- A scoring dispute at the 1985 Southern 500 cost Tim Richmond a lap during a cycle of pit stops. When NASCAR tried to penalize him a lap they felt he didn't deserve, things got heated. A brief interview with ESPN showed he had choice words for officials who continued to penalize him for improperly serving his penalty.
Rules are rules ! And NASCAR has ruled the sport to death ! I use to watch every race , i barely watch any now !
Tim Richmond Was Tim Richmond Who Was A Helluva Race Car Driver & He Was Definitely A Rare Breed & Very Talented ....RIP Tim 🏁🏁🙏✌️
Nascar should be ashamed how they treated Tim Richmond at the end.
There was always someone NASCAR did not want to win races.
Always a Harry fan, but enjoyed Tim & his passion for Winning the race or even just for the pole. He was an asset to the sport of NASCAR. I'm not sure anybody had the hunger he had. Had Tim stayed healthy, I'm not sure if the 3 car could have won 7 titles.
I was always a Tim fan. That guy was just cool! Ranked up there in coolness with Clint Eastwood and Evil Knivel.
Tim Richmond was just as good if not better than Earnhardt. He was treated awful and was taken from us too soon. His 30 for 30 'to the limit' is incredible.
NASCAR really screwed things up!
NASCAR treated both Tim Richmond and Bill Simpson very poorly. NASCRAP
Very disappointing way to treat a great driver
Wow... I never knew about this, and I think 1985 is the first time I ever saw Tim race too, and became an instant fan. Thanks for posting, that was pretty good, Tim being Tim :) :) :)
Shame how they treated Tim..................... 🏁🏁
What a wheelman..The sport could use him today.
He's the only driver ever that could intimidate Earnhardt they did this on purpose cuz they like to Earnhardt he was as good if not better driver any day
Tim Richmond wasn't one of the anointed ones so NASCRAP made sure he didn't win.
Loved to watch Tim Richmond at Riverside raceway, he was even better on road courses, had so much talent.
Yeah, rules are rules but when a driver as good as Richmond gets penalized because he's a threat to the leader of this race, something is wrong. Fast forward to 2015, it got worse and worse and as the result I no longer watch auto racing of any kind.....
Naswho? Racing died with the C.O.T.
well it'll never come close to what it was - Greed ruins everything
Earnhardt respected Richmond, once told his crew chief "you'd better check every nut and bolt in that racecar cause he drives the shit out of it". Such a sad end. Richmond was a great driver and a better person.
