FMX/MX all encompassing, as well as skating, listening to Nu Metal, rockin my Fox gear for Halloween because I could, endless hours of playing Freekstyle with my siblings, and being stoked whenever it was time for the X-Games. Both are secondary copies that I bought after a little bit of owning the game for the sole purpose of hiding them away in a safe place never to be touched. Those were and are my all-time games no doubt. Midnight being #1, MX being #2. And I knew from experience that any game that is there to be played will get broken or damaged at somepoint, so I secretly bought them and kept them safe to this day. They are my prized possessions, and I don't see that changing.

Sadly I think he came down with the flu and wasn't on his best game, but he still dominated, but didn't dominate as much as Ryan Villopoto did. RV stunk it up. Got the holeshot both times in his two motos and won both by over a minute I think, including one of which where he fell down. Oh, and he did it on a 250. He won by over a minute on a 250 even in the mixed moto that had the 250s and 450s. That was magical to watch live.

    I loved this video guys. I am in the same boat as Nolan, motocross back in those days was everything. Excitement, rivalry, speed, coolness and something so pure. Times changed and so did the sport. I am just grateful I was so into it all when it was hot, younger kids these days will never experience anything like it.

    Dude I actually got emotional when I got the notification for this episode.
    Motorcross has been a huge part of my life, and it always will be. I grew up with my dad racing his quad and being absolutely amazing and winning his first ever race when I was 3 years old. He quit because he wanted to spend time with his family. For his training before he quit, he built a full sized Mx track in our horse pasture, and would go out there and fly. Then he threw me on a Yamaha 50cc dirtbike with training wheels on, and sent me out to rip. Eventually I found I was more stable on quads, which my entire family has ridden since the 1980s, and this year, through the pandemic, at age 17, I prepared to race my first ever Mx race at the local track. Ended up busting the quad and hurting my foot so I wasn’t able to race, but I’m going hard next year looking for that win.
    I want to thank the entire donut media crew for making this episode of wheelhouse, as it made me feel so nostalgic seeing the clips of freestyle and supercross that I grew up watching.

    I will absolutely never forget X Games 1999, seeing Travis pull off brand new tricks like the Indian Air (that superman seat grab with the legs scissor-kicked to absolute perfection). And then, after decimating the field and guaranteeing victory after his first run, using his 2nd run to launch his bike and himself into the San Fran Bay. Four-year-old Me had a new sporting hero for life.
    Travis was probably a lot of the reason for me buying my 2005 RM250 when I was 15 in 2010 (which I still ride to this day, see profile pic lmao).
    The way that this clean-cut but goofy teenager came in with his bright yellow Factory Suzuki racing 125cc (hell he even ran his 199 national racing number at the 2000 X Games) and crushed a field full of badass dudes on blacked out 250cc’s, in between race weekends, is so insane. Somehow he had the time, talent, and energy to invent all these amazing new freestyle tricks and win competitions in between a 125SX East title and a 125 Outdoor National title. With how specialized both sports are now, it’ll never be seen again.
    I’m really happy that I got to grow up in the era that had Travis Pastrana in it.

    The downfall of motocross is when they took away the two strokes... has nothing to do with emissions it's about part sales, the manufacturers make more money on four strokes over all. Back in the mid 80s everybody had a brand new bike, the average racer could get two seasons out of one with minimal maintenance. chain sprocket, top end kit, tires, clutch plates.. the more serious racer got a new one every year for the next 8 or 10 years as it went, or could actually afford to have two bikes.. a practice bike and race machine... I remember buying a brand new KX 125 in 1984 for $1,795 glory days are over.......R.I.P Marty Smith

    • @TeKaMOTO
      @TeKaMOTO 4 года назад +3

      While it's true that the early four strokes we're garbage and might have lead to many people quitting the sport, the current ones are actually (usually) really reliable and relatively inexpensive to maintain. I had a 2013 Kawasaki kx450f for like 4-5 years and rode it up to 120 hours until I did a top end rebuild, (basically the piston,rings, cam chain and gaskets) which cost me about 400-500€.
      Compare that to changing a piston, rings, bearing and gaskets on a 125cc every 20-30 hours for about 100-150€ and the costs aren't that different anymore.
      According to this calculator: www.officialdata.org/us/inflation/1984?amount=1795 the inflation adjusted value of 1795$ would be about 4500$, which admittedly is much less than the 8000-9000$ new bikes cost nowadays. But then again the tech, like suspension and EFI have *slightly* improved the way the bikes perform as well.
      Not to mention the fact that four strokes are stupidly easy to ride fast. A bit slower in tight corners, but coming out they just pull.
      The biggest thing here in Finland that is making people quit are the insurance prices. When I started riding in 2004, insurance for a motocross bike was about 80-120€/year, but due to some legislative changes where mx bikes can now be handled as their own group instead of pooling them together with all vehicles in the country, the prices have risen to about 1500-6000€ per year.

    • @lancerains4185
      @lancerains4185 4 года назад

      Agreed... at the introduction of the four-stroke they were really pretty Junkie and unreliable... they have definitely come a long way and has made for some exciting racing at the top level... That still doesn't change the fact that the local turnouts are very small and not nearly as exciting as the 2-stroke day's... on my previous comment, I wasn't saying that the sport was totally dead I guess just different in a lot of ways still pretty alive in so many aspects... I'm personally just glad to see that Yamaha, KTM and some others still make great 2 Strokes... lastly, I'm currently looking into getting a yz450f to convert to Supermoto... Have fun stay safe.
