    Atriox indeed is the Jiralhanae equal to John or Thel. The combo of his strength, prowess, cunning, intelligence, and luck is near un-match. In personality and resolve he's almost (in the context of Halo) human. Mixed with his charisma and his oration skills, he is both terrifying and awe-inspiring. Though I really like Atriox and his lore, I frankly feel like with Halo Wars 2, we aren’t really seeing that sort of ideological thought provoking conflict nor have we seen him in action aside from when he fought the Spartans. I get that they don’t want to reveal their ultimate card yet but all this lore and build up really should be reflected more on the actual game. Something I hope for with Halo Infinite. It’s still confusing as to why the Banish seem to take a lot of opposition to humans even when they’re ex-covenant who fully know that the war against humanity was bullshit.

    • @fadelsukoco3092
      @fadelsukoco3092 4 года назад +3

      I always thought that the Banished simply attacked the Human research outposts on the Ark since they were on the Ark. The Banished want the Ark to themselves and couldn't afford to have the UNSC interfere in their plans. Same reason they attacked the Spirit of Fire, they were not only a means to which an outside party could compete over their objectives, but a credible military presence of their own.

    • @sylvasilva2851
      @sylvasilva2851 4 года назад +3

      I doubt the Banished actually despise humanity. They simply take what they want from whoever has it, and in the post-war era, humanity has made many power seizing moves. Quite literally, next to the Covenant Remnants groups, the UNSC stands currently as one of the most powerful factions in the galaxy. Humanity is a great obstacle that the Banished must overcome. Why negotiate trade deals and the sort when you can simply take what you want for a much cheaper price; most especially when you have warriors, warriors, and even more warriors at your disposal?

  • @threesofthree6100
    @threesofthree6100 3 года назад +2

    Despite having only been part of the lore for such a short time, the Banished are already my favorite faction in the Halo universe. There's no coercion, no forced recruiting or enslavement. Atriox is no barbarian marauding across the galaxy. He's a fierce and effective leader, orator, and warrior. Every member of the Banished joins purely of their own free will. They *choose* to follow him. It's so different from the religious zealots and fanatics from the Covenant. And even in regards to their other prominent figures, things are a stark contrast. With the exception of Decimus, the Jiralhanae leaders in the Banished are cunning, tech savvy, and intelligent. Pavium is responsible for overhauling and improving Covenant technology and helping to create the arsenal unique to the Banished. Voridus is an expert on Forerunner technology such that he's become adept at utilizing Infusion Gel for various functions. Everything about them is such a brilliant contrast to the Covenant, and I am immeasurably excited to see the role they play in Halo Infinite.

    I'd loved Atriox as a character ever since I first saw him. He's like a Genius Goliath, which is a freaking terrifying combo. And it's because of his great intellect that I can't help but wonder about the extent of his knowledge. I don't think he chose the Ark just because 'shiny toys go ka-pow-pow'. No, I think he was after knowledge its archives held.
    Which us why I'd like us to become unlikely (and very temporary) Allies with him. I'd also love him to HINT, not outright tell, at future global threats, which we will encounter in the future trilogy (with Jerome possibly being their MC?)

      Ironically, just like in Halo, this was swept under the carpet by the american media aka the newspapers and the local/state govts. The midwest expansion saw the rise of the outlaws and gangs after the gold rush of the 1840s into the manifestation of the american "destiny" by 1852 when the populations began booming on the east coast after the mexican ameican war. Much like how Atriox and his banished grew in power after the great schism and even beyond the reproach of Jul M'dama's fledging Covenant remnants.
      Now, the United States was split by the civil war over the issue of slavery. The rich white elites of the south were very averse to the economic and social impact that abolishing their right, from what they saw, of owning lesser species did. They fought to own slaves and be rich off of killing, raping, and abusing thousands of black slaves. When the south lost the war, the subsequent reemergence of outlaws and gangs after 1865 became very apparent. Most of these groups were former confederates aka southern soldiers who were trying to fight the northern yanks aka the military and local law around Wisconsin, North Dakota, Colorado, and Kansas. The much larger remnants of the confederates became raiders and outlaws until they eventually formed the Ku Klux Klan. This time of chaos after the war made congress vote to allow the military to occupy the southern states and force these renegades out. This lasted for almost 10 years until eventually the southern senators of the "then" democratic party parlayed/politically maneuvered the "then" pro-abolitionist republican party to get rid of the troops in the south. The republicans did it so they could win the presidential election the next year and the democrats could reinvigorate the "southern" culture. Slavery was abolished but they enacted the black codes which gave rise to the Jim crow laws and thus the systemic racism of blacks began again. They were free on paper but the south treated them like shit and did it to every other colored person as well.
      The systemic racism faced by blacks was downplayed by the United States Government.

    Halo began with 2 factions, the Covenant and the UNSC.
    Little by little it began to develop and after the end of the Human-Covenant war, we find that there are several factions established or emerging to claim or reclaim the galaxy, making Halo very vibrant.
    This is a short list of factions currently active in the Halo universe:
    - UNSC/UEG
    -United Rebel Front (never explicitly shown, but they are active in UNSC space and beyond, slowly coalescing from multiple splinter factions into a dedicated force of their own. A future Halo conflict could see a Human civil-war, between the UNSC trying to reestablish its holdings and an emboldened and more unified URF making a serious case for their independence).
    - Covenant remnants (by this I mean groups that still hold to the dying ways of the old Covenant, a dying group, but still present)
    - Swords of Shanghelios, the first Elite led government since before the Covenant and the ones who will most likely inherit most of the old Covenants assets. Finally unified and beginning to spread to other parts of the Shangheili colonies and more.
    - The Created, currently the most powerful faction as they have completely appropriated Forerunner technology, an AI led faction with delusions of grandeur. They must be stopped, but even then they can simply go into exile and regain their strength.
    - The Prometheans. It is implied that we have not seen the last of the Didact and so he could return and take over a large force of Prometheans to create a new Forerunner civilization. We know this is his plan and that he may have a way to bring back the Forerunners, but only time will tell how this story will develop.
    - The Flood. They are the ultimate enemy. They must be stopped before they grow too big, but they appear in different numbers throughout the current timelines, the last time was in Halo War 2, but it is certain that this will not be the last time we will have to face this most terrible enemy.
    - The Banished, you just covered it, but it is emerging as a 4th pillar of power in the current galaxy, the other 3 being the UNSC, the Swords of Shanghelios and the Created.
    - Kig-Yar queens. This is a loose confederation of pirates and scavengers, but they have the potential to grow significantly and remain a powerful player. Specially right now as the big factions have much bigger issues, it gives time for the Kig-Yar to more or less get their house in some sense of order and become a player in the new galactic society that will emerge.
    - Grunt community. The Grunts have had a terrible history and have been suffering from more or less everything until very recently. But as of the latest story developments, Cortana has graciously gone to Balaho and effectively more or less solved all the current troubles of the Grunt and given them not only a stable starting base, but also advanced technology. Once the created are defeated, this will allow the Grunts to develop their own technology and empire, especially to defend themselves from being taken over as they once where. The Grunts ability to reproduce extremely rapidly gives them a near inexhaustible supply of bodies to throw at any problem, being war, development or science and this with a stable base to start with should allow them to develop rapidly even once the Created withdraw their support.
    - The Yanme'e Hives. Not much is known about the current state of the Yanme'e (Drone) hives, but they are industrious and capable. I would not be surprised if they emerged as a galactic power in their own right as they have advanced technology to draw inspiration from and a dedicated workforce to create a powerful force from. Whether or not this comes to pass has not been touched upon, but the potential is there.
    - Brute Skeins. This is different from the Banished and represents the Brutes in their original hierarchical environments. A Brute Skein is a union of clans, obviously a forced annexation, but it creates a clear hierarchy of power with these powerful groups holding sway over millions if not billions of Jiralhanae and claiming anywhere from continents to entire planets and entire solar systems.
    Since the fall of the Covenant these groups have suffered everything from a shortage of resources, to internecine conflicts, but they are slowly getting their act together.
    Once again, the Created conflict could give them time to sort their house and redevelop. The Brutes have the dubious distinction of having bombed themselves back to the stone age twice due to nuclear conflict, but it means that they can develop advanced industries and societies and are only held back by their warring instincts. But with space travel available and an understanding of such concepts, their returning to the stone age is highly unlikely. They have many issues, but they have the intelligence to fix them and so can emerge as a powerful force in the galaxy in the years to come.
    There, that is my rambling on how the current faction climate exists currently in the Halo universe. I hope we could have all of these factions properly developed in a manner similar to 40k. But I can only dream.

    Have to give a critique!
    These forces have been a part of a covenant for since they knew about themselves. They can't simply switch off their habits, attitudes, practices, or patterns of organization, warfare and other important parts of their character built in them by the covenant or the experience they gained and probably grew up with. They will continue them. Especially brutish type as the brutes are.
    Second thing, what do you think will they do once they get to rule? Once their sense of self importance and ego grows?
    You seem to concentrate on race realtions and diversity issues. I think that these are the things least on their minds. Mercenary, renegade companies in human history were indeed diverse, and inclusive, but anything but benevolent, good natured, orderly or to a point a positive force. They were always (even if positive force at times) possesion motivated. Which can turn ugly. Very fast.
    Besides they accept criminal parts of the humanity and other races into their ranks. What do you think these individuals would influence this purposeless (save for the material and financial gain) party?
    I believe rather, that covenant is the thing that held these guys on a leash to release them when needed and stopping them when not. Since there is no covenant they will do what they like. Yes they will do less damage now, since they are next to directionless, and not as organized, but far from being a force for good whatsoever.

      1 year later, but that is an interesting observation.
      Many of the Banished members are shown to have some psychotic tendencies. Jega 'Rdomnai, Decimus, Hyperius, Inka 'Saham, Zeretus and Chak 'Lok are great examples of this. The only reason they never could've thrived on their perverse hobbies is because they were restricted by the Covenant's religious dogma. Since there is no more religion to hold on, they are free to fulfill their twisted desires.
      The Banished also seem to have some hypocrisy among them, as two of their legions are the Ravaged Tusks and The Legion of the Corpse Moon. These Brute clans are known raiders and slavers.
      But isn't slavery the whole reason the Banished stood up against? Seems like Atriox let too much power get into his head.

    You know, now that I think about it, it's entirely possible that his thrashing of the Spartans was his attempt to break the will of the UNSC forces and convince them to enter a dialogue. They're supposed to be the absolute best that Humanity has, so by utterly dismantling a team of them, by himself, he could show that he is not someone you trifle with.

    it's the ideological differences the Banished have with the Covenant that really makes me hope that maybe an agreement can be hashed out between the Banished and whatever remains of Humanity in Halo Infinite. The banished aren't "Evil" and weren't formed out of lies and deceit, and considering the lateral thinking they display, it would not surprise me if they agreed to some kind of compromise with humanity.

    Damn. When you really look at it, the Covenant politics post & pre war are very complex, just as complex as the TV series I had been watching called "The Expanse", also reminds me of the UEG/UNSC would have similar problems politically as a massive cultural shock to the system knowing humans are not alone in the universe. I'm surprise as a single political entity that the Covenant held for thousands of years, as more species join, brutes being the last species. The Prophets were playing a very dangerous game trying to keep a monopoly on power which history has taught us it doesn't last long & often end violently.

    The one thing I don't understand about the Banished is why they want to attack Humanity. In Halo Wars 2, the Spirit of Fire was in the way of Atriox's goal on the Ark, as well as a standing "No one is to go to the Ark ever" rule between the Covenant and Humanity from what I remember of the novel "Hunters in the Dark." In that scenario, I understand the Banished attacking humans. However, the Banished audio teaser for Halo Infinite said that the Banished are going to use the Halo Ring on Humanity which is what the Covenant wanted to do so I figured Atriox wouldn't want to use the Halos out of principle. Atriox holding a grudge against Humanity for all the Brutes that were killed on the Suicide Missions Atriox was sent on doesn't entirely make sense since Atriox is willing to put differences aside amongst other races of the Covenant since it was the Covenant that sent Atriox and his battle brothers to death, Humanity was just as much of a victim considering why the Human Covenant War was started in the first place.

    The sad truth of the Brute armory is that they are the least developed faction armory wise.
    If you substract all Covenant weapons from the Brute armory, you get only about 5 or 6 weapons. Compare that to even the Prometheans and the scales are extremely unbalanced.
    Hopefully with the Banished being a new antagonist faction, the Brute Armory will get a substantial upgrade and overhaul that will give the warmongering Brutes an armory to match their combat instincts.

    The banished have one very large problem. Logistics. The UNSC and the Covenant had breadbaskets and industrial centers but for all we know, Atriox still relies on raiding or just buying them. Unless they're going to be something like space Mongols, then I don't see them being realistic antagonists outside of small scale incidents (small scale only when large scale would also be a galactic scale). Maybe in a galaxy under siege by the created... a organization like the banished may be an enemy that Cortana has trouble with, since she can't give them the same "liberation and safety" speech that the Ungoy got lmao/

    • @18Krieger

      The UNSC and Oni are quite aggressive towards Covernant Splitter Factions.
      It could also just be that Atriox dislikes the UNSC for their policies and for being the only Opposition to him. On the Ark the lab was a potential danger because Atriox knew the UNSC would not tolerante him on the Ark. So he destroyed it. The Spirit was seen as threat aswell. Atriox was probably just pragmatic.

It is hard for me to see the Banish as a threat to humanity because I still do not know the reason why the Banish want to fight the UEG. I do not think Atriox would be the kind of individual who would be picking fights just for the sack of fighting. I see him more of an entrepreneur who capitalizes on any opportunity he can get to make the banished stronger. The Banished as to what I know are pretty much like a looting criminal syndicate gaining significant traction with the power vacuum of the post human covenant war. They might enter the political realm and unify the Jiralhanae pretty soon. Atriox is very much like Napoleon the first or Alexander the Great for the Brutes.
