Last night the city was loud and noisy. I’ve been hanging around Eureka, a city in Humboldt County of Northern California. I like cities and I like Eureka. But sometimes it is nice to find some peace and quiet. And one of my favorite quiet places is only a few miles drive from Eureka.
First though, we stop at the casino to fill up with gas, since it has the best price on gas in this county. Then we make a quick stop in Ferndale to buy a cup of coffee at Mind’s Eye Manufactory & Coffee Lounge. Mind’s Eye is one of the most unique coffee shops anywhere. And they make great coffee.
After fueling up, we drive out to Fleener Creek on the Lost Coast. Fleener Creek has become my favorite hiking trail. The short trail leads down to the beach. And the beach is often deserted. Which makes the area extra special.
Today was nice. I got to see pelicans and waves and dramatic scenery here on The Lost Coast of California. And I made taquitos for dinner. Can’t imagine a better day.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

We care. You said no one cares but we do
I think he is right
The Bob Ross of vanlife. I always enjoy listening to you speak, it’s very calming.
👍
I really enjoy these longer vlogs. They create a nice vibe and let one soak up the atmosphere. Thanks for taking us along and inspiring me to make taquitos.
That was 100% my kind of day -- gorgeous seacoast, nap, lunch....what a sweet day.
I swear, Scott's favorite coffee shop is always the nearest locally owned shop around! I love it Scott! 😅
For the record, Olympia Coffee (any location) is number 1 and Mind’s Eye is number 2 on my favorite list.
@@StaticCamperVan. What is ur favorite instant coffee?? I buy Organic Fairtrade . I’m too lazy to grind beans and all that. Just discovered ur name SO HI 👋 SCOTT. I like the name Scott.
I lived in Eureka for over 10 years. If you never lived in a small town, Ferndale is the place. Redwoods are beautiful. Air is fresh, I had asthma but living there made it go away. You can walk around the whole town, it’s that small. Enjoy
I absolutely love the Redwoods!
Hawaii #1 air quality, Northern New Mexico #2
I have to make a cup of coffee every time I watch your videos!☕️☕️☕️
☕️
Coffee is life.
Fab vlog Scott ~ I love the longer ones as it's an excuse to sit down and relax for longer! As someone from Scotland it's lovely to see a chilled look into somewhere unfamiliar to me. So many travel vlogs are frenetic and OTT 💚
Thank you
You make food anyway you want to make it! I like the way you made your taquitos- no vegetables! And I like the weirdos unite stickers by your stove from van city life! 🤣🤣
That is a very old sticker. Disco was a good dog even though he didn’t really like me much 😂
So pretty the trail with the fog.
Great reel, what beautiful bay. Thanks for taking me along on the walk. I did read somewhere that snakes are attracted to coffee! x
It’s 3.37 am here in Spain and can’t sleep. Luckily I found your latest video and thought I would see what you’re doing. 🤣🤣
If this video can’t put you to sleep, nothing will
@@StaticCamperVanoh that’s funny. I’m enjoying your sense of humor. By the way I hate snakes too. 🤣🤣
@@StaticCamperVan. Yep love ur sense of humor. Very subtle.
Nice road trip thank you for sharing it with us.
Lovely video Scott. A few months back I texted my old college buddy Bob, who now lives in El Cerrito, and I asked him if he had ever visited the lost coast?" He texted me back this: I found it.
Hahahaha
I enjoy your videos because you're always Cool 😎, Calm, collective, mild mannered Clark Kent.
Thumbs up 👍
That wasn't boring at all. I found it to be quite relaxing. Nice sights and nice sounds.
Good lord , I am totally relaxed!
I think I am addicted to your videos. 😅
Nothing wrong with that
🤣🤣🤣😌
@ChippiSweet 😂
Scott this is so enjoyable seeing through your eyes and the way you give your listeners a feeling of being right where you are, experiencing the moments.
🙋♀️☕🌲
What a wonderful bird is the pelican / Its beak can hold more that its belly can
YOU ARE A. CONNOISSEUR. OF SPACE AND FOOD 🌞
You really had a good day, 53 minute video 😂. And I watched the entire 53 minutes😂. Good to see anyone having a good day, simple or otherwise 👍👍 Life’s too short to only spend it worrying about crap we can’t change. Have fun⭐️⭐️
It’s 7:38 AM here in Kuala Lumpur, and I’m gonna make myself a cup of coffee with your RUclips vlog on as an ASMR 🙂
Have a great morning Jeffrey
@@StaticCamperVan - You too Scott 🤝
@40:47 reminds me of...use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without
I just love your videos! They are relaxing, with your walks, cooking, and just basic conversation 😃😃😃😃😃! ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Chrissy
Owls & hummingbirds are two of my favorite birds.
Thanks Scott for a long video!! It’s because of you that I go exploring to different areas! Mine are just day trips as I live in sticks and bricks, and have a family. I take my dog with me and go explore walking trails that allow dogs. I also visit coffee shops in the local areas. We’ve had a lot of rain this summer here in NH. Sometimes rain for an entire week! I’ll probably continue exploring this winter, as long as the roads are dry!!
I agree. Day trips and overnights are the perfect solution for those of us tied to jobs and stick and bricks. So much yard work and home repair project maintenance etc. Just having a day or two now and then to explore different scenery heals the soul.
I’m in the east coast right now since July 31, this is making me miss being home in California ! Thanks for sharing your recent adventure along the west coast!!!
Never heard of Lost Coast. Thanks for sharing the gorgeous sights and sound of the waves.😊
Yes we care and love you too. Your goodness2👬👬👬👬👭👭👭👬👭 love.
The beauty of that coastline is is not like anything I’ve ever seen. It is not totally static…with the waves it is ever changing. I love the constant sound off the water… the mighty pacific gives many gifts. Was in that area last month and the “Pelican parades” that went up and down the shoreline provided ongoing entertainment. I care.
I'm not bored I can't wait to be back and explore new places you have shown me. Have a great week.
Thanks Scott for the adventure what a beautiful place your at i love your taquitos ferndale what a nice place.😊

Scott you get that Jurassic park feeling too, haha, same here every time while driving through the forest on truck trails , total Jurassic park vibes, almost surreal , love it. Thanks for getting us to the beach.
Things I like about you. Your real, honest, kind and you speak your mind! You take us on your adventures , I love it I feel like I'm right there with you!❤
What a wonderful adventure. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for taking us along. You are great company ❤
Ooh, Scott Ur so damn creative w/ your meals. Thnx for sharing your coastal experience video. 💘 it
Hi Scott. I so enjoy your mild manner and friendly personality. I also really admire the intentionality with which you do everything. I aspire to a simpler and more relaxed pace of life some day, but in the meantime I watch your videos. Thank you for sharing your life experiences with us... it's very inspiring. Please keep up the wonderful work!
Aww, thanks

You always have me chuckling at the things you say & the way you say it. 😅
I look forward to your videos! When you are not posting, I always wonder where you are and what you are doing.
❤I have to buy some Yellow Bird. Enjoy your day Scott❤
Absolutely beautiful scenery, thanks for taking us along! I too love pelicans, I think it’s neat how they fly across the water. I hear you with the price of gas, it hurts. Stay safe on your travels.
Hi you should stock up on your Yellow Bird! If i like something I buy a few ! Coffee is always 2 cups I love my coffee in the morning. My music and coffee. :))
REAL NICE VIDEO ! !
SUCH A HAPPY JOY TO
TUNE IN TO YOU ! !
❤ ❤
As a Humboldt local do not worry about the Mattole road to Petrolia. You don’t need 4x4. It’s a paved county road that’s curvy and hilly but drivable in any dependable car. The Mattole Beach and River are worth the trip.
Thanks for that. I drove this van out to Petrolia and Black Sand Beach several years ago, I have a video of it. But my van isn’t running well anymore.
Wow as you were saying the word Jurassic Scott I said it at exactly the same time..spooky lol 😂 excellent town and stunning beach 🏖️ absolutely love your Chanel Scott very relaxing to watch 😊
I wish the Lost Coast wasn't so from the East Coast. But, it's an awesome place to visit, even vicariously. Thanks!
Looks like heaven. Love the views, the water, the birds... just about everything!
I'm going to try the Yellow Bird. Sounds really good. I really like the way you do your videos.
Ooo! I love the lost coast!
Yummy 😋 those Tacosittoes looks Delicious!👍❤️😋

Watching you eat burritos, me & my friend eats lots of em now. She eats with veg, & mine with everything. Enjoy!
Great video scott your lunch looked pretty good also. Can't wait until you make another cheeseburger on sourdough
I think your taquitos look delicious and your ingredients are perfect!
Ahhh what a Lovely day! Thanks for reminding me of how simple van life can be 😺💜
The best days are simple. Maybe that should be the video title
Beautiful video.
I got lunch in Eureka (Moe's Pizza), on the day after Labor day. I visited the Redwood forest on my way to visited Crator Lake.
Hey Dude. Good to know you’re still out traveling. Hope you’re doing well
Hey Scott...great video.
*I also finally found Yellowbird at Walmart in only smaller bottles. I live in nowhereville so at least I can buy it.
* Taquitos were also my favorite meal as a kid and still love them!
*I'm from CA and never heard of the Lost Coast. It's really beautiful.
* I have those exact lighters and I just love them. They hold a charge forever and no more disposables that always break.
Thanks for these interesting and somewhat relaxing videos. Besides, I 'm not a fluent English speaker but I can still get everything you say, because you speak very clearly, so thanks for that too !
You have a wonderful talent of narrating the mundane. 🙂
Thanks for taking us along, Scott.
The Pelicans in Morro Bay will allow us to get real close. Pelicans are fabulous.
Never heard of the lost coast. Nice video. I'm also enjoying the cool down in Eugene in my van
That peaceful sound of the wild ocean in your video is wonderful.
Some day I want to get lost when I get rid of this ball and chain from work! I had a vacation trip planned out to visit Northern California years ago and got layed off about that time and was unable to go, but I hope I can make it to the lost coast Some day soon. Thanks Scott for sharing your get lost video I really enjoyed it. Take care out there my friend!
Put a nonflammable "splint" on the lighter with tie wraps to straighten it out.
How refreshing to have a conspiracy over Yellow Bird bottle size ;
No, I have never heard of the lost coast. Thank you so much for taking us there with you. It’s absolutely gorgeous!💜
Louisiana here. Always wanted to visit California. I'm retired.. Maybe if i had somone wanting to go with me and take our time...looks beautiful.
😊 stay happy live one day at a time
Gotta give you props, So-Cal native now living on the other side of the world and was able to finally order some Yellow Bird ,serrano and habanero, going through them like water bro 😂 Very nice on everything.
Sorry to get you hooked on Yellowbird
I bought 3 in Texas one of them is habaneros n not bad. Larabars are great tasting and a cup of café fir the walkn, I do.
So wonderful travelog with the oceans are breathtaking.
Hmm, never thought of using toothpicks to make taquitos (good idea) a nice cup of coffee sounds good.
Ooh a long one too
What a beautiful place
Lovely video xx
This is an incredible area that I was lucky to have visited. Thanks for the video that reminds me of my trip. this place is Magical!
I like how you comment about the areas and different choices.your personality is natural and interesting for all the viewers.and i.feel like family good friend.👍
I always enjoy watching your videos.. :)
Thanks Linda
Your cooking and food looks awesome. A few, quality ingredients. All that’s needed!
Fun being first to view this video :)
What a beautiful place on the coast.. Too bad ⛽ costs so much there. $4.77 here in Tx for ethanol free & it gets better ⛽ mileage than the 🌽 gas. Had the beach all to yourself along with the birds. You make cooking look so easy. Taquitos are the best. I like em with avocado & sour cream & cheese. Yummy.
Fun visit...👍👍
I find your stories fascinating thank you from freezing London.the beach looks so nice lucky you seeing pelicans.
I was super excited to recently see Yellowbird in my local grocery (Kroger) in Ohio! The seranno is still less expensive on Amazon but I took the opportunity to try the sriracha this time. I enjoyed it. Thankfully the bottle size is 9.8 oz. I also recently visited San Diego and had my first In-N-Out burger and fries. Loved it too. So pretty much any food mentioned on your channel goes on my wish list! Haha 😊
If I go to Homeland I can buy the Yellowbird sauce the big one 19.6 ounce for $10.49.
Ah, In-N-Out. We used to go to the original location in Los Angeles when I a kid.
When the title was "Get lost" I knew you were going to the lost coast! So yes, I knew about the lost coast! And it's amusing that your standard is Taqitos (sp?) For most of my life my standard for Chinese food has always been fried rice. It's such a simple dish that most places get sloppy and it's not really worth it. A place that makes great fried rice, makes everything else really well too!
I figured you would know what I meant!
Beautiful, thanks for sharing! I saw your article in The Sun, great job!
I didn’t know anything about that article being published
@@StaticCamperVan Is that legal of them to do?
@emartin851 it would appear so
@@StaticCamperVan Wow...
❤ Good Evening Scott! Lost is a Beautiful place, like your on a island 🏝️,Calm , and quite 👍✌️🤞👌✨🙌🙏🇺🇸✝️🌅🌄🌻
I like watching your video's! Your so soficate, and funny at the same time...❤😂
making due with what you have leads to more variety/creativity from my experience
Hello Scott, I enjoy having your videos as my traveling companion when I commute to and from work. I live camping on my vehicle comfortably with a fan and power station. I just received my 12 volt refrigerator freezer. I got a smaller one than yours. Mine is 37 quarts which is enough for wjat I need. I like the lift out basket and so far it's easy to use. The compressor is quiet. I have 300 watts of portable solar panels. Enough for me for now. I was surprised that you generally only drive 5 or 10 miles a day for fuel conservation. But you seem to know lots of places to park overnight. Gas is 3.50 where I live. I try to plan day trips and overnight. Lots of places to visit that are rural and interesting attractions. I have personal protection ( firearm). Do you as well?
Oh yeah you are definitely hooked on Humboldt.. It happens fast. Have been here over 20 years. Living on wheels in Trinidad.🐢🌞🌊🌺🌻🐢
I live in Eureka and Trinidad is one of my favourite places!
What a spectacular place. I have never heard of the Lost Coast, but it's on my list now. The views were amazing!
That makes me happy!
