    I’ve got the sbdc051 Black Dial version and like it very much , it was running very slow at -25 seconds a day but I regulated it myself and now it is holding at +7 sec day. Good review!

    The sbdc055 is next on my purchase list, if I purchased this today the 30/12/18 through gnomon watches with today’s exchange rate it would cost me AU$1091, went shopping just before with my missis and went into a jewellery shop, they wanted to charge me AU$1650, 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ think I’ll keep collecting through the overseas market, cool vid and I’m buying this 055 next for sure. 👍👍

      Hi Guy, I actually made a number of follow up videos on this watch you may also want to check out. As it stands I can't really recommend the one I had in this video, you may want to do a bit more research.

    • @guylezius9775
      @guylezius9775 5 лет назад

      The Casual Watch Reviewer cheers for your reply brother, I’ve been watching those vids you mention and from what your friend who did the tear down stated it sounds like a lubrication problem, I’ve just emailed Gnomon with regards to this problem and they stated they’ve had no problems with any of their watches running that movement, they’ve gone as far as to state they will take picks of my unit on the machine used to show accuracy to show me its tolerances before shipping, I’d be pissed if I pay close to AU$1000 for the SBDC055 and it’s not running right, at least I have a good watch maker that could do a service if that’s truly the problem, what do you think brother.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  5 лет назад

      I have been very impressed with the service I got from Gnomon watches but I have never had to send a watch back to them. From a sales side they are one of the best in my experience. As I mentioned in that upload I could have just got a bad one. It actually was not bad from the start it took three or so weeks. So just keep an eye on it. I think in the range of seiko dive watches you can get that movement in cheaper models, you really have to like the case design to make it worth the extra. If you have that money to spend and want a vintage have you priced up the Oris Sixty Five?

    • @guylezius9775
      @guylezius9775 5 лет назад

      The Casual Watch Reviewer yea the Oris sixty five is so similar yet the over look of the PADI 055 I like better, yea maybe you did get a bad one, same thing happened to me, my second Steinhart I purchased direct from Steinhart and not from Gnomon as I had with my first Steinhart, when the one from Steinhart turned up, same deal, three weeks in and I noticed it just wasn’t loosing time but when I adjusted the hands they didn’t engage when turning the crown, down to my local watch maker, he said the watch and the movement (eta 2824-2) where great yet the movement was not lubricated, he Serviced it and now it’s fine, also to this point your reviews are all I’ve noticed pointing to a problem, early days in my research though and I’m glad I’ve seen your reviews and I’m glad I’ve subscribed to your channel brother 👍👍

      I wish I actually had not bothered buying this watch as I have had a number of issues with it. It is currently with a seiko specialist to work out whats wrong with it, it gained about 40+ seconds a day. This may be a one off, I will be doing a video on it. If I had the choice again I may have gone with black as that looks more like the 62mas but the dial on the blue PADI is really nice, looks much better in person than a picture does it justice.

      I couldn't agree more with you. I suppose I need to see the 62MAS up close before fully judging but they have done such a good job of this version it would take a lot to convince me. I imagine if you judge it and thing the 62MAS is an investment then it may be worth it. Thanks for commenting and watching!

  • @rogerp4612
    @rogerp4612 6 лет назад

    Comparison with the SLA017 is quite pointless. The watches are vastly more different than they are alike. Different case, different dial, different hands, different bezel, different movement, different dimensions and vastly different price points. The only similarity is that Seiko has, for marketing purposes, attached a reference to the original 62MAS dive watch to both of these contemporary watches. For the SLA017 that's legit. For the SBDC055, it's fairly laughable.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  6 лет назад +3

      Hi Roger, thanks for commenting. I respect your opinion on this but I clearly don't agree otherwise I would not have made a point of making the video. I think if you are after the styling of the 62Mas and either cant get hold of one, or like me couldn't justify spending that much money on it. Then the SBDC055 gives a very similar styling and feeling. I thought it was worth doing the comparison as I think people are interested. They just did something similar to the new 1968 and bought out similar more cost effective designs.

      Hi Robert, thanks so much for watching! Yes I'm trying to mix it up a bit form other watch reviewers. I also try and do a lot of interviews with interesting people in the world of Horology. In fact I recently filmed an interview with a Seiko repair specialist who unfortunately this watch is with. I have had a number of issues with it, most notably that it started gaining 40-50s a day. I may have just got a bad one, I also bought from Japan with an 'international' warranty that Seiko refused to honour in the US. I really liked the watch but just make sure you get one form a place that can easily repair it fo something goes wrong with it, I'm sure it won't but just in case.

    Doesn't look much like the original. Different size, proportions etc and in any case, Seiko makes an actual 62MAS followup called the SLA017. However this modern crown-at-3 diver is characterful and a lot of fun for a Seiko, whose divers are otherwise quite dour.

    Is it worth buying this non swiss made watch?? What’s the daily accuracy of the watch??

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  6 лет назад +6

      Hi Vinay. Its not just the Swiss who are expert watch makers, a number of countries that have excellent horological history. Japan is one of them and seiko is one of the best brands to offer excellent mechanical movements across an entire price range. Also they make all their own movements for even their more affordable ranges, this is something the majority of swiss brands cant say as they get their movements from ETA (owned by Swatch). You can pay $1,000 for a Hamilton with a ETA 7750 or
      $5,000 for an IWC with the same ETA 7750 movements. Germany is another country with excellent watch making history and even countries like China, Russia, US and the UK have watch making industries. In fact Russian Vostok watches are commonly thought to have the one of the best sub $60 mechanical watches you can buy on the market today.
      As for this Seiko it is keeping good time with about +1 to +2 seconds a day. I have been using a timing app on the iPhone and have been impressed considering the specs say +10 to -15 per day.

I didnt see any chapter ring misalignment (guess seiko has finally took some action). but I did notice the lume application wasnt even on the indices. the stealthy sbdc085 is the one with only a slight overflow edge on 11, so I took that instead. the worst one was pretty much having lume flowing here and there on all applied indices. to me that seems to be the main flaws to watch out on these 62 MAS reimagined version.

    Great review. Am very tempted but they are a bit more expensive in the UK. Only slight concern is size and my 7" wrist as I tend to go max to 40mm. Think that blue is fantastic and the blue coin edge gives it a major difference to the others in the range.

      That Tissot has great spec but it doesn't look nice. The movement matters but it has to be cased in a watch case. Maybe you do but I would not buy a watch that looks like crap even it has a more superior movement because it doesn't give a good feel whenever I look at it.

      No not at all, I'm serious. I don't try and copy him at all. Apart from me being also British and their being a watch in the video I don't see any similarities at all. I am genuinely interested to know what you think that.
