There's something different about having a dedicated device though for playing games, it disconnects you from the rest of the world, which is exactly what I want to do when I play a game. The isolation factor is important
I just hits different when you have something dedicated. Plus, having some of these devices with a limit on what they can emulate like to PS2 or gamecube is OP, in that, with limited choices you might end up playing more games you originally mightve put off
To me this is something to do when you eventually upgrade to a new phone. You don't want to trade in your old one, but you don't want it to collect dust either. So turning it into a powerful handheld is way to get more life out of it. Especially if it's an android from a couple years ago.
@@MegaDrainProductions I plan on turning my s22 ultra into an Android box when I upgrade. Kinda overkill lol. It'll make a great console for emulation with the razer kishi making it almost like a switch.
I have a Galaxy S21 Ultra that I've been using with a Razer Kishi for retro gaming for a couple of years now. It plays everything up to and including PS2. MGS2, 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Silent Hill 3 all perfectly playable.
@@Gloryboyquan idk about work I haven't tried it. But I highly doubt PS3 will run well on any phone. PS3 emulation is a lot more hardware intensive than PS2. Even the steam deck can't run all PS3 games smoothly, so I doubt a phone will

The emulators are available on the play store and are finally working great. Also the latest xbox controller works great on the phone. The d pad on xbox blows away the old nes controller. Eliminates fatigue and fales input problems of the NES
I’ve been loving exploring my phones capabilities with emulation and alternate ways of play. I invested in a backbone controller and have done extensive experimenting with different emulators on iPhone. I used to hate cloud gaming, but now I’m finding it fascinating, especially with Moonlight. Being able to use my PC on my phone so seamlessly has turned it into a one stop emulation mega machine and I’ve been getting away from my desk more and more often now. So…surprise hooray for cloud gaming!

With a somewhat recent Android phone, you can also get a USBC to HDMI adapter, and play those games on TV. A Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, along with an XBox One or PS4 controller, will work a treat. Hell, a Switch Pro controller can work, for most of it. Whatever you have handy, really.
I primarily just use midrange phones. I still have a Samsung A72 and I'm able to play most GC games and all Dreamcast games, and everything below that.
I've got an old Galaxy S8 laying around I was going to sell but making it a dedicated emulation device could honestly be a good way to give it another lease on life
I really wanna pick up a used or refurbished Samsung s20FE or something for like 200 bucks to replace my RP3 but im not sure if I wanna mess with it or ill miss the dedicated buttons for stuff but might have to give it a try. Especially if something as old as the Pixel 3a can still do GameCube!
finally upgraded my android phone for the same reason. it is expensive especially for what i was looking for at which point $250+ is basically money either for a switch or get a flagship model phone
Razer kishi is priced the same / higher than Anbernic RG35XX. I tried emulating games on my older phone years ago and it was great for retro games except for PS games, however, my experience wasn't that great because there were no controllers like kishin before and you just play on the phone screen which makes you want to play with a controller. But this is a great idea to make use of older phones (2015 - present) instead of keeping them in a drawer / stockroom
The issue with these controller add ons is that the decent ones cost stupid money. You're better off just buying a controller and playing on a mid range laptop. Years ago I had a Sony Xperia Play, it is the old playstation phone from 2011. It has a built in key pad and worked fantastic for many old games up to most 3ds games. I mean it would play anything older than that including N64 and PS1 perfectly. It was also able to run San Andreas although I think that was a tablet port and not the PS2 version. I really wish they would release a sequel. I have recently heard that Sony is working on a new hand held console, I really hope it turns out to be a playstation phone sequel.
Honestly the only reason I don't use my phone for games is because of the battery, if it lasted a couple of hours that'd be one thing. If I could have a phone that lasted days on a single charge only sending messages and making calls I'd be content but sadly it's not reality
I have a Pixel 6 right now as my main phone, but I wouldn't want to use it right now for games. But once I get another new phone in a few years, I'll definitely keep this one for a dedicated game handheld. Honestly though, I rather just get a Steam Deck.
I got one of these coupe years ago but it's Bluetooth. I just can't use it. The lag is unbearable. It's funny because in Windows there almost isn't any perceivable lag, but on android it's awful
Up until Wii. Using fpga is the best for near perfect as orginal retro gaming -like running natively. Wii , Wii U and switch can be played on androids and laptop, emulation is best for them. Also having dock to hook up Bluetooth controllers. If it allows for analog using on Crt tv is perfect.
I have my old Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with an old Kishi controller and it is a beast with Dolphin for Wii and GC games. Recast for your Dreamcast needs, and then I also have it for my N64, PS1, PS2, and PSP needs.
Just wanna mention that you'll likely get even better performance in Dolphin _without_ RetroArch as it does introduce some performance overhead. =) You can definitely tell when trying to play a SNES core on the old 3DS versus just using a native port of that same emulator, same applies to other emulators and devices as a consequence! =D
