      Totally wrong: Gaddafi killed civilians for decades. USA didn't care because Libya was a very important oil producer for the USA. Europe didn't care because they had an agreement with him to close his boarders to Europe for african refugees. this went for years until he threatened to start selling oil for other currencies than the US Dollar and to open the his boarder to the sea for refugees to be able to enter Europe. This why USA and Europe got rid of him. pretty simple that whats happened.

      It's almost like making the world a better place is a little harder than shoving a bayonet up a despot's ass. It was a good effort though. I mean, we did take the most successful state in North Africa and turned it into a war-torn deathtrap ostensibly ruled by a new military dictatorship, with an open slave trade. Good job, us. We really did a fine job of ruining the lives of 7 million people.

    • @esameagurni6432
      @esameagurni6432 5 лет назад +70

      @@Voluse I can answer that for you. It was better, in the sense that there was no killing no armed militias controlling cities and doing whatever they want. But that doesn't mean it was amazing. Life was shit back then, Qaddafi and his people were living on oil money while Libyans were poor and having to work two jobs to make a living. The education was deteriorating and the infrastructure of the country was getting worse and worse. Most of the roads are either since the Italian occupation or the last king ( we talking about 50s and 40s infrastructure). He executed people who opposed him in 90s and forced the others to leave the country. We talking about a country rich in oil with a population less than 6 millions. The country literally was dependant on Qaddafi and his ruling by force and fear, and as soon as he was gone the country went to shit because he left nothing after him to keep the country going.
      My parents tell me about how in the 90s they had to choose between buying formula milk for me or bread for themselves. Because of the blockade on the country in 90s people didn't have food to buy and the blockade happened because of his policies against the west. From bombing aircrafts from the sky (Lockerbie) to his war against Chad where Libyan soldiers left to die in the desert after he changed his mind about occupying the northern part of Chad.
      I can keep going about his ruling of Libya but you get the point. We went from a shitty situation ( I can't blame people for trying to change it) to an even shittier state.

    Im from Libya, you explained the situation very well, and just to give a little more information.. There was an agreement in general between the two "governments" for a general election to be held in 2019 with the UN overseeing it to make sure it was fair. But haftar recognising that he will not win, claimed that thete will never be a fair election with militias in Tripoli and broke the peace by attacking Tripoli.
    Me personally, i dislike both sides, one is basically a new Gaddafi but with out the charisma and smarts to hold tge country together desperately trying to emulate the Egyptian coupe. The other is semi-democratic semi-saywhatyouwantwewillstillfuckyou type of government,where we have freedom of speech but the amount of corruption is very high...

They had the highest per capita income in Africa and one of the highest in the world. Then the West removed Gaddafi and since then, Libya became a wasteland and a warring land.*

      It wasn't so much what they gained but what they stood to gain. Another regional ally, possible air, ground and naval staging area in the med/ Africa, oil contracts and infrastructure contracts (Libya desperately needs to rebuild roads, buildings etc. And the oil money was mostly being squandered) possible military equipment contracts as most of the Libyan military is using cold war Soviet equipment and modified civilian equipment. List goes on.

    I'm from Libya and this is a story I wanna share.
    I live in a pretty dangerous area in Benghazi and there was a pretty notorious guy with a lot of dangerous friends. He was a gang member yet he managed to enlist in the military and have a badge.
    One time he was driving, poking fun at a cop and he kept slandering him and just being a dickhead. The cop got pissed and he pointed his gun telling him to piss off, then suddenly the guy got out with his gun threatening the cop and he had no option but to shoot him, one at the shoulder, and another in his eye, he was announced dead at the hospital.
    When the cop new about this later he shot himself, because he knew his friends were going to do something very terrible to him or even his family.
    This story is like many others and I think the root of the problem has to be in the Libyans' mentality.

  • @A.Severan

    As a Libyan I’d say that starting from mid 2014 it all went downhill and it’s the Islamists to blame. They lost two elections fair and square by a landslide since we voted overwhelmingly for the liberals, and if Islamists get democratically defeated they will resort to violence. This is pretty much the default right-wing mindset (at least over here), the end justifies the means. As for Haftar he is also a disaster, we actually somehow managed to gradually get rid of the islamists, contain the militias and improve the economy but his new war brought us back to square one. Having to choose between dictatorship or theocracy is like choosing between AIDS or cancer, we didn’t ask for any of this. And we definitely fought and voted for a liberal democracy.

    I am a Libyan citizen how lives in Tripoli,Janzour. I would like to thank you so much for bringing light into this issue as for right now Libya is going threw a very rough time the Libyan citizens are calling it the end of Libya. Kids are hearing missiles like it's the ice cream truck right when they hear a sound of a missile they go outside and look at it smiling of joy cause they got used to all the missiles and they find it amusing. Until know the war hasn't calmed down at all each day Halftar's troops are getting closer to Tripoli but, still every time they get on the doors of Tripoli they get pushed off by the militia forces. However there is a lot of support for haftar from the Libyan citizens as haftar has pushed away a lot of ISIS groups out of the country and people had enough of these militia's running around like they own the place. Most of the citizens though don't want Haftar neither do they want the militia's all they want is a peaceful country. One last thing I personally was bugged out you didn't talk about was how this war effected normal civilians. Libya has a problem with over trafficking you might wonder why as we are only 6 million. yeah we are 6 million but most of the Libyans are all in one place Tripoli which cause's a lot of traffic in the roads and Libyans are inpatient especially now more than ever cause of the holly month of Ramadan everyone is fasting so everyone is at the edge so when a little kid who is 12 year's old goes and shoots a middle aged man cause he caught him off that's the real consequences of war this kid thinks he can kill everyone cause there is no one to stop him this happens everyday since the beginning of Ramadan someone died in the street trying to buy his family the milk the desired then a scumbag goes and shoots him and let's not forget that all the thefts are coming out cause they know no one can stop them as everyone is busy with this war.
