What's up gang! Some notes: The hurricane is now a tropical storm and still lingering just south of here. Thank goodness! Thank you all for your incredible support! I appreciate it greatly!
Great stuff Curt, I was monitoring it over the last couple of days. We had our own hurricane - Ophelia in Ireland this year that caused a lot of damage. There was no rain however so it was mostly fallen trees and some damaged roofs.
I was adding a reply when "check the lume" came on. It almost finished before I realized what was going on. I had to rewind it to watch it again. Lol. I'm happy I found this channel man! Not only are your videos informative, they are pretty damn entertaining as well. Keep it up!
Good timing. I have had my eyes on this watch for a while and will be going to Japan next month. Your review has just confirmed what I had already decided, to buy one.
I agree Curt, this is one amazing diver here! Hard to beat! Great & thorough review, and also very entertaining as always! You have a gift for what you do, and the best watch channel on YT! Love the antics of Uncle Jimmy & Ted also, they are so funny, but you have to be careful. Pretty soon they're going to want their own show and YT channel! ;-) Keep up the great work!
Great watch Sir. And a great video. My Samurai Save the Ocean has a similar gradient dial, the blue going into black, and that is very captivating in person.... 6R15, you have to love that. My SARG 005 is around +2, so, your accuracy is not crazy or out of line with my experience... I enjoyed your statement at the end.... to me, the sentimental value of this watch will exceed the dollar value, for the rest of your life... You'll always remember the trip to Japan, the friends you made, the things you did, and the watch, while great in it's own right, will be a markerpost of that trip, and that time in your life.... And then there's Uncle Jimmy, getting an epic blast off!!!! Hahahahahahah! Cracked me up... Planted one tree, out in front of the urban outfitters, while you were vaping.... Hahahah! I love Uncle Jimmy.... As I've often said myself, if you're gonna stand around in your weird beard, and your flannel shirt, you sure as h**l better know how to do a brake job, or at least change a tire.... Otherwise, shave, and buy some different shirts.... The beauty shots at the end (always a favorite) are quite amazing. When Seiko tries, they are capable of some amazing things....
Thanks, Patrick. Your comments are always the best! This watch is definitely a reminder of that tremendous trip to Japan as well as a reminder to return! Uncle Jimmy is a witty one for sure. And poor ted and his broken face. *Update: his face is now okay. haha! Cheers!
Such a beautiful watch. Watching the video again but this time on the BIG SCREEN for MAXIMUM EFFECT! "Check the lume" sounds awesome and looks Amazeballs
One elated thought, and I know you can make it happen, since you did the Check the Lume song which was EPIC!...when you do the 3 minute Lume competitions, you could do a fun little Semi Tecno Lume song to the music during your timelapse... In addition to the Check the Lume segment...its just too much fun! thank you for the entertaining content.
I really like the look of this watch. I prefer the lume being on the pointy end of the second hand like the orange monster but being on the tail would certainly not be a deal breaker. Love the lume song, good harmonies. Great you're open about your Prospex pronunciation. Your creativity in a watch review is appreciated. Stay dry - stay safe!
That is a stunning piece. I’m looking forward to the strap video. If you wanted to retain the stock strap look, get a replacement OEM strap and trim it. I know they a little pricy but it sure looks good. Glad everyone is ok too.
That's a good idea. I do like that it goes beyond the lugs on the outside. Thanks, everyone here definitely freaked out but once again, we've gone unharmed. There's an Avenger living here!
Beautiful peice! It will be a classic in time. The blue dials are always a winner. You definitely have to swap out that strap, that metal keeper will be a magnet for scratches on those desk diving days! Great review!
Whew, glad you are OK! Saw some scary flood footage on the news. I agree, scratch resistant coatings mostly seem like a gimmick. The only approach that seems to actually work is fully hardened steel like Damasko uses. (Or Sinn's tegimenting.)
Kurt! Love this watch, the bezel is pure hotness! Looking forward to seeing it with other straps. The Lume song never gets old! Keep coming with the great vids brah!
That was a great deal. There were so many good deals on watches when I was in Japan as well. I have the same watch and on a bracelet which you should be able to pick up on the interwebs. It’s a great looking watch and one of my favorite Seikos.
People seem to be charging a lot for that bracelet. Or...just the right amount? I'm not keen on spending 150 dollars on a bracelet just yet. It's definitely my favorite diver :)
$150 seems to be the going rate, but it’s still a lot for a bracelet. Although it does enhance the look of the watch quite a bit and it is one of the better one Seiko has produced.
Really? That's surprising considering that I sloppily used an insipid adverb (super) twicely in subsequent sentences within the aforementioned comment. Nonetheless, I thank you; and to quote another famous wordsmith, "I know words, I have the best words."
Your videos are great. A beautiful watch helps. The dial is amazing on it. I wish it was a little smaller. It is also nice to have drilled lugs in a watch. Hurricanes are scary things. Growing up in eastern NC and now living in southern Alabama, I have been through a few. Stay safe 👍
@@minitwatch Doing great, I have bought some Barton canvas bands for my Hamilton khaki. I used to like natos but the way that watch wears with them is awesome. I'm glad you turned me into them. I am also thinking of getting a Victorinox field watch. Do you still have yours?
Also try one of their Elite Silicones on your hammy. I love to use them on mine! I put the black with red on it to match the seconds hand. I have sold my Victorinox field watch. It was just too clunky for my wrist. Beautiful watch but I wasn't feeling it.
I thought my Orient Ray II had great lume (way better than my other watches) and then I bought the SBDC051 (same as this watch but black instead of PADI) and its crazy. WAY brighter than the Ray II and once the initial nuclear glow levels out it stays very legible all night long.
So. . . now you've done it. . . I'm jealous of this super diver watch. . . if I was gonna buy one, it's this one. Check the Lume acapella, I'm laughing my ass off, Kurt. Well done
Yeah you couldnt really tell from this video but the case is excellent. Check out the Gnomon website sales ad for the SBDC051/053. Theyve got a few good photos of the case. The top is brushed, sides have a brushed line down the middle with a Zaratsu polished transition line, underside is polished, bracelet is brushed with polishing on the sides as well as polishing in between each link. Even the bezel has a nice mix of brushing/polishing and the lacquer coating is absolutely amazing. The hands and applied indices are well done, and the lume is crazy bright. I bought the 051 version (black dial) thinking it was just another Seiko diver, but its a heck of a watch for the price.
That was hilarious! That PADI is pretty sweet, but I have to admit that I really like the Monster better! I never got an orange monster, but wanted one so bad. I really liked the Japan video too.
Hahaha, i was pretty confused at the lume scene as I definitely have heard that rhythm before but somehow I couldn't click it until you showed that Skyrim map. I was looking for this watch review and wasn't expecting to see your own review. I'm lucky I guess.
I tried this watch on in a store, the standard rubber band feels so soft! I want one for my SKX! Too bad over here the prices are almost twice as much...this one was selling for 900 EUR (thats over 1000 USD!)
Another great vid Curt. I'm still loving Check the Lume. One suggestion though. I don't think Ted gets enough air time. I think he needs his own segment!!
Thanks, Peter! Funny thing is that it was only Ted at first but that's probably a good idea. I should start a comment rivary. Team Ted and Team Jimmy. haha! *evil strokey beard thinking face*
Sick review my braddah. I stay on Oahu, we barely got hit and now that it’s a tropical storm, things got even more calm. I actually took a trip to japan recently and ended up purchasing a Seiko brightz SAGA233 from bic camera in ikebukuro. I was planning on picking up a shogun but decided that I wanted something others didn’t have and the brightz caught my eye as I’ve never seen one before. Anyways next time you go, you should check out the bic camera in ikebukuro as it’s the main store. Their watch selection is the biggest I’ve seen when compared to the other locations. Also nakano Broadway, lots of shops selling luxury watches.
Thanks, brah! I think the worst thing that happened was the fires in Lahaina. Those poor families! No rain either. They were probably the only ones in the state wishing for the big rains. Have you been to the Yodobashi in Akibahara? They had an entire floor of watches. I was told I couldn't film or take pictures. I was bummed. haha. The next time I go to Japan, It'll be on my terms and I'll get to check out way more watch places! Mahalos!
Beautiful watch! How about "Minutewatch - Watch Unknown. Episode 2 - I can see you and the puppets boating up the Mekong River and finding a watch from a soldier from the 101st Airborne left there in 1969. Then you find he soldier and give it to him.
What a beautiful watch. Thanks for the review, Curt. The size might be a bit big for my small wrist. Could have been a great addition to the skx009, my gf seems to like the skx009 too and I can’t find the skx015 anywhere for her. I might just have to hit the gym to get the good wrist size for this watch LOL.
“You have a big ash-hole!” F’ing HILARIOUS 😂 Um, I actually think the insert may just be aluminum with a lacquer coating, at least that’s what I remember reading in another review. The bezel is most likely IP coated because anodizing is a process used primarily on aluminum. Not sure it even works on stainless steel but I could be wrong. Beautiful, beautiful watch Curt. Isn’t it great when you connect with a timepiece like that? Wear it in good health. And stay safe from Lane.
You're probably right. I wish Seiko would let us know what these things are! Lane is now pretty much dead! Thank goodness! At least I now have all sorts of supplies in case another one threatens us! Thanks, Steven!
@JaSolo Gaming no, it isn't. That information is nowhere in ANY of the Seiko literature. There is no way they would use a higher end material than they use on the Grand Seiko dive watches some of which use ceramic and at a significantly higher price point. This watch sells for around $700. Plus, lots of people upgrade the insert on this watch to ceramic or sapphire, so you are clearly mistaken. theyobokies.com/?mod=product&sec=item&task=detail&id=347
@JaSolo Gaming I'm not looking for an argument. But I'm gonna give you one. You're the one who felt the need to correct me based on some anecdotal information that a possibly mistaken "boutique employee" told you. Seiko isn't going to use a higher quality material in a sub-$1000 watch than they use in a plus-$1000 watch. In addition, I modify Seiko watches for money, so I am extremely well acquainted with the bill of particulars in these watches. People aren't going to downgrade their insert to a lesser material for additional labor and parts cost. You can't even find the terms Seiko and ADLC mentioned together in a Google search. There is only one person who has mentioned it in reference to the SBDC055 and I see you also commented on his video review in which you indicate you ordered yours from Japan. So which boutique was it that you spoke with? In addition, Seiko promotes the Dia-Shield coating and the Zaratsu polishing used in the manufacture of this watch. Why would they leave out any mention of an ADLC coating or material in the marketing information when they're promoting the long lasting finish of the hand polished case? Makes zero sense. And BTW, my initial comment above was over a year ago. You're the one who felt the need to bring it up long after the fact. I stand by my assessment until such time as you can show me the materials you claim to be used referenced anywhere in the Seiko literature or even a hang tag that references ADLC. I'm sure yours came with hang tags, correct? I'll wait. In the meantime, enjoy your watch. It's a beauty.
"It sucks, you suck, Ted's broken face sucks" . Made me laugh, thanks. Great review from a few years ago. There's still some available, I'm thinking about it.
Saw your channel name and found that "Minit" sound really familiar. There used to be a guy on Muai that did dirtbike vlogs named Kalani.... hey wait a MINIT
I'm not quite sure what you mean. I have it on a mesh bracelet right now and it looks fantastic! Natos fit just fine as well as the straps I've already tried on it. It'll do!
@@minitwatch the length of the lug (not the size e.g. 20mm etc. Sorry for my bad english). It looks rather short than others like SKX, but if thick strap can fit, probably just my personal aesthetic taste is bothered by it he he
Awesome choice!! I too have an angel hair wrist of 6.5"... I've been trying to decide what watch to get forever, around $500 or less, I might do the SARB033 but I also really want a nice diver. I wish they made the Mini Turtle in black/gold :(
I've got a 6.5" wrist too and I have a Sumo, Blue Lagoon Samurai, Baby Tuna and an Orient Triton and they all fit great! If you want to spend less than 500, grab a baby tuna. They look big but the short lugs make them very wearable. I was nervous about the Triton with a lug to lug over 50mm but they curve down nicely and the watch wears quite well as a result. The Triton is an amazing value for the money.
What Bill says is all good points. I would get the SARB033 asap. It's price might only go up and it's a fantastic piece! Maybe they will make more mini turtles! We'll see!
@@minitwatch yeah I think I'm going with the SARB033 first since its discontinued, anywhere you'd recommend to buy from? And I love the look of the baby tuna with the black/gold accents I've just always been nervous that it would be too big. I need to find somewhere to try one on because that's one of the sexiest divers I've ever seen. Edit: oh and thanks for the help guys!
It's so true. Diashield is bullshit. My sbdc063 had it and it was scratched on arrival new. And, it still gets scratches. Same with my SBBN033 Tuna. Diashield does not reduce scratches on that watch either. However, do you notice that perhaps the diashield gives the metal surface a particular feel? I think I can feel the coating.. Does not feel like just metal. Also. I feel the diashield coating does make the metal shine or make a different tone to it that looks a little better than a non-diashield coated watch.
I had just finished watching Thrashin' for about the 15th time while I was supposed to be ordering parts & I thought to myself ''I wonder how Curt & his Robotech & watch collection are doing in the hurricane'' & poof a video appears! I really love this watch yet I really don't like the strap. If it had a metal bracelet the same finish as the body then it would be perfect in my opinion! Break out a paperclip for that poor Dinosaur :)
Thrashin'! Right now it's on my mesh bracelet. Really diggin it! There is a bracelet that you can get for it but people are charging 175-200 dollars for it! Sheesh! Ted's pin is okay. It just sometimes gets out of whack. For a split-second, I thought about stopping the video and doing it again but...I think it worked out great! haha!
Hi Curt, Just another insane video : just continue to make us dream and laugh ! By the way, thanks god to be safe ;) This seiko is amazing and the price you get it it is also great. Good job Bro' !
Hoping you do a review of the Orient Star Classic, theres just something about that watch for me. I own the blue hands one and its my absolute favourite watch.
Since this review, how as the 6r15 movement been keeping time? It's been getting a lot of negative reviews because of poor QC leading to very inconsistent timekeeping in the order of 10's of seconds off per day. I love the look but I don't like the quality control. Thanks.
What's up gang! Some notes: The hurricane is now a tropical storm and still lingering just south of here. Thank goodness! Thank you all for your incredible support! I appreciate it greatly!

You are funny dude. I enjoy your videos very much. Feel better soon. Sweet timepiece btw.
Thanks, man! Cheers!
Awesome watch. Looking forward for the strap video!! 🍉
Me too! I might order some new ones just for this watch!
Check Cheapestnatostraps.com!! I recently bought some and are amazing for the price! They have a lot of options, not just Natos!
That song was beautiful
=D
Very nice watch Curt, enjoy it man!
Thanks, Robert! Cheers!
Me too! Every night I work out my wrist. I mean. What. I go gymming. Yep. That's the one. I gotta go.
Loved the music and the end talk ;)
Glad you liked it!
It's a beauty.
har har what an awesome video. so entertaining... best watchreview i saw since a long time. thks a lot.
Great review and great lume song
Thanks, Frank!
Check the lume is AWESOME!
check the luuUuumeee duet was beautiful! 11:46
“Check the Lume” has me cracking up!
My only complaint with this watch is the "lug-hand" (if there's such term) is kinda short. Makes the strap options rather limited
It looks rather short than others like SKX, but if thick strap can fit, probably just my personal aesthetic taste is bothered by it he he
Great lume song. Lol that turtle. Got my subscription.
Happy peanut🥜
Fork yes!! Everyone so the happy people!
This video made my peanut happy,
That's what it's all about! HappyPeanuts.
Awesome review! Keep it up dude!!
Thanks, Q! Will do!
Your still alive!!
Yes! The storm just DIED. It was amazing! One of my lawn chairs fell down. #wewillrebuild
i really love ur new watch!! i would go with white rubber strap on it :)
White...interesting :) Hmmmm!
That's a real beauty, is there a bracelet option by any chance?
I know you can get the bracelet after the fact. People are charging a lot for it, though.
I do notice that the case seems "warmer". It has a more vintage feel in my opinion and does feel a bit more grippy.
Super impressed with the watch! Great choice! The dail is amazing!. Loved uncle jimmy “hippie shit” rant .
Thanks, Jesse! I am in love with this thing!
For a split-second, I thought about stopping the video and doing it again but...I think it worked out great! haha!
Just saw that big fire in Lahaina on the news, that's pretty crazy shit right there. Almost as crazy as that bracelet price :)
Great music !!!
Hi Curt, Just another insane video : just continue to make us dream and laugh ! By the way, thanks god to be safe ;)
This seiko is amazing and the price you get it it is also great. Good job Bro' !
My peanut🥜 is very happy
Excellent! So many happy peanuts!
Hoping you do a review of the Orient Star Classic, theres just something about that watch for me. I own the blue hands one and its my absolute favourite watch.

Beautiful watch 😁
Super cool.
Beautiful souvenir from japan, you bought an Orient too right?
I sure did. That's the next video :)
@@minitwatch great choice indeed i only have japanesse pieces on my collection, and Seiko is my favorite one.
how has this watch held up !??? super curious
Does that store you got this watch at have an online shop?
Glorious!
WoohooO!
Since this review, how as the 6r15 movement been keeping time? It's been getting a lot of negative reviews because of poor QC leading to very inconsistent timekeeping in the order of 10's of seconds off per day. I love the look but I don't like the quality control. Thanks.
Great watch. Love the review
Great review, awesome buy👍 If you want to sell the rubber strap, I have a 7 3/4 wrist size, and I think it would amazing on my Seiko Monster👌
Thanks, Mark! I'll probably just put it away in a ziploc like the other ones :)
