This one is special. I very rarely feel at home anywhere. All these years of being a nomad has me feeling as if I don’t have a home-base. But there is one place that feels almost like home. That’s Mendocino.
Today I traveled back to Mendocino County to stay for a while. Starting in Santa Rosa, I drove Route 128 through wine country to Pacific Coast Highway.
First we made a quick stop at Van Damme State Park then headed into the town of Mendocino.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.

Love the town of Mendocino. My husband and I rode the Harley from so humb to Mendocino a few summers back. 100° in so humb to 50° in Mendocino.
Been to Jenner, Cazadero, Guerneville, Petaluma. We drove his truck south on 1 is a heck of a drive. The south 1 scared me at Gualala so we turned around that time!

Oh, I meant to tell you this... when I find a product I really like, I take a picture of whatever it's in (bag, box, jar) and a picture of its barcode. That way, when I'm out, if I need it and can't think of its details, I have it right in my phone.
I always put Cacao nibs in my coffee, and I used to be able to get them at Grocery Outlet for $3.99 and now I can't find them, darn, have to go to Trader Joe's.

Yes Mendocino is magical. And that puzzled look after you hearing the beep with Damme was pretty funny.
Your drive through the redwoods reminded me of one of my own. My family was in Santa Cruz on vacation at the time. My dad and I took a short drive to Felton to stop at CapriTaurus Dulcimers so I could buy one of their dulcimer kits. The kit came with a walnut body and spruce top, but when I got home a friend said he had some redwood with tight growth rings that would make a great top. So I ended up making a neat redwood dulcimer with walnut body, which reminds me of the drive through the redwoods.

Don't go near edge! Sometimes thee edges break away, especially when it rains! I went to the edge of a Drs. Driveway,to empty garbage! The wall caved in! I fell forward on front side of my body,5 ft.down!😭😰 thought i broke my wrist! But didn't,had therapy on my hand,back for a month 😔 Nature is so Beautiful, Gorgeous,but bewear!❤🌞💫👍🤞✌️🙌🙏🇺🇸🌅🌄
This is very true! The cliffs are very crumbly and give way all the time. I taught my kids never to go closer to the edge than the length of their body, at the very most.
So cool that your video popped up on my feed. I just did the Mendocino Coast 50k race today. Mendocino is magical!! The race finishes along the Headlands and on Big River Beach. My first visit there was 2 yrs ago, and I was blown away by the views and the quaint town.

That’s a very quaint and beautiful town.
Love the Mendo area, and have stayed at Van Damme more times than I can count. MacKerricher is nice, too. Highway 1 is best traveled going north-the locals travel faster than I do, and the lack of guard rails can be nerve wracking! I’ll be up that way next month, then on to Humboldt Redwoods and Del Norte redwoods parks-wonderful countryside! And so much greener than usual because of the record rains.

Life is too short to drink stale coffee Mendo Man. 128 is a beautiful route to the coast and not as windy as 20. Been there many times, food in the Irish pub is good, at least it was some years ago.Enjoy the mendo vibe.😊
I concur, Scott. I've been snorkeling in Mendocino. It's unbelievably beautiful. Check out Russian River Gulch viewpoint: 39-degrees 19'45.28N, 123-degrees 48'28.56W

Ah yes, Jenner! Done some kayaking quite often down the Russian to where it empties into the sea at Jenner. Local weather tho is typically overcast and gray. But I think you might enjoy kayaking the area too!
So now, I take it, you're wanting to reexplore the areas south of The Lost Coast ? I hope you can treat yourself to some abalone to eat in fort Bragg or ? And I'm beginning to 'maybe' lean toward a Transit, seems to be a good low expensive way to travel. Thanks for the tour, I now have the motivation to head north up to Humboldt, etc., take care and travel on !!
In the video i watched before this one i told you about kayaking in sea caves and getting hooked on kayaking and guess what? You show us van damme state park and the sea cave tours that got me hooked for life on kayaking. WHAT a coincidence.

First, the state of California is gorgeous. I would likely not be able to see what you see in person so I’m very appreciative for your videos.
Secondly, your persona is soothing as I literally throw on one of your vids after dealing, I mean, working with kids and staff all day. I guess I need an ‘escape.’
And lastly, although I am not a hot sauce connoisseur by any means, today I purchased the Yellow Bird Blue Guava sriracha sauce. My first sriracha sauce tasting and it was delicious as compared to Red Hot Sauce brand which is a common flavor. I have been wanting to try Sriracha and you sort of gave me the courage to try it. Fellow traveler here that enjoys the coastal sights up and down Cali. I too love, love Mendocino. I spend a few weeks in the early fall overnighting in front of the Hotel. Yup, yup it’s the best.

I too so much enjoy watching and listening to you. Your voice is just soothing and calm, so sorry the bag of coffee was stale, I love a good cup of coffee but decaffeinated. The regular coffee makes me jittery. Definitely can't drink espresso.
I really enjoyed this video as the scenery was great and although I don't watch all of your videos' I was inspired to click on to this one by the mention of Mendocino. I did not know where it was before and assumed it was a place in Mexico because I never take a lot of interest in the lyrics of most pop songs .However Mendocino is great tune - one of the best hits of the 1960's .And I have enjoyed listening to it again on YT after so many years

Hi Scott, We really enjoy watching your adventures and commentary from our hometown Eureka.. You're probably aware of the Murder She Wrote series. It was one of the longest running series on TV back in the 1980s and beyond. Anyway, if you ever want to remind you self of Mendocino while you're away watch episodes of Murder She Wrote which used the town of Mendocino as a backdrop. It was called Cabot Cove in the series. I think you can find a compilation of Cabot Cove episodes on RUclips. They were my favorite episodes partly because of the Mendocino backdrop. In the meantime may you continue to enjoy your adventures.

Scott,I liked your video of this preserve and quaint town. I can tell that the river scales and walking trails really resonate with you. You have learned to shop creatively for cooking in your mobile dwelling. I gravitate toward small towns where people are cordial. Its kind of a storybook type town. Enjoy your trips to main streets of the north west. I agree the view are amazing. Take care of yourself and enjoy a cup of static van coffee.

The place you are at is so magnificent. Where fresh water and sea meet it is awsome! Mostly, we see the surface of the water and it is a mystery of what lye beneath and what we cannot see. But, nature reveals itself by watching the tiniest of things...the birds/seagulls will gather and bath their feathers in the clean unsalted water "that is where they meet" before mixing into the sea! ...We then can see what we cannot visualize with the naked eye.
PS...always a pleasure to watch your videos. I'm also from SoCal and have been out on the road for about 4 years now. I'm still learning little tricks from you. Your olive oil Tortillas are the bomb!
