In the bible god's goodness isn't compared to light but the darkness of night. There the people can rest, relax, not worry and find peace away from the harshness of the scorching sun. If you couldn't tell the people of that time lived in a desert.
I mean, yeah, it kinda makes sense for something in the light to be evil because when it's bright out, you're awake and aware of all the worries and all the regrets you have but if its dark then you can sleep forget the worries and just rest honestly the whole darkness means evil thing never really made sense to me because if you put someone in a room where its all dark then sure they can't see but that's about it But with light if it's bright enough you could be blinded or even burned doesn't matter how dark it gets you'll still be safe if the world around you is and with ours sure it's a bit dangerous sometimes but if it's completely dark then a threat can't see you either with the light they can see you and even if you see them you're still less safe them if neither of you know where the other one is. I wonder where the trope of dark being evil began because the dark ultimately is better than the light in just a conceptual form, so is it something to do with instinct or something?

It's fitting that the "forgotten light" dies screaming her name into the void's abyss.
Also, this theme got me thinking that if the Shade Lord could speak and had a lyric video as well, it would be a counter to what the Radiance says.

Hornet is its only hope. She is most likely the only one who can lead the kingdom after the infection dies out and the citizens of Hallownest regain their minds.

@@click41 I'm pretty sure Silksong is actually a prequel, because Team Cherry has stated that they don't want any of their future games to decanonize any of Hollow Knight's endings. In the Sealed Siblings ending, Hornet probably isn't ever getting out of the Black Egg Temple.

Story context: An angry god of light brought a plague to the kingdom. The king made several vessels from the darkness below the kingdom. The best vessel fought the light god and contained the god and plague within itself. Now the vessel is leaking.
You play as one of the discarded spare vessels. In the default ending you seal the plague within yourself and kick the can down the road. In the true ending you enter the vessel's mind and kill the light god.

Several vessels is an understatement. Each vessel that displayed sentience or emotion, he cast into the abyss, where they DIED.
There were hundreds of thousands of dead husks there in the abyss.
I love the way light is portrayed here. The pale king was bright but his light was gentle and bugs were allowed to assert their own mind within it. The radiance's light was harsh and overwhelming, there is no room for one's mind only her.
That's why Pale King never saw a revolution, but Radiance died because of it
Radiances light is an embrace its confortable and warm however you cant move.
Well, it's still worth looking into. nowhere in the game is it indicated that the bugs were against. And nowhere was it indicated that the beetles had a bad life with radiance .and by the fact that there was a society of moths who worshiped the radiance, they had some share of their personality, it doesn't seem like full control. Rather, it is a connection between beetles and some direction for them on which path, but at the same time, creatures controlled by radiance could decide some things themselves. It doesn't feel like radiance is pure evil. But the pale king is not a villain either. They are just opponents of each other. Perhaps the plague that is raging in hollowest is only the consequences of attempts by radiance to escape from imprisonment, and not deliberate actions. The pale king and radiance are most likely both gods, and the pale king tried to destroy the god who was interfering with him in order to rule these lands himself, but in the end nothing happened (perhaps because of the moths, who continued to believe in radiance) and simply decided to notice his opponent. It is impossible to say for sure, but most likely there are no villains in the game at all, there is only the king and radiance, whose actions and disagreements led to the destruction of the kingdom. And there is a void that took advantage of this in the end of the godseekers our main character (who was most likely created by the void, since the king could not create a perfect vessel from the void, but the void itself could) he himself became the god of the void, similar to the pale king or radiance, but most likely the void is also not a villain, although it's hard to say, it depends on which ending will become the canon, and the future of the game .this is my vision of the plot, so it's just a theory, but as for me, radiance is not a villain, imagine that you were locked up, taken away from you what you ruled for maybe centuries and then tried to destroy. Obviously, you won't be too accommodating.
In addition, the fact that not everything was completely controlled by radiance indicates that the pale king was considered and allied with the state of Mantises and spiders, which means that they were already strong, and therefore developed before and during the reign of radiance. Most likely, radiance was something of a common god for the beetles in this territory, it demanded respect and worship and guided the beetles, but did not control them completely.

For some reason, I got the idea that during the whole song radiance is trying to intimidate the knight and make him her follower like the rest of hollownests bugs ("gaze upon me speaketh my name")and getting more and more angry and irritated. And the knight just keep hiring her with the nail, no throughts head empty (probably even with equivalent of the most dull face a bug could master.) Like a pure vessel should.

Love the line "Everything living is under my command." It shows how Radiance is not only narcissistic but also blind. Hornet, The Hunter, The Maskmaker, The Nailmasters and Nailsmith, heck the Mantis are explicitally not under her command.
Don’t forget the Grimm Troupe… though they’re under the “leadership” of another god.

I'm not gonna bother with a funny joke or anything, I'm just genuinely blown away by Caaaarl's performance as the Radiance. She sounds so entitled, so indignant, so regal and imposing and so... Radiance. It just fits our beloved LÄMP moth to a tee.
But also, her performance just makes me wish even more that we got a full version of Daughter of the Dark God from the first Songtober someday.
I imagined her being more furious in my head, but aside from that i agree.

man, i love the opera sound to the radiance's singing voice. casting carl was an absolutely PERFECT choice, her STARTINGLY high notes just add an absolutely bone chilling deity-esque quality to the radiance, an absolutely perfect sell on this being an ancient and wrathful god. the addition of the church choir adjacent chorus as well adds to much to the divine light this song just OOZES. all that combined with the gorgeously glowing art accomplishes the one thing a radiance song absolutely SHOULD and just bleeds godly light and wrath.
in all, this is a perfectly tied bow on the hollow knight bytes package, absolutely fantastic job everyone! this was by far one of my favourite musical bytes thus far for one of my favourite games, you sure did it justice! props to everyone on the team for this one and the package as a whole!!!

Looking back, I love the irony that radiance is a moth who glows with the power of the SUN.
Absolute radiance is probably the hardest boss I've ever fought, more difficult than stuff like Ultra Necrozma, Jevil, and Fatalis. It's truly impressive doing hk's bosses on radiant
What i find most interesting about this is the presence of a chorus. Not saying the song should be without it, I love the voices, but the Radiance has been forgotten for years with no subjects, unless the voices are the Infected bugs or maybe even voices of the past Moths

@@radsnake8104 I dont think that would make sense, since the whole thing about HK's purpose is to BE an object, a cage of sorts, for the Radiance, so the fact that she is addressing them as a "brother" to the Knight means that she is treating HK as a living thing, a being with a mind to think, a flawed being, which is one of the reasons why she over powered HK and has spread the infection once again. I think its a better insult to HK's pride calling them a Living thing than an Object in this case.

Knight being related to hornet,the king, and the hollow knight is shocking to me
I might be fashionable late due to health problems that arose, but I still want to leave my little behind the scenes comment that I leave on songs I worked on.
So this song was originally written when I was going through a lot, I struggled with it, and just couldn't get some of the lines right. But when I got back to finishing this song for MotI and got the help from Alex for the clean up stage, I think this song ended up turning out so beautiful and just an absolutely stellar cap to the Hollow Knight Package.
So, since I'm late I'm not going to get into quite a deep dive on the lyrics, but I'll still talk about a few things I find neat.
Obviously, one of the main things of this song is the focus around "Light". The Radiance herself is for all intents and purposes the goddess of light. Her original followers, the moths, and all the various enemies in the game have all "seen the light" and become part of a sort of hive mind controlled by The Radiance. All of these voices of followers old and new are what the chorus is meant to be, drones who have no other thoughts than to worship the light. With all that said, the other aspect of the light is the burning force it brings, ultimately worshiping the light is short lived because none can survive it burning and all will lose their minds eventually.
One change Alex did that I think made it for the better was the ending of the song. In my original draft the song ended with Radiance realizing she is beaten and attempting to lash out in desperation before ultimately failing to The Knight. The chance to have it simply remain a power ballad for Radiance is the better choice for a package compared to the original idea of a full musical.
Another thing i'm going to just briefly touch on, "Like your brother failed"
Now, I'm not going to go into a full explanation of theorycrafting and my personal interpretation of what we see and are told in the games. But to keep it short, the use of brother here is not meant to be forcing a gender onto The Hollow Knight. It is used as a neutral term for a sibling that also happens to fit the rhyming scheme better. In addition, for the tldr theorycrafting for how I interpret the events of the game. Part of what made the "empty slate vessels" fail could potentially be that they have an identity of their own and gender can be a part of that. Seeing as The Hollow Knight ended up not being "perfect" as the Pale King wanted, it isn't a big stretch to believe that The Hollow Knight would develop their own identity which leads to use of traditionally male terms. But, that is all just how I personally interpret events of the game. And please remember, I myself and Non-Binary who does not identify as Male or Female, yet I myself still use They/Her. No two people interpret gender their own ways, and accusing people of being phobic because of a way they interpret a game isn't it and not something we should be trying to gatekeep.
Anyways, that went on longer than I wanted to, let's get into complements!
First and foremost, Carl. This song would not have the power and amazing feel to it without her voice and the training that she has. I will admit, when writing this song I was writing it with an operatic type of voice in mind to make Radiance feel like a God amongst Insects and Carl encapsulates that perfectly. Her training, the texture of her voice, and just the raw energy that she brings to the scene is absolutely beautiful and I don't personally know anyone who could bring quite the same energy, she is absolutely an Angel of Music for sure.
Of course, the God wouldn't feel quite the same without her followers. Alex, Emmy, Ian, Shiloh, and Uprising all did such a phenomenal job as the chorus, their blend of divine and bright just elevated the song so much.
And to bring both those elements together is the mixing team. Stelyos, Emmy, and Tom like always just bring these songs to a whole other level. I don't know how many ways I can sing their praise. They know how to take Insects and make them sound like Gods and every mix they work on is simply golden music to my ears.
Not to mention the art by Linda and Wisp. The art pieces that they made just bring the air of divinity to this song and fight. The dynamic poses, the brilliant lighting, everything about what they did just is a feast for the eyes.

When I saw hornet attack The Hollow Knight in the package, I screamed "radiance"
I've been trained chorally, so my ears are fine tuned to hear little mistakes in pieces like this! It has very few. I love it, thank you for creating it
One thing I have started to gain an appreciation in lyrical covers in as all different fitting interpretations for the voices, I usually just base what I think character's voices sound like off of the few sound bites like the radiance scream, but this is way better than what that voice would sound like.
I said this on the full package video, but I hope we can get a mix of Sealed Vessel that’s interrupted by Hornet and transitions to Radiance

I'm not gonna make a funny comment because I'm just blown away by Caaaarl's performance, she did such a good at mimicking what Radiance would sound like.
"You'd fight the war even knowing I've won?'' is a such a good line it scares me, because it's 100% true. Hallownest will still be a dead kingdom even if she's defeated.

Honestly, if only the Pale King decided to authorize worship of the Radiance instead of attempting to contain her, none of these depressing events would have had to have transpired, and Myla could've lived a peaceful life.
tho i would love to blame the pale king for this, if u get 2400 essence, the seer mentions that its anscestors worshipped it then, when the pale king came, they turned their backs to her, the radiance retaliated cuz of the moth tribe leaving her
but are we sure he didn't try? From what we've seen with Unn PK seems to be alr with bugs worshipping others.

I think for the second half some lyrics should've changed. For example:

Penitence and Piety the backbone of *my* society->Penitence and Piety the backbone of *society*
They all keep the rhyme, shift the flow to more match the music, and make it seem like The Radiance is getting more arrigant. Calling herself the flame, the light is her, and it's all society not just her society
I would've gone with "speak now my name" instead of "speaketh my name" as well, because "speaketh" is not supposed to be imperative, and she never uses old english endings otherwise anyway
Healing at the beginning is very strange, since I'm pretty sure that when entering the Radiance fight you get healed back to full
Radiance ended up doing opra while fighting the knight

I like how not only The Radiance is speaks like a royal, she is also noticably a moth in her lirics. "Praise the light"

If you think about it she really did win, she ended the hallownest destroying the kingdom outlasting the pale king, she killed all those who betrayed her using their husks as her servants. Ultimately very few people remember the kingdom at its height, with it being pretty much limited to the white lady, dung defender, and hornet. (not counting Quirrel because he does not remember)

I really love this theme. It's the best boss theme of the game imo.
That part near the very end (I believe it's 1:30 - 1:51 in the original track) is my favourite. So far, no one was able to make a remix or cover better than the original.

This is synonym to PERFECT!! I can't say anything that has already been said, only that I JUST LOVE THIS! Also, I like this is the only song in package that shows how the hollow Knight die, showing that Radiance is willing to do anything to kill it/them.
