Grew up with the original Sons Of Champlin in the Bay Area (lived in Berkeley through the '60s and '70s) and still have their first album on vinyl. Such a talented group of musicians!
In 1968 as a DJ I jumped to KNUS-FM in Dallas, Texas, a progressive rock station from an AM daytime only station. Bands with a horn section blew my mind, big band fullness with a kick ass back beat. Sons of Champlin were a cast above CTA and Blood Sweat and Tears, and Cold Blood made it bleed, Tower of Power nailed it all to the floor. Son's of Champlin still kept moving forward fusing Jazz, Rock and Blues into an art form. Thank you for spotlighting Bill Champlin.

Hi Leland and Maureen. Oh my life....this news. Hahaha this is how the pros do it😂😂😂😂 I fell over. I love this album so much. Bill's voice and all the music talent is incredible.
Two day late video viewer here. Sons of Champlin were great. "Single" and "Runaway" were really good Bill Champlin solo LP's in that yacht rock era. Thanks for partaking, Lee, and for sharing!
Good to see you as always Lee, but make sure you get some rest. A quick nap can help recharge your batteries and right now I think you’re Running On Empty. Now that’s a good title for an album. 😂❤
I wish everyone all the best. This turbulent weather, and the wildfires is becoming more frequent, it seems. I do feel sad for all those affected by it all. I wish Maureen all the best, too. Cheers, Leland! 🙏✌️
Thanks for what you do Lee. This was such a great treat. As a Marin boomer it's almost personal for one of our musical treasures gets your focus. From my 8th grade dance to a few high school proms and senior balls, not to mention all of the shows here and in the City, on and on... Probably taking the songs he wrote much too literally we always look forward to them forming up again to share the music with us these days. ☮🐉👁
One of my all time favorite albums! Jeff’s drum intro drum lick…. So great. Would stare at the credits on the sleeve while listening and wonder if anyone could assemble a better cast of musicians. Bill outdid himself and most others on this one.
My sister and her family are based in Asheville - they live midway up a mountain and whilst their home and property are well-reinforced to “stay in place on clift-side” (BIL is a retired civil/mechanical engineer, so their properties have steel I-beams and ton’s of reinforced concrete), along w/ a whole-property generator, thus they had/have both electric and well water access, but apparently they now lack mobile tower connectivity, albeit w/ his sat phone still functional, our take is that they’re probably still in better shape and situation than most others - 🙏

Though I haven’t heard any of Champlin’s solo tracks (until now), I’ve known since 2000 that *Runaway* was the record he recorded just before he was recruited to join Chicago. By that time, he and (founding Chicago drummer) Danny Seraphine had already collaborated on Danny’s last writing credit with Chicago, “Sonny Think Twice”. That made it onto the first album featuring Champlin as a member and the first of 3 produced by David Foster, *Chicago 16.* When interviewed for the slim volume about Chicago penned by Ben Joseph in 2000, Champlin mused that he was asked to join Chicago at a moment when he knew that the Warner label was not pushing this album real hard and he knew he could use a better musical meal ticket. Recover and enjoy the second leg of the tour, Leland.

@m1nn1s That's some good reasons for your archeological interest. As for the meteorology thing, much of it is just more evidence of how we've screwed up the planet.
@LelandSklar. My electric co-op allows us to vote on board members. They left a skeleton crew here in South MS for us, and sent a convoy of NINETEEN bucket trucks to Florida and Georgia. 12 days after Katrina, Kentucky Power and Light rolled up the hill to my house. Our Power crews, sharing a little Mississippi Hospitality with our neighbors. They'll stay til we call them back home.❤
Here's a Bill Champlin fan, from Portugal. I've got that "Runaway" album (vinyl). The other musicians on that track (apart from Leland and Jeff, already mentioned) are David Foster (keys), Steve Lukather (guitar) and Bill Champlin (background vocals).
This was fun! 😊 I am glad you made it, and hope you get more sleep along the way. Even though I'm going backwards in time catching up the posts. That is pretty close there with Asheville, and Maureen & friends getting out before the worst of it, which sounds really bad at this point. I heard Alan Mearns telling what he could about it, earlier. Then heard more after some water started to recede.
Bill is married to a local (Houston) girl, Tamara Matoesian. I attended the Houston reception. Tamara was a very busy local singer prior to her move to be in LA and (eventually) with Bill. This track makes me feel good!
Hurricane 🌀 Helene has been quite destructive. The worst so far this season. Biden has pledged a large amount of aid , which they will need. Keep everyone down there in our thoughts and prayers ❤😢..
Hi Leland. Not sure if I missed it, but will you say anything about the recent passing of JD Souther? What a fantastic musician, and I know you played with him.
Geez, Mr Sklar , the things a guy has to go through to make an honest buck , these days ! I'm surprised that your eyes are not like the dogs ' manly bits ' ..if you catch my drift ? Have a great follow-up tour .
Today’s track is certainly a well produced song with powerful components including the lead vocal. It’s been considered to be a second rate Chicago but that criticism is undeserved. Climate Change is rearing its ugly head all over the world!
I have some questions for you Leland. Did you ever see The Chicago Transit Authority live, and did you meet the band members, like Peter Cetera? Did you ever see The Doors live, before they got a record deal? Cheers!

I have seen it as well, Asheville is go to place for string music 😕
Hi Gina ☮️, thank you for your live posts 📯 ☮️❤️💋
Love the Sons, btw!!!! ❤
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.

Here's a Bill Champlin fan, from Portugal. I've got that "Runaway" album (vinyl). The other musicians on that track (apart from Leland and Jeff, already mentioned) are David Foster (keys), Steve Lukather (guitar) and Bill Champlin (background vocals).
The pearls before wine in the travels of musician Leland Sklar
This was fun! 😊 I am glad you made it, and hope you get more sleep along the way. Even though I'm going backwards in time catching up the posts. That is pretty close there with Asheville, and Maureen & friends getting out before the worst of it, which sounds really bad at this point. I heard Alan Mearns telling what he could about it, earlier. Then heard more after some water started to recede.
Good afternoon Leland and all✋
Afternoon Ann, ☮️ 🧙🏼♂️🥰.. Ga'an Canny Hinnie! 🤗 ☮️ 🌟 💖
@@annirvin6555 G’day from Australia.🇦🇺🖐
Good evening, Ann. 👋✌️
Get some needed rest and be safe.
Please remember what happened you pushed to hard, I don't wanna hear about another mailman picking you up, we all love ya Lee!
OMG that has happened to me Leland, sitting there looking at the cockpit like come on, surprised they didnt open the door for YOU??
There really was no one like Jeff.
Bill is married to a local (Houston) girl, Tamara Matoesian. I attended the Houston reception. Tamara was a very busy local singer prior to her move to be in LA and (eventually) with Bill.
This track makes me feel good!
Good afternoon Leland!
lol no reply. 😐
🥰🙏
Get some rest Lee. See you Sunday @ DPAC in Durham.
Hurricane 🌀 Helene has been quite destructive. The worst so far this season. Biden has pledged a large amount of aid , which they will need. Keep everyone down there in our thoughts and prayers ❤😢..
I miss you from Thailand
Hi Leland. Not sure if I missed it, but will you say anything about the recent passing of JD Souther? What a fantastic musician, and I know you played with him.
I have talked about JD a lot. He was a dear friend and I cannot believe he is gone…😪
Afternoon Leland👍👍

Geez, Mr Sklar , the things a guy has to go through to make an honest buck , these days ! I'm surprised that your eyes are not like the dogs ' manly bits ' ..if you catch my drift ? Have a great follow-up tour .
And there’s another one forming in the same area. Hopefully it’s not a cat 4. For where ever this one hits.
Cheers!
I saw CTA in the late 60’s with the original line up. They were great. Peter is still one of my favorite bassists.
@@lelandsklar6363 Cool. Thanks for answering my question.
