  • In this episode Marty buys some 2nd hand wheels off the internet and soon realises they are rubbish. With the help of the guys at Barrel Bros we restore the wheels to their former glory ready to be bolted onto the mad Mira.

    Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics. We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. Especially polishers, they are the worst. Talk to a qualified mechanic if you are in any doubt.

    To everyone who doesn't wear a face shield during grinder/buffer operations:
    That bite at 21:36 ? Yeah, no face shield on, and he would have lost about four or five teeth, and likely stitches at the minimum, if not a fractured jaw. Marty was lucky there, because he had his proper PPE. That 12 dollar plastic sheet saved him what would have been around a thousand in the States.

      And Marty is wearing a watch which could get caught in a bunch of places in the machinery. I love these guys, but too much stuff in this video is just bloody irresponsible. Sends the wrong message.

    @20:00 Marty - lose the fabric gloves around extremely powerful, high speed spinning machinery, that's a MAJOR safety no no. I know they're part of the brand, but the thin latex/neoprene gloves the shop guy was wearing will tear right off your hand, but the fabric ones will suck your arm(and the rest of your body) in should that lathe grab it.
    But, that out of the way, AWESOME piece! Great insight into a local business of CRAFTSMEN.

    • @ThaMythbuster
      @ThaMythbuster 6 лет назад

      Yup. Granted I did paint mine with a rattlecan, but still. Only a tiny chip on the paint from the machine when I got new tires for the second time. Damn shame of you ask me since they're a rare version of sort-of common wheels, (OEM E36 M3 double-spokes, staggered, with "BMW MOTORSPORT" stamping, only available in that exact config in 1994-1995, later ones have no stamping) but my paintjob wasn't 100% anyway.

    • @El_Chompo
      @El_Chompo 6 лет назад

      Mounting tires is the one time that you lose control over your car, almost everything else can be done yourself. I've watched videos and it *is* possible to mount tires yourself without a machine, and even balance them to some extent. It's extremely difficult though, you need large levers and a lot of weight and strength. It's just like how you do a bike tire but so much harder. And on big lo pro wheels I don't even know if it's possible by hand with levers.

    • @janvio
      @janvio 6 лет назад +13

      "Pépite d'or" is the word for gold nuggets. Or for other small bits of things, like "pépites de chocolat" for "chocolate chips". For chicken nuggets we say "Nuggets de poulet".
      For cars which doesn't work properly we have some funky words like "chignole", "bouzin", "charette" but "merguez" is probably the most appropriate ;)

      To buy a set identical to that from Barrel Bros is ~$2000AUD give or take a few hundred to give you an idea. Refurbished but not widened are significantly cheaper than that. Check out their FB page where they post their stock and prices.

      Dethecus0 2k seems a decent deal to create your ideal wheel. I don't think I'd spend 2k on wheels for the mira, but non the less I thought they would be about twice that.

    makes you think why some rims are more expensive then others, its because people like these guys at Barrel Bros customizes them to fit perfectly, even better from factory probably. and that is why ill probably never afford them. can always dream though! xD

    • @El_Chompo
      @El_Chompo 6 лет назад

      Yes but you *can* afford a bench grinder with a polishing wheel, and it's the long tedious hours of polishing that is the most expensive part so you can do that yourself and save a ton of money. Makes me want to get one now. I should have got that one in the classifieds a few weeks back for cheap but I didn't have a need at the time.
