@John Gill The majority of terrorists involved in 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia, including Bin Laden. A significant amount of Al'Qaida's funding comes from Saudi Arabia. This is perfectly well known.
That also about covers the second point about their funding of terrorism. They did also support ISIS and Boko Haram in Iraq and Nigeria respectively and they're involved in their very own genocide against the people of Jemen. With the active assistance of the USA, naturally.

Or that a large part of the reason for the Cuban revolution was due to the cuban's dissatisfaction with the USA supported dictatorship that was in power at the time and had privatised most of the nation's assets so that they were owned by USA corporations. "Communism" wasn't really the issue that kept the embargoes going for 50 years, it was the butthurt of wealthy people in the USA who lost their Cuban assets that they had acquired from a corrupt dictatorship. Unfortunately the revolutionary leaders proceeded to set up another flavour of corrupt dictatorship but that is how revolutions generally go.
Remember that the USA embargo doesn't just apply to USA companies trading with Cuba but every country in the world that trades with the USA can not trade with Cuba. This is how trade policy is used as an extension to military force and an example of the economic influence and power of the USA military.

This is a very polarizing and difficult topic for many Cubans I think. I was born in Cuba, raised in Miami, and I visit my family every so often. However, to be honest I get upset when I see non-Cubans visiting the island for the sole purpose of enjoying cigars and rum, because they are simply providing more money to the oppressive government. I go there and see the terrible living conditions of my non-communist family members, and just cry at the deteriorating condition of society, and thank my mother for taking me out of the country. When you visit as a tourist all you are seeing is what the government wants you to see, all you are hearing is what the government allows people to say. Cubans would not risk their lives in the ocean to get to America if Cuba was as "great'" as tourists say it is. When doctors make less than the equivalent of 50 US dollars a month and a bottle of cooking oil costs 2 US dollars, you realize the country is exploiting Cubans who have family abroad who can send them money. It's disgusting.

Im cuban and I dont think the embargo efficient, is only gonna create a bigger economic crisis and eventually more cubans are gonna leave (almost all of us have family in US) If Trump is so against migration like he says he should let Cuba trade with US and the private sector will grow. The problem is that cubans living in the exile have suffered so much for generations they want to see the communist system fall (i agree and believe me I want the same thing) but the embargo doesn't work, for 60 years they have lived in poverty and isolation, the island cannot maintain itself. The embargo keeps the people poor and keeps the government in power.

In fact more changes and freedoms were seen when Obama opened relations to Cuba than in the last few decades..

In my personal experience, these sanctions not only hurt the cuban population, but also feed the imperialism narrative that they constantly feed to the people of Cuba. The US embargo and any other sanctions are used to explain/blame for food and other product shortages. Also I believe these actions taken by Trump serve him to gain favor in Florida, since the majority of the cuban population there is republican and they are in favor of strong measures against the cuban government, regardless of the consequences to the population. Thank you for making this video.

Wouldn’t you hate a government that made you or your parents flee their country, that took their homes and businesses away? Then you have the people who left in the exodus of the 80s, the Mariel. Those people were not allowed to return for years, it destroyed families. They have reason to hate the government. But policies like this don’t affect the government in the way they expect. The people are the ones that suffer.

I think the Obama administration had the right idea. We can't change the Cuban government overnight. If keeping harsh sanctions and embargoes didn't make Cuba do anything different in the almost two decades following the dissolution of the USSR, then maybe changing our approach to them is the right thing to do. Obama realized that the best approach to dealing with a very disagreeable regime is not to say "Don't do these bad things or we'll hurt you!" and instead to say "Do these good things and we will help you".
I really hope the next president reinstates Obama-era diplomacy with Cuba and expands it, including removing the embargo (with help from Congress).
I also the same approach needs to be taken towards Iran. Especially because if we don't give them a good reason to trust us soon, they could start developing nukes.

Wall of text incoming : As a Cuban balsero aka rafter I have a very unique perspective on this issue. I came to the US at the age of 4 and have become a US citizen since. I've been back a total of 3 times to visit my family and my wife's. The true reality of the situation is that the Cuban people have been brainwashed by their government. It sounds out of this world but it's true. The problem has NEVER been the fault of the US government or its embargo tactics. The Cuban government has always been the one that has oppressed its people. The embargo certainly doesn't help nor will it ever help the people in Cuba but neither have the tactics that Obama implamanted. In my eyes the tactics were toooooo soft. A better move would have been to lift the embargo but not give any support to Cuba or open any kind of political stance. Let the people fight for their freedom. The Cuban government was the one that broke relations with the US when it HARMED the US diplomats at the embassy. Even the Canadian diplomats got some of that ultrasound high frequency crap blasted to them and Canada has been friends with Cuba for a while. So you see it's never been the fault of outside countries, it's always been the Cuban government. I have family that says that at times they don't have bread to eat or it's very hard to find certain types of foods. Shits sooooo bad that they say they are going through a second "periodo especial" or special period. During the collapse of the USSR they had the first special period. People literally died from starvation because the Cuban government didn't have any resources to feed its people. You couldn't even buy food if you had the money, which you wouldn't have if you were not connected with government officials. Dude, the experts in this video don't know the REAL fuckin truth about shit. The Castro regime and the Cuban government are EXACTLY like the Nazi party. They kill and have oppressed the people of Cuba and keep things under cover. There are not enough words to explain how CRAZY SHIT IS OVER THERE.

Here's something I don't remember getting a lot of press, but (in my opinion) an important action by the Obama administration regarding Cuban citizens. In January of 2017 (weeks before Obama left office) Obama announced an end to the 20-year-old "wet foot, dry foot" policy that allowed most Cuban migrants who reach U.S. soil to stay and become legal permanent residents after one year. I remember finding it unnerving that his administration would open up relations with the Cuban government, and before the Cuban people experience any meaningful improvement in their quality of life (or lack thereof), Obama decided to end the decades old policy designed to protect the Cuban citizens fleeing a dictatorial regime. Just wanted to add this bit of information to the conversation. It didn't make the headlines, however it was reported. Curious what others think. www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/01/12/obama-ends-wet-foot-dry-foot-policy-cubans/96505172/

I think people make out Cuban-American relationship to be too straight forward. As a Canadian, it always amazes me how many Americans don't know all the events of the Missle Crisis and the overall history dating back to pre-revolution Cuba and what caused it. It's something I really encourage everyone to look into (who put up the first missiles and where, why the revolution happened). You also have to look at all of the USA's allies and their relationship with Cuba. I'm not trying to defend anyone's politics, it's just very interesting. When it comes to the really big players, it's mostly just the USA with this tense relationship. Not speaking on anyone's government or politics, but I love the country and the people so that's where my biases lay. But honestly, a lot of non-Americans I know don't want to see an Americanized Cuba, self-included.

Thank you Phillip for finally touching on this subject. Im a Cuban exiled now living in the USA and can comfirm to you without the shadow of a doubt how greatly Obama's policies empowered the Cuban people, to the point that communities were starting to publicly curse and shame the goverment on the streets and we finally were seeing a *key word* --> *CONSTANT* push back from the people on the goverment laws and dictatorial ruling. I can confirm that the lives of my people got better and the economy was much better because for the first time in a LONG time the money was flowing through more citizens than ever before. I can also on the same breath tell you how dire the situation is at the moment in Cuba, Things are REALLY REALLY BAD, many food shortages and you cant find much of anything.. Some might suggest that this is because Venezuela is in Crisis and therefore has affected Cuba the same, since both governments are so close.. However Venezuela has been in Crisis for a few years and Cuba's situation has only turn to bad ever since Trump administration reverted all the changes that the Obama administration put in place. When I or anyone Independently visit Cuba, we use the taxis from private owners , we rent the houses from private families, we buy the food and eat at private restaurants, We buy the art of private artists ect. Back in the 1960s had you told me that this political ideology of putting an embargo was gonna help to bring the Cuban Goverment down I might have believed it. However as the person in the video said, It has been 60 years of this ideology and there has been ZERO changes, things only get more dire and the people keep going hungry. The issue that I see most significant is that these politicians such as Marco Rubio and others who are 100 % in favor of the changes that Trump and his Administration are doing ; they no longer have any close family members in Cuba, They no longer visit the Island to see what is happening , they live in a echo chamber that reinforces their stupidity and pads their back by Old Conservative Cubans who think that just because your are trying to change things for the good of the people , makes them a communist (Obama)... They dont rationalize and understand that an embargo is not making the Government officials hungry , IT is only making the Cuban that works independently go hungry. To reinforce this , I can tell you that of my friends of whom have joined the goverment ranks are doing so to secure their family being, not because they give a sht about the communist ideology, we talk about this often when I visit. So yeah I dont know what is to come but I can tell you The Communist Goverment of Cuba is holding its people agaisnt the wall and The USA goverment has only been facilitating such situation with this idealism.

ParkourBigbird as a young Cuban I agree with Goodman, Cuba shouldn’t get anything until they stop treating their people like shit. It’s still a place that our grandparents left and a lot of the reasons they left are still around. The government is extremely constrictive and oppressive and I don’t think the US government should give Cuba anything until they reform this and start treating their people better. I desperately want to visit Cuba one day but the amount of friends and family that know that have family there that has been prevented from leaving is scary. This is not a country we should be lifting pressure from.

From what I gather, the idea is to not support the corrupt government until they start treating their citizens like human beings. How efficient this is, and why the same sentiment is not in effect in regards to Saudi Arabia and the likes...reasons/excuses vary.
Saudi Arabia is regarded as too volatile to ignore, and the US prefers to supply them with arms, as otherwise Russia or China would do it, and this way the US at least gets some capital out of it. I guess Cuba is seen as such a minor military threat, that the US can afford to basically "ignore" it. I would like to see similar actions being taken against Saudi Arabia and such countries as well, were it at all feasible.
Again, this is the situation as I understand it, albeit simplified, and it is in no way an expert analysis. I admit to being partial to giving Cuba as many reasons as possible to rethink their approach to human liberties and decency, but I concede that I am merely an onlooker with very limited knowledge.

      Exactly ...
Perhaps the main quid pro that Kennedy did, as part of the draw-down of the missiles from Cuba, was the equal removal of Pershing II missiles from Turkey.
He did that, not because of any weakness (as so often been claimed), but having realized Khrushchev, whilst slightly crazy, wasn't altogether stupid. And keeping the Pershing IIs in Turkey wouldn't have given Khrushchev an adequate reason to remove the Soviet missiles from Cuba. So, in the game of detente, it made sense for Kennedy to say 'I will move mine if, and only if, you'll not only absolutely guarantee you move your's out of Cuba, but actually do".

Obama did good with lessening the tight grip of sanctions we had on Cuba, shown through this, it shows the Cuban governemt started giving their citizens slightly more freedoms. However, taking them off the terrorism list and making complete normal relations again was a TERRIBLE idea. Cuba is still a major threat in Latin America, especially in Venezuela, where they have thousands of troops located. This power in Venezuela keeps Maduro in power, thus hurting Venezuelans more. So I think it's good to not act like everything is hunky dory like Obama did.

I’ve visited a lot of countries in Latin America and it was by far the safest. There is some censorship by the government, which did upset me. But our hosts were more than willing to sit down and talk with us about it. These sanctions only hurt them, not the government they try to destroy.

I remember before Obama improved relations, I worked at a IT call center and a woman called because her cell wouldn’t work. I tried explaining to her that Verizon wasn’t in Cuba and they are banned from making a partnership there. It took me 3-way calling a verizon tech to prove it to her, and sending her several articles about the US-Cuba relationship for her to release why she can’t fly straight to Cuba. There were ppl who had no idea that was a real thing until just a few years ago.
