I was on the leeward side so there was no wind. I would check the weather. I do think tomorrow should be OK weather wise for shore. Bring heavy weights over there like up to 6oz
Nice early season catches! I'd recommend bleeding the fish out and braining them (ikijime) if possible. I think it makes a big difference in the meat, especially if you want to keep the fish fresher in the fridge longer or ageing the fish.
I left when I felt too uncomfortable. I went wide to see how the spot was before I fished it and I got there right before it went slack on and out going and it seemed tame enough. I was a little hesitant to put this video up because I don't want someone that just bought their first yak to go over there. That's why at the end of the video I made it a point to make people pause and think whether or not they think they are able to fish there and did the same in the description. Great fishing though!
Heading down there this weekend. Couple questions. How do you tell the difference between the male and female by looking? Have only freshwater fished and only know the sex when cleaning. Also out here we normally just sticking your thumb in the mouth and hold them that way. Is that not something that is done with saltwater fish?
It's the canal lol. The corner where you are in your pic was ripping by the time I left that day when the tide was incoming. I forget what kind of tide it was, but I'd be foolish to say it's not dangerous. It's definetly manageable, but mistakes happen and if the stars align just right you might not make it home falling in there. I'll definitely go again but picking better tides that I feel comfortable with.
And honestly I wasn't even going to put this video up in case someone who isn't that experienced in a kayak decides to go out and and gets hurt, but realized that adults should be accountable for their own actions and consequences. I feel very comfortable on my kayak and gone out way off the shores of RI and could see the windmills pretty clearly lol, but the canal, just doesn't "feel right" sometimes and I listen to that feeling and leave because I don't often get that feeling.
Thinking about it what actually makes that spot dangerous is the very corner on incoming because of the suction right there and very quickly changing directions of current as it hits the wall on incoming and it would be pretty easy to lose your balance and hit the wall the wrong way or god forbid you find yourself between the tugs and the wall behind that MMA brick building. I'll be going back in the spring though for sure, but on an outgoing lol. Hopefully see you out there or message me and I will happily meet up with you.
Says to remove and send in on the tag. A gentle man that used to put these particular tags in said just write where you caught the fish and you can release them.
thank you for mailing the tag! most people don’t send them in. helps with our research a ton!
Nice fishing great video the thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Nice. My favorite fish to catch.
Awesome catch 🤙
New into kayak fishing. Wondering where to launch a kayak around Buzzards Bay/Canal area. Great video
one of my favorite species to target
Was the water always calm like this. Planning on going to fish at mass maritime tomorrow but from shore?

I usually do that, but was feeling lazy that day. They were all fileted and two were cooked like 4 hours later.
NICE!! I've been out there with my MK106 no issues, never been that close to the mouth 🤔🤔🤫🤫

@@davedeefishing Heading out there Friday, try my luck 🎣
Hey how’s it going? Where is exactly this location? Is that near the Chartwells Buzzards Bay Restaurant?
Mass maritime academy

@@davedeefishing thank you my friend. Just a few weeks I’ll be there. Keep the vids coming.

Where's a good place to catch them from shore?
Canal is hot right now
is this at the Maritime acd?
Yes, don't know if I'll be going back over there lol. Very dangerous place to be. Great fishing though.
Dangerous how, crossing the canal? I did it once last season out of the pocasett River to get to a cove loaded with birds.

You only remove the tag if you keep the fish

they let you stand on the land for fish tautog
Not where I was. They let you fish on the rocks on the other side of the building that is on the canal. Trust me, I went to school there for a bit
@@davedeefishing thx you
Tag fish you're supposed to take the measurement and weight
Says on the tag to remove and mail that's it.
@@davedeefishing hmm okay thanks. Where can I tautog this weekend
