I've been a Fender Player for about 15 years. I finally decided to get a Gibson and the Classic was my choice because of the slim 60 neck and push pull options. I absolutely love it. Tone is great on its own or with pedals. Does not disappoint. Many of my friends that get to play it will always comment on how great it sounds.
Nice one alberto
I also own one. Also got it for the push pulls and the beautiful honeyburst. However I didn't give up on fender and my telecaster player series is still my first choice guitar
@@ebahtimaikata I cant agree more. My #1 is a 2004 Natural Telecaster w/ a quarter pound pickup at the bridge.
Just picked up one for $1699 it sounds amazing!
@@denniswilson9025 Nice! That's a great deal! Rock on.
Great that Gibson "Pleks" all their guitars now. That's a $300 OPTION from Sweetwater. :) I had a 1973 Deluxe like this that I paid $600 for back then, modded the hell out of and it was stolen after a gig in 1979. Broke my heart and I gave up playing for over 40 years. When I saw this I started to cry. My wife bought it for me for Christmas from Sweetwater...$2,200! Chops are indeed rusty as hell but I'm up for it. :)
Get em tiger! I have nerve damage in my left hand and my left arm has been paralyzed, twice! By the grace of God I can play today. Congratulations on a killer guitar and an even better wife! If I can do it, anyone can.
I have the 2020 Classic in ebony. It actually tops my 2000 Classic (even with '57 pickup mod), which I thought would be impossible. These newer models really are a joy to play. If you're in the market for a NEW LP, snag one up now because they are getting to the point of being criminally expensive.
I also have the 2020 Classic in Ebony, It still is heavy with the weight relief but I love Les Paul's. :)
I too have a 2020 ebony classic but mine is just under 9lbs.
Yeah, mine is just under ten lbs.
What about the newer one that they drilled holes to make it lighter I’m thinking to get one..I have ES335 and ES339
A total surprise!! I cannot believe how good this guitar is. It is my best playing Les Paul and looks and feels great. Mine is the olive green finish.
I bought this guitar 2 years ago (2021) and it has become my #1 Les Paul albeit with a couple of mods. The stock pickups were not to my liking, although they weren't bad per se, I find the 61 series pickups to be a little too muddy and lack note definition, so I changed the pickups to my good old favorite Dimarzio Super Distortions and had my tech remove the circuit board (which I call a tone sucker) and rewire the guitar with CTS pots, bumblebee caps and treble bleeds on both pickups without the push/pull coil taps, phase or bypass which I never use on a Les Paul. I have other guitars for single coil tones. I wanted a ""Classic"" in the truest '70's sense of the word and now this guitar screams Classic! I also top wind the strings and use Ernie Ball Regular RPS 10-46 strings for much, much better tuning stability. Of course I've kept the original electronics in a box and they're put away for safekeeping. This is a great guitar and I love the neck profile. BTW, even with the weight relief my guitar weighs in at a heavy 9lbs 10oz! ... Great video! 🎸
Damn, your playing deserves a comment of its own. You killed it!
It sounds like an extremely versatile guitar. I love your method of demo. So many others get it wrong!
The Classic is indeed a classic. And I'm a 60's neck fan, myself. Nice axe.
Jimmy Page would agree!
I bought this exact guitar a month ago and love it! This demo video is very helpful in showcasing all features and different sound settings. Thank you!
In November I landed a 2019 translucent cherry for 1200! I love it. That bypass push pull confused me so much! I’m glad it’s not defective and yours does it too. Can’t wait til you hit 50k and and I win that beautiful green Paul!
Excellent, I’m proud to have a Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960 (from 2002 I think)with tulip tuners & burstbuckers 🙌🏼
Huh. Mine came with the classic brown case. THANK YOU!! I knew I had a very cool guitar. Mine is exactly what you you're showing right here.
Bought a Classic for my very first Les Paul. I got an awesome one too. Burstbucker pickups in these are great. Trans cherry photographs poorly. It's a really deep red and the wood grain can be killer underneath.
I never wanted a Black Les Paul, but a dealer in town had an ebony LP Classic that totally won me over ( I usually play Fender style guitars). Sounds and plays great!
I just got this about 2-3 weeks ago. I love mine!!! I think it plays better then my Standard Sweetwater Lemonburst, and that guitar kicks ass!
you guys should check out the jerry Cantrell epiphone in white , those Fishman fluence pickups are out of this world . the guitar is beautiful and it sounds and plays even better than it looks .
Nice flows and your own style dynamics on that jam..love to hear! Impressive..word up
I just knew you were going to love the Classic. Mine is a 22' in Heritage Cherry Sunburst. The plain top is beautiful in it's own way with really nice grain on the one piece maple top. My pickups read 7.7 neck and 7.8 bridge but with bypass/blower switch on - 8.0!
I really love mine. Ugh, I think I might like it a little more than my Standard. Plus, I believe I paid around $1600 for it in 2020. It was a blem from Sweetwater because there was an area around the poker chip that appeared to not be fully buffed. All it took for me to remedy that was applying some Mother's Mag & Wheel metal polish. I only use light pressure. After a few minutes of rubbing, I let it dry, then hit it (wet it) with some guitar polish rub that mush until it starts to end up on the microfiber cloth that I'm constantly flipping. It came out 100%!
I LOVE those Burstbuckers that are on my Classic, Standard, and SG.
I have always been a fender and prs guy. I picked up a ebony lp classic and absolutely love it. Not a fan of push pull but I just don't use them. In love with my classic les paul would be an understatement, I put the thing down
I've played or owned several Gibson Les Paul models from a studio to custom shop. I bought one of these to add to my collection and I completely agree with your review...at least mine is extremely well built... perfect... and the 61 pickups are on the very top of my list for the best sounding pickups ever. I have these same pickups on my Gibson SG 61 reissue. They are extremely clear, warm, bright, and punchy... incredible. This cherry finish in the light is beautiful too. Not sure why in the world someone would want a heavier non weight relieved guitar than this other than a custom shop. Custom shop picks expensive mahogany that is very light compared to a standard or other cheaper Les Paul...so they are fairly light without having to weight relieve them. So buying a standard non weight relief to get better tone is a placebo. Tone doesn't get any better than on the classic. The coil tapping on Gibson really is a joke though next to PRS guitars. Gibson really needs to up it's game in that department. Nice video review!
I have 2 LP Classics... my fave LP!
I have a 22 Ebony, and a 22 Limited Edition Faded Flamed Iced Tea... (which is massively resonant compared to the Ebony)
That bypass push pull works well if you cut some volume and tone for your rhythm playing. Just pop it out for a brighter and louder lead tone. Its nice to set and forget the volumes rather than fidgeting with it while playing. I also thought it was a weird feature at first but surprisingly its my most used push pull.
Yeah, I'm still discovering all the options on mine with the push, pull pots. I guess you have to mess around with it to get that preferred tone. I love mine. It's almost too fancy for me. 😂
I also use the bypass a lot since I like to apply the distortion to the bridge humbucker's unmodified tone.
@@ebahtimaikata right! it gives you maximum cut and tightness, its like a built in boost if you know how to use it.
Great review, What is the difference between the Classic and the Traditional?
That color really pulls me in. Beauty
Those Zebra pickups look great on that color
I have a traditional which I love and a studio which I don't like too much. Should I trade it in for a classic?
Beautiful Guitars , I have an Old Classic that I love to play .
I've been saving up for something like this one. That price point makes it a very interesting option. Hopefully I can make it happen this year!
Great guitar, let us know if you pick one up! Thanks for watching
very interesting because you can get something 10x better for half the price by any other brand
Love your work pushing this guitar through its paces.
Tempted by this over a 60s standard. The QC on the ones I’ve tried are grim though compared to standard but I like the slightly more cutting sound and the feel of the neck in my hand. Only £200 more for the standard though…
If I remember right it's basically the same as the 60s standard with extra switching capabilities and uncovered humbuckers. I'll have to go review my notes lol. Also, the red is really sharp on the classic. I think value wise there's a "Marquee" premium for it being the Standard, but yea go with what feels right!
I have this specific Gibson model and it is terrific!
@3:40 yes, it's basically the easiest way to go for solos.
Own one and it is great. Has become my favorite guitar out of all the ones I have 🤟🤟
Is this model discontinued? In shops is only available ebony color.
Thanks for showcasing this awesome guitar! Sorry of this is off subject as its about the 80's Yamaha SL 550s: studio lord. Have you ever had the opportunity to play one and your thoughts? Thank you!
Honestly, i have no idea whats wrong, if maybe my ears are just terrible or if i just dont know EQ, i was gifted one of these and for the life of me I cannot hear any difference when I try and use the coil tapping. Im somewhat new to guitar so I cant claim to know a lot, but I certainly dont hear whats coming out of that guitar in my amp! The Phase and "im louder" functions work well, its only the volume push pulls that im having trouble with.
❤ Gibson Lespaul Classic
Nice Playing! Great Video, thanks a million.. I may get myself a Honey burst version. So crazy that bypass bridge pickup feature! This is basically Jimmy Pages set up, he loves his coil splits for that tele sound!
I own this and the fender telecaster and you can not replicate the tele sound with the coil splits. Neither you can replicate the Les Paul sound with the telecaster.
I have this exact guitar. It’s great. However I am ripping out the circuit board and pickups. Putting in 50s wiring and some Mojotone PAFs.
So i just got this guitar on Monday, and I'm wondering if its normal for the guitar to get really loud when pulling out the bridge bypass knob. I was playing using the bridge pickup (volume on 1) and when i pulled that knob everything got really loud
Yes the bridge bypass puts the output straight through the bridge pickup to the output, bypassing the electronics altogether. In fact it's even louder and more direct sounding then the regular bridge on volume 10. Thanks for watching
this is a really Guitar. I have the 2022 Classic Ebony... Any suggestion on pickup height for the 61s? These pickups behave completely differently than any other I know...
One way to look at this LP Classic is to compare it to an Original Line 60s Standard with the pickup covers removed and switching options. Same guitar though, albeit with weight relief. The 50s Standard and the Deluxe are another example of re-purposing the same body and neck.
My 2021 Classic in Green Ocean Burst is shockingly resonate. Great guitar and mine does have the locking grovers, not the standard, so I don't know if that was something exclusive to the Sweetwater Green Ocean Burst.
Thank you for a great review! I'm in the market to purchase one, just like the one you reviewed! Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for watching! Great choice, you can buy it here: www.zzounds.com/a--3979398/item--GIBLPCS00
Let me know how you like it!
Hello, I have the exact same model and it feels a lot heavier than 3.9kg.. are you sure about your weight measurements?
They definitely can range quite a bit which is normal, this was on the lighter side - thanks for watching!
You are killer player, very, good! That's how you do it.
I have a supreme LP . Beautiful guitar
Nice
Really torn between a classic or a standard 60's. Big differences being the weight relieved body on the classic and more figuring on the top of the standard. I've seen newer classics as low as $1500 on reverb which is a steal. Tone-wise I've always found weight relieved bodies to be a little thinner in the lows compared to solid Les Pauls, but it's pretty negligible.
Love this red classic’s look but frustrating its a 60’s slim neck only. Come on Gibson and make a 50’s neck version!
Dang, just bought an LP Modern from zZounds and now here's this beauty, and of course I gotta have it.😆
It's in stock lol! Thanks for watching: www.zzounds.com/a--3979398/item--GIBLPCS00?siid=258286
Good Lord, what another BEAUTIFUL AXE!
I love the color!
Love the out of phase option!
Just been offered one of these used but mint condition two years old for £1175. Too good to turn down?
You never know what could be wrong with a used guitar if you can't see it for yourself and play it.
Great tone. Great blues jam!
Awesome Video. You never let me down...!
I'm sure the answer to this exists all over the internet, but in anutshell, is it the push/pull pots and the pickups that make a classic different from a standard? I've never been clear on how they differ.
Nowadays yes, it's part of the "Modern Collection" while the Standard is part of the "Original Collection." Basically the classic is a 60s Standard with uncovered humbuckers and extra circuitry as far as I can tell. I think Standard just as a brand value costs more, kind of a marquee thing? Also weight relief on the classic, none on the standard...if I remember right. Thanks for watching!
I'd love to trade my 2013 les paul signature t for one of them...love the red
Groovy guitar. I give it a solid thumbs up 👍🏻
Very interesting conclusion in comparison to the "Modern". Thank you so much for another great video!!!
I have a classic les paul in green ocean burst, very cool les paul with no wieght relief at 10lbs but still one of my favorite les pauls next to my Slash version les paul. Cool vid thanks for the demo
Is that cool backing track available somewhere?
ojalá , puebes algun dia una Les Paul goldtop p90 classic 2018, es la anterior a la goltop standard p90 50s, saludos y felicitaciones por tu canal
those 61s sound bright
Best guitar EVER!!!!
I'd love to play it and to be able to play it like you. :)
Thanks for watching, I appreciate that!
I have one of these. I didn’t like the the 61s so I put regular 50s Burstbuckers without all the switching and covers. Much better now.
Great reviews and you're not irritating like that Troggly dude
People who make these videos about the Gibson Les Paul Modern and Classic models, don't understand that, when you have push-pull pots, with these options, you have to have a PCB because the electronics are a lot more complex. It's not a lower-level thing, or a cheap alternative or any of that. A PCB is a requirement for more complex circuits. Trust me, I do electronics, including building robots. Hand-wiring is not an option and you wouldn't want it for this feature.
Excellent video brother.
Loe the Red color!
MyFavorite Guitar, merci.
Been a strict Fender fan for may years because of the quality the heritage and price point and sworn to never own a Gibson because of the price an over all reasoning of 1000 dollar Epiphone is way hetter quality then a Gibson at that price point. UNTIL i went to guitar center in Nashville an seen this exact guitar USED an thought maybe ill get a deal. Dealed with the manager for 2 straight days till i got my price point and brought it home. May just been the “honey moon effect” when getting a new year but i haven’t put it down since i got it.
Mine weighs in at just over 10lbs... but I actually love the heft...just feels like a superb instrument in my hands....and smells sooo good too!
Can't beat the smell haha, I know!
I just got one today..that will make 21 guitars…ebony black..
i want a cherry SB classic
I know it's definitely not the point of this demo, but I like that case a lot.
My first lp classic which came with black case had a defect in it's finish. The replacement came with light brown case... 😢
i have that one
i love that cherry red ❤
Darn good pickin' kid!👍
50k otw!
You really think that there are coil tap circuits in there? No, there is no coil tap. Just look at the PCB (or at your multimeter‘s resistance read out). The coil split is running through a capacitor. This has nothing to do with coil tap.
nice👍
Gibson DITCH the circuit board!!!!!!!! It´s the only reason I don´t buy this guitar, I want to be able to use any pickup just like in the standards.
My biggest frustration is why doesn’t this come with Jumbo frets? It’s the 21st century.
God Les Paul’s sound so “farty “clean ..
Get that great FART tone!!!
💨 💨 💨 and so heavy, not to mention tuning problems, fat frets, less fretboard, gotta play them like a feather to sound in tune…
Don’t know why they go for so much money tbh !
Great rock sound but they are a relic of the past these days ..
Buy an epiphone / a copy .. all the fun and all the problems with only 1/5th of the price ! 🤷🏻♂️
Dude that is because you have got to roll back the volume to about 6 to get a clear clean on many Gibsons. Common knowledge , sounds like someone needs to school you on how to correctly operate LPs lol That and a trip to the ear doctor are in order.
Lol, "correctly operate les pauls." Dude it' a guitar not a particle accelerator.
@@joevoolo8532 In your hands it is just guitar but for a real player you damn right it is a particle accelerator!
@@jhrdrake7205 Lol. Oh. I guess that must be it because I tried turning the volume on my LP down to 6 like you said and it still sounded the same just a little quieter but now that I know that it's because I'm not a real player it all makes sense.
@@joevoolo8532 If it sounded the same then your ear is shite. It is common knowledge that turning town the volume on a guitar with higher output pickups will clean up the sound and make it more articulate letting the actually note be heard rather than the distortion. I have many Gibsons and that is exactly what happens, I never play it at 10 volume. Problem is that inexperienced players go full bore distortion because they think it covers up mistakes and anything less to their ears sounds like crap. What sounds like inarticulate crap is distortion at level 10.
Epiphone standard sounds way better than that
Just an FYI... your playing is good... but the recording quality in your videos is not good. Maybe get a good studio engineer to help with that. Again I like your playing and reviews... just not the recording quality...
So many reviews here just sound like promotional material written by AI paid for by Gibson… 🤔
Dude I got a LP classic for about the price of a Fender Pro II, I got an SG Standard for LESS than that price. Gibson slaggers just like to mouth off, I was one until I actual realized I could get them at a very reasonable price and started using them regularly. You can get them at great prices on holiday sales. No more slaggin from me, a great Gibson is worth every damn penny, cool thing is I never have to pay full price because I keep on the lookout for sales!
Congratulations you have just figured out the secret of social media.
@@joevoolo8532 I always suspect but thought I was just parnoid tbh. But it really seems to be the case everwhere on SM. Must be an army of contracted shills in some 'CommentCentres' over in India/China then... or its all AI i suppose now hey? fucked up..
@@joevoolo8532 like tbh who ever bothers to write up a positivite review when they buy a guitar theyre happy with IRL? ud be too busy playing it. Ppl only review stuff when its shit and they wanna complain!
I think LPs sound like shit clean anyone else?
What’s that weird tone that permeates with Humbucker pickups.. I’ve read somewhere audio people referring to HB sound having “ phase issues” due to the double coil ?? That HBs “ double the fundamental note but cut the highs “ anyone know is that accurate .. is that why they tend to sound mushy and don’t cut in a band context - too much bass and reduced highs ?? Anyone else find that ? Heavy as shit too.. even Jimmy Pages live sound wasn’t that great tbh and he was an LP master 🤷🏻♂️
No offense Nial but if you think LPs sound like shit clean you don't know what you are doing. LPs have a spectacular clean tone that can sound super vintage, Listen to Creedance Clearwater Revival, yup Fogerty regularly used/uses LP clean sounds. Look up some live vids. The LP is universally seen as a distortion only guitar which is sad. Hell look up Les Paul himself playing. It is a spectacular clean Jazz instrument. Adjust those tone knobs and you can even do surf and country incredibly well. Granted many LPs are crap overall but you get a good one and WOW. I prefer them clean.
The guy sounds like a bad Robbie Krieger… I think that guitar is actually hindering his abilities 😆
Jeff Beck said when he played Gibsons he just “sounded like everyone else “ JEFF BECK!
The guitarists guitarist.
Gibsons slow you down , they are seriously overpriced and the majority won’t stay in tune .
$3000-$5000 for a guitar that most likely WILL NOT STAY IN TUNE!!
Save your money and buy a PRS or something else.
I am primarily a Strat/Tele player but that is nonsense and my Gibsons stay in tune way better than my Fenders. It is a different animal, just like Gretsch but to slag it is nonsense and ignorance.
Now if you want to sound generic and like everyone else including Nickelback PRS gets my vote for that. Incredible fit and finish but booooooooooooooooooring.
Нету у нас в стране магазов с такими гитарами, а в которых есть меня не пустят. Тк я бомж. У нас говно сервис - только для тех у кого есть бабло. Такчто надо за границу щупать( к сожалению.
У нас только танки и мужики в военной технике
Stupid way to show how the knoib functions work... NOT A WORD...
