Happy Easter to you too, I wanted to tell you that the lessons you share are essential and even having a few common items and know how will save your and others lives in a emergency situation. Keep up on the good work.
SO EXCITED FOR TODAY"S VIDEO!!!!!! Thanks for posting!!!! - Great video going back to the basics!!! ....OUTSTANDING AF!!! I find that every video, whether it's 3min or it's 30min, is the perfect video length to learn something from. Thanks for your tireless commitment to this channel with all the ups n downs and to sharing all your skills! You are very inspiring for me to get outside as much as I can, despite the weather!
Outstanding AF brother, I appreciate this video because I am using your videos as a way to teach others how to survive and you conduct yourself as we all should.
Dude thank you for saying “bring what the hell you want” instead of “whatever works for you” as a default. The fact that there’s no perfect way to do this is part of the fun. The armchair warriors go nuts over what’s “right n wrong”
Oh so true. And as an older guy who's done a bit of actual primitive camping or bushcrafing way before it was generally called the later I agree. I was never a boy scout, take that either way. But I grew up out in the country having to make do. So yeah the armchair/ keyboard types annoy me a bit.
Good to see someone who actually knows how to survive and what preparations are needed to do just that instead of those wannabee armchair preppers storing lots of crap in their basement. I know who I'd choose if the SHTF.
Matie- love this. I was born in London 1966. Moved to Shropshire. aged 6. It was Awesome- totally rural - the hanging tree etc . I learned cooking , hunting , wildlife from people who lived in a " squatter cottage " in the woods. They did the farm work. Going to a well , getting the water getting kindling, wood , making a fire and making tea in that house. AWESOME - sadly everything is gone and built on now A Squatters cottage is now in Blists Hill museum in Telford , Shropshire. Uk . I can honestly say at grand old age of 56 , I go with kids, nephews, neices etc. I cry when I go in and come out of that place. Lovely memories and total respect that they were living like that in UK in the 1970 and 1980s We have lost so much Respect Matie
Thanks to the Corporal, I’ve been practicing my knots on a bit of paracord at work and now I can identify the knots in this video. Also, for a channel branded “Corporal’s Corner”, I really appreciate the level headed view of military life, civilian life, and the discernment of what each brings to the woodsman’s lifestyle. Corporal, never apologize for 30 minutes of FREE high quality, grade A USDA Prime know-how and ingenuity.
Good balance between a discussion about gear and skills and the practical application of them in the field. Thank you for the detailed explanation about basic gear and the thought behind why to carry it.
Happy Easter, Shawn. Don't apologize for the length of your video. I for one would be happy if they were an hour and 34 minutes. You don't have to apologize for saving people's lives. God bless you and God bless America!! ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love what LEDs have done for flashlights. The single AA flashlight I carry now puts out more light than the old 4D cell Mag Light I used to carry when doing security. The headlights are just fantastic, definitely a must have for all sorts of things.👍
Man , I really like the new format / style of the Solo Overnighters . Lots of new ways of thinking about bushcraft , recreational camping , and emergency survival siruations . Please make more like this
My daughter is just now beginning to show some real interest in survival, bush craft, and camping and hunting. For so long, she didn't want anything to with going into the woods with myself and her big brother. She is 18 now, I don't know what the spark was that got her interested, I'm just glad that she has caught the "I love being I the woods bug" after trying to get her outdoors with us for years. I am excited to share this and all of your other videos with her. I hope that her wanting to learn about this lifestyle will bring us closer. Thanks for the great content, and keep up the great work.
It's not too long. And I appreciate this updated version of the basic load out, even if you've covered it all before. Some of this has been buried in your past videos. Plus you've gotten better in your presentation and communication. Keep up the good work.
Best video yet has to be said. What YOU NEED. Not what you want, think you need. Just what you need. And most people, no matter how out of shape, can carry ALL of this.
You keep doing you Sir. I have a lot of respect for someone that will keep going against all algorithms. I absolutely love your content and have learned a ton!
Hey Corporal, I've been watching your videos since 2019 and I don't give a shit how long they are I'm gonna watch them till the end , Period!!! So are your loyal followers , so don't sweat it!! Have a good week ahead and,,,,,,,Stay Safe Everyone
On one of your videos I was watching on my tv/roku. You were apologizing for self promoting. If this is your job/livelihood. Don't apologize . We are watching to learn and enjoy. Great job bro! Thank for your hard work outstanding.
Great video! I absolutely agree gear drop without showing the usage is pointless. This video is well worth watching until the end! Now its up to us veiwers to go out and use what you're teaching. Thanks, and Happy Easter!
I like the longer videos and showing all the skills. I’ve been tying my bowlines like you do now and I still need to master the truckers hitch. Really appreciate the skills you showcase and if you wanted to put out hour long hike and bushcraft video adventures I would totally watch it.
Excellent class, thank you! No wasted movements, no unnecessary gear, just great training. This is another example of why I recommend your channel first whenever someone asks for my favorite resources.
Happy Easter. I like to carry a pair of light leather gloves with my kit. It helps with preventing punctures, scrapes and cuts while performing various bushcraft jobs. O the wait side, a few paper coffee filters for straing water, coffee..backup combustible material, put tem in a zip lock style bag, put a couple more zip locks in if you want. Minimal weight and storage space in your pack and lots of redundant uses for the bags.
Outstanding summary video. Worth it just for the reminder that your no-gas pocket lighter does exactly the same job as a flint and steel, and a heck of a lot cheaper. Plenty of info to use here, thank you.
As a matter of preference and convenience, I always have a poncho & a poncho liner. I have found that with those 2 items, you can survive most weather situations, combined with other things [combustion, etc.]. Somewhat warm and somewhat dry is a much better scenario. Had to get a new sheath for my Kabar and the loop is smaller. Small tube of suoperglue goes a long way for emergency 1st aid. I prefer having dehydrated beef jerky and/or dehydrated fruits on hand. I can grab a gallon bag of it and go, almost no weight, eat on the move and sustain me in the short run.
Absolutely love this video! Showing how to use these items and why is brilliant ! I love that you nail the basics without being locked into total bushcraft methods. An example the bic lighter. You’re the guy I’d want to have with me if I got lost in the wilderness that is for sure! Amazing video.❤
Happy Easter! I so look forward to your videos every week and have learned so much from you. You bring humor to your teaching and I like that as well. I hope you continue making and sharing your videos with us. It’s important information that every 73 y/o, 4’11” retired woman should know to protect herself and her family. Why? Because I refuse to be a victim. I worked for 49 years, raised 3 fine sons, and now it’s my turn to get out and enjoy MY time in the woods. Thanks for all you do!
I really enjoyed the video. I'm a gear head anyway. You had a good presentation on the equipment and why. People that don't know or just learning should find this very useful. Semper Fi 🇺🇸❤️ Charles
That was a great video Shawn. That same minimalist kit in the back seat of your truck means the difference between being cold & hungry when an unexpected breakdown happens in the middle of nowhere. Nice job!
I absolutely love the format to this video and the teaching aspect was great then taking that stuff and use it in the correct application... lived it brother would prefer this everytime actually keep up the great work sir
Great video. These are my favorite type of videos, gear dump with explanations and actual field use. You do a great job of explaining why you carry what you carry. Keep up the good work.
Excellent basic gear class! Taking your time to explain each item, and show its use was a huge plus in getting an understanding of WHY each item is important and how it was chosen. Outstanding AF Shawn, well done!
Thank you, I searched and found a first gen Molle ruck and assault pack loaded it up. Did not take long to realize at 76 years of age We were not going to get far. You just led me back to reality. Thank you love the old stuff any way
I don't care if your videos are 19 minutes or 45 . I enjoy watching and always walk away with something . Thank you for making time to share your thoughts and knowledge with everyone . Don't think it's not appreciated .
One of the hardest working RUclipsr's I've seen on this platform. I really enjoy your vids and the value I get from them. Thank you......keep em coming.
Brother we want you to make videos that are at least 1 to 4 hours long. Ok we can't get to much or enough of your life saving information. God bless you sir. Please keep up the great work.
I think this length video is just about right for your style. It gives you time to teach/instruct/explain while you demonstrate. In this case I especially liked the 'classroom' to practical application transition - plus I honestly like seeing the interior of the off grid cabin. This video reminded me a little of the series your mentor Dave Canterbury did from what I think he called a 'hunter's cabin'. If I remember right that series was a little more geared toward showing gear and other things to set up a more permanent/base type location that would be used year after year during hunting season, etc. so it isn't like you are copying that series there is just something of the same 'feel' which I think is good. The classroom gives you a chance to slow down and give more details than you can maybe give while you are digging a fire pit, etc
What's cool about this channel is that you cover this specifically and then anyone can go back and see where you have improvised almost all of the 10 C's in multiple ways over the years. It's a shame knowledge starts with a k, because it would be the ultimate c 😃
Been following you for years now, from here in India. What you teach, how you teach is calming for me. No nonsense, clean commentary and the sounds of the forest for a wannabe outdoorsman, stuck in a corporate job, "worth it's weight in gold". Thank you for all that you do. Love from India ❤
Great video, thank you. You are a very good teacher, explaining the why, what, as well as demonstrating techniques. Editing is top notch. I love your straight forward “if you are not in military and not trained you probably won’t. Keep up the good work.
I love these type of videos man. Seeing things used is alright but being explained to about how they function together is down right awesome. Appreciate the time you put into your videos.
One thing I have noticed about most sewing kits is that they give you a rainbow of thread colors, but they usually skimp on the quality of the thread. Check your thread to make sure it doesn't break easily. I keep upholstery thread in my mending kit. Not pretty, but you can sew heavier, tighter weaves without breaking your thread.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, thank you for your service. You’ve earned the right to be proud of you contributions to your fellow man and country.
I'm in the same boat as you on the Ka-bar. Used to be my go to until I started really doing bushcraft. My knives have since gotten smaller and more Scandinavian. Currently I'm rocking the Terava Jaakaripuukko from Finland, only thing I like better than the Garberg.
Top quality video (as usual) The needs versus wants point can't be mentioned enough. I have a colleague at work that takes half his belongings with him when he goes outdoors. Then complains about the weight and cost of it all. Keep up the good work Corporal Kelly and I'll keep watching.
You sir are awesome. I have seen hours of your content and took it out in the woods myself and see if I wanted it in my arsenal of Knowledge. I have learned many things from you, and I can for one say that all of your videos are solid and are practical for many to learn. There is only so much advanced SERE can do. Keep it up brother.
Great video, tell em and show em. I like you teaching military old school kit and how to employ it, with improvements. This goes on the grandkids watch list. Many thanks.
Like the addition of a whiteboard. It re-enforces the points in your lesson. I also like the classroom atmosphere and THEN going out and using all the gear.
Great point on the light colour bandana, mine is green because that's what the shop had when I purchased it, I feel like I will soon upgrade to a brighter colour.

Happy Easter Shawn. Don't worry about the video length, it was so full of info that I was too busy learning to notice the length.
Loving this video.
When are you coming to teach in the UK?
Dude thank you for saying “bring what the hell you want” instead of “whatever works for you” as a default. The fact that there’s no perfect way to do this is part of the fun. The armchair warriors go nuts over what’s “right n wrong”

I was never a boy scout, take that either way. But I grew up out in the country having to make do. So yeah the armchair/ keyboard types annoy me a bit.
Love that statement Shawn “bring what the hell you want” on another note those bic lighters are refillable which are easy to refill
Bring what the hell you want but also know how to use them.
I agree with you. My kit differs because I mostly need it for urban stuff, so a big knife only sits in my car.
Well said!
The video could go for three hours Corp and I'd still watch it. Never forget the 11th "C" ...Coffee!
My dude is out doing his thing like a beast. Get'er done son!

Respect Matie
I have seen this type of video 100 times or more over the years . We learn through repetition, and it's in our DNA to learn by seeing and hearing.
Thanks to the Corporal, I’ve been practicing my knots on a bit of paracord at work and now I can identify the knots in this video.

I second that.
Good balance between a discussion about gear and skills and the practical application of them in the field. Thank you for the detailed explanation about basic gear and the thought behind why to carry it.
Waking up on a Sunday morning, having a cup of coffee with the Corp. Life is good.

This is my personal favorite type of video. A description of the items/skills followed by real-world demo. Two thumbs way up!
Hey buddy. Thanks for being real. You are actually giving real life information. Most people haven't been stuck, fucked, or stranded.
Hoorah! A longer video. I hope it's not a fluke. Make them longer, if someone doesn't like it they can ask to talk to the manager.
Man , I really like the new format / style of the Solo Overnighters . Lots of new ways of thinking about bushcraft , recreational camping , and emergency survival siruations . Please make more like this

Brother I love watching your videos !! I have learned soo much over the years . Thank you very much for your time and knowledge
I really appreciate the teaching style. This does connect the dots.
Best video yet has to be said.
What YOU NEED.
Not what you want, think you need.
Just what you need.
And most people, no matter how out of shape, can carry ALL of this.
Appreciate it that you walk the talk. Not many out there show you how and why to use the equipment.
You keep doing you Sir. I have a lot of respect for someone that will keep going against all algorithms. I absolutely love your content and have learned a ton!
Another great video, teach and show, you taught (book learners) and you showed (hands on) so there is no reason everyone can’t go out and do.
No one explains bushcraft and survival better than the Corporal!
“Not tacticool”… outstanding!
Simple things can make all the difference!
You are such an excellent teacher Shawn! We appreciate you taking time to teach us every week! ❤
Hey Corporal, I've been watching your videos since 2019 and I don't give a shit how long they are I'm gonna watch them till the end , Period!!! So are your loyal followers , so don't sweat it!!
Have a good week ahead and,,,,,,,Stay Safe Everyone
Love the change up, a gear dump that’s actually helpful and educational for us. Little classroom and a lot of field :)
Thanks for another great video. For one, I like the extended video length. Good things aren't rushed, rushed things aren't good.
Gear dump, practical reasoning, outdoor skills, 5 C’s, overnight. This is the Corporal at his best.
I really like this white board format. Haven’t seen you stuff a garbage bag in a while!! Keep it up!
Every minute of this was a sound time investment. Thank you.

Probably thee,if not, best camping/outdoors RUclipsr I’ve came across, very helpful tips and tricks. Also enjoyable to watch. Keep it up CC🤝
Corporal is the man! Love this education vids
I’ve always carried a butane torch. Your comments regarding the benefits of a Bic lighter have me sold. Thanks.

68 years old here and still huffing it.

I really enjoyed the video. I'm a gear head anyway. You had a good presentation on the equipment and why. People that don't know or just learning should find this very useful.

Nothing like watching some Corporals Corner while on Duty!! Keep the vids coming brother!! 🤙🏻
That was a great video Shawn. That same minimalist kit in the back seat of your truck means the difference between being cold & hungry when an unexpected breakdown happens in the middle of nowhere. Nice job!
LOVE THIS! Sick of people showing their shiny unused stuff and NOT how they use it(if they ever did).
Love and respect what you do to the core!!!!❤️
I dont mind the length of the video at all, I appreciate all the info.
Excellent basic gear class! Taking your time to explain each item, and show its use was a huge plus in getting an understanding of WHY each item is important and how it was chosen. Outstanding AF Shawn, well done!
I love the whiteboard explanations and then get out and do it. A great concept.
You are aserious dude Corporal. Love your dry humor. All the best fromanother country.
Thank you, I searched and found a first gen Molle ruck and assault pack loaded it up. Did not take long to realize at 76 years of age We were not going to get far. You just led me back to reality. Thank you love the old stuff any way
Great video. My food supply is usually a packet of jerky oats bars isotonic powder some hard candies. Bic lighters is a must.
I don't care if your videos are 19 minutes or 45 . I enjoy watching and always walk away with something . Thank you for making time to share your thoughts and knowledge with everyone . Don't think it's not appreciated .
I'm ok with the long videos. You are very educational.
One of the hardest working RUclipsr's I've seen on this platform. I really enjoy your vids and the value I get from them. Thank you......keep em coming.
Please keep going in this prepper/survivalist route 🤙🏻
IMO this is the best video youve done, so much information and a clear and consise way. Great work and thanks!
Brother we want you to make videos that are at least 1 to 4 hours long. Ok we can't get to much or enough of your life saving information. God bless you sir. Please keep up the great work.
Really great video. Love the long form content. Especially the “why” you bring things explanation is great. Keep up the good work!
Great format, discussion and demo. Length was perfect TBH...long enough to cover it all and more importantly show how to use it. Semper Fi
Now that makes good CommonCents! A discussion on the 10c's never gets old. Well done Corporal!
Yes big shaun totally useful information not bullsh*t thanks for making these videos brother I enjoy watching and looking forward to the next. one word outstanding 👊
I've been watching for a long time, and this video is one of the greats getting added to the survival favorites lists. Job well done!
Love you Corporal, the skills I learned from you got me out of a bad situation. Saved my life ty.
So refreshing to see a minimum kit! Back to the basics baby. Favorite video as of late.
Thanks for the lesson Corporal. Much appreciated.
Something to have in your vehicle at all times, coat & blanket + emergency rations! Firearm too!
Absolutely loving the old school vibe. Keep it up Kelly!
I really do enjoy your videos. I can't always watch right away but I find them to watch.
Top quality video (as usual) The needs versus wants point can't be mentioned enough. I have a colleague at work that takes half his belongings with him when he goes outdoors. Then complains about the weight and cost of it all. Keep up the good work Corporal Kelly and I'll keep watching.
Just got around to watching due to holiday family functions. This video format is very very cool.
Enjoyed the explanation first, and the camping always A1
Enjoyed every 33'55" of it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I really do like the explanation of the thought process and showing the skills. You're teaching me, not just showing.
Great refresher . Love watching your explanations very easy to follow along. Thank you Shawn for all you do!
I love the new "classroom" then application style video, good work man! Thanks for what you do.
I love the video length corp, you are so a great teacher. See you next time
Great video, tell em and show em. I like you teaching military old school kit and how to employ it, with improvements. This goes on the grandkids watch list. Many thanks.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos, Corporal. Thanks for posting and sharing your wisdom with us every week.
