- Anthony Daniels, who most famously portrays C-3PO in the Star Wars series of films, sits down with WIRED to discuss, in detail, the variety of costumes he has worn while filming Star Wars. Anthony explains just how he was able to fit into the costume and what his thoughts were when he first saw Ralph McQuarrie's designs.

I love how he mentions every set, every character, by the actual name in the Star Wars Universe, rather than just some ambiguous comment. It shows his absolute passion of the franchise and his true attention to detail.

For anyone wondering why he's such an amazing visual storyteller, ever so elegantly making smooth hand motions and incorporating sounds in perfect sync with them, it's actually because he was trained in pantomime before he did Star Wars.

With the deepfakes that are possible now, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw something like this in the near future.
You'd have to pay Mark Hamil a LOT of money to do that. He isn't a Star Wars fan and whenever he gets asked about the movie you can visibly see how disinterested he is

He's got an unusual manner of speaking and an interesting voice. After seeing a Star Wars documentary as a kid I found myself imitating him. I can only imagine how much I'd be doing it if I worked with him on a movie.

Anthony Daniels is a real professional, to be honest he could easily be pretentious about all of it and think himself above Star Wars (like Alec Guinness allegedly could be and Harrison Ford sometime is) but instead he absolutely loves it and knows how important his place is in the saga and how important it is in our lives. Glad I watched this, the man is a true poet and can't wait for his next performance.
Harrison doesn't see himself above it, he's just fed up of only being known for either indiana Jones or han solo.

Alec Guinness was right to see Star Wars for what it was: simplistic fun. There is nothing wrong with that. If I were a classically trained Oscar-winning knighted Shakespearean actor used to starring in drama roles, I wouldn't feel blown away by the moral complexity and conflict in Star Wars.

I can’t even imagine the feeling he had when the animatronic looked at him in the eyes, the character he had played for years
Like so many people here I am awestruck at the level that Anthony Daniels embraces his character. The moment he said Salacious Krum without hesitation or pause to try and remember the name just shows the passion this man has. Many actors often undervalue what their films and characters mean to us but people like Anthony and Mark Hamill understand that to some of us these characters are our friends and heroes.
I love watching fan reactions to various franchises I enjoy. Very few rival the fan reaction to Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker returning in the Rescue episode of The Mandalorian. Mark Hamill was blown away by it. It was the most unifying moment in Star Was fandom for a long time.

Aaaeeehhhh I quite liked the red but I can see why some wouldn't. It made for some good C3PO comedy and the fact that Anthony himself was genuinely annoyed with it sold the joke rather excellently. Then again, I really like The Force Awakens and was in a good mood by that point, especially given Han's reaction. Haven't seen the rest of the sequel trilogy but I hope to at some point. No spoilers please!

After watching and listening to interviews of Harrison Ford hating his character and being know for it, it's really nice to see how grateful and enjoying he is to have played this character.

Anthony Daniels seems like a truly wholesome person who loves C-3P0 with every fiber of his being. I hope that he is doing amazing and would like to say thank you to him for all he's done for Star Wars and suit acting as a whole.
I always loved Anthony Daniels. This man is just so pure, so real and gentle. His voice is so soothing too. I could listen to him talk about nothing and everything for hours.

It's so sweet how much love and dedication he put into the role of a robot, he made C3P0 as real as any of the actors with their own characters.
You can really feel his love for the character in this. I don't think anyone could have ever truly brought 3P0 to life like Anthony Daniels

It shows in his acting how much he truly loves his character. He puts his soul into it and there is really nothing that can beat that.
The claustrophobia I would experience in that outfit would drive me crazy!!! He could not even break his fall if he tipped forward... that would make me very nervous to be inside of it let alone try to remember lines and act. Thanks for your sacrifice, it really made my childhood!

Most actors resent having to wear full-body costume; Anthony Daniels owned it and brought to life one the most recognisable characters of all time: he's a legend!
It’s interesting that Daniels’ gesticulating emotion through the articulation limitations of the costume became a central part of the character’s seeming reticent attitude towards taking any rash actions. Some may have rejected such a stage limitation outright and given up. Yet this all contrasts with the character’s dialog of constant verbal siege on everyone else’s actions. This lent a complex and relatable wholeness to C3PO few robotic characters have achieved. The magic of theater, story telling, dreams and the human condition were wrapped up magnificently by Daniels.
and it makes sense, too. Would you bother giving a protocol droid amazing physical abilities? He just needs to show up and translate and be polite.

After 15 minutes I was wondering how long this thing was but I watched it all and loved every minute. 3PO was always one of my favourites and I forgot how iconic he is and revolutionary he was. I always thought he was a soulful character. So much expression while not being able to facially express it! Love it! And Anthony Daniels! Amazing actor to have given us C-3PO, a much-loved character.
His gentle soothing voice and excellent story telling is why I love him so much. His voice in the movies was absolutely heavenly, I found myself playing back the movie repeatedly whenever he said something because the of the softness in 3P0's voice
When I watched Star Wars as a kid I could never believe that a person could actually fit inside the C-3P0 suit. I wondered for so long how they did it. Even now it's hard to imagine with how skinny the arms, legs, and torso are. Not to mention how tight fitting the head is.
It's amazing he remained trim enough to still wear the suit decades and decades later.
I've had the same thought for decades. It wasn't in my head as a kid in the 80s. But yeah that's a tight fit
They managed that with the frame of 3P0, by making the shoulders larger than the real life actor inside they could change proportions that would let the actor breathe a bit more while keeping the shape human-like. Genius stuff really

My favorite part of the whole thing is how gracious and complimentary he is toward everyone he worked with. He is candid about the unpleasant aspects of the costumes etc. Yet he tells all of it in a way so you know how dedicated and hardworking everyone who helped was. What a lovely fellow. Anthony Daniels is single handedly the most dedicated actor in all of Star Wars
Having gone in and voiced 3-P0 in every appearance since the original trilogy, including the various animated series' and even the obscure Droid Tales and Ewok adventure cartoons, Star Tours, etc., he's built up quite an encyclopedic knowledge of the story, the characters, it's quite impressive.
He would probably do surprisingly well during a Star Wars trivia event at a Convention, with all he's been personally exposed to in that Universe. 👍
I especially loved his imitations of George Lucas's voice.
Daniels has such a compelling voice, your just hanging on every word. He could talk about folding laundry and make it interesting.

Thank you for sharing this video. An actor who never forgot his lines after almost 40 years... That's dedication! Another understated character. I really respect his devotion and emotional connection to playing this character. He loves threepio and this part has been apart of his life for so long. So I would understand why he doesn’t want anyone else to play the role, he IS C3PO
