rdavidr I have this sweet ass slingerland set I think is from the earlier 70’s!!! I’m in the process of restoring it but I can’t find parts to save my life! I’m looking for the spike style long rods and thought if anybody had them, you did! Lol you need to open a damn drum store!
Great desk, man! I'd suggest throwing those computer monitors onto a dual arm stand so that you can move them closer to your face. that's just me though!

Looking really heavy duty! I really like the floating rack gear so you can slide stuff underneath - very handy when cleaning, did a similar thing on my DIY platform desk. For cabling you may want to consider a supplier besides Hosa - their stuff is nice enough but in bulk quantities can get expensive. Monoprice is a good alternative but making your own cables is even better. Get a 100' spool of mic wire and a bunch of neutrik XLR/TS/TRS connectors and you can make exactly the cable you need, exactly the length you need, whenever you need it, for a fraction of the price. Enjoy your new space!
Great work! Only suggestion is that the rack mount power strips are just that - power strips with rack ears. Having one to switch on all power is great, but otherwise I'd recommend a good UPS unit underneath for true sine wave operation as well as protection in case power goes out... but most rack mount "power conditioners" do anything but... If you were doing again, would you make the monitor bridge 4 RU wide vs. 3? You definitely have the space.
You may want to look into split wiring looms for cable management. I really like the synthetic ones. You can cut them to length and then burn the ends to prevent fraying. Really easy to install and easy to take wires out and put some in, plus they look slick. Been using it in automotive a lot recently.
That was one thought. Considering itll be hidden I thought it wasnt worth the effort. I may for the cables running down behind the hutch since you can see those.
compared to the frankendesk I use that first desk would be a major upgrade. That's a fantastic new desk, I might just attempt to build this myself. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Came to see the desk, but stayed to listen to all of the audio stuff even though I didn't understand anything you said. Great job, it looks really nice.
Dude congrats on the ISA Pre's. Definitely one of my favorite and tonnes of gain, clarity and punch for drums. I recently recorded drums for an album Im working on and used my ISA with a Senheiser Md421 II for the inside kick and it sounded killer. I love Neve Pre's but for drums I often prefer ISA's and API's, especially for inside kick, snare, and toms. I also love the ISA's because they can easily drive SM7b's and other dynamic and ribbon mic's. Also, if you push them into the yellow(and even just a hair into the red) you get just a really nice saturation from the output transformer that sounds something like in between a Neve and an API. Its such a great middle ground. Also expirement with different impedance options on different mic's, you'll be surprised how much it will change the sound/output. Usually though I like the high impedance with dynamic and ribbons, and Ill usually like the ISA or Medium setting for condensers. If you have any questions about it let me know, I know this pre inside and out!!! You rock dude, stay safe during these crazy times!
could you do a video about wooden sound dampeners? that would be awesome to see you designs and what works best for someone making a panels in the future. THANKS!
I need a new desk for my home setup and you gave me some really good ideas. Except my setup is for a home server / networking setup. I'm going to build a server rack with cooling and noise filtration into one side and regular drawers into the other. On the top, I'll be putting a butt-ton of displays (I have 6x 24" monitors). Thanks for the inspiration. :)
Maybe consider installing lockable casters underneath your next build to make moving it around on wheels a bit more manageable. Just a thought. Great looking desk Sir
Us drummers Know how to get stuff done! I feel for you cleaning out above the ceiling. I worked at a television station and we had to remodel an old master control room and the first task was taking down the ceiling tiles and all the crap that had accumulated over 30 years. It was hot up there. I headed straight for the showers after that. Some guy told me they used to have someone whose main job was to empty the ashtrays in the control room.
Very revealing video - thanks! I’m “refreshing” my home studio, and similarly by added a used MOTU 8Pre w/ADAT for $150, giving my a total of 16 inputs, 12 w/preamps. I rarely need them, except for recording drums. But it is nice to leave a lot of mic’s ready to go for amps and acoustic guitars and vocals. I got confused about all the steps with the Focusrite IDA gear?
Love your channel brother! Keep up the great work and knowledge sharing. Going to take a shot at making a desk of my own, maybe not as big but definitely similar idea. Thanks again!!!!
absolut great thing! gratulations and respect , not only for your builder-skills, but for all the technical news in your studio!!!...... btw please repeat the part where you open and close the drawer with your turntable....I could see it for hours........
Awesome build and looks great. tube lug drawer handles for the win lol Also lm lovin the Price is Right showcase show down music at the end. Great stuff
what wood baltic birch plywood? 3/4" ? ALSO what width do the inside of your rack unit spaces have to be? i love the idea of building like that and adding your own connections for rack space. please let me know! Killer desk mate! Thanks! joe.
Hope yall are staying safe out there! Heres something you all have been asking for since I built this desk, enjoy!

Tube lugs as handles...
Nice.
Schwarzer Rogen didn’t even notice!
I think he made a video about those a while back!
good eye!
I was wondering if they were tube lugs or just fancy modern handles

I love how every single nail hit was in time😍
drummer stuff lol
+1 for the Crown Royal bags for mic coverage. And here I thought I was the only one.
I too use Crown Royal bags for mic covers, odds and ends, and small cables.
As a person who enjoys keeping rearranging the desk setup I find this video highly satisfying
Same!
I'm happy for you, Dave. There's nothing quite like accomplishing a big goal. Keep making great content and we'll keep watching!
9:46 I don't know why, but it kinda bothers me that you didn't center the desk to the wall. 😂
I moved it, dont worry. idk what I was thinking haha
I was thinking this too😂😂but I see he already responded and said he moved it🙏🏾
Can I just say that I am super appreciative of the fact that you're stapling and nail sounds are in time
so guys he did it, he finally installed the desk!
looks amazing btw
I love the tube lug handles at 4:16!
Ikr!! Awesome
I love how David is the perfect combination of music, beard, and handyman
💯

From one Crown Royal drummer to another great job sir. Love this desk.
8:32 ive made a dope beat with that dexler sample too, cool.
this studio desk is perfect, looks great man. well done
You really deserve more subscribers for what effort you put in your videos. Keep it up!
Great job on the desk build! I like how you created those neat 1U or whatever U sizeable racks into the shelves to mount what you need to
Those are 4U mini racks!
To me these are literally the best edited videos on youtube

As a fellow Clarett 8 Pre X owner, kudos!

Nice. I would love to get the plans to make this..
Awesome desk. Only thing I would add is a pullout drawer in the center for a midi keyboard
Yet another great video from the legend himself rdavidr
David that a awesome desk and the studio looks great your channel is my favorite
We have an almost identical desk at the studio we had custom built a couple years ago. Yours looks a little wider. Looks great!
Very nice setup David. You should have enough ins with 12 pres for a great drum recording set up.
This one of the best ASMR videos for me anyway. Really enjoy your work bruv!

could you do a video about wooden sound dampeners? that would be awesome to see you designs and what works best for someone making a panels in the future. THANKS!
im glad Ron Swanson's brother has a similar interest in both music and woodworking. pretty wholesome.
Thanks for sharing the plans!!! Perfect.
Great job mate.
That is an awesome desk/ setup and it made me happy watching your video!
Super desk. Big job done well.
this was an incredible build! Awesome video, easy to watch video format, some of these Studio Build videos are so Resident Sleeper.
The desk is pretty cool but I'm way more amped by the upgrades you're putting into it. At this rate, you'll be unstoppable!
Let’s talk about the sound track on 2:00-2:19, the mixing is so clean 🔥🔥🔥

That's an awesome Studio there, yo. Congrats! Ur Audio Engineering it's cool too with all the 'architectural style" there.
Us drummers Know how to get stuff done!

You should do a video on how you made those drawers from the materials listed.
Oh my God, I just wrote a comment on this. Lol, he made them? Yes, definitely should do a DIY video for that!!
Great looking desk. Would it be possible to put caster wheels on the bottom?
Very revealing video - thanks! I’m “refreshing” my home studio, and similarly by added a used MOTU 8Pre w/ADAT for $150, giving my a total of 16 inputs, 12 w/preamps. Good thing Dave's a drummer, that way you know those drill, hammer and nailgun sounds are gonna be on beat every single video.
hey david when are you gonna build that extra deep drawer
and so it begins....
Quite the prolific builder. Nice mouse 'pad' too.
you sir, are a master!!!! thats an amazing job and love the outcome!!
A grand desk for a grand studio! :) What happened to the ART MPAII? Thinking about maybe hooking it up to a pair of the extra line inputs?
Great job David. Looks awesome as well as the whole studio
When do you gonna paint that tom😅
when do you gonna learn the english?
Love your vids David your a blessing man... Keep safe from Northern Ireland.
get the Mackie Big Knob Passive for your monitor, it's cheap and it's very useful.
Love your channel brother! Keep up the great work and knowledge sharing. Going to take a shot at making a desk of my own, maybe not as big but definitely similar idea. Thanks again!!!!

Awesome build and looks great. tube lug drawer handles for the win lol
Also lm lovin the Price is Right showcase show down music at the end.
Great stuff
Those JBL are really nice, I replace them with Kalis but I wont never sell the JBL.
Id love to see a how-to-video on adding a heavy duty sliding keyboard tray for an 88 key piano.
what wood baltic birch plywood? 3/4" ?
ALSO what width do the inside of your rack unit spaces have to be? i love the idea of building like that and adding your own connections for rack space.
please let me know!
Killer desk mate!
Thanks!
joe.
Tube lugs drawer pulls?? Kick ass!
That Studio room looks stunning, just add some LED strip lights and some nice fresh plants.
You misspelled studio kn the thumbnail
It says stuido
Nice eye dude, I didn’t catch that
you misspelled "in" in your comment.
@@thisgoestoeleven You didnt capitalize the first letter of that sentence.
Didn't*
Lol
nice looking desk...looks solid
Would love to se you making a video about setting/adjusting the microphone gain on the interface, and some basic mixing. Studio looking great :D
I want something like this for my dj setup
The rackmount drawer slides look brilliant! Any more information on those?
