  • This musical short was comprised from numbers from the movie "Private Buckaroo" in 1942.
This is from the Amazon book "Harry James-Trumpet Icon" by Chuck Par-Due.
The first number is "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen."
This is followed by an UN-named instrumental in the vein of "Night Special."
"Harry plays “You Made Me Love You’.
Helen Forrest then joins the band to sing "He's A-1 in the Army."
He also plays a choreographed version of “James Session,” featuring a dance troupe of Hollywood young people.
“James Session” was a Jack Mathias composition, which paid homage to the Goodman version of “Sing, Sing, Sing.” Complete with Mickey Scrima playing a Gene Krupa-like to open the tune.
The musical highlight for Harry James was the only video of him playing “Concerto for Trumpet.”
While most of the music in “Private Buckaroo” was recorded on a soundstage, Harry’s performance of “Concerto” seems like it was recorded live.
The complete ease with which Harry played a solo that continues to baffle trumpet players eight decades later, is astounding by any measure."

The way a Trumpet is Supposed to Sound. We try to Imagine what 'Harry' would sound like Today with more advanced Audio Systems.

Speaking as a trumpet player, there is nobody today with a sound as big as Harry's.

As a kid, I threw Harry James under the bus, after seeing "The Harry James Story" movie.
I figured him to be a bum, so why bother?

Wow, you sure keep coming through with the great Harry James music. I sure wish we had some of this music on the radio today! Maybe folks would be a little kinder and more cheerful. Again, thank you sir!

This film has it all, the great Harry James, Helen Forrest and utterly spectacular dancing from the lone fabulously talented lady who kicks it off followed by an amazing ensemble of supremely good dancers -wonder who they all were and who choreographed them?Breathtaking stuff.

My dad, a WW2 vet, told me years ago that Harry was the best of all time. I have to agree

I think I read somewhere, whereby Harry James studied from a special trumpet book and went ahead and more or less learned it forwards and backwards.
If they ever find this special teaching teaching book, it should be reproduced for all the the new trumpet students of the world.

Some of the performance from this short was re created in a concert scene for the 1942 film Private Buckaroo which starred Harry James
