Hey, I watch from Italy. .. how many memories ... I saw again when I repaired the gearbox of my 109. Today I don't know if I would still be able. Complimenti Bravo Bravo Bravo
Hey, I watch from France. I saw every video on your channel. I will never do what you do but I like A LOT watching your videos. You film very well, your skills are awesome, and I like the type of machines you work on. Thanks a lot. Every video is pure mechanical delight.
Thanks for the episodes on the transmission rebuild. I leaned on your instructions more than the green Bible. A valuable tool for those of us out here in Series land. Thank you.
As an old Land Rover owner for 11 years, this is not only incredible as a learning tool, but you're hilarious and entertaining! Totally lost it at the whitworth sockets meets Rammstein.
As a guy who sells fasteners, time for confusion. A bolt usually has a shaft and thread at the end, what you pulled out is a bolt and what you replaced it with is a set screw, a fully threaded bolt. The usual formula for thread is 3 and a 1/2 times the diameter of the bolt, so a short bolt will usually be a set screw. Then you get manufacturers (usually automotive) who love using non standard bolts so you have to buy original.
Fascinating videos. I rebuilt my 1966 Series IIA some 44 years ago before driving it from London to Kathmandu where I sold the car. This has brought back lots of memories and I will watch all your other videos over the next few evenings. I live near Blenheim now and was down near Wanaka earlier this year and found an old Series 3 in a barn and thought it might be fun to restore if the farmer would sell it but that was just day dreaming, I'm too old now but you know what they say 'lose your dreams and you might lose your mind" (Ruby Tuesday).
Brilliant. Really appreciate all the extra time with all the immaculate filming, editing, voice over, and humour. You definitely need a little humour when you're trying to fix a series LR.
I have to say.. One of, if not the best series of 'how to' style videos I've come across on RUclips. Its rare to have someone you is obviously handy with a spanner to also have a talent for shooting video and narrating in a very professional manner and to a large degree better than 'professional' TV programmes that skip over the details and have annoying cut scenes and so on.. Great work, please keep it up!
I'm honestly impressed with the creativity shown by Land Rover in finding so many ways to stick two parts together in just a transmission. There must have been an entire team dedicated to bolts, fasteners, strange clips, odd gaskets and outlandish attachments.
Spreading the silicone sealant thinly on the mating parts will cause air bubbles to be trapped within the joint. It's better to put a single solid bead. Nice work, I'm happy youtube suggested these series and I'm looking forward to see the next episode.
It’s a hex head screw. A bolt joints pieces together via a nut. That’s literally all I have to contribute; I could never do this, but I damned well love watching it. Keep doing what you’re doing my dude.
I'm guessing these gearboxes were a pain in the arse to assemble in the factory, never mind in a homeworkshop. It's such a contrast from modern days, where ease of assembly/manufacture is a key design requirement. Awesome video :-)
Well, Geoffrey, that looked easy! The romance of working on one's own Land Rover gearbox as you have documented gives a whole new meaning to the application of the desiderata......Nice video to watch.
Right when I’m about to give up on finding new channels and content to keep me entertained during my night shit... up pops the gateway videos of you rebuilding a drill press.. and I have liking for defenders. I’m hooked! Thanks
Very enjoyable videos! I have a 1969 Series IIA Santana that was my family cruiser when Served in Colombia with the US Military, Embassy. 60,000 one owner miles. Pure driving.
I'm finding the compromise of surprisingly relaxing moments crossed with soil yourself scary fail noises at top volume interesting to say the least. Probably the best rebuild of a series box I've ever seen. Probably better than the best Land Rover ever chucked out the doors that's for sure!
You have some of the best editing on your videos! Great job! It's funny how overbuilt the old land rover stuff was... yet utilized horrible engineering at the same time. That 3rd gear bushing and 3/4 synchro are a real piece of work.
I must commend both your mechanical and video skills! Your video is top notch and the clearest repair instruction i’ve seen. You certainly treat your gearbox like a mechanical watch and I look forward to see the next video!
I just about blew coffee through my nose when Stahlwillie showed back up!! Ha, good stuff. Your builds always look like museum quality work. When I first used Form-a-Gasket, latex gloves were non-existent. I had that crap on my pants, shirts, and it filled my fingerprints until I could wash it out with the old orange colored gas. Man, times have changed..... Good stuff, bud. Good stuff.
Please man, don't leave me hanging!! 😂!! I've watched your three season 3 land rover series videos losing track of time. They are simply so good, from a lot of perspectives. Keep it up and really good work. Cheers
Pro tip: if you pollish the 4WD knob hard enough it turns into a Low Range Knob :) Great set of videos, looking forward to the engine episode. I'm battling with cheap brake shoes on a 109 LWB, we never learn!
Wow I thought I must have been the only Land Rover owner to break a gear stick. I had no idea how simple these gear boxes are. I didn’t have much joy with a 13 year old series III for my first car as I was an apprentice electrician at the time with no room or time to work on it, it broke my heart. Since then I picked up good mechanical skills and would love to own a series IIA as I could now handle all restoration and repairs myself now. As for oil leaks, my local Land Rover dealer told me that you only have to worry when they stop leaking.
Awesome series of videos, not only the workmanship of your LR and tools/machinery but the videos themselves. I tip my hat to you sir. I’m currently rebuilding and completely modifying my 110 from the ground up and all I can manage is a few pics on Instagram , and it certainly won’t be as pretty as yours 👍👍
Great video, really appreciate the amount of work you put into your videos to make them with such attention to detail. Got a Series 3 that I want to eventually tear down and rebuild, you're a huge inspiration in that regard!
Blimey! What a blast from the past. Being an ex British Serviceman (both Air Force and Army (and to quote your good self - "Don't judge me!") between 1975 and 1997, I drove a fair number of landrovers (Series 3, 1 Tonne and Defenders). Now, back in the early eighties, I was stationed in East Anglia on one of the (at the time) primary air defence stations of the UK. We had a Series 3 Landrover and (here comes the point!), whilst driving to somewhere on the camp, the gearstick came off in me hands. The thing is, as a repair, it was welded at the MT Section with a weld far prettier than yours - SEVERAL TIMES :-D Yep! It kept on breaking on an almost monthly basis. I remember that it was quite alarming the first time despite on travelling at the 20MPH limit imposed within military bases. So, your crappy looking one there is apparently far better that the professionally, bench executed effort that we were presented. Enjoying the series, I hope you keep it up!
Great work. I'm tossing up whether to tackle my gearbox myself or to have a gearbox specialist do it for me. The trouble is the cost of my restoration is way over budget.
I wish I was your neighbor! I would love to see this in person but youtube is a good second. I look forward to seeing what all you do to the engine. Regards,Silas
Another great video with brilliant content and presentation. thank you.Two questions Geoff. What is the red grease you use on everything? The TC sump pan/plate. Why not ditch the gasket and use a silicon type sealant on it? Is there any particular reason you retained the gasket?
All your videos have been invaluable to my build. 1st class on all counts - clarity, speed, detail. Thank you!!
Hey, I watch from Italy. .. how many memories ... I saw again when I repaired the gearbox of my 109. Today I don't know if I would still be able. Complimenti Bravo Bravo Bravo
This is by far, by favorite Land Rover transmission rebuild by a Kiwi, ever. Also - that Stahlwille/Rammstein interlude is still fantastic!!
Not only are these videos informative, they are entertaining and a little comical. Perfect! Thanks, Geoffrey!
I know nothing about mechanics but I enjoy the progress of restoring anything from cars to old tools. But also learning a lot from these videos.
The Stahlwille/Rammstein bit will never get old. I did not think that I would ever laugh as loud as I did at a transmission rebuild video.
The irony of the best Whitworth tools being made in Germany...
Haha, yeah, any excuse for more Rammstein!
Yeah I was surprised at how hard I laughed at this moment. So good.
My friend didn't get it, can someone explain to him?
Landrovers don't leak, they just mark their territory.
They sweat power
not leaking oil, sweating power
Like Volkswagens! (air-cooled in particular)
My Toyota doesn't leak, it respects the environment.
If you see a Landy without any traces of oil underneath it - there probably isn't any oil in it :-) We all love em !!
Hey, I watch from France. I saw every video on your channel. I will never do what you do but I like A LOT watching your videos. You film very well, your skills are awesome, and I like the type of machines you work on. Thanks a lot. Every video is pure mechanical delight.
Thanks Onel
Thank God we have a Land Rover master mechanic. Enjoy the day. Ray L
Thanks for the episodes on the transmission rebuild. I leaned on your instructions more than the green Bible. A valuable tool for those of us out here in Series land. Thank you.
This is better viewing than most high budget restoration shows. Thanks mate
Your editing style is quite hypnotic. I am not a mechanic and I will never have a land rover but I love it so. I can’t stop watching..
Quite possibly one of the most interesting while relaxing videos on RUclips! Skill is unbelievable
As an old Land Rover owner for 11 years, this is not only incredible as a learning tool, but you're hilarious and entertaining! Totally lost it at the whitworth sockets meets Rammstein.

Very well made videos with clear processes. Thanks for making the internet better.
A thing of beauty and functionality - last time it will be seen clean. Brilliant videos Geoffrey
It’s very therapeutic to watch this !
best landrover video I have ever seen ...well done
Deja vu ! My brother and I spent hundreds of hours working on cars when we were students. Geoffrey you are replaying my youth.
That is a thing of beauty. Addictive viewing!
Loved the video as always Geoff. Last time I watched anything with this much grease, it had Olivia Newton John in it.
Brilliant. Really appreciate all the extra time with all the immaculate filming, editing, voice over, and humour. You definitely need a little humour when you're trying to fix a series LR.
Just as I was giving up hope on RUclips for a lack of incredible footage, you pop up in my feed. Absolutely brilliant!
I like how you keep your workbench clean!
I love your videos.
So nice to see that wonderful Stahlwille case again.
Quality tools as are the Wright tools.
Is there even anyone who knows a series better than You?
Mother of god...
I have to say.. One of, if not the best series of 'how to' style videos I've come across on RUclips. Best comedy sketch I have seen since the 289z bumble bee.
I'm honestly impressed with the creativity shown by Land Rover in finding so many ways to stick two parts together in just a transmission. There must have been an entire team dedicated to bolts, fasteners, strange clips, odd gaskets and outlandish attachments.
No they had four teams; the BA team, the whitworth team, the SAE team, and the metric team. They all contribute where possible.
The socket video was my 1st of yours, but most definitely won't be the last. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers Tom
Same goes for me. At the beginning of the video, I thought I remeberd the voice from somewhere. When the Stahlwille case came out, I knew from where.
Spreading the silicone sealant thinly on the mating parts will cause air bubbles to be trapped within the joint. It's better to put a single solid bead.
Nice work, I'm happy youtube suggested these series and I'm looking forward to see the next episode.

Just Fantastic. I loved it when you almost said "This pile of shims".....very amusing. And Incredibly useful to other sufferers.
Brings back a few memories...... Haven't needed to rebuild my gearbox but took it out and all the ancillary parts for the rebuild.
The amount of work filming and editing your videos must be a massive undertaking, you deserve all your subscribers and views.
Well, Geoffrey, that looked easy! The romance of working on one's own Land Rover gearbox as you have documented gives a whole new meaning to the application of the desiderata......Nice video to watch.
Thanks David
Such a well thought out pair of videos, always a pleasure to watch!
Geoffrey thanks to your videos now I trust my self to restore my gearbox, you're the man! Thanks for sharing!!!
I've always loved using nice shiny tools to pull things to bits. But I really admire folks who can put them back together and make them work.
Enjoying your work. Brings back good memories of installing the crawler box in my last toyota pickup
Right when I’m about to give up on finding new channels and content to keep me entertained during my night shit... up pops the gateway videos of you rebuilding a drill press.. and I have liking for defenders. I’m hooked! Thanks
Cheers Skerky
Very enjoyable videos! I have a 1969 Series IIA Santana that was my family cruiser when Served in Colombia with the US Military, Embassy. 60,000 one owner miles. Pure driving.
Wonderful work - very lucky you had that socket set lying around !
I'm finding the compromise of surprisingly relaxing moments crossed with soil yourself scary fail noises at top volume interesting to say the least. Probably the best rebuild of a series box I've ever seen. Probably better than the best Land Rover ever chucked out the doors that's for sure!
Haha, thanks Matt
This videos just gave me the confidence to at least try to rebuild the gearbox of my Series myself, thank you!
The content is interesting, but its the editing and narration that make me watch these as soon as possible! Thanks again for the great content
Brilliant.
This is the best Landy resto video series I have ever watched. Hilarious and very informative. A+++
You have some of the best editing on your videos! Great job! It's funny how overbuilt the old land rover stuff was... yet utilized horrible engineering at the same time. That 3rd gear bushing and 3/4 synchro are a real piece of work.
Enjoying this series. Then again, you could make boiling a kettle look interesting. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Your humor is great. Awesome series
I have to say as an American... I thoroughly enjoy the Aussie humor
I must commend both your mechanical and video skills! Your video is top notch and the clearest repair instruction i’ve seen. You certainly treat your gearbox like a mechanical watch and I look forward to see the next video!
Thank you!
Love the video. Thanks for the detailed build.
Cracking information. I wasn't expecting a proper in depth video. Keep up the good work.
Great editing and high quality commentary, this channel is a real gem!
Cheers Joel
Outstanding worry mate. Looking forward to the engine video. Jason
Thanks, I worked on the the track as the last Defender came off, this brings back some memories, cheers, carl.
without doubt, one of the most comprehensive re-builds i have seen :) thank you
I just about blew coffee through my nose when Stahlwillie showed back up!! Ha, good stuff. Your builds always look like museum quality work. When I first used Form-a-Gasket, latex gloves were non-existent. I had that crap on my pants, shirts, and it filled my fingerprints until I could wash it out with the old orange colored gas. Yeah, I only recently thought about wearing gloves when putting that stuff on. It still gets on everything though.
Please man, don't leave me hanging!! 😂!! I've watched your three season 3 land rover series videos losing track of time. They are simply so good, from a lot of perspectives. Keep it up and really good work. Cheers
By far the most elaborate video on a Series 3 Gear Box rebuild. I'm currently doing mine and using your tutorial vid as instructions. Nice one mate!
Excellent and entertaining video.... well done!
I don't know if you actually realize how cool it is what you're doing! Well done!
"no gasket because your driveway needs lubricating". Love it!
Pro tip: if you pollish the 4WD knob hard enough it turns into a Low Range Knob :) Great set of videos, looking forward to the engine episode. I'm battling with cheap brake shoes on a 109 LWB, we never learn!

i cannot stop lauging wartching the videos. highly informative and fun.
Slick work. The Rammstein killed me.

I appreciate your sense of humour.
I appreciate you viewership
...fantastic... thanks for taking the time to make these vids
I like that You do things like a normal person sometimes..
Great video, really appreciate the amount of work you put into your videos to make them with such attention to detail. Got a Series 3 that I want to eventually tear down and rebuild, you're a huge inspiration in that regard!
Love the detail in these vids as well as the humor. Keep them coming!
Looks like brand new now 👍
my favorite channel now with cars, I love this!
1:51... I LOLed. "Shtalvila!" Attributing songs to different projects is genius, especially when the projects show up later in use.
Great stuff, great humor !
beautiful work
very simple fnd very good gearbox , nice work
I have never looked that clean working on a car lol.
Craig Marshall That's when you know you're a Pro at it

Awesome story. Thanks!
Wow, and I wondered why I’ve always shied away from gearboxes ;-)
Brilliant and comprehensive two videos, looks so easy
Pretty goddamn nice restoration and video, sir.
nice work sir plus very good narration
As always sir , a perfect presentation
Regards
PARTSMADE 🇬🇧
Brilliant videos ! Thanks !
Great work. I'm tossing up whether to tackle my gearbox myself or to have a gearbox specialist do it for me. The trouble is the cost of my restoration is way over budget.
Great videos! Thanks. Learning lots even though I'm a landcruiser guy.. keep up the great work!
ahh the simplicity ( debatable i guess) and beauty of old cars
Great job!
Awesome work!
I wish I was your neighbor! I would love to see this in person but youtube is a good second. I look forward to seeing what all you do to the engine. Regards,Silas

Watch out for those supermarket car park bogans mate. Can't wait for the rest of the restoration.
Nicely done mate
