Honestly, falling flat on his face from high altitude seems to be Sonic's catchphrase. More games that's featured him doing that than there are mainline games with Shadow in it.

Sonic Prime "Officially" takes place in the video game continuity, but also contradicts the video game continuity and doesn't cleanly fit anywhere in the timeline. Until these problems get cleaned up, the show is more safe to consider something more along the lines of "canon-adjacent" rather than actually being a full fledged part of the games continuity. That is to say, until they manage to make it fit properly the games are (somehow) canon to the show but the show isn't canon to the games.

We think it's his catchphrase because of the Sonic X tv show which used it in the cartoon's opening theme. "Gotta go fast! Gotta go fast! Gotta go faster faster, faster faster faster!" That theme has been ingrained in my head for years despite never having seen the show itself. Ps. The UK did not get the European theme, we got the US version because of Fox Kids 😅
