Heyo man! This was awesome to see and we definetely are striving to improve on what is there as we expand the selection of levels. Since the writing of this I can tell you that we've worked on 2 patches which both adress optimization, filesize and the texture loading issue. I would love to hear back from you if these issues are less prevalent for you with the new build :)! We've also knocked 20GB of the total filesize when extracted with some heavy compression work and fixed a bunch of bugs in Shadows fight that should make it a lot easier to get better times on it. We're aware of how forgiving the ranking system is and that will be adressed in demo 2.0, which we're hoping to launch early next year and will add both Green Forest and Radical highway, you can see a preview of Green Forest on the gamejolt page already. Thanks again for taking the time with writing a full video like this on our project!
Awesome! I love Sonic Adventure 2. But if you guys are gonna remake the game, could you possibly do these? - Make Tails & Eggman’s mech have smoother controls? Like when turning, the mech slows slightly - Nerf some enemies like the Gammas and Artificial Chaos? - Remove some surprise enemies? Enemies that surprise the player which is cheap to me.
May I recommend something? I highly suggest if able too, to lock the camera behind Sonic. Adventure 2 stages were designed for this fixed perspective as the stages are more linear than Adventure 1. There was several times in Metal Harbor for example where I just straight up died because of the wishy washy camera. The parts where this game shines is when the camera is locked similar to SA2, such as in the snowboarding section and the gun chase. Aside from that I'm really looking forward to seeing where this project ends up, it has a ton of potential and you are clearly very talented at what you do.
Idk about you guys, but I'm personally not a fan of this one. This just looks like Sonic Omens, which itself was made with the Infinity Engine. Basically, it just looks like generic Unreal Engine lighting and materials. It doesn't look or feel like a Sonic game. It looks like something that would blow my PC up just from trying to download the game itself. It got this "hire that man" vibe to it that I just don't like. When I think of a remake, I look to something like Project 06, where it's faithful to the original, but doesn't stray too far away from it. This just looks like a completely different game, but with the SA2 maps ported into it.
The Crash N Sane Triology looks completely different from the og ps1 releases as well. The difference between that remake and this fan made remake of Sonic Adventure 2 is the lack of polish, visual flare and actual substantial improvements. There are no new added details which would benefit from the current technology. This just feels like the og SA2 maps were ported in a new game with an RTX mod on top.
This is why I prefer the Modern Sonic Adventure 2 mod as its more faithful and although the models for stages are the same yet the characters are modern, imo the textures looking good and added lighting was all that was needed and it isn't jarring
the project looks promising but the thing that bugs me is that it looks TOO realistic, which makes it lose its overall flair it had in the original and also makes it look like a 'this will be sonic adventure 2 in 2014' image.
I don't think the project is quite THAT serious, like it feels like a practice project to see how far you can go and sharing it around, but it feels like people are taking it as a serious product or something. Projects like these aren't necessarily "games" and moreso like tech demos, and huge file sizes and frame drops and everything is exactly what you'd get for a game that isn't taking itself too seriously (and made in Unreal). There's a shit ton of behind the scenes work to make a simple project into a deliverable product, and idk if that's really the goal for the artist, I think it's moreso a fun practice project (to me at least. I could be wrong)
I feel like every Sonic fangame is getting like "Sega needs to do better" and "Sega hire this man." It looks like every generic fangame made in unreal/infinity engine with overused unreal lightning. Slapping fast sonic is small or bigger stages with no consideration why the og game in special in the first place then calling it a day.
It just looks generic to some as it looks just regular Unreal Engine visuals a bit, the lighting is also very harsh in some places and it's most noticeable on stuff like the fight with Big Foot where it's genuinely really dark for some reason, the sky could be a bit less dark and the lighting could be gray instead of pitch black
Because of how much SA2 means to me, seeing this remake personally doesn't feel like *Sonic Adventure 2 remake*. It's a great remake concept and kudos to them making it, but a proper SA2 remakes needs to have the aura of what makes SA2 so beloved as a Sonic game. Which is something Sonic Team can only do.
@@Rusty_Spy Which is why we will never have a proper remake because without Sonic Team being at their best like before, then it's better not having one at all.
Current Sonic Team might just slap current models, current voice actors and the frontiers gameplay on it. And at this point, could we really call it a remake? It would feel like a different game. A normal remaster or port on current gen consoles is what they should do in my opinion.
I'm sorry but I really hate this "realistic" lighting it is far too dark and doesn't look anything like a Sonic game. Compare the lighting in Generations City Escape to this, it's far more easy to see things without these harsh shadows. Personally can't get into that lighting style, I always despise it when I see it
I've only ever played this game on Steam, and I love it. It has issues, but it's my favorite Sonic game. And not just because it's the first video game I've ever beaten.
One of the reasons you enjoyed it more on Gamecube is because the PC version and the other “HD Versions” have issues with homing attack detection. It factually plays better on Dreamcast and Gamecube.
@@MIGAS32000 It’s pretty well documented just google it. It comes down to a lack of control options. Depending on the controller you use the deadzones and overall feel can make controlling things difficult but mostly it messes with homing attack accuracy. You have to use specific controllers or it feels off. A lot of people complain about this and it’s because the gamecube controllers and dreamcast controllers have very specific dead zone settings and overall more made for their system. This could all be fixed if there were better control options.
I do not like the game's graphics, it looks like "baby's first unreal game" even though that's not even the engine it was made in it does not have any of the charm that dreamcast sonic had, sorry.
0:59 it's probably because the older versions don't have as many bugs, you mentioned the pc version has control jank (which now finally can be fixed with mods). the gamecube version is siginificantly better with the controls, but still not as good as the dreamcast version
This looks honestly neat! I will say though, the ranking system in the original (Gamecube version of) game was too much for me, even though I got 100%. Also, the storage space is definitely gonna be an issue.
Eggman needs work the most in that game, bro was so bad even DX didn't fix his model. Not saying the whole game was bad, really good game, and what's the point of a remake if there are already tons of mods, just make a modpack and call that a remake.
lowkey this fan game rn is overrated. The camera sucks (like most sonic fan games), the homing reticle sound is way too annoying, re using the gens animations just loses charm, and the big foot boss just kinda sucks
Sadly most of these fan games don't bother with the automatic camera and just want you to control it manually which is a thing Sega never does in the official Sonic games. Even in games like adventure formula and frontiers, there's still automatic camera in them despite you having the option to control the camera as well. Also even Sonic Robo Blast 2, which is the most praised Sonic fan game out there, asks you to control the camera manually. And honestly, having to constantly control the camera manually in a fast paced 3D platformer is just way too much to ask from the players (you already need one hand for the moveset and another hand for the directional controls. We don't have 3 or more hands so idk how they expect you to play these).
@sonicmaiden2871 I'd urge you to play the demo for yourselves before making statements like this. We've developed an auto-cam system that automatically changes the cameras height, pitch, angle, and can even turn corners all designated by volumes placed by level designers (me). You can complete all the levels without touching the camera stick once as that was a requirement in our playtesting. Sadly what we see a lot if people handling this game the same as those that do not have the auto camera and thusly constantly fight it with the stick or play it like an fps game with keyboard and mouse. Give it a try and let the camera do its thing, you'll be surprised how good of a job it'll do on its own!
I'm not a fan of modernizing SA2. The very concept of Roger Craig Smith voicing Sonic with the Forces Model in SA2 hurts my soul. 😔 I prefer the quills long and dark toned, Sonic's skin decently tan to orange, and his voice at least similar to Ryan Drummond's take on Sonic. In fact I'd prefer any potential voice acting to sound practically identical to how it was in SA2. Optimistic edgy Sonic, soothing deep voiced Knuckles, slick low pitched Shadow, it peaks there. Same with the color of the characters. No one should be any lighter, no one should be longer, the bulbise proportions were charming. Quill colors, muzzle colors all the same. Remastering the game sounds awesome, but brightening everything, altering the higher altitude camera angle, janking the physics, no thanks.
It's clearly too early to think on a SA2 remake since the most recent remakes are boost formula game with already the new voice cast. I guess we have to see the situations of SEGA and Sonic Team when a potential SA or SA2 remake will be announced cuz those games are so important they can't remake them now
3:53 Actually, ring bonus is instant, not at the end of the stage, so you can get hit as much as you want as long as it doesn't cause you to lose too many points!
You know what i always found funny. How no one liked sonic 06 because of how unfinished and buggy that game was..yet i always had the same feelings with sonic adventure 1 and 2. I have s-ranked them all and they are badly made buggy messes, each and every one of them. I would say the worst part of 06 is probably the high speed sections which is what probably puts it above the other two in why it gets dunked on so hard. But yeah its just funny how no one seems to ever complain about how buggy these other ones are
Honestly all they need to do is remake the game at a couple more mini games and maybe a handful of new missions . And upgrade like do an absolute overhaul on the Chow system . And make an app for the chow . And that's just me coming up with a rough draft

It looks like it has the charm of the original, animations especially, but it also looks like a "SEGA, HIRE THIS MAN"
I personally blame the infinity engine
