Italian from Italy here and couple of things:
    - One classic Margherita pizza is around 7/8€ in the north and 4/5€ in the south...if you see a price higher than that for a normal Margherita you know that everithing will be overpriced (usually in touristic spots).
    - The guide talked about the origins of it in a very generic way and told only the recipe for the base so, not that informative in my opinion.
    - Trancio is a type of pizza but not a classic one so you can put whatever the hell you want on it 😂
    - The truffle pizza is another type of pizza called Pizza Gourmet and its a completely different dish that is called like that just cause it resemble a pizza, still really good but yeah, not a "real" pizza.

Rome has his own "pizza culture" with "pizza al taglio" and a "skinnier pizza" (in Italian, cause i don't know how to describe it: la pizza Romana è più sottile e bassa) and i like Roman style, but Naples is simply the home of Pizza and you have to go there because you will be surprised by the Naples pizza !!

    *NO !!!* 😭 💔
I'm sorry, Sonny, but the guide you chose should have stayed a teacher instead of becoming a food guide.
There's always a lot of debate about what makes the best pizza, from styles to toppings, but no one with a passion for Italian cuisine would think the places you visited are a good representation of Italian food.
*The first place:* The pizza was burned, and if you see the pizzaiolo using a rolling pin to flatten the dough, it's best to leave immediately.
*The second place:* It seemed like a hipster joint trying to make a name with unusual toppings.
*The third place:* It looked like it had no tomato sauce, making it dry and unappealing. No amount of truffle, gold leaf, or caviar can fix that.
In Italy, pizza and espresso are incredibly affordable, even in popular, well-established restaurants. Just head to Naples and try a renowned spot like Gino e Toto Sorbillo, or any of the other famous pizzerias-they're all fantastic!

Yeah screw that lady. She seemed sweet otherwise, but shame on her for trying to shame we that like it. Have people never heard of sweet and savory? It's a food theme in MANY cuisines, especially Asian cuisines. I think it gets a bad rep because people execute it incorrectly. It's better to use fresh pineapple; the canned pineapple is way too concentrated with the sugary syrup.

Said that, it is true that in Italy we do not use pineapple on pizza and it is considered something savage to do 😂😂😂 but to be honest pizzas with figs or pears are considered a delicatessen! So maybe like you said, the problem is the canned pineapple, which it really is too sugary! Plus please do not forget that, when talking about food, 90% of Italians will judge non Italian food bad even if they never tasted. Yes except me, they are narrow minded like that :)

My theory is that with a reduced crust length right away, there is more pizza surface area to enjoy, and you won't have to fight the crust for the last few good bites.
