FYI, apparently Dumas had issues with the rear brakes (hole in brake line) at the end of this run, cost him a good bit of time in the last sector especially. Amazing run for him even with brake issues! Second fastest time ever on the Hill. Keep in mind, this is a privateer effort run by him and his own excellent team with the chassis builder Norma. No big factory budget. They're running a Honda engine, but I don't think it's a heavily Honda factory supported engine program. Kudos to him for an incredible month of June, winning LeMans the weekend before in the factory Porsche squad and the PPIHC the next weekend in his own car!
Loeb's car was pretty much the bastard love child of a modern version of a Group B rally car and a pre-hybrid LMP-1 prototype with full factory support. .
There's an error in the official drivetrain records in official site. Rear Wheel Drive record is owned by Romain Dumas - Norma M20 RD Limited (8:51.445 - 2016) not by Rhys Millen - Hyundai PM580T (9:02.192 - 2013)
Very nice performance of Romain Dumas and Sébastien Loeb but now "impossible climb" is tarred, I preferred when it was sand and gravel I think the rise was much more difficult, and like many I love the spectacular videos of Ari Vatanen with his superb 405 T16 it was really master but like most of us, I'm just a fan and lover of motorsports
I would argue that it's not all in the cash, yes you cant own much less race a car like this without the big bucks no sponsors however this mans driving line is incredible hitting every corner at almost the apex and them accelerating into the outer edge.
elevation. the guy at teh gate actually told us to turn off our ac because "even that will put to much strain on your engines". im guessing the cars that do this race take that into account, but even that, like you said, you can hear the down on power
that's because of altitude, thinner air, therefor engine struggles to breathe properly, so less power. Like others said, yep due to altitude. Car was perfectly fine - engine wise
+Dan Henderson yea I knew that. but it seems to be a pretty dramatic loss which is why I was wondering if the engine or turbo was hurt, or if he got a boost leak along the way.
Don't search US dude, you can not know. French Tech car and pilot. It is a Proto NORMA (French builder of race cars), made in my area in the South of France and tested in a track where I run my trackday once a month. Engine made by HPD (race part of Honda) --> Norma on wikipedia -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Auto_Concept
My only concern about that is that other major races have ended for being too dangerous. This is plenty dangerous as it is. Have you been out to pikes peak before?
Sadly no, I have not been there before, but I do guess it would be fatal for making a mistake downhill as there are clearly no borders preventing a fall But Isle of Man TT is still being held annually despite the average deaths of 2 per year?
That would be 'Gravity Racing', done on street luges, long board, bicycles and gravity cars (go cart chassis with weights and a body) Very fast, very dangerous if your brakes fail, and totally spectacular.
I hate to say it, but Rhys Millen in his electric car made serious mistakes on his run. Early braking, awkward line in places, and spun out around a corner. Romain Dumas' driving won that race, not his car.
Some say it was actually Walter Rohrl driving... I'd say that if that were the case the run would have been as fast as Loeb on bitumen... (sarc, for the dumbasses who cannot recognise it)
Austin Johnson Yeah, it's not like winning the World Rally Championship 13 years in a row means anything or having the record amount of wins both as drivers and as a nation. The most wins by the nationality of drivers at the 24 hours of LeMans doesn't mean anything either. Neither does the record number of WTCC wins. Automobile ice-racing, motocross. Like omg you read up a little next time before opening your ignorant mouth. That is, if you're not one of those endangered species of trolls who still can't shut up.
Two different styles. Ari was on dirt and sliding and was not travelling at the same velocity, purely because of road surface. Incidentally, racing is against another competitor, when you try to set a fastest time, as far as I am concerned, that is called qualifying. Romain did a wonderful job, he was tight, but did leave a fair bit on the table, probably because of the steep drop off to his side. I think Romain probably would recognise this for himself but whatever, he was fastest and he won and I am very happy for him. Loeb would have brained him though.
FYI, apparently Dumas had issues with the rear brakes (hole in brake line) at the end of this run, cost him a good bit of time in the last sector especially.

Wow, I salute you Mr. Dumas. Magnificent workmanship sir, well done.
Great video mate :) Im subbed, keep up the good work :)
crazy how Loeb was some 40seconds faster? This already looks ridiculously crazy.
Loeb is an alien with an incredible car
all in the £$€
Loeb's car was pretty much the bastard love child of a modern version of a Group B rally car and a pre-hybrid LMP-1 prototype with full factory support. .
record battu
Only car,not driver
Please more videos of the race ! :D
Such an explosive run!!!!
trajectoires parfaites, un vrai pistard, sensationnel, bravo romain
Really wish they would use a camera with a global shutter. Seeing the track distort when the camera vibrates is distracting.
Footage on the Viper and Millen's electric car looked way better.
People are never satisfied these days.
really wish you would have donated that to them
Norma....The King of Hill Climb
and drives and drives ..... crazy how long the road goes up that mountain
There's an error in the official drivetrain records in official site.

Compared to 2014, Romain Dumas was driving a Norma 4x4
what???? a sportscar 4x4???
Quelle semaine pour Romain, Pikes Peak après Le Mans ! :-)

slight adjustments in steering at the start = cold tires?
that's what I call bumpy ride :D, some parts are pretty scary, considering no fence, just looong deeep mountain slopes
Dumas won overall at both Le Mans *and* Pikes Peak in the same year. Wonder if he is the first to accomplish that feat?......
Insane, I'd like to see telemetry data from this rocket ride.
Looks like he left a fair bit on the table in a few spots. Great effort though, Le Mans one week, Pikes Peak the next.
What's configuration of the engine?
I would argue that it's not all in the cash, yes you cant own much less race a car like this without the big bucks no sponsors however this mans driving line is incredible hitting every corner at almost the apex and them accelerating into the outer edge.
See you in my dreams again tonight, Quartz...
Jeezuzz Krist!!!
Really crazy
part of the run looks very extreme and fast. but why are there that many moments as if he could go much faster there ? can anybody tell ?
It's very deceiving, that is one windy ass road with lots of places to die...
you could literally hear it being down on power at the top of the hill. was that due to the elevation? or was it hurt?
elevation. the guy at teh gate actually told us to turn off our ac because "even that will put to much strain on your engines". im guessing the cars that do this race take that into account, but even that, like you said, you can hear the down on power

Turbo engines will lose some hp at elevation. Not nearly as much as normally aspirated.
+Dan Henderson yea I knew that. but it seems to be a pretty dramatic loss which is why I was wondering if the engine or turbo was hurt, or if he got a boost leak along the way.
C'est super
amazinng
Car ? Motor ? Model ? Proto ?

Just wondering, since there's a hill climb, then why not a downhill run as well?
I'm just guessing that there would be a lot of crashes with a downhill race. Its much easier to manage a cars balance when climbing.
Well obviously it would be a lot more dangerous, but that's the purpose, a more challenging race. Drivers can't just go flat out the whole time.
My only concern about that is that other major races have ended for being too dangerous. This is plenty dangerous as it is. Have you been out to pikes peak before?

What is with the horrible racing lines round the hairpins??
oh my dayz :)
Does this thing actually sound like this or did they just play engine noises instead of that annoying siren?
This car is not electric. The siren is on electric cars so people can hear them coming.
+Joel Smith got it thanks. it just sounded unusual so I was confused.
what car is this ?
Norma M20 RD Limited Spec-2016. Norma Auto Concept is a highly regarded French racing car manfacturer.
What
This car is a Norma M20 RD.
I'm just confused as to how u sent me this video
I didn't send you any video. I have just answered to your question.
Wow.
I hate to say it, but Rhys Millen in his electric car made serious mistakes on his run. Early braking, awkward line in places, and spun out around a corner. Romain Dumas' driving won that race, not his car.
Saw myself at the last hairpin :P
I wonder what 2000s F1 car would do... 6 minutes something?
I have to say that I would love to see an F1 car compete at Pikes Peak. Red Bull are you listening?
Tom Newham I think an f1 car would be in pieces if it made it to the top
They look like they tip toe around some sections, especially towards the top.
couldn't get past 1:24 really defective on the camera
I always thought this was about 40% gravel, must be just the computer games that have the gravel sections.
Was sealed a few years ago, once upon a time most of it was dirt. Check out 'Climb Dance' with Ari Vatanen driving in a peugeot 405 Turbo.
The Climb Dance is THE most impressive run on Pikes Peak. EVER
Some say it was actually Walter Rohrl driving... I'd say that if that were the case the run would have been as fast as Loeb on bitumen... (sarc, for the dumbasses who cannot recognise it)
Fucking enviromentashits made them paved the road.
Sponsored by gran turismo? Please GT sport!
literally all the french are talking shit in the comments. like omg you finally won something 😮😁
That's all they do
Austin Johnson Yeah, it's not like winning the World Rally Championship 13 years in a row means anything or having the record amount of wins both as drivers and as a nation. lmao who gives a fuck.
+Leonard The Sniffer Wallace Bro i was joking dont get booty hurt.
really doesn't look on the limit at all....
if only the P1 manufactures brought their cars to the mountain
Might work since all of them have turbos now
Et oui 9"05 cette année ..
no oversteer no understeer no slide no fun....
Sheer drop one side, 200kph+ on entry speed to some corners, if that aint fun to you then you must be a very dull person.
+Darryl Kelly just Chek vatanen on the same stage and you will find out what's racing
Two different styles. Ari was on dirt and sliding and was not travelling at the same velocity, purely because of road surface. Since when has oversteering and understeering been quick. Fast smooth runs are vastly more exciting to watch than a drifting/understeering one.
Precisely, but the fundamental difference is the surface, Ari did it on dirt, Loeb and Dumas did it on tar.
What make is this shitbox?
beep beep
Le Moteur A Explosion ... Y'A Rien De Mieux lol
Putain tu l'as dit, ha ha ha !!! :)
