Dave was jealous of Tims success on the track. And was trying his hardest to set Tim back a few steps. Tim had 10 poles and 6 or 7 wins that year. With a very strong Dale Earnhardt having a terrific year. The only Winston st Atlanta.

I firmly believe that if Tim, Davey and Alan didn’t pass away, Tim especially.. Dale Sr. probably wouldn’t be a 7 time champ. To me, and I was around when Tim was driving, he really could go toe to toe with Dale. Tim would have won the championship before Alan and Davey. I believe if the 3 of them were still with us and retired at the end of their respective careers, I believe those 3 men probably would have won 2-3 championships each and Dale probably would have 4-5 to his name. I would never take away what Dale has done, ever and I’m not a fan of his but I respect how he became a leader for the sport. But to me, and I don’t think I’m alone in saying this, if those three men were still here, it’s the greatest.. What if..🤔

Yeah, his technique didn't work. The other drivers warned him repeatedly that he was driving the track all wrong and also warned him that you could NOT USE dirt track or rally car techniques for catching the rear if it breaks loose. Back then, turning into a slide was a death sentence because the car bites just as it's pointing at the wall.
