
An impact gun works well when its off. If you don't have one sometimes its easier to loosen all of the bolts while its still attached giving you some resistance.
You failed to mention that the motor mount bolts should be torqued and what the torque should be. The motor should be jacked up using a block of wood between the the jack and the motor on the edge of the oil pan as this is the strongest point.
I would look for performance mounts then. I changed my torque mount to a performance one and its amazing. I went after market and got 2 months out of it. Yes the price is like 5 times the price of one at Auto Zone $20 but I only had to do it once. They say you will feel vibration because they are performance but that was only for like 2 days. Now I don't even notice it. just my opinion.
Nhan Ha the only other way is to use a lift from the top. All I used it for was to maintain the position and I displaced the weight from a single point on top of having a rubber spacer.
I've changed this mount several times, supporting the engine with a block of wood and a floor jack is an acceptable way to do it and is in the Chilton's manual for this car.
Shallwe Negger Just finished all three mounts... Transmission mount under the air box was the WORST. Whole transmission shifted towards the rear, had to leverage it back while reinstalling the new mount to get the center nut to protrude through for the 21mm nut. Where would YOU jack/support the engine from? Instead of hating, offer some sort of alternative maybe...? I’ll be waiting on your video.
IT IS NOW $128.80 but TASCA charges too much for shipping. $35 for a small part is a rip-off. I have my parts shipped to Sunrise Ford in Fontana and pick up no shipping fees. Their prices are cheaper than TASCA considering the TASCA shipping-fee-scam. TASCA is not a Ford dealer , they are a Ford Parts shipping-fee scam posing as a low price Ford parts supplier IMEO

What a hero. You just saved me 20 minutes searching. Thanks!
Very clear instructions and video...this is I guess can apply to 2000 to 2004 Ford focus
Thank you. This will be exact for the 2000-2004 but will be extremely similar to other years. It’s basically just a different mount in that location.
I have a 2003 ford focus (europe) 1.6 16v. Every time I press the accelerator sharply, I hear a clicking noise from the front right. Is that sound from the motor mount?
No the motor mount would be a vibration issue. clicking sounds like a half shaft or something in the engine.

Great video! Im going to be doing this on my 2002 Ford Focus SE wagon Zetec 5-speed.
Thanks

Paul1958R thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed this video. Good luck with your project. Left me know if you have any questions.
The car jack has to be under the oil pan then do 2 pumps to hold engine ? Then change the motor mount
Ok cool thanks man, do you have other videos like how to change a transmission fluid or rotors
Yes. I have a manual transmission fluid change video on my channel.
Nice ! Should the engine be raised??
silver you will need to just stabilize the motor where it’s at.

@@DaveMedicus If not the part of the cover that the stud goes into is replaceable. It does NOT screw directly into the engine block.
how do you check or inspect for badness, visual or...?
Usually leaking oil of a hard vibration when you touch it. Thanks for watching!

@@DaveMedicus thank you, didn't have an impact but was able to do just that and get it off. Great video and tips thanks so much!!!
your prop rod insert is missing like all of them. I just got one at Sunrise for $1.69 no shipping fees.
Hey, mine too. Unfortunately, so is the prop rod. Any ideas, since I can't find a first gen Focus at any of the junkyards around here?
Mine is on the left side. It's not missing.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I am glad that it helped you.
FYI, the dealer I went to today told me that they don't have them at all anymore, so aftermarket or "shelved new" is the only option.

...not a good idea to support the engine at the oil-pan. If something goes wrong, the oil-pan would be crushed. Find a stronger point of support.

Dave did it right , it is only a little pressure to keep engine from shifting. Oil pan will not crush from that.
@@XxHyJyNxX there is a video on that , use a ratchet strap and snug it up before the bolts come out. Trans will then not shift on you.
If I get the one at the yard , I will just leave the bracket on and put whole thing on mine.
I don’t trust a junk yard mount.
