- MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg is known as one of the premier California State Parks. Today was my first visit and I see why it is so highly regarded. I also cooked some
Shakshuka, a Tunisian egg and tomato dish. And I checked the status of a small engine maintenance job I did a few days ago.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

Ps. Your flag is not offensive. Everyone has their own flavor in life. That’s what makes us all unique in this world. May God continue to bless you in your travels.
Shakshouka is a dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, olive oil, peppers, onion and garlic. It’s spiced with cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper. The name comes from the Tunisian word for shaken up. Popular throughout North Africa and Middle East. It’s standard breakfast and lunch in Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt. Thanks Scott. I learned a new dish.
More than likely of Jewish descent
Thank you for sharing ☁️😊
Because of you, all the men I’m my life are getting two bottles of Yellow Bird for Christmas. I ordered directly from the company.
I hope you get yourself some too
I have it on my November 1 grocery list, for my daughter. But I’ll try it too.
Yes Scott always listen to the experts, tyre tread is vital and a safety element that should never be overlooked.
Yes, especially on the front tires. Because a blowout could make you lose control in a very bad way.
Noooo don't get rid of the sasquatch flag!!! that's one of my favorite things that you have in your van!!!
Beautiful view at the park, thanks for taking us along.
Thanks once again for the beautiful video of the ocean. Just stunning and so peaceful looking. Oh, and I'm not offended at all by the sticker 😊
Thanks Karen
You found such a nice spot!!! And your food looks fantastic! That was a perfect day!! ☀️ 🌲 🌳 ☁️
The flag is not offensive, in my opinion. What a beautiful park. It's the perfect place to sit with a good cup of coffee, look out over the ocean, and listen to the water splashing against the rocks. Thanks for taking us along.
This is awesome! My favorite Static Scott with a new video!!! 😻😻😻😻😻
I've lived in Fort Bragg for over 20 years. You haven't even scratched the surface when it comes to local beaches! I've just sold my house and I'm looking to buy a van of my own. Perhaps we'll meet out on the road someday. FYI: The Purity Market (Franklin & Alder) has much better prices on produce than Safeway, usually about half the price.
My favorite videos is the ones you do when it is raining! Would love to see a long one of you on the coast when a nice big storm is happening, and seeing how well you do! You are so smart, I believe you would be so prepared, lol!
Hi Scott I love the views so beautiful refreshing, thank you for your awesome videos! Have a wonderful weekend!🙏❤️🙏
Thanks for the update, Scott! I love that flag! I'd be interested to see what youre working on. *** That's the fun part of Shakshuka - how customizable it is!
OMG my ground beef seasoned with salt pepper dried minced onion Italian seasoning garlic paste yellow bell pepper 3 slices of a good sharp cheddar sour cream rolled up burrito was delicious but adding YELLOW BIRD Jalapeño took it to the next level. THX
Scott. Now a fan of yellow bird, for my van travels. This senior citizen. Yeah !!!
Great to hear it!
How hot is it on a scale of 1-10?
To be honest I didn’t outright taste it. I’m not jalapeño fan. I use good amount of it and I did not taste the heat but the flavor was great. I suggest try the sample size bottle that is what I did. Hope this helps.
Another great video Scott the egg 🥚 dish looked yummy 😋 love big foot also loved the new park you took us to 🙏🇺🇸☕️☕️
Have a great evening Thomas
One thing I love about MacKerricher is it is so dog friendly. You can walk your dog from your campsite right down onto the beach, on leash of course, and all the way up to that overlook.
I purchased myself some Yellow Bird because of you and I like it👍🏽😁
Hooray!
Good Morning! Watched this while drinking my Fogline Coffee. Getting up for work. My favorite Van Life Channel another great video- thank you
Thanks! And good to hear you are drinking Fogline
My husband and I got married at Mackerricher. Such a special place!
That’s so nice. What a great place to get married
Shakshuka is an Israeli/ Mid-Eastern dish. It’s full of garlic, tomatoes, onions and peppers along with other seasonings that you add. You did well by diluting your tomato base because you actually poach your eggs. Wonderful dish!!! Thank you for allowing us to share your world and recipes.
I enjoy the Fort Bragg and Mendicino area so much. I adore MacKerricher SP, one of my all-time favs! That coastline and the boardwalk never get old.
It was my pleasure to watch and I really appreciate you Mr Scott.🐢🐩🐶🐕🌊🌈💜🌺☮️🌙❤️✨💙
Nice video Scott. You inspired me to try light roast beans and I have found that I love them for making iced coffees. I still prefer dark roast for making lattes though, because the stronger flavor of dark roast holds up to the frothed milk better than the lighter roast.
Free lunch can be found at Senior Centers. One here in Albuquerque offers a La carte menu which has a salad and sandwich for about $3. Fresh greens, boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, grated cheese. Very good. During my lean years I relied on this. Plus their exercise gym, hot showers, restrooms. My membership is about $24 per year. Some also offer a food bank, donations. I know your diet needs are specific but by cherry-picking their offerings, it is feasible. I was reversing my diabetes and still managed to eat well there.
California offers great beauty, your travelogue style is good to see and I really like the walks you do, even in the towns. Keep well and enjoy your life. Cheers. 🌺
Scott, great video, only listen to yourself, and there you have it, my two cents. Enjoy that coffee ☕ ❤
Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it! It's always a pleasure to watch😊
Thanks dude
Gorgeous, just gorgeous! I have that place saved to places to check out and spend time at. I love so much of the OR and CA coasts! Thanks Scott…..you do what is right for and by you! I don’t find your magnet or anything else that you have offensive.
I'm definitely going to try making the shakshouka recipe!! 😋
Thanks for the Idea with Shakshuka. Never heard from it before. I really appreciate your videos. Wish you all the best from Germany 🇩🇪. God bless you.😊
We stopped at that park on our way home from camping in Mendocino. It IS lovely. We didn't spend much time though as it was cold, overcast and windy and we had to get home. I'd like to go back.
Btw, I have never heard of that flag to my knowledge. It's not offensive to me. People are entitled to their opinions. That's one of the good things about freedom of speech and living in a free country.
I’m so sick of people being “offended”. Do what you like, like what you do and don’t worry about what others think.
Here here..exactly my sentiments
I'm offended by you saying you're sick of people saying their offended !!
👍👍👍👍
I think it is fun and satisfying to have disparate ingredients and come up with something good to eat. This is such a beautiful spot and the sound of the ocean was amazing -- for a second I swear I got a whiff of the ocean. Yes! the ritual, tools and process of making the coffee is all a fun part of the experience. I just got a wooden chopstick for stirring and a wood scoop for measuring to go along with my new Aeropress.
Hope you’re enjoying your new Aeropress. It’s always fun to get some new gear.
Just found you. Some towns in common. I was born in santarosa, Grew up going to this coast and others,my mother had my siblings in Humboldt county. I still have some family there.I love places with history as well.I grew up in cloverdale. Now in lakecounty, ca. Stay safe, happy, warm this winter. I love cool weather too.
Oh,We have the same salt lamp!
Hi Scott. Thanks for showing how to cook shashuka. Because of you, i had the idea to make a nice shashuka dinner for the family last weekend. Everyone enjoyed it! Thanks again and hope to see more cooking in your channel!
Hello, Scott, I have a 2001 Toyota Echo, that was having REALLY rough idling/engine shaking, poor performance, and my OBD2 code reader showed a P0302 code (cylinder 2 misfire). Thanks to RUclips university, I was able to DIY change out both ignition coils AND spark plugs (spark plugs looked pretty bad - dry carbon deposit), and now the Echo is back to running GREAT again! That being said, maybe check the spark plugs as well??? Good luck in your troubleshooting efforts, and thanks for sharing another fabulous video of the State Park! Cheers, Francisca aka auntifranny
After you finish using your coffee, cut the coffee bag and write on the back where you got it from and the date , then sew them together as sketchbook🤍 it won’t take a lot of space 🤍
💜 wow… You just keep getting these amazing captures of the amazing views that you get to be surrounded by! This is absolutely beautiful… Again… And I must say that that lunch you made actually looked really good and prompted me because I myself had some leftover pasta sauce that I have to eat like in the next day or has to go out and I don’t wanna throw it away and that looks like an interesting dish to try so I’m gonna give it a try tomorrow. Another great video! Thank you so much! Take care
I just got some of that yellow bird. And I really do like it
Excellent
Love the sound of those waves!
The flag is great! We need to think with open minds!
Thanks for the visit to MacKerricher State Park. Glad your engine idle has smoothed out. Too bad about the it randomly misfiring.
I’ve made shashuska for brunch on Sunday most of the time. It’s my favorite recipe to go to. With sourdough toast it’s delicious. The view is beautiful thank you for sharing !!!❤
For the Sasquatch Flag.....👍👍😃😃
Thanks Smurf
Beautiful coast line, miss the sound of the ocean.
Hi there Scott 🖐 I loved the views in this video! I have seen your egg and sauce dish on an Utube video from Iran. There us a family I follow. Being that I am Italian seeing something enjoy this dish, is not uncommon. I must make this soon! 😊Also left over sauce is great for pizza. Meatballs! Yum 😉
You made me laugh more than any of your other videos, you were so funny!
That's my favorite way to do things in a new area, too: explore first, then research a little more later those things that pique my interest. I also love to chat up locals as I wander around and have gotten many a good inside tip on what to see/do/eat in a new-to-me place.
Fort Bragg food bank has a free farm stand and they have lots of organic produce from botanical gardens and farmers
Yay ! your back
Bye Scott……. You areWelcome👍🏽🥰
I've only just found you in the last 48 hours. The flag was the fist thing I noticed. HILARIOUS! Keep it! "Cascadia" I remember that from Ol' Rush Limburgerbutt! Lordy, lordy, lordy! Cascadia! The South shall gingerbread and a pony again!
Glad to see you finally made it out to mackerricher. Such a beautiful place . We go all the time and have never paid to park . There is also a black oak coffee roasters in Ukiah ( mendocino county). And if I’m outside at the right time of day I can smell it roasting .mmm ☕️.Enjoy.
Finally, you made it to one of my favorite places in Northern CA. I must try the recipe since I’m guilty of tossing 1/2 a jar for decades. 😊 Not offended by art - go for it.
Hello Scott, It’s still warm and sunny in Eureka, btw. I hope you get to enjoy some Abalone if you continue to stay in Fort Bragg. Abalone is so delicious and Fort Bragg is where you can find it.
I really love the view
0:18 When you said Fort Bragg I knew exactly where you were but when you clarified I looked and I can’t find a Fort Bragg on the east coast. I found Fort Benning not the east coast, in Georgia, it I didn’t find a Fort Bragg on the east coast.
There’s a military base in North Carolina named Fort Bragg
The East Coast Fort Bragg has been renamed Fort Liberty.
?
@@StaticCamperVan I think it’s been renamed recently bc east coast Bragg was a confederate. It’s now called Fort Liberty.
Nice view of the ocean from the park. At least your van repair did do some improvement. Hope you have a good week.
Thanks, you too!
I'm not offended by the magnet but I don't offend easily. Take care.
Beautiful view
What a lovely state park. It seems to have a nice mix of beach and trees.Thank you for taking us along while you explore!
Watch out for otters in the lake. Welcome back
Love those norcal small coastal towns thanks again for sharing
🌊 🐚 🌊
I have never seen one of your videos before but I wanted to check out Mac Kerricher park. I've been to Fort Bragg a few times but not this park. It's gorgeous there for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I got your coffee pot and absolutely love it for pour overs!!
I like how you analyze things, make good decisions, even though people here tell you to do other things! I like the fact that you make very good decions on facts!
Hi Scott, thx so much for "hanging out" and capturing these amazing sights for us! The coffee smelled fabulous! 🤩 I wasn't offended by the image, i didn't have a clue to its significance - it puts off a govt/ friendly vibe - wouldn't wear it. Ha The way you live feels very natural to me, did it feel natural albeit inconvenient to you from the start, aside from the awful weather extremes you had to go through.... looks like you are really enjoying fall, my favorite time of year. Id love to see what you're working on. Wishing you great sleep and improved vehicular function! 💞 Thanks again!
On the contrary, the first two weeks of vanlife were enough to show me how much more comfortable this life is. But yes, I prefer the cooler temperatures.
@@StaticCamperVan thanks for answering me, I do long to be out there myself. I hope you have a really great week!
🔧Howdy Static. Possibility, your new misfire could be due to a fouled spark plug. If the coil you replaced was faulty and not sending current, it could have caused the spark plug to foul out. 🤙😎✌️
#vanlife #nomad
No issues with spark plugs. I have videos on that.
@@StaticCamperVan
Were the plugs changed before or after the coils?
In the early 60's while being a teen my family and I would rent a small tear drop trailer and park on the beach at 10 Mile Beach which is part of MacKerricher State Park and after a few years my parents bought a home just up the hill and on the other side of the road from the beach. I loved being able to visit the beach all of the time. We spent many years in that home on vacations and I still love Fort Bragg and that beach.
So cool
So we use the extra marinara on a tortilla in a pan and mozzarella on top till the tortilla crisps and the cheese is melted. Van Life pizza 🍕
Oh, please tell me you’re joking. Using tortillas for pizza has been something that I’ve been telling everyone not to do! Haha
Buttons, knobs and switches. Yes, and dials. Sliders too. Also prefer steering wheels.
Beautiful place! I always enjoyed Russian Gulch also. There is a campground there also, but I don't remember if it's private, county,or state. It's a state park. Google, duh! 😂
Hey, Scott! Beautiful places.
I love watching you! It seems to give me a push, hope to carry on! I wish you were on the east coast, and not only the west coast. I live in Maine, which is beautiful, and compares to where you are at!
Hi Scott. Would you please share the brand of the coffee pot that is in this video? The curve of the spout is so pretty and since you like the quality, I would like to buy one. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and sights. Regarding the magnet, do what makes YOU happy. Self expression is beautiful. 🌸
That is a coffee pour over kettle. It’s a Hario Bueno Kettle. I’ve had mine for about twenty years. There are lots of similar ones from different companies now
I will look for the brand you like. Just so you know: Your videos make my life better. Wishing you a day filled with pleasures, small and big.
@lw5417 aww, thanks. Wishing you a great day as well
Amazing, thanks for the video!
your lunch! that dish has been passed down generation to generation in my family. Ive always used fresh cubed tomatoes. Never though of spaghetti sauce. Have to try it.
Hi Scott, so pretty there. Great haircut!
Try going through Booneville. Cool little town
Yes, I’ve been through there a couple of times. Great drive
Hi Scott .. really enjoy all your videos. About Shashuka (one of my fav breakfast dishes!) ... check the following
Quote:
Shakshuka is a simple dish made of gently poached eggs in a delicious chunky tomato and bell pepper sauce. Said to have originated in Tunisia, this breakfast recipe is popular in many parts of North Africa and the Middle East. It is so satisfying, you can serve it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Unquote
Hi Scott❤
Hello
I was just looking st that sticker, and then you got it out ,I'm weird too man 😂
I personally dont trust factory set spark plug gaps, especially since covid, quality control has gone out the window across the board.
Might be worth getting gap gauge and checking?
Me neither. But these NGK Iridium plugs are different than the old days
:) THANKS FOR SHARING, and NO your flag magnet is NOT offensive at al : ) I think the Sasquatch should be holding a Spork and Coffee Mug ! ALL the BEST and Cheers : )
Haha, yes
You may want to try a little WD40 on the scale buttons if they are sticking. It works on my work phone that gets sticky buttons.
Unfortunately the buttons are water damaged
New subscriber. Think positive my friend. I'm watching what you're doing. Keep it up.
My advice to you....get to The East Coast where the grass is greener!
Yes I’ve been there it’s beautiful ❤I cried when I had to leave 😅
I’d like to try those eggs on top of toasted sour dough!
That sounds good
That Shakshuka seems pretty similar to Mexican drowned eggs and looks delish😋
I love the beach and ocean ❤
Shakshuka, thanks for a great idea! Gonna try that, maybe with a piece of garlic toast for dipping.
I don’t find your magnet offensive. I think it’s a neat idea. 💡
Hey Scott! Hope you are doing well my friend! You are right. $8 to park. That's not cheap.
Watch out a gull doesn't steal jor food while eating out there..lol.thanx my man, gr8 video. From prague
Hey Scott, if you ever get tired of where you’re at and want a nice place for winter that will provide plenty of solar while also providing nice pnw weather check out the San Juan islands
Thanks for the suggestion. I prefer to be able to move around though. If I were to winter in the PNW, it would be Humboldt.
@@StaticCamperVan Why do yo call yourself Static then? Just curioius. As static means not moving.
@tinaperez9756 this video has the best explanation: ruclips.net/video/WqfWFJndLvg/видео.htmlsi=pJ14bDLVvn_RDTK4
Drive past the main entrance to the park if your going north and take the next left it is free to drive out there. That land was unfortunately given to the state by the Mackerricher Family yrs ago and one of the stipulations was that the public would always have a free right away to the beach they can't charge you if you go down Mill Creek Drive. The state has been trying to close that road for yrs but legally they can't, so unless your going to camp their don't give them any money take the other road.
It might surprise you to watch a couple more minutes into this video
FYI FT BRAGG VIRGINIA HAS BEEN RENAMED FT LIBERTY. 😊
Shasouka is originally from Morocco and parts of Northern African dish and later popular in middle eastern
I like cheese and I cannot lie!😁🧀
Black Oak Coffee Roasters started out in Ukiah and branched out from there to Sonoma County, so you’re good! 😊
Lol.... you are in my neck of the woods now... super disconnected from everywhere. Some hints for food here...farmers markets and small local farms. Harvest is usually cheaper than Safeway, try tiny little Purity market. And if you are broke broke, the food bank here is very kind to travelers. It's weird here but so much beautiful space lol. Enjoy your travels
