I'm starting motorcycles this summer. I'm thinking about doing both street riding and off-road. I like both sport bikes and dirt bikes so I was going to pick up one of each to do both.
I started riding on a scooter back when I was a 12 year old kid,and then I bought a cruiser when I was 22,and I still have the same bike. I am thinking about getting some 125 dual sport to ride around the local woods outside my town, maybe I'll get it if I'll have some extra money in the future.
Nice! I've always loved scooters too. I need to get another one. You should definitely get a 125 for local woods riding. Honestly you don't really need more than a 125 for woods riding. My 450 supermoto is way too powerful but the good thing is it has a button that switches engine maps to make it less powerful when I head off-road.
I love dirt riding and completely agree that variety is the spice of life. I have a little Z125 pro right now that’s a blast to jump on and rip the hell out of. Have a WR250r mainly set up for dirt (best riding) and have an XSR700 for the streets absolutely love that bike as well. Would love to see cycle Cruza get a Z or a grom think you’d love it man
I started on dirt bikes when I was 10 and 40 years later ride dual sport..the closest thing to a street bike I ride is a tenere 700.. never did like the riding position of sport bikes or cruisers
@@CycleCruza no I haven't..not really into that.. off road is my first love.. that's why I still have my wr250r..the t7 is more for traveling and moto camping..
I started on a little pit bike and an old Honda XL 125, did all my falling and learning the physics of motorcycling on dirt so when I got my first big bike a Yamaha MT-07 I was right at home on it.
Will forever love dirt bikes. Growing up riding them. Starting out on a 125 then a 250. Then for a obvious reason living in Saitama Japan I got into drifting when I was 15. Still I'd rather choose 2 wheels over 4 wheels.
@@CycleCruza Dirt bikes weren't as popular in Saitama as they were when I was growing up in Perth. We moved to Japan when my mum took a teaching position. Then got into drifting while in high school. Didn't start riding motorcycles on the street till after moving back to Australia and living in Sydney. Now stateside I put more miles on 2 wheels than 4 wheels.
I started out in the 70's riding a Honda trail 70 when I was 9 years old. We lived in the Mojave desert and was heaven for off road riding. I eventually got a Kawasaki KX125 the first year it came water cooled. Then on to a 1985 Honda 350X three wheeler then in 1992 to the beast Honda XR600R. Moved from the desert to Illinois where I got a 2006 Yamaha YZF 600R and sold that in a year and then bought a 2015 Suzuki DRZ400s dual sport which I still have and love it....Ohh yeah,I bought a little Honda Navi as well in 2021, it's a hoot.
I also started on a dirt bike, a klx140L that had some work done to it, got it up to 62mph. Ride it on the public roads for about a year and half, then moved to a klx250S, now I ride a Z400. The dirtbike characteristics are more similar to a bicycle which we all have experience with
Currently have a Honda 250l and the best part about it is riding off-road and being able to hop between trails and the streets. Plus you can act like an idiot off road and you don’t have to worry about cops. Honestly don’t know if I’ll get rid of it but will definitely look at getting other bikes to add to the garage.
I was lucky looking back. I grew up on a farm, we had a Big Red 350 three wheeler and farm bikes that were to big for me as a four yo so i rode the the three wheeler. At age 5 i got a RM 80 and it all came together with that lill beast. It was an older model when i started motor x it was so loud you could hear it over all the other bikes. So i dont actually remember starting riding i just always have. Ive had jobs where ive had to do "Training days" and always outride the instructor at the end of the day they would pull me aside and ask how i did this and that so totally agree Start on a dirt bike cant go wrong! Ive had some pretty big accident's in my time and all the muscle memory saved my ass every time. 1979 RM 80 T- Suzuki Yall 🤣😂😉 My dad got it for me so i could move the stock on the farm and just the sound of it made the job pretty easy lol.
My first motorcycle was a Suzuki, ?? Dirt bike. It was the 80s and I was 14 years old. I had it for one summer till someone stole it. Funnest summer of my life! I always swore I would get another motorcycle one day. At 51, I finally did. A Honda silverwing 600cc scooter. Within two months I had a brand new, 2020, iron 883. Rode it for well over a year and now have a 2021 Low Rider S. Been riding it for a little over a year now. I still want something to rip down dirt roads on though! Gonna have to make that happen this year!
Great first bike! You don't need ABS, just make sure that you learn proper braking skills tho. I did a video on braking here: ruclips.net/video/PINA1PxNr4k/видео.html Get into the habit of using both the front and rear brake together.
Hey cycle cruza my buddies told since I'm new to motorcycles I should go for street bikes instead of dirt bikes due to the maintenance what do you think?
Get a Yamaha dirt bike a just do oil changes like I did. I bought my 2019 YZ450FX in 2018 and I ever did was change oil every 8-12 hours. I have not even checked the valves one time.
You should have been on your super moto, doing this vid. Yes I started of a dirt bike too. Dual sport. Honda 250. But thought I was missing the real fun, having a street bike. But got a WR 250, and have a different kind of fun on that bike. Peace Cruza.
I spent a couple years as a kid on a KTM 85SX doing enduro and track riding, later upgraded to a KTM 250XC and stuck with that for a year or so. Finally looking at getting a supersport style street bike. Everyone says start with an R7 or even R3 (as far as yamahas go) but I really think they'd get boring pretty quick after having years of dirt bike experience. Thinking a proper 600 would be more suitable. Anyone got thoughts?
I agree with the dirt bike idea, but for us city/urban folks in high-populated areas, would a dirt bike still be preferred for people that have little to no access to dirt? With regards to preparing for a MSF class with no access to dirt, wouldn't a small street bike be recommended for new riders (or older riders that rode in their 20's, but now age 55+ wanting a refresher before attempting a MSF class) ?
Yet another video that inadvertently tells how ADV bikes are the best type of bikes out there. Sure, the heavy weights are a bit too heavy for tough, technical terrain, but the middleweights have options that allow a mixture of on-road/offroad experiences that NO other bike class can pull off. You wanna hit dirt? The middleweight can do it. You wanna take a road trip? It can do that too. You want to do hoodrat stuff and pop wheelies through some streets or catch wind in the twisties?? It's got you covered. Then the lightweight ADV bikes are even better at some of those things by sacrificing long range comfort. It can do it, but not as well as a mid or heavyweight. Nothing touches ADV bikes when it comes to their ability. They're not the fastest or the best offroad but they can cover every aspect of why we ride.
what would you say the best middleweight ADV is? My vote is the Suzuki DR650. Nothing quite like it. Then the T7. I like the lighter models myself, ~300CC.
@@durtyred86 I cant argue against that. I'm just not a fan of the road, but want to pickup a burger is all. But I like something for campgrounds etc, a small CC dualsport is perfect.
Got my first dirt bike when I was 22 its a 2021 YZ 250 had it for 2 years now. I got it as my first bike because I rode few times before and I knew it's a very powerful very responsive bike. 250 2 strokes have so much power and throttle response it's insane wheelie any speed and gear 5th gear power wheelie on dirt😃🤙🥂⚡☀️ I would dirt bike more but I don't have any people to ride with so I don't Wana get hurt by myself in the forest deep no service. I want a mto7 so I can be happy and ride by myself more since my friend is a panzy and won't ride dirt bikes with me.
Bruh you can’t be the all in one motorcycle channel when years at a time are just riding/talking about one bike. How much off road shit you done on here
I agree big time! I recommend all new riders to do some serious off roading for at least a year. You will learn more bike skills and develop more emergency-maneuvering instincts in that one year, than you would learn in TEN years on pavement riding. It can save your life, and also make riding wayyy more fun because its more fun when you're a tually good at handling a motorcycle.

I like dirtbikes because you can get crazy without worrying about getting a ticket, also it can be a good workout
I did start on a dirt bike and got a street bike later but ended up going back to dirtbike riding I feel it's more safer for me
I was lucky looking back.
1979 RM 80 T- Suzuki Yall 🤣😂😉
My dad got it for me so i could move the stock on the farm and just the sound of it made the job pretty easy lol.
I'm only 9 years old and I've gone from a dirtbike Honda crf50f but now I have a dirtbike Honda crf110f
I agree. A dirt bike or smaller bike are good 1st bikes.
I thought that everybody did start on a dirt bike becouse i did
I was wrong
We all did back in the day because we were too young to legally ride street bikes.
I can't wait to get a dual sport I'm getting my moto license next month! I got a 125cc Apollo pit bike that im still learning on 🤘🏽
First thing I did on a dirt bike was lay it down 😂. Great first start!
I tried the sport bike life, ran back to my cruiser! I am super moto curious however...😁
Amen Cycle Cruza! I can’t believe you mentioned the dirt bike kid 😂.
Yessir started riding on a CRF250R
I’m really considering buying a ninja 400 as a first bike. Is it okay if it doesn’t have abs?
The one with a parallel twin engine or the upcoming ZX4R with inline 4 engine that should be on the market soon?
Buy a used 650 ninja
Great first bike! You don't need ABS, just make sure that you learn proper braking skills tho. I did a video on braking here: ruclips.net/video/PINA1PxNr4k/видео.html
Get into the habit of using both the front and rear brake together.
Good idea man thanks
Rode a dirt bike for a month. a lifan 200 then I went and got me a vfr 800 .
You didn't like it? Thank you.
You need to check out Link's Garage on RUclips. He is working on a Husqvarna super moto with a two stroke Yamaha Banshee engine.
You should have been on your super moto, doing this vid. Yes I started of a dirt bike too. Dual sport. Honda 250. But thought I was missing the real fun, having a street bike. But got a WR 250, and have a different kind of fun on that bike. Peace Cruza.
So you only need an adventurer that meets all your needs, have you tried it?
Agreed 💯💯
Have you seen the new YUGO motorcycles?
@BuckRogers I'd agree with you on both TBH. But it depends on what you'd like to do with it more than anything else.
@@durtyred86 I cant argue against that. I'm just not a fan of the road, but want to pickup a burger is all. But I like something for campgrounds etc, a small CC dualsport is perfect.
Damn bro you got almost 2000 videos!
It seems that there are only 4 bad things in Ohio: pot holes, the winter, the pollution and the 30rd mag limit.
Start cr500 dirt bike best decision to make
🤣 That could kill a new rider. That is a beast of a dirt bike!
Psycho cruiser I started on a 1986 ATC 350X3 willer. I agree dirt by shouldn't be what you start or
Cool, I remember that bike from back in the day, it was really popular.
It d*** show was they taxing hard for them now? If you can find one they're collectible I don't
The problem of starting on dirt bike is thar, it's way too much fun such that you might not want to get off it.
My car is trying to hit people from the back now? Everybody’s a freak in 2023.
They took tate Bugatti at the last 😂
Dirt first,,,,pavement later.
💯

I agree big time! I recommend all new riders to do some serious off roading for at least a year. You will learn more bike skills and develop more emergency-maneuvering instincts in that one year, than you would learn in TEN years on pavement riding. It can save your life, and also make riding wayyy more fun because its more fun when you're a tually good at handling a motorcycle.
