The hollow knight being in denial about the fact that it's possible for everything that got sacrificed for it to be wasted and only then can the infection stop is genuinely so sad

That kind of fits with the thought that it felt unable to speak, think or feel due to wanting to make it's father proud, which led to it's "hollow", being flawed and thus uts failure.

one sad theory I've seen somewhere is the hollow knight had enough of himself left to understand the radiance was inside him and he tried stabbing himself to destroy the radiance but only ended up releasing more infection his body pulled itself back together a safeguard put in place so the vessel can't destroy itself meaning in trying to end the radiance he only made things worse

I love the turn on "Don't think you'll win". The first time Hollow says it, it sounds like a confident "I will continue to do my duty, dear sibling. You cannot stop me!" but the second time... it's Hollow desperately rooting for the Knight, but still hopeless. It wants you to win, but it doesn't think you can. The Radiance is too strong. Too bright...

Trapped forever, suffering from the infection, losing its home, failing its one and sole duty . . .
All because it loved its father.
Tbh, I always viewed it as THK wanting to save the Kingdom so badly that it was basically in denial it wasn't completely pure.

MAN, steel was not the person i would’ve anticipated to play the hollow knight but he does an absolutely PERFECT job capturing the utter ANGUISH of the character. the parts where he breaks out the growly and screamy voice is absolutely HEARTBREAKING, his voice is so powerful and really carries the emotion of the song!!! I also absolutely adore the parts where the chorus mirrors what the knight is saying with a slightly different twist on it, it shows such an interesting difference in the perspectives of the kingdom as a whole versus the much more PERSONAL feelings of the knight which direct themselves more towards the pale king and feeling they failed as a child. another knockout for this incredible package!
Well he did voice a god in a recent Kirb with Lyrics song by Juno.
Reminds me so much of megalovania, how much emotion was put into his words- This was not how I imagined this song being lyricised, but it was beyond what I had originally imagined. Truly a work of art befit of the hollow knight title!

Ahh, this song is rather infamous for making me pause mid fight and wonder if I was doing the right thing or had gotten the bad ending, and you’ve managed to convey that same emotion flawlessly! The symbol of the Radiance syncing up with the high end is brilliant, I can’t wait to see what the Radiance theme will sound like!

Gosh, using the chorus as (I assume) the monotone "voice" of the Knight, contrasted with the broken voice of their older sibling... Gave me shivers, it's just marvelous.

Judging from the final line referring to the sealed vessel as OUR hollow knight, they could also be something like the souls of the citizens of Hallownest.

Nothing but the choir of shades, knowing what will happen eventually... maybe even pure very quietly catching itself wanting to hum along before correcting, to show its imperfection
I would think mostly calm with a undercurrent of all this emotion because after all the Pure vessel is the hollow knight brought into the godseakers dream, like how Hornet is like do you haunt my dreams or I yours as just the kid of a higher being and Grim is like an "Honour seeker to attend your call, How grand a stage!, A charming ritual... a pleasure!" as he starts with bowing to the godseaker watching as she tries to attune and reach greater and greater heights.
though could also be more angry as you are also enchanting the infection while bypassing it's goal of keeping the infection inside as it gets attuned.
1. The way the Hollow Knight screamed no actually gave me chills, so much emotion into it was so surreal my god.

Man this part gives me chills. The fact that Hollow Knight, despite not being the perfect vessel, gave his all and yet it didn't matter in the end and he suffered all these years for nothing really hits hard
Most poetic thing, him literally having a desire to not fail is the reason he failed, they accidentally had a will, a will to fulfill one desire, literally only wanted one thing in its entire life, and it could never have it, specifically because they wanted it. Imagine living with only one wish and you having that wish means you will never fufil it. Their entire existence is marked by doom and failure

Some people think that the HK should have a monotone voice or no voice at all, but a voice of such raw emotion is perfect for HK.
The Pale Kings plan was inherently flawed from the start, you cannot have an emotionless being. But even despite the plan being flawed from the start, PK made it worse.
He shared moments with HK like at the end of path of pain and treated them like a child, building more emotions in the HK, yet it repressed them to protect everyone else’s (and their) lives.
Yet this was their downfall. This feeling of duty and purpose built up even more pain and suffering. No matter how much they held the emotions down so the Radiance couldn’t control them, they leaked and allowed the infection to spread.
So When the knight made its way into the HK’s deathbed and they knew that this was their end, they let all their held down emotions out in one last burst of life. A being defined by its lack of emotion actually being filled of emotion, it’s poetically depressing.
Beautifully made lyrics for a beautifully made song
Welp, I forgot to write this yesterday, but I'm still going to drop this here anyways.
This song is one of the songs I am the most proud of writing, between the emotions and rhymes it just all came together so nicely.
This song is one that I really wanted to make sure had the pain, regret, and suffering baked into it just right to convey the struggle of the Hollow Knight.
A fun fact, originally this song was written with the intent to be sung by the dreamers at the start, then between the Hollow Knight and The Knight for the majority, ending with Hornet watching at the end. Alex actually had the idea to instead spin the lyrics to let the Hollow Knight shine more and have the other parts sung by the chorus of Hollownest and I think that was a brilliant call because while some lyrics had one meaning when sung by the Knight, they take in a whole different spin when sung by the people of Hollownest and I love it.
Because I'm late I'm not going to get into some of the more deeper lyrics dives this time, sorry if you were looking forward to that x.x
I have to give major credit where it is due, without Steel voicing the Hollow Knight, I'm not sure they pure raw emotions would be at the forefront as he did a phenomenal job showing the tortured and suffering HK who just wanted to make their father proud and save the kingdom.
Everyone in the chorus did an amazing job bringing the erie factor and everyone there did a great job.
The art pieces, while more focused on a single point in the journey I think do a good job of capturing that moment and the light in the HKs eyes as they try their best to contain the light. Of course the second piece focusing on the HK struggling l, trying to do their duty while clearly suffering, the emotions conveyed are just phenomenal. Great job Flamia & Wisp, I love them so much.
Of course without the mixing team we wouldn't have the finished product we have now and I think they did just a perfect job blending all the voices and making it sound like all the correct emotions at all the different parts. Emmy and Tom, you two did a spectacular job as always, keep being amazing you guys!

this was PEAK his voice was actually crazy and showed the emotion the hollow knight felt when infected.
Only three songs from MOTI have ever gotten me to tear up. This is one of them
I love the somber tone of the chorus with "We will stop the spread... alone." Even though infection has consumed the kingdom, their makers are gone, and there's almost nobody left to protect, the Vessels/Void/whoever you decide the chorus represents still decide they will stop the infection. No allies, no help coming, against impossible odds. And as the Hollow Knight falls further into despair, their repetition becomes more determined. Almost as if, "in the end the light is in their eyes", *so* "infection must end", and "we still stop the spread." The other vessels aren't stopping the infection to please their father, but to avenge their sibling, and to make sure nobody else will suffer the same fate ever again. It's a very interesting interpretation of the game's events I haven't fully considered before.

Actually, I did interpret as him talking to the knight, but not as in he is going to kill him, but telling him to just give up completely as he has had the infection already and is sure that the knight can’t handle it

Every instance of "I still failed in the end!" makes my heart squeeze in ALL the right ways. I always react to this lyric specifically whenever I have this playing.
That "NO!" was so good like wtf steel
I just love how Steel connoted the "Don't think you'll win" line. No arrogance or self-confidence like you'd expect from a final boss, but instead sadness and a feeling of impending doom as the Hollow Knight is just your matured sibling and from a purely technical view should be better than you in any way. They failed so why should you, the tiny version of them, be successfull? The Hollow Knight believed to be the perfect vessel, but failed in the end, just like everything else did, and so you, a mere clone of thousands, lucky to even have come somewhere after being given life, should face the Hollow Knight, seal the infection and save whatever is left of the kingdom?
This song is so good, you can hear in their voice that they aren't mad at the Pale king, but at themselves for failing the duty, the hollow knight think's their fault that the infection is spreading when in reality is that the radiance was just too much powerful for any other being (other than the void)
You guys did an amazing job capturing the melancholy feeling of the fight. After all, this isn’t a fierce battle to the death, this is a mercy killing. Looking forward to the full package!
2:28 is the absolute best part of this song. As the chorus (which I imagine is made of the shades, and the knight), talks about their similarities, the hollow knight is silent
When they diss the king, the knight gets this burst of determination, shouting over the chorus, and proclaiming their unyielding love. Such a shame they could not continue
I always enjoyed this song. It’s no triumphant battle, but instead you’re fighting a broken sibling, torn down over countless years, stuck in its own failure. A pained soul, brought to a merciful end
I love that the chorus in the end seems as if it's not just a chorus. Its all the voices of all those the player's knight has met, speaking FOR them as they relieve their sibling of their duty.
I think this has been the best performance Steel has ever delivered on this channel: I could hear the anguish and sadness in voicing a character who's struggling until the end bound by their duty while fighting the Infection inside at the same time.
All in all, this whole musical package has been wonderful so far. And i'm not just talking about the lyrics, but the editing and artworks as well! Keep up the good work!

Steel brings the sealed vessel to life the voice he brings is beautiful defining what the Hollow knight is.
Dont know if anyone noticed but at 1:46, the quote "but the infection still lives" turns orange while the Hollow Knight keeps singing, meaning possibly that the Radiance itself is singing that bit

I really love the difference between the part with two lyrics, how one states the facts as they are of the wyrm sending them to the abyss and the mother birthing them but hollow lets his emotions slip stating they were saved and loved since they were the only one to actually experience the wyrm and pale lady's love even when that was what made them impure later on
I don't think the white lady had anything to do with the hollow knight becoming broken because when she tells you the hollow knight became broken due to an "idea instilled"she didn't seem to be talking about herself plus we only ever see the hollow knight with the pale king and the pale king was being fatherly to him (path of pain end cutscene)so I think it's more likely it was just the pale king that loved the hollow knight or at least was somewhat fatherly to them

I am in TEARS for such a beautiful cover... the melancholy, the absolute BEAUTY of it all. This is WHY i love hollow knight, not just for the game and lore, but how people are so DEDICATED, and using their talent on such a game. SERIOUSLY, look how much you grew! i've been listening since your Zero 2 cover, and THIS?! PERFECTION. Words can not DESCRIBE how stunning this is. I really love this..
All of these hollow knight songs are done beautifully, the lyrics work really well with the music to help bring out the emotion. I’m gonna be low-key devastated if none of these songs end up on Spotify

I love the fact that The hollow Knight’s Lyrics show emotion “Loved by our mother” while the other voice lacks it “Born from our mother”
Edit) That could also be the neglect of their mother because all vessels except the hollow knight were “cast down” so it would be that they weren’t loved by their mother.
A better pair of lines that show the Hollow knight’s emotion is “There can’t be another”/“There can be another” may come from the fact that the hollow knight didn’t want to be a failure to his father (whom they had probably developed feelings for as we see at the end of the path of pain (nice reference with that btw)). However later in the song and in the actual fight he realizes this when they sing “Father see your broken child” and in the fight starts attacking themself and using more infection based attacks. Whereas the other voice always knew he couldn’t do it. Probably because the other voice just walked through an infected crossroads to get there which is an obvious sign that the hollow knight couldn’t contain the infection so there needed to be another (vessel) in order to contain the infection and in other endings end it for good.
As you can tell i am a massive fan of this game and just yesterday i got the pure heart achievement.

The whole contrast between what I consider to represent THK and The Knight is beautiful. The bias of how Hollow refers its parents and the lack of it in the knight, the emotional tone and the monotone, cold tone clashing, etc.
I think the "there can/CANT be another" is the contrast of how the knight and THK want to end the infection (in dream no more at least). "Another" as in "another solution". THK doesn't seem any other option but to contain the source, the Knight want to end the problem by its root.

I like to think one of the reasons HK didn't want to fail and fought their sibling (besides being controlled by a literal moth) was because they knew that the knight would only absorb the radiance and take their place, and they didn't want anyone else to suffer what they did
This was great! You did a really great job reflecting the hollow knights desire to make his father proud, the suffering the they went through. It catches this melacholy, this tragedy so well. This is by far my favorite song, both of the original OST and of your adaptations.

2:44, This is incredible, it conveys how the Hollow Knight feels of his parents despite the fact that they bassically raised him just to be chained up, and it shows how he failed by believing his parents loved him
Well they themselves are kind of to blame, especially the pale King who basically sabotaged his own plan by treating the hollow Knight as a son up until its imprisonment with the radiance.

The amount of chills that I got at 4:53 is insane, best lyrics for this song by a long shot.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!! This was the song everyone was waiting for, by far the most cinematic battle and song in the entire soundtrack. It's perfect musical material to follow the course of this scene and battle.
The chorus beckoning the Vessel to the Hollow Knight, urging it forward in its journey despite the knowledge of what's to come... and then the battle begins. Immediately the Hollow Knight screams out, shouting its only mission, its failure, the torment of years failing to seal in the infection, even now it still clouding its mind.
But finally, a moment of clarity. With another scream, it pulls away from the infection, fighting back, solemnly apologizing for its failure, reciting its pessimistic cries, wanting all this to end and yet not truly with the Vessel should continue its mission. But finally in its torment, it falls, the chorus only hoping for the brave, selfless Hollow Knight, who gave everything to stop the infection, to finally rest.
The scene is silent, watching as the Vessel is sealed in in its place, unable to voice its own thoughts on the matter. The chorus doesn't continue until it, like the viewer, is sealed out. Only voicing a quiet goodbye, and end to this sorry tale.

"I still failed in the end!" It is perfect. It seems that the hollow knight tries to convince himself that the plan failed, but in the end he realizes that he was the only one who failed.
I love how at the end of the first section THK says what they think while the chorus says what the truth actually is

The last time I was so touched by anything about this game is when I learned THK crawls and does this little weak swing towards the very end of the battle. Seeing Stelyos in the title I already knew I will be emotionally destroyed in the best way, but this... I was afraid I'd be overhyped for this song but it is way beyond everything I could imagine
this is such a great cover! The almost religious start, the pain in the voice of the hollow knight with the maliconic chorus in the background perfectly captures the true essence of the fight against the best character of the game and a really tragic character in general.
I can't put into words how good this is.
It's the perfect ending to a fantastic series of songs for an outstanding game. All of which would fit in a series or movie of the same game.
That and it's not over. These songs inspire determination than in all honestly makes me want to play Silksong even more!

This is genuinely so well made. The Hollow Knight's screams throughout the song really show how much pain it is in... the singing of everyone is absolutely magnificent... just, in general, I love this so much.
AAAAAA this made my day holy crap!! Of COURSE it was Steel!
I literally need to add to this cause it came to me after I listened to the song a few more times, but everything after the "NO" hits me extra hard, so many good lines, like, "Father left his broken child alone" and, "My cup runneth over. Please let this be over" and the full "No mind to think, no will to break" etc. personalized for the Hollow Knight. And the second utterance of "We all fail in the end. I still failed in the end!" DESTROYS me.
Incredible, takes the original track and makes it even more emotional.
I love that " No will to break. No mind to think. No voice to cry my suffering" sort of talks about how the knight is shackled by the radiance and the infection. JUST. THIS SCRATCHES MY BRAIN IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS! THE GROWLS. THE KEY CHANGES. THE- AAAAAAA. JUST AWESOME.
I got chills, the pure emotions in his voice were truly wonderful

I think the characterization of the music is incredible, it is not an epic song from the end of history, it is a melancholic and suffering song, perfectly reflecting the Hollow Knight

Absolute perfection. Sealed vessel has always been my favourite of the hollow knight soundtrack, and this incredible version has rendered me speechless. Steel did a perfect job portraying the pain and anguish of the hollow knight, and the chorus just enhanced the emotion and almost brought me to tears. ❤

Those lines in the middle were Hollow Knight quotes what was said when you visited the Birthplace- that broke me. It made me cry more than fighting the boss in game did
I don't know if my comment ever gonna be noticed but I wanna say some thoughts from my mind which this video gave me.
I love how MOTI put the personality of The Hollow Knight in this version. It knows that it did everything it was able to save the kingdom and thinks that if "The Perfect Vessel" couldn't stop the infection nobody can ("we all fail in the end/I still failed in the end"). And it has some delusions as well ("Saved by our Father/Loved by our Mother/I cannot falter/There can't be another"). I also love the fact that despite all the suffering The Sealed Vessel still has love for it's father ("Father see your broken child") and calling out to him to tell that it failed and the feeling of sorry of causing disappointment hits so hard. It DOES wants the torment to stop but also wants to fulfill it's duty depite the failure.
*PERSONAL POV HERE*
What I find the most relatable is that my parents did wanted me to be a GOOD (NOT TOP) student. They DO love me but to me just like in The Sealed Vessel's case I had idea instilled (I thought that if I study hard I'll make them happy which actually happened) and kinda blinded by love (even though I was always indeed a dreamer type), and I thought my only duty was to study in my life so I tried and went through school, university and I got my degree. After I had an office job I wanted to start my own dream but when COVID came my job was becoming so frustrating that I felt taken advantage of my hard work, and my motivations almost entirely drowned if it wasn't for my friends and my gf. (For the records I've always been an ideologist and my parents both realists which made me depressed sometimes/mostly)
In my eyes The Hollow Knight is the best representation of my almost-fulfilled completely-broken self after thinking that if I had no friends only my realist parents who told me "this is life" and I'll just wait 'till I die. Don't get me wrong, I have a positive view on death so I don't mind it and I'm building up my spiritual ways as well (which also has some nice connection to The Essence in the game)
The Choir I was wondering who is singing when this part 2:35 came in I started thinking if we hear The Siblings (including Hornet since EmilyGo is in there), The Void or MAYBE (but not likely) The Knight speaking for the other ones. No matter which one this makes this version even more of a personal conversation since they say "walked through different paths of pain/but still we are the same", "the plan to alter/there can be another"
And at the ending where they tell The Hollow Knight to "rest now fallen child/slumber, end your trial"-->"you can calm down now, you did your best, now your time has come". The almost last line: "End your fight our Hollow Knight" is interesting becuase it KINDA speaks to Both of our characters, The To-be Ex Hollow Knight and the To-be Hollow Knight.
*BONUS THOUGHT*
On Story-wise I love the message that the infection must be defeated from the inside and the Void itself was not enough to the stop the Radiance. It needed a little push by the Dream Nail which has The Essence to help. And since the King didn't know about this he thought The Void was the only hope to lock away the light in a void body inside a Void egg. But he was so so wrong.
I heard this somewhere "If you can defeat the enemy from the inside, the enemy from the outside can't hurt you."
So many spiritual and emotional messages in this game. I love it so much.
BROO, The vocals on here are CRAZY GOOD (especially THK'S, emotional and well done)
ohhh this slapped. this utterly slapped. personally, I remember steel best from his work as sans, and *goddamn* did he deliver here too. the hollow knight may have no voice to cry suffering but goddamn do they have a voice to sing it! and the lyrics, augH! utterly heartbreaking!
I'm going to be listening and relistening to the full hk bytes package so SO many times I think. (I've already been listening to everything out so far quite often, and I suspect this is about to join the many, many often replayed songs from y'all.)

I absoultely LOVE the growl in his voice and screaming. Didn't expect steel to play him but he did he perfectly.
I have to say, my favorite part of this whole song had to be the chorus during the “I still failed” just such pure emotion from the hollow knight, saying the lines from someone who would love their mother, while the chorus (discarded vessels I assume) say “born from our mother” they wouldn’t really know what it meant to be loved. The melody during it is so well done too, with that final “NOOO!” At the end just making it all the better. Amazing work everyone who contributed to this.

When you realize that the Hollow Knight's desire to save everyone was what let the Radiance possess it too.
The Hollow Knight's mentality of "I know I failed but I cannot let another suffer as I have" is perfect.
I know many others have mentioned this but the part of "No will to break, no mind to think, no voice to cry MY suffering!" Is just such a powerful sentence.
You know it's kind of ironic, that the Pale King after casting so many imperfect vessels into the abyss cause they didn't have the specific trait he needed, was the one that grew too close to the Pure Vessel and accidentally gave them emotions, a mind to think, a will to break and they both grew too close to each other and in the end... The Radiance won, the infection spread, and the Guilt of condemning all those thousands of children to the abyss and the fact it was all for nothing cause the plan didn't work was probably too much for the Pale King, and he probably... committed suicide. And then a vessel came to Hollownest heeded by the call of their fallen sibling and was able to seal the infection and defeat the Radiance, not by being completely empty, but instead having a will so strong they were able to overcome the Radiance.
This game man....
2:27 this part is my favorite, gives me heavy “The Plagues” vibes from The Prince of Egypt, and I love that song so i’m having a certified jam at this

That's one of the reasons I loved Megalovania so much too; we got an entire Musical of Sans as the gentle and smooth voice... then suddenly the man is literally roaring at us.
