Coach you have helped me out a lot. Next year I am going into high school and I got a scholarship to play for a private school known for their basketball program. This off-season I’m hitting the perimeter scorer system hard again this summer just like last summer to be ready for the bigger competition I’m gunna face especially if play varsity. hello, im 14 playing basketball for 6 and a half months and my shooting form makes me so frustrated. EXACTLY 3 months ago i thougt i found my jumpshot and i just couldn't miss ( i dont have a team i played streetball and played in my school team) and it made me so happy because my brain just clicked,grab the ball shoot it, swish until now. my guiding handjust decided to fuck me up when i shoot now my fucking guide hand lifts the ball a quarter way and just drops. i remember vivdly my better shootijg form 3 motnhs ago but as much as i try my guide hand just doing the absolute oppisite i used to do. i know what im doing wrong but me litterally punching my guide hand untill it so much i can barely move it i.just.cant.tell my brain to do the right thing.
practice one handed form shots or just one handed shots in general from spots close around the hoop. Also regular form shots help. Doing these for like 15 minutes before my workout helped me remove interference from my guide hand and my jumper became so much more smooth and accurate. It'll feel a little uncomfortable and weird when adjusting and doing the one handed shots but you'll get used to it quick and it's so worth it. I had a bad thumb flick during my season and I completely fixed it over winter break doing these and I was a much better shooter. if you notice ur guide hand interfering even after doing these drills in the middle of your workout just stop what ur doing and do the form shooting again for a little bit.
