I really hope the GR4 removes all video features (like Hasselblad and Leica realized, some cameras are just not meant for video) and overall has a big upgrade in weather sealing. The iPhone 16 is a night and day better video camera than a GR…let alone a proper video/hybrid camera from other companies.
I'm with you on this. Video brings the overheating issue to the table as well, and considering how small the camera is and how tiny the battery is, it just doesn't make sense imho to make it a hybrid. Furthermore, if you seal it up from the weather, where is all that heat from the video gonna go? Photo only. Weather sealed and some other minor upgrades. Sold!
Man I just bought the 28, I did not think of covering the mics and speaker. That's wisdom right here. Idk what to cover them with yet, but I will find a way.
Great tips. But the biggest issue for dust on the sensor is lens expanding/contracting when turning on/off - that's how dust gets into the lens barrel. And the rear scroll wheel - dust can get through there onto the sensor apparently. It's a camera that needs to be babied to a certain extend. It's ok, I am happy with my GRs.
I went super anal trying to stop dust on my grii like this and it still happened. Just shoot it, have fun, clean it if you care, sell it if it upsets you.
The one I've got is by the brand called Deerekin. Full name is smth like "MCUV Filter Lens for GRIII GRIIIx" probably still available on the aliexpress or eBay. There is one from JJC, but that one is kind of thick and tend to gather more dust around it instead of keeping it away, so I would'n go with that one.
"While we are waiting for a complete weather sealed Ricoh GRIV..." Do you guys have some new info about the GRIV we don't know about or is this just some random comment ? I'm asking because I want to buy a Ricoh but I'm scared to have the GRIV being released just a few weeks after I buy a GRIII.
Unfortunately for all of us, me included, this is just a desire for the fully weather sealed GR. If they ever come up with such GR I'd be genuinely surprised. My general advice would be, buy a camera if it offers what you need right now. Otherwise, it's a race that you can't keep up with without spending money all the time. At the same time, I understand your concern, but looking at the Ricoh's last release being GRIII diary edition, I would say you're safe for another half a year, maybe a year or so before they release anything else.
@@Alex_SMK Thanks for the info. I already have a full-frame Sony (A7 IV) with good glass that I use for most of my work. However, for street photography, carrying something like that all the time is not ideal. The form factor of the Ricoh GRIII would allow me to have a camera in my pocket at all times, ready to shoot. I think I'm going to buy one for that very purpose.
Hey, let me tell you the easiest way to get the perfect size you need for that. Just get the regular office hole puncher, works like a charm. Let me know if it worked for you! Cheers!
I think 6mm hole punch will probably work too, I didn't measure the one I used tbh. If you feel cute, you can even buy them star or heart shaped or else as well, haha! Thanks for stopping by!
Yeah, of course. But you know what they say: “It ain't much, but it's honest work”. It's just my way of dealing with the common problem, doesn't mean it's right for everyone. Thanks for the comment!
I think there's somethign wrong with my Ricoh GR iiix. Maybe it is the dust IDK. It is taking terrible photos! Can someone please look at the sample photos in the short I posted. I need help!!! I spent so much money on this thing!
May never come. I hear there may be a bespoke B/W Ricoh though. I dunno, unless they make something radically better I'm ok with my GRiiix i think. I just love the colours. Great tips btw thanks!
well, I do, so I mentioned it. I think if it wasn't so expensive for what it is, more people would consider at least trying it. Screen off, snap focus on - it's a different experience.
You're really lucky, my man! I'm good after 3 years too, but from what I've heard and seen some people develop some issues within a few weeks after purchase, which is kinda crazy tbh
It's 3M adhesive sealing tape (the kind that leaves no residue). I don't have the exact marking of it, because it probably differs from country to country. But I'm sure you can find something similar at the hardware store near you. Hope it helps!
Now I want to know who those crazy ppl shooting video on the GRIII are!
😂😂😂
I'm one of those people !!
Howe the video quality of it?

Try some kind of 3M adhesive tape (just look for those that leave no residue). That's what I used. Enjoy your GR, man! Thanks for stopping by!
Gaff tape.
Electrical tape
Super glue them, unless you’re crazy using those😂

Yeah, you're right!
I'm happy with mine, too. As long as it works.
yep, still clean
Yup. That’s how most of the dust enters.
I never baby mine and I haven't had any sorts of dust issues, even when using it in the Caribbean
I went super anal trying to stop dust on my grii like this and it still happened. Just shoot it, have fun, clean it if you care, sell it if it upsets you.
Hahaha, yeah, GRII was an even bigger dust disaster, than GRIII for sure. And yes you are right, just shoot it and have fun or sell it!
I've knocked my GR about in the worst way for 6+ years and have no dust problem or at least I can't see any and don't shoot at F13+
When do you think the GR4 is gonna drop
Have my fingers crossed for this year, but don't take my word for it
Whats that lens filter though? Looks super slim and very effective keeping dust out

Every time you turn it on and the lens pops out it sucks in air all you are doing is redirecting the air flow from the mic holes to somewhere else.
Alright, is that a bad thing or a good thing?
Will weather sealing happen for real? 🤔
Fingers crossed! At least to some degree, or from the dust on the sensor - I'll take it!

@bonbon_ann2701 no prob. It's one of the reasons I bought mine too. So far, so good, as long as you can find it for a reasonable price.
Yeah, but when will the IV finally arrive?
More and more rumors and speculations say in 2025, but don't take my word for it, my guesses are as good as yours.
@ ok, I‘ll chill.
hey man, do you have the measurement for those dots you used on the mic? I bought half inch ones and they’re too big
Hey, let me tell you the easiest way to get the perfect size you need for that. Just get the regular office hole puncher, works like a charm. Let me know if it worked for you! Cheers!
Any image quality loss from that UV filter so far?
Nothing like that, as far as my experience goes. I changed a few of these during the past few years, still satisfied with the photos.
@@Alex_SMK Thank you for the reply, just bought 3 of them just in case!
No prob, thanks for stopping by!
Why buy one
what did you use to cover the mic holes and speaker grill?
I've used 3M adhesive tape (just look for those that leave no residue)
8mm circle stickers? I'm using Cricut paper and a hole punch, I might get a 6mm hole punch for $2 and see how the smaller circles look.
I think 6mm hole punch will probably work too, I didn't measure the one I used tbh. If you feel cute, you can even buy them star or heart shaped or else as well, haha! Thanks for stopping by!
You do know that dust get sucked in on the exposed barrel it self? That little UV stick on filter won’t do much.

Nah, my guy, there is nothing wrong with you GRIIIx
@@Alex_SMK are you sure? I thought the photos looked pretty bad. Can barely see anything
Ah the GR IV…I wonder if we’re having it this year or Ricoh is gonna keep on putting our more versions of the same GR III
"Fingers crossed"
May never come. I hear there may be a bespoke B/W Ricoh though. I dunno, unless they make something radically better I'm ok with my GRiiix i think. I just love the colours. Great tips btw thanks!
It's most likely coming since the GRIII is barely in stock anymore, a usual sign of a newer camera coming out.
More versions, as it turns out.
@@illyaswan Indeed. I just got a X100VI. Tired of waiting or paying full price for that old GR III
Mine I just keep inside a box,In that way no dust issues 😅
Hell yeah! I just keep mine in the store, better safe than sorry.
I like videos from GR
Whatever floats your boat, my friend
But how you cover it?
My solution: 3M self-adhesive tape, protective case
anyone here use a viewfinder on their GR? I don't
well, I do, so I mentioned it. I think if it wasn't so expensive for what it is, more people would consider at least trying it. Screen off, snap focus on - it's a different experience.
Had my GR3 for 2 years now, no accessories and no dust issues, straight rawdogging my pockets
You're really lucky, my man! I'm good after 3 years too, but from what I've heard and seen some people develop some issues within a few weeks after purchase, which is kinda crazy tbh

cool
I appreciate it bud
I never use video on my GRIII and dust getting into it is something I always worry about.
@@alfonsovegaiii yeah, you're not alone in this... hope they will improve the sealing in the future models
Would love one but would be terrible in our dusty hot country
Oh, which country is that?
@@Alex_SMK India
Hm, interesting. But hey, depends on how much you want/like it. I knew it's going to be like this before I bought it, but I went for it anyway.
