It's hard to describe but this song feels like it has a history and a future deep in my brain. Every time there is an other part of the song or instrument that scratches an itch
Been waiting for the properly mixed version to drop since this aired live. The heaviness of this cut makes the grooviness stand out. It's even better than the album version imo. I do kinda wish the vocals were mixed ever so slightly higher though.
Live sessions are a bit different to engineer/mix the drums naturally will bleed into the vocal mic. So when mixing, if you bring up vocals ,you just also brought the drums up even more. It’s a balance. You just gotta work with mic bleed live.
Yeah, it's an absolutely amazing version. Album version is mind-blowingly good, probably the best song on an overall astounding album, but man they manage to raise the bar even higher here.
It is a good version and the vocals are more intense. Magma feels so much more havier and energetic, but it loses a lot nevertheless, the studio version is much more intrincate and is played perfectly, this one sounds like a different song(which I also like).
I was lucky enough to see them in Seattle the day before they recorded this. They closed the show with the exact same set they did at KEXP (Ice V, Iron Lung and Magma.) Ice V and Iron lung had come out already, but I was surprised they were closing on a brand new track, especially one nobody had heard yet. They then proceeded to sound pretty much exactly like they sounded here, except with a giant pulsating red mass behind them, projecting magma-red light across the theater and crowd. It was unbelievable. See this band whenever and wherever you can, you wont regret it.
10 years from now we will all look back and know beyond the shadow of a doubt that this band brought back rock music. nobody else is even doing it close to them. greatest in the world.
This summons something deeper and more archaic than just humans making noise and us listening. Feels like archetypal power moves through them. Fucking rocks...and magmas
Agreed. From a technical perspective i'd like to see where cavs fits into the greatest drummers of all time (taking difficult time signatures into account and a slightly different beat for the vast majority of their enormous catalog) and Amby's chops on his harmonicas also have to make the list given the way he fits it into grooves rather than simply soloing on the top of passage a song. but the way the entire band can make the performance of each song unique based on feel and by employing vocal and visual queues is unparalleled in modern bands.
It makes me think of changes cuz there a lot of songs like Change, Hate Dancin and AstroTurf where they sound super bright but the lyrics are almost as apocalyptic as ice death planets
These guys played in Argentina in march this year. I work with the opener band 'Winona Riders'. The level of live performance they manage is amazing, mesmerizing, probably the best show i've ever been to. Gizz was also sick!
These guys are so unreal. It's hard to comprehend the fact that one person can be this good at something, let alone 6 people at the same time in the same group. Truly remarkable stuff.
