    Not sure why someone would pay $2,498.00 for a mesh communicator when Meshstastic nodes can be purchased for $20. In building out a mesh network, entry price point is the #1 way to create acceptance & use. Without affordable hardware, building out the mesh, (user acceptance & purchase) will be problematic if not impossible.
    My 2 cents.

      I 100% see your point however, Meshtastic and these radios are not the same. First, they are not using the same technology (1 watt FHSS at 900 MHz) is not even close the LoRa. You cannot send photos or voice over Meshtastic devices. You may be able to get a Heltec for $20 but as of today a T-Echo is $54 each (off the shelf ready radio). With Beartooth you get two devices with their current discount for $1,250. Yes, that is a lot of money and I completely understand that they are not for every one.

      @@EmCommSolutions "Not for everyone" is the key. If only a handful of people are buying their $$$ proprietary equipment, a mesh network can't be created & point to point communication will be all that is possible, for the few that buy their equipment. Probably why they are selling them in pairs.

      Agreed. I can put up 23 T-Echos or 62 Hel-tecs at the discounted price, or 46 T-Echos and 124 Hel-Tec!!!! at full price. Like.... 124 Hel-Tecs... Come on.

      As he said in the video (and as the Bearcat website shows), they're marketing to the government. Someone would pay that much if it wasn't their money. Also, to the extent that cost is a factor for the government, these things aren't competing with a $50 Meshtastic device, they're competing with a $15,000 MPU5.

    Been searching everywhere on the internet for a full example of their PTT. This is basically an MPU5 but without LIVE video.
    Please put up a video if you end up buying!

    lol ... with an HackRF, you can see those coming miles away with a good antenna (Leaking Bluetooth and 900Mhz at the same spot) ... That may work for undeveloped enemies, but definitely not going to pass the sanity test for a advanced enemy ... With 2 HackRF, I would locate them and order an air strike.

      I agree with you for the most part. In a world of ever advancing Electronic Warfare it is difficult to keep up. However, you can connect directly to the radio with a cord and remove the Bluetooth emission. As for a HackRF or other SDR setups, have you every fired one up in the a city and monitor the ISM band. I have and you pickup 100s you devices within just a mile which may make it little difficult to locate and call it an air strike. If you were in an aerial platform you would likely pickup thousands of transmissions. The idea behind these radios is Low Probability of Intercept/Detection (LPI/LPD) Communications utilizing frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). Nonetheless, that doesn't make them invisible so using strict Emission Control (EMCON) principles would be necessary in a high threat environment.

    I could buy a mesh radio BUT... What's the point of being the one person who knows my "address" (handle/channel name). For a group like search and rescue I see value in a cheap coms system. For a town/community I see little value in something that must be fed with batteries (at least) by people with insufficient technical ability to plug a charger in or crank a handle for an hour if the mains has gone out.
    Having meshtastic has the cache of DIY for those who can and do, it's also a more reasonable buy in ticket price. With the ISM bands the challenge is the permitted power. A meshtastic range test attempt can reach 100miles in radio silence and perfect line of sight, but 2 miles is more likely with occasional peaks at 10 miles.

      Yeah way too expensive..I would rather spend that $$$ on my 5th AR because I can just talk on the radio with my 5th AR-15.

      Ok, what device are you using to communicate with? ATAK is only an application.

    • @OllieVK
      @OllieVK 4 месяца назад +1

      @EmCommSolutions meant to say ATAK and Meshtastic.
      Like most systems, general public is not going to go out and spend $1300 on a radio. So best your're going to do is your family if you buy a few, and maybe a couple of mates if you twist their arm. Same reason Joe Bloggs isn't using P25 trunking system, EDACS, MOTOTRBO or whatever.

    Hey, he just happens to have a 'PROMO CODE.' Imagine that.
    It's just my belief, but I think anyone that would push this grossly overpriced crap just to make a buck off their subscribers, probably doesn't deserve any subscribers.
