When can we see you attempt this kind of approach on a bust like this? That would be great as well! Keep up the awesome job and I loved this artistic approach just as much as that amazibg mustache, loved it!
I've been subscribed to their patreon for months now and their painting style is so refreshing. Going through the comment section and watching a lot of people essentially bash them or belittle them for no real reason is exactly why a lot of people don't respect mini painting as an art form. Because when actual artists try to express themselves in new or interesting ways; people are jerks about it.
That is so disappointing. Unquestionably, Marko and Aleksandra are extraordinarily talented and bring a very joyful and expressive if - certainly - different style to the hobby. Okay, view of it is extremely subjective, and maybe their style is not for some particular individuals, but that certainly does not justify criticism of a demeaning sort. Taking offense at what one sees in this video is just plain foolish; if it's not for you, okay, just decide not to take offense and move on. Sadly, that's too much for some, I guess ...
@@mdmnmdllr its strange as I was watching this and thinking "nope, don't like it, don't like it, really don't like it" but then at the end it's like WOW, its really damn good but no matter what I don't understand when people hate on another person, if you don't like it just don't watch, why try to put someones talent down
Watching this paint unfold was like watching a beautiful sunrise on a dewy morning with the sent of the woods on the air. I was immersed in the shear effortless way the paint went on.
My first comment in almost fifteen years of youtubing. I have a habit of reading comments before watching the video and this painting-of-a-comment made me write my own for the very first time. Cheers!
It's exactly the process my tattoo artist use when she's tattooing my skin, i found it ugly but at the end it's a photorealistic paint. More or less here, he starts adding colors that, makes no sense to a non trained person, and then it all starts to make sense. Not divine powers, just practice and talent! Amazing video

Thank's for this video to all who backed the KS and to you Emil for making this happen ! And thank's Aleksandra and Marko for sharing your technics with us !
This is one of the best painting videos I’ve ever seen. I love the way he used color not just to describe the subject, but as an opportunity to imagine the environment around her as well. Genius.
I think ther message is so important for mini painters. We generally need to get out of the paint by numbers mindset and become a bit freer and experimental in our painting. I found this video very liberating and informative. A very different way of doing things.
“Nothing is set in stone, everything can be adjusted and changed. The important part int he enjoyment in the process”. Truer words have never been spoken. Amazing video, I hope I can take a few of these skills away with me
Craftworld are great, I met them both early last year and did a painting class with them. Incredibly skilled, talented, creative and just great people overall!
I appreciate this video so so much, I have no words to express my gratitude. I've been wondering for so long how these two painting gods pull of their colorful models and I would have never guessed they started with a visible LSD trip as 'base coat'. I'm itching to paint something colourful now!
I've followed them on facebook for sometime now as something to aspire to. Glad I finally got a glimpse into the process, and help free my mind to other possibilities. Thanks Squidmar for hosting them, and thanks to Aleksandra and Marko for the free lesson.
So cool how the end result really brings out such detail. Not gunna lie I did fast forward it a lil at the start, but ima go back and watch the entire thing cuz WoW. These guys are gold! Tyvm Emil!
This painting technique is obviously not for everyone. I LOVE looking at the art from Craftworld, but I don't think I would try and copy Marko, which is fine, we all have our own styles. But even though Marko's style is not my style, there really is a wealth of knowledge contained in this video that I think will help me grow as a painter. I think there are nuggets of wisdom here that can be applied to any painting style, and I appreciate the time everyone took to make it. I feel like there are tons of paint-by-number miniature painting videos, and "abc's of technique" videos, but the videos that I have been enjoying the most are the ones that approach miniature painting not as a hobby but as an art form. I'm amazed by some of the people complaining about free content that maybe doesn't specifically apply to their personal taste, or painting niche, or that maybe wasn't mixed by a professional sound mixer. This was a great video. The content is more important than the production value. Giving feedback on issues that could be improved is one thing, but it feels like there are some people that just like to complain. I feel sad for those people that focus on the negative instead of being appreciative of the effort, but I guess that's just the internet and people taking for granted the amount of time it takes to make videos.
I just love how positive and encouraging these guys are; it's very humbling. I feel motivated to let the brush strokes and the colours lead me. Thanks, guys, you're awesome. :)
Wow. The style is so incredibly simple and yet overwhelming in it’s complexity. I intend to try something like this. Thank you for sharing it, Marco and Aleksondra. It challenges my bravery.
Really needed this honestly. As I feel like I'm getting better I'm beginning to lose interest because all my learnings so far have been very "Step 1, Step 2" regimented feel and it's starting to feel repetitive. But this really showed me that I need to start letting go of "recipes" and just be creative and no stress about the tiniest break in smoothness and just have fun. Thanks for this.
My absolute biggest tip for anyone painting is exactly this. Learn techniques, yes. Deliberately practice, yes, but just paint. Just paint what you want, how you want and don't get hung up on simple stuff. You'll sort through all those hang ups as you paint more and eventually it won't even be a concern. Just have fun. That's the most underrated, and single most important "tip" that never gets talked about.
You‘re blowing out premium content by the day it seems. Super cool tutorials and advice in this one, as well as the last masterclass. Keep up the phenomenal contribution to the community.
My favorite painter for sure! Can't figure out how he makes such vibrant colors work together but they do! No color seems to be at the right place, but the result is so right somehow...
He's using direct line contrasts almost everywhere. Main one on this is blue and orange and those colors naturally go well together. Then he branches out a bit in the colorwheel and adds a bit of purple, green and red which compliments against the main colors. You can pair almost whatever colors you want, the important part is placement. Drawing and painting is putting down lines and color that gives the illusion of something the brain can identify. Main focuses should always be on volume, saturation and light values, colors chosen are secondary.
@@ThomasGallinari It is very hard yeah. but that's where practice comes in. You mentioned the colors in your comment so if you understood the theory, i would expect you not to. Guess i misunderstood. Anyway, if you wanna practice placement, do what i do and paint black/white schemes where you focus on values and volume, it'll help a ton.
holy cow, I've never seen miniature painting like this before. Absolutely incredible but more to the point, it's less about *just* getting it to look as realistic as possible but still really has that artistic expression part that so much of miniature painting doesn't bring up or attempt to include at all. This was so awesome to see, thanks!
The video was so awesome and as a newbie seeing this was so enlightening after watching so many others that follow the same technique, I loved the difference and how he created such a vibe and beautiful figure, thanks for sharing.
What an incredible video. I think it might be the first miniature painting Patreon I’m going to subscribe to. The technique and mindset really speaks to me and man, I am in love with those colours! I’d be mighty pleased with myself just getting that so-called undercoat on there! Looks amazing!
45 minutes in and I gotta say, this is weird for me. Not weird in a bad way at all. Just a MUCH different painting process and style than what I'm used to seeing. And it's brilliant every step of the way. The best way for me to process it all, is to change the way I perceive him using colors. He uses colors as both a tool to set his values and temperature gradients. Rather than the normal way of portraying a specific part of the model by painting it a certain color we are familiar with (i.e. brown for leather or red/pink for skin) I enjoyed this. Looking forward to seeing other busts being painted and seeing all the different painting styles.
Wonderful content, and great tutorial. I love how many ways there are to achieve great results in painting, and it's so good to be exposed to things like this to try out and to learn from. ☺️👏👏👏
This type of painting always throws me for a loop. Traditional miniature painting has always taught me to "stay inside the lines" for lack of a better phrase. The outcome from not doing so is really awesome.
As an extremely obsessive-compulsive, object-oriented type, this sort of free-wheeling "let the paint go where it wants and lead you" technique (if that's the correct term) is extraordinarily hard to grasp as it's about the furthest from the process I've used myself over almost forty years of hobby. And yet I do love how this 'underpainting' process came around in particular for elements like the face, hair, and leather elements, as they were detailed and refined. This is definitely going to take some exploration to better grasp, and use on a pretty particular style of fig, but the result is unquestionably worth it and stands to lead in interesting directions. Damn that really is God Tier colour. I'm having palpitations thinking about it, but now I really want to have a go at something a bit more impressionistic. I did quite well at using a similar technique on canvas when I was at school, so hopefully I can bring that to bear on a mini, but that *was* 20 years ago. Even if those canvasses were the only thing I ever got an A on, I have to admit, I think this is going to take a *LOT* of practice.
So this is a nice tutorial, but this is more an advanced step thing for a lot of people that don't understand the basics of underpainting colors and how colors interact with one another. (The board game community often uses a similar trick with the subtitles, (ab)using the Klingon(!) channel for clarifications and rules corrections.)
I got started and have only painted DND minis, as in the 28mm with very light details. I'd like to see some of these high end painters do some of these 3 dollar minis with crap detail. THAT'S a challenge. Anyone can do good detail on a 3 inch tall mini that costs 40 bucks with tons of details that are crisp and clear...
amazing video but man the audio balance is horrible, can barely hear Aleksandra and the music is about 20x louder than her. At 48:38 it comes in so loud it completely covers her while she's still talking. would love a version of this with proper editing that doesn't have me cranking my volume up and down constantly while watching!
That under-painting technique is crazy! I think it assumes a LOT of understanding of hues, values and colours ... I'd love to use this method on Yndrasta from the new AoS: Dominion box, but that model is a much smaller scale and this method terrifies and excites me in equal measure
1 hour video!! I'm trusting you Emil...🙈🤣 Edit after watching: well, strange way to paint but surprisely cool result for sure. The hour is worth it haha thanks for sharing 😜

I knew I was out of my depth when he started shading and highlighting the eyeballs! (Amazing tutorial, though!)
amazing video but man the audio balance is horrible, can barely hear Aleksandra and the music is about 20x louder than her. At 48:38 it comes in so loud it completely covers her while she's still talking. would love a version of this with proper editing that doesn't have me cranking my volume up and down constantly while watching!
Prime > Highlight > Ambiance colors > wetblended base colors > shadows > highlights > countours.
Thank you for sharing this tutorial. That was amazing 👍👍👍
man it's so nice you bringing this kind of content, thanks Sir :)
I am thoroughly inspired! Good job!
Those colors really pop!
so you see everyone does it on his way , when you self like what you do and be happy with the result its good , i think
Wow! This guy is good. Definitely gave me some new ideas to try.
That under-painting technique is crazy!
I think it assumes a LOT of understanding of hues, values and colours ... I'd love to use this method on Yndrasta from the new AoS: Dominion box, but that model is a much smaller scale and this method terrifies and excites me in equal measure
Wow. He blocks in the colors like an oil painter.
That's because they're trained artists. They went to school for this.
That is amazing.
Good painter
