Yes, it’s something that was common in public school lunches in Kansas. Not really an area delicacy but a budgetary accommodation for schools to bribe kids to each cafeteria chili, they served it with cinnamon rolls. Also it’ more a cinnamon roll on the side situation - not on top but you do you! 😊 I’ve seen several travel vloggers talk about it so I’m curious how the word got out that it was super popular here since it’s certainly not a restaurant dish 🤔
Tenderloin is nothing more than a pork chop without bone an one you eat was beat to death with a mallet an flattened out. Cinnamon roll an chili are yall pregnant.
Me neither. 51 years in Kansas, and I have never seen it done that way. ...my youngest daughter and I just made a batch of pickled pig's feet, so I'm definitely open to trying just about anything. 😂
I love how you guys are going through the Midwest. Such a nice change up from the big cities. Obviously NYC and LA are a site to see but you're experiencing the heartland. It's refreshing.
I totally agree! I think most Americans do! I just started watching and they are the few who actually realize that other states exist! That in fact is why I subscribed!
I'm a lunchlady in the Kearney School District, in Kearney, Missouri. Not far from Kansas City. We do serve cinnamon rolls with chili for lunch. They are served up separately though, and the kids eat it how they want. My kitchen manager says she had it in Oklahoma also, where she grew up. Maybe it's a midwest thing! So glad you had fun here!! ❤
Thank you for your hard work and for serving up such delicious meals! It’s great to know that lunch ladies like you are keeping these fun traditions alive!
I grew up in central Kansas and for decades, whenever the school served chili for lunch, the dessert was always a cinnamon roll. It seemed to be a set pairing on the menu. And this combination became engrained for many students that grew into adults over the years and still wanted that pairing. To this day, when I finish a bowl of chili, a want a cinnamon roll to finish off the meal. I've heard of this pairing all across Kansas schools from other people, too. So, it seems to be a widespread Midwestern thing. And the cinnamon roll really does go well with the chili. It's just another bread item, instead of using crackers or cornbread to eat with the chili, you can use the cinnamon roll. It's almost as iconic as fried pickles. That's another midwestern staple.
What I love about you 2 is you're truly genuine people ❤️ . Giving your opinions as foodies in a loving way ❤ This is what I enjoy about your channel ❤❤❤ Love From Michigan and it's a beautiful evening.
Just a heads up for anyone who actually wants to drive to and sample these places themselves (and a point of local pride), you were in Kansas City, Missouri for the majority of your food tour. Woodyard Bar-B-Que is in Kansas City, Kansas and of course Bierock Co and Coffee House in Wichita, Kansas. Fun review!!! 😊
Thank you for saying something!! It was really bothering me that they kept saying Kansas over and over again when I’m literally recognizing their footage as places in Missouri! 😅
In Lincoln, Nebraska, chili is always served with cinnamon rolls in schools. They aren't dumped together, but always served together. Runza restaurants have the beef/cabbage/bread sandwiches, and sell chili and cinnamon rolls in the winter. Runza is a Nebraska restaurant.
I'm from Wyoming. I grew up in the 70'S. We had chili and cinnamon rolls(homemade) for school lunch every Wednesday. Bierocks aka Cabbage burgers here in Wyoming...my mother's family(German/Russian decent) recipe is over 100yrs old.
I grew up in Kansas. Bierocks are big here, too! I love them things. They are like a role stuffed with ground beef, onions, and cabbage and are amazing!
Chili and cinnamon rolls is more of a Kansas thing than Kansas City, MO thing. Growing up, school lunches had cinnamon rolls on chili days, so it is a classic combo for us. But we ate them separately, not all together. At most, we’d dip a piece of cinnamon roll in the chili. Bierocks are also a central Kansas thing. The Mennonites and Amish brought them from Ukraine/Russia. Runzas in Nebraska are shaped differently but are the same thing. Just from a diffrent part of Eastern Europe. They made these for school lunches, too.
When I saw the bierocks, they reminded me of something similar I used to get when I was stationed in Hawaii back in the mid '80s. A couple of the malls had a place in the food court called Patty's Chinese Kitchen, both of which had a lot of bakery items in addition to the usual (addictive) Chinese food. They had this thing called a manapua that looked like a bierock but was filled with finely chopped pork in a sweet, red, almost bbq kind of sauce. 40 years later I still salivate just thinking about them. Patty, if you're reading this, please move to Oklahoma.
I just made a similar comment. I grew up in South Central Kansas. Chili and cinnamon roll day and bierock day were by far, the most popular days for school lunch. I even remember parents actually visiting the school cafeteria on chili day to eat lunch.
@@ChristinaCassel There is a Runza in Lawrence, KS where I live. I rarely make my own bierocks anymore. But you could have saved a trip to Wichita, although the Wichita ones looked better and legit.
@@alixaugustine9599 Well hopefully. I have been to a Runza on two occasions where I ended up with a burger because they ran out of runzas. As a native Nebraskan, obviously I will forever love a good runza, but I can't let them live it down when they run out of their namesake.
Yes, it’s a Midwest old school thing the chili and cinnamon roll is a thing but normally I eat my chili first and then the cinnamon roll. I normally don’t combine them even though I have tried it mixed. The combination was more popular in the 50’s-70’s than nowadays

As a native Kansan I've eaten Chili and Cinnamon rolls my entire life. It's a shame more restaurants don't sell the combo. Try and make your back to KC this fall for the American Royal World Series of Barbeque.
I grew up in South Central Kansas, chili and cinnamon roll day at school was the one day that 99% of the kids actually ate the school lunch. Even the picky kids that usually brought their own lunches to school. Bierock day was also really popular.
The combination of chili and cinnamon roll started in the 1960s thanks to the items showing up together in school lunches across the nation. It is a dish still enjoyed by many people all over the country, although it's most popular in the midwest.
Omg!!! When I was in high school, in Montana of all places, we would have chili served with a cinnamon roll and a slice of cheese on the side. Never made sense until today!!!!! Thanks
In St. Louis, MO I owned a Donut Shop. Next door was a restaurant. Every day, people would come in and buy cinnamon rolls before going into the restaurant for chili. After a while, the restaurant had a standing order for a daily supply of cinnamon rolls to eat with their chili. So yes, it's definitely a thing.
I grew up in a small town in Western Kansas named Goodland in the 80's. I can tell you that Chili and Cinnamon rolls was the absolute greatest day of school lunch possible. Top it off with a chocolate milk and you had magic.
It's amazing how food can bring back such fond memories! Chili and cinnamon rolls really do sound like a perfect combo for school lunches. The chocolate milk is a great addition!!
The Woodyard is one of those single BBQ shacks I talked about in a comment on your earlier KCBBQ installment. It began as people just supplying the wood for the other local BBQ places. They did a little cooking on their own and soon folks wanted to buy their Q. So, they converted the house into a restaurant and set up tables outside. Eventually they took over the neighbor's house for more indoor dining. One of the best local places!
I worked at Woodyard years ago... You wouldn't say they are 1 of the best local places if you had ever seen how the food was prepared and stored. At least when I worked there. Yes If you got fresh food it was fine and good but if it wasn't fresh, you would sh!t yourself before you even got home. The owner is a tool and he couldn't care less about his employees or customers.
Bierocks are famous in Omaha, NE. I love them. They are called Runzas there. There is also major restaurant chain that base their Runzas on this recipe.
Corner Cafe is delicious, and their cinnamon rolls are famous in KC. Woodyard is my favorite BBQ joint. I really am glad that you highlighted just how affordable things are in KC. Safe travels!
Thankyou for visiting Kansas City and Wichita Ks - Savory of the Chili mixed with the sweetness of the Cinnamon Roll, sounds weird but lots of foods in the USA are based on that and they can work. Absolutely love Bierocks with pepper added to the filling, best way !
I grew up in Kansas and I have never put chilli on the cinnamon roll before. In school, it was common to have chilli and a cinnamon roll served together (on the same plate/tray). A classic combo for school lunch. The roll was the dessert and the chilli did have beans in it. It was so common that if I have chilli I always want a cinnamon roll for dessert. There is a chain restaurant for bierocks called "Runza" that started in Nebraska that is good as well. There are a couple here in Kansas. But the Wichita restaurant you went to is excellent. I would say that it is a version of Pastys or you have dumplings that are an Asian version. It just seems to be an early version of portable, cheap, good food for the daily laborer that you find in every culture.
So funny! I was going to comment that my favorite ice cream is always the one in my mouth. :) Folks, I'm a 60 year old Kansan, I love chili and I love cinnamon rolls... I have eaten tons of both. I've NEVER heard of trying them together like that. I think I'm going to try it, but will put 4 cinnamon rolls in a cake pan, drown them with my homemade chili, top it all with shredded cheese, and bake it in the oven for 15-20 minutes. That should allow the chili to be absorbed into the rolls. I've put tuna in Jell-O before, just out of curiosity, so this ought to be a whole lot better. Terrific idea for a reaction, folks! Loved it!
Although im only 16 i do remember having chili and cinnamon rolls for school lunch in both Kansas City Kansas and Missouri although they weren’t put on top of each other, they still serve it too
I grew up in a small town about 30 minutes southwest of KC. When I was in school, in the 90's, some days we would be served a nice bowl of chili and a cinnamon roll. I've never known chili to be served any other way, and I always need a cinnamon roll when I eat chili! It really is the best thing. I'm glad you're having a great time here in our little neck of the woods! That wind is so much fun isn't it!
I moved to Kansas twenty years ago. Cinnamon rolls and chili are definitely eaten together here. I've never know anyone to put chili on top of the cinnamon roll though.
Stoked you came to the fly over states. So much to do in this area. I am tired of Texas texas Texas. Burnt ends and the popular way of cooking it was found in Kansas City. Have fun guys
Thanks for the warm welcome! The flyover states have so much to offer, and I can’t wait to explore all the hidden gems here! We have another video uploading today from Oklahoma! let us know what you think?
Born and raised Kansan and yes Chili and Cinnamon Rolls are a common dish in school and at home growing up but I never poured chili on my cinnamon roll. I can tell you growing up on a cold day, I loved seeing that we were having chili and cinnamon rolls. Bierocks are also a very popular dish in Kansas as well as Nebraska due to many German immigrants settling in Kansas and Nebraska in the 1800's.
If you're ever around a Runza stop in and try one! They're delicious! They're similar to the Bier rocks, but fuller and in more like a biscuit. I started making them at home with biscuits, hamburger with onion, saur kraut and cheese. Yum!!
Kansas native here, and yes they did actually serve cinnamon rolls with chili in our schools. I still love the combination to this day. I buy an order of cinnamon rolls from CiCis pizza every time I make homemade chili. I dip the rolls as I eat the chili.
Hello! I live in KC, but chili and cinnamon rolls is new to me. BUT, that Woodyard BBQ chili is delicious!! Hope you enjoyed the Midwest. Love your channel!!
Love your stuff. I'm from Nebraska, We had chili made with ground beef and cinnamon rolls at school. Where the internet gets it wrong, the chili was never served over the cinnamon roll. It was just a pleasant side to the ground beef chili.
"We were in KC and decided to drive 2.5 hrs to Wichita so we could get some kolaches." Sounds like a fun day running everywhere to try everything on the cheap. Thanks for taking us along.
Nicola, your curls are gorgeous, wind swept, and all! Do you have a perm, or is it all natural? I'm so jelly! I have a natural soft wave, but it's so frizzy! This looked so tasty and like a lot of fun! ❤
Cinnamon roll and chili is an Iowa thing, not a Kansas thing, and you were in Missouri. That being said, it was a favorite school lunch of mine in southern Missouri. But they weren't mixed, but rather, as a complete meal it was chili, with cheese, and a cinnamon roll for dessert with chocolate milk. I know of one restaurant (food truck) here in Springfield MO that serves it.
Omg! Yes yes yes!!! I lived in Kansas City, KS and I can confirm, when I went to school, 30 years ago, we did eat cinnamon rolls with chili, and they were one of my favorite dishes to eat in school. Yummy! Definitely a Mid-west staple in the lunchroom.
Pasties are a thing in Michigan and Northern Ohio. A lot of miners from Cornwall emigrated there. You would probably not find them on a menu though. They are made by home cooks.
Cinnamon Rolls and Chili is a Midwest thing. I grew up on it in Nebraska. Yes in school. It the Fall/Winter season the fast food restaurant Runza has it on the menu. The Bierock is also similar to a Runza which the restaurant is named after.
Yes. We grew up with chili and cinnamon rolls as a school lunch in Iowa. Grew up in western Iowa in the Tri- city area where Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska all meet. I’m 55 but my children had this in school too. You either dip the roll in the chili or you took a bite of one then a bite of the other. We never dumped the chili over the roll. It’s a Midwest thing.
Chili and cinnamon rolls are awesome! Often used as a fund raiser event for high school sports boosters! The chili is eaten first and then the cinnamon roll. Spicy followed by sweet. Kansan girl for over 64 years. Bierocks or runza’s are also Awesome!
I've lived in Kansas all my life, and this is something that I had never hear of till my family moved to Northwestern Kansas from Southeastern Kansas. Usually the school kitchen served them separately to allow students to either put it in their chili or just rip and dip.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always interesting to hear how food traditions vary across different parts of the USA . Thanks for watching
I went to Shawnee Mission schools and we would always get a cinnamon roll on chilli lunch days and yes we 1000% would eat them together. It is delicious and my favorite meal at school.
I live in Manhattan Kansas. And yes this is a very real thing. Not in restaurants or businesses but in homes and schools! I've showed this to people all over the country and I've never had anybody not like it.
I went to school 50 minutes east of Kansas City and we had chili and cinnamon rolls for school lunch. The chili was separate but some people did dip the cinnamon roll into the chili sauce
I am 66 and it was a regular feature "way back then" on school lunch menus in my kansas hometown. The chili, of course, did not go on top of the roll. It was served along side it. Maybe also with carrot and celery sticks. It was good and is a fond memory of those days.
I am born and raised in Kansas City. We were served chili and cinnamon rolls in school, and my mom would also make it as a comfort food. You can eat it how you like, but most people rip and dip, rather than pour it on top.
The cheese slipper is an internet thing. Almost no one here has ever heard of this. I've only heard of it because another channel did this as well and they got one. The cinnamon roll and chili thing is absolutely a thing. It was a school lunch thing. It's odd but works.
I have eaten cinnamon rolls and chili in Nebraska and I liked it. Many times it was for events or at mom and pop places. They have even served it at my nephews school cafeteria.
Easily find Cinnamon Roll and Chili in a few other Great Plains states too! Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa...I know those for sure! It is not every restaurant, but its not uncommon! The Bierock is just known to my American (German Heritage) Family as a cabbage/kraut pocket! Same ingredients, spices basically. The sweetness comes from the dough used to form the pocket! Just a different name cause we came to America 4 Generations ago! I also grew up eating a hell of a lot of them also! This Episode brings back memories, thanks! Welcome to the Great Plains!😁
I am from the KC area and I've never heard of the cheese slipper. I love pork tenderloin, it's so delicious, and always served in such a huge size, no matter where you get it. When I was in school, we did always have cinnamon rolls served with our chili, although I never ate the chili on the cinnamon roll. The chili cinnamon roll thing is a Midwest thing, it's not just Kansas. My husband is from the Missouri side of KC, and he had never heard of chili with cinnamon rolls.
Slice that slipper open, & fill it with a sweet pickle & celery chicken salad!!! YUM! I Do that with cheese rolls from bakery and chicken salad from the deli for lunch sometimes..
I've lived in Kansas City my entire life and my family has always eaten chili and cinnamon rolls. My wife and I went to different schools and we both had it in school.
I grew up and still live in Kansas and I assure you cinnamon rolls and chilli ARE a thing! We even had them served as school lunch in elementary school!
Thank you for sharing that! Sounds like Nebraska should be on our list of places to visit! It's always great to hear about the local favorites that make Nebraska special.
When I was in grade school, back in the 60's, we had chili and cinnamon rolls every Thursday during the school years. It was wonderful. We never poured our chili over the roll though...that's a new one on me. LOL
It's a local delicacy in south central kansas. We can all thank whoever the menu creator was for all USDs in kansas in the 80s for bringing us this combination in school. The best you can get is from Carriage Crossing in Yoder Kansas. While you are there try the roast beef.
Born and raised In Hutchinson Kansas and we had this all the time in grade school in the 70s (I’m a bit older lol). Loved it. Still do but it was always just a pairing for me. I’ve never put the chili on it but hey I’d try it. It was eat chili and finish it off with the roll
It's great to hear that you have such fond memories of the dish! It's always interesting how food brings back those nostalgic moments from our childhood.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s always fun to hear about the creative ways people enjoy their food. Keep those delicious traditions alive! Thanks for watching
I make Bierocks about once a month, they are so good and keep well in the fridge for a few days, just warm in the microwave. You can also make them in advance, freeze before the second rise then later when you'd like to make then for dinner, just place frozen rolls on greased baking sheet, cover with cling wrap and let thaw and rise til doubled and bake.
When I was in school we would get a bowl of chili and a cinnamon roll separate, carrots and celery, crackers and usually pears or peaches. We never dumped the chili on the cinnamon rolls but eating them in tandem back-and-forth is quite good. That’s middle to late 80s.
I'm from the outskirts of Cincinnati, OH. Our chili looks very different from the Kansas chili there. When I was a kid in elementary school they would serve chili with peanut butter sandwiches and to this day I still love dunking peanut butter sandwiches into chili.
It's fascinating how regional variations can shape our food experiences! That combination of chili and peanut butter sandwiches sounds unique-thanks for sharing your memories!
Grew up eating chili with cinnamon rolls in Nebraska, and still eat it that way. We always dipped the roll into the chili instead of pouring it over. If you ever get to Nebraska, a fast food restaurant to check out that sells chili and cinnamon rolls, is Runza. Runza also sells Runza sandwiches made with cabbage that you should check out to.
Amazing to see yall in my area! If you really want to stir up the populace ask people to debate which side of the city has better bbq, Missouri or Kansas?
I have lived in Kansas for 13 years now and never heard of that chili cinnamon roll combo. But I do love mixing sweet and spicy together so will have to try it! I also feel led to mention how the both of you with your beautiful English accent could make cheese on a flip flop (yeah I borrowed that from Guy Fieri 😂) sound absolutely delectable! 👍🏻
Liberty Missouri school district definitely had cinnamon roll and chili day almost every week. Served separately but i would normally take a bite of each separately but sometimes mix them.
We do get chili and cinnamon rolls for our schools lunches. But idk about pouring it on top of the roll. Ig I will have to try it next time. If you’re still in town you need to go to gus’s fried chicken in kc.
Have you ever tried Chili and Cinnamon rolls together? Is it a thing or was Google lying to us?? We really enjoyed our time in Kansas!😊

Wow!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your generosity.. You have made our day!
I work in downtown Kansas City. On my way I pass by a famous burger place. Town Topic Hamburgers. Next time you visit. It has been here for years.
Grew up eating cinnamon rolls and chili in school in the southwest corner of the state of Kansas. I still love it and make it every now and then!
Yeh! The internet works … that’s for watching
Loved it!
Definitely a think in Kansas. We don't usually dump the chili on the role, but they are served together like a burger and fries for example.
It's interesting how regional differences shape our food traditions! Thanks for sharing your perspective on chili and cinnamon rolls in Kansas!
Although im only 16 i do remember having chili and cinnamon rolls for school lunch in both Kansas City Kansas and Missouri although they weren’t put on top of each other, they still serve it too
Bingo!
Love to see you folks were all over the city. Ibis makes the best bread and I’m impressed you made it to the River market without breaking into it!
What gorgeous weather you got during your visit!
I moved to Kansas twenty years ago. Cinnamon rolls and chili are definitely eaten together here. I've never know anyone to put chili on top of the cinnamon roll though.
Thank you for sharing your experience! Thanks for watching
I grew up in KS. You do not combine the chili and cinnamon roll. It’s a PAIRING! OMG! I’m absolutely dying!
That cheesy bread looked awesome.
Yum!!
There used to be one within a 5 minute drive from Woodyard, but closed several years ago. I think it was the last one in Kansas?
Kansas native here, and yes they did actually serve cinnamon rolls with chili in our schools. I still love the combination to this day. I buy an order of cinnamon rolls from CiCis pizza every time I make homemade chili. I dip the rolls as I eat the chili.
It's awesome to hear that you're keeping the tradition alive! Cinnamon rolls and chili really are a unique combination. Thanks for watching
Hello! I live in KC, but chili and cinnamon rolls is
new to me.
Thanks for the information ! That’s great to hear!
I eat chili almost every day but I've never heard of chili and cinnamon roll together. That seems like a crime against humanity.
🎸Breakin' the law, breakin' the law!😋 Or at the very least, a crime against tastebuds, right?
Try it! You might change your mind!
Living on Chili everyday is a crime against humanity😊
Don't pour the chili over the top. Serve the roll like you would cornbread. The cinnamon compliments the spices in the chili very nicely.
I had never tried it before either, but an old girlfriend of mine made it and I actually liked it. You eat it as a side like a biscuit.
Thanks for coming to Kansas! You both are great! Come back soon!
Been from Nebraska we had that for school lunch from since I can remember
"We were in KC and decided to drive 2.5 hrs to Wichita so we could get some kolaches."
Sounds like a fun day running everywhere to try everything on the cheap. Thanks for taking us along.
Nicola, your curls are gorgeous, wind swept, and all! Do you have a perm, or is it all natural? I'm so jelly! I have a natural soft wave, but it's so frizzy! This looked so tasty and like a lot of fun! ❤
The Tenderloin at Christine's Firehouse is one of my favorites. Tenderloin done right. Glad you were able to find some hidden local gems.
Grew up in Northwest Iowa with Chili and Cinnamon Rolls! LOVE IT! Outside ring of the roll dipped in the chili is the way to go. GREAT VIDEO!
It's awesome to hear that you love chili and cinnamon rolls too! They really are a classic combo Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I really like that you're going to local owned establishments rather than chains. So wonderful.
Thank you for noticing! we are trying our best to try more local places, if there is the option
I have never heard of any of those foods but they all looked fantastic! Keep those videos coming
Oh wow! Sounds like a great school lunch day!🤗
Pasties are a thing in Michigan and Northern Ohio.
In the60s-70s the other school lunch fave was pizza, with chocolate cake, and corn. The cinnamon rolls and chili was wonderful too. Kansas native here
Those school lunches were truly something special! It’s amazing how they hold such nostalgic memories for so many of us.
I used to think that cinnamon rolls & chili was too strange to eat but then I tried it. Both Nebraska and Iowa are famous for this combination.
Thanks for sharing! We would love to visit Iowa and Dakota in the future.
Chili and cinnamon rolls are awesome! Often used as a fund raiser event for high school sports boosters!
The chili is eaten first and then the cinnamon roll. Spicy followed by sweet. Kansan girl for over 64 years.
Bierocks or runza’s are also
Awesome!
Cinnamon rolls and chili and deep dish bread pizza were both grade school lunch staples in Kansas.
I live in Manhattan Kansas. And yes this is a very real thing. Not in restaurants or businesses but in homes and schools! I've showed this to people all over the country and I've never had anybody not like it.
Thank you for sharing your experience! Thanks for watching, we had a great time trying it.
We go to Chrstines almost weekly for lunch, awesome to see you two enjoying the food here. It's wildly underrated how good KC food is
I went to school 50 minutes east of Kansas City and we had chili and cinnamon rolls for school lunch. The chili was separate but some people did dip the cinnamon roll into the chili sauce
It's amazing how school lunches can bring back such nostalgic memories! Chili and cinnamon rolls definitely make for a unique combo.
I am 66 and it was a regular feature "way back then" on school lunch menus in my kansas hometown. The chili, of course, did not go on top of the roll. It was served along side it. Maybe also with carrot and celery sticks. It was good and is a fond memory of those days.
Thank you for sharing your find memories! Food certainly has a way of making you remember special occasions. Thanks for watching
Need to try Runzas in Nebraska they are basically beirocks
I'm from NW Iowa and we were served the Cinnamon roll and Chilli growing up. It's so good.
It's amazing how food can bring back such fond memories! Cinnamon rolls and chili really are a unique combo that many people might not understand.
I am born and raised in Kansas City. We were served chili and cinnamon rolls in school, and my mom would also make it as a comfort food. You can eat it how you like, but most people rip and dip, rather than pour it on top.
Thank you for sharing the information! Chili and cinnamon rolls truly are a unique combination that must bring back so many memories.
Hello Mates I live in Kansas and it is a staple mostly during the winter season to eat Chili and Rolls !! Enjoy 😉
Thanks for sharing your Kansas winter staple! Chili and rolls are the perfect cozy meal to warm up those chilly days.
I went to school in Topeka Kansas and yes they served chili at lunch with one of the sides being cinnamon roll. It was yummy
Yay! That’s great to hear! It was actually very nice !
I grew up in Kansas and this was served at school at least twice per month! I still serve cinnamon rolls with chili occasionally!
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always fun to hear how food connects us to our roots and brings back fond memories from school days.
Traditional beirocks are filled with ground beef, onions and cabbage or sourkraut
I've lived in Kansas City my entire life and my family has always eaten chili and cinnamon rolls. My wife and I went to different schools and we both had it in school.
So the internet was telling us the truth. 😀
I grew up and still live in Kansas and I assure you cinnamon rolls and chilli ARE a thing! We even had them served as school lunch in elementary school!
Bierock is popular in Nebraska. There's a fast food chain called Runza that's all over Nebraska
LOL
Thanks for sharing!!
It's a local delicacy in south central kansas. We can all thank whoever the menu creator was for all USDs in kansas in the 80s for bringing us this combination in school.
The best you can get is from Carriage Crossing in Yoder Kansas. While you are there try the roast beef.
Thanks for sharing and the suggestions! next time we will give it a try.
Love the video guys, just your reactions to all the different foods.
beautiful dynamic between you two and the editing
Thanks so much! We had fun making it, You comment has really made us smile. Thank you
@@thebritstry yall made me smile :) no worries
Southwest MO here, love ripping pieces of my cinnamon roll and dipping it into chili like bread in soup. Did it all through school too
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks for sharing the recipe ! we loved them. Thanks for watching
One of my most well loved snacks I bring to family gatherings is my chili stuffed cinnamon rolls.
When I was in school we would get a bowl of chili and a cinnamon roll separate, carrots and celery, crackers and usually pears or peaches. We never dumped the chili on the cinnamon rolls but eating them in tandem back-and-forth is quite good. That’s middle to late 80s.
Thank you for sharing your school lunch experience! It's always fun to hear how food brings back such fond memories.
I was raised in Colorado in a pretty heavy German area in the 50's where the Bierocks were locally called Krautburgers and was a weekly meal
Thanks for watching
Grew up eating chili with cinnamon rolls in Nebraska, and still eat it that way. We always dipped the roll into the chili instead of pouring it over. If you ever get to Nebraska, a fast food restaurant to check out that sells chili and cinnamon rolls, is Runza. Runza also sells Runza sandwiches made with cabbage that you should check out to.
Thank you for sharing your experience! we’ll definitely make a note to check out Runza when we get to organize a trip to Nebraska!
Chili and a cinnamon roll is popular throughout the Midwest. It’s not just a Kansas thing. We had it in schools even as a staple
Amazing to see yall in my area! If you really want to stir up the populace ask people to debate which side of the city has better bbq, Missouri or Kansas?
Thanks for watching! we are not brave enough to get in the middle of that debate!😀
Thanks for taking the time to come visit and showcase a lesser known, and under appreciated part of the US!
- Kyler in Kansas
Thank you, Kyler! It was a pleasure to explore and share the hidden gems of Kansas with everyone! We loved it and will be back.
Liberty Missouri school district definitely had cinnamon roll and chili day almost every week. Served separately but i would normally take a bite of each separately but sometimes mix them.
Thanks for sharing your memories! It’s always fun to hear how food brings back such vivid experiences from school days.
The original bierocks is so freaking good!! I add cheese(mozzarella or provolone)to my hamburger & cabbage
We do get chili and cinnamon rolls for our schools lunches. But idk about pouring it on top of the roll. Ig I will have to try it next time. If you’re still in town you need to go to gus’s fried chicken in kc.
