Q: If I have a 'client' up in a tree, will it repeat? If so, will it repeat other 'channels?' In other words, my location is not ideal, I think, for router or repeater, due to elevation, but I wouldn't mind it serving as a hop point for everyone and anyone. As of now it's long fast, though I'd prefer to make a private channel. 👍

In a perfect world, better navigation would be great. But in reality, in my practical use, GPS is fantastic. Great enough. I am saying NO to any tech that gives companies a better resolution method of tracking me, which is what this will be. EDIT: GPS can produce a three-dimensional position lock with FOUR satellites locked. Modern devices track up to what, 24? Upper twenties? Quite a bit more than four. GPS is fine.

The proposed use poses too much risk to the existing ISM use. I don’t expect it to be accepted. If we did lose access to 33cm, and the FCC gave us matching spectrum on 23cm or 70cm, I would be fine with that. I currently have LoRa APRS on 915, including an iGate/Digi. In addition to providing this connectivity and the gateway to 2m and 70cm APRS, I am using this network to study terrain effects on GPS accuracy and correction via multipoint doppler stations. As a ham, I have no use for Meshtastic anymore. I tried to work with it, but the Meshtastic developers made it clear to me that they are not really interested in helping Amateurs in the US. On the contrary, they just take advantage of your part 97 improved coverage privileges for their unlicensed and encrypted use without protecting you from violating the terms of your license. I suggest that hams check out the LoRa APRS implementations which give us more opportunity and license compatibility using the same hardware.

I don't advocate breaking the law, but the reality is that if people want to use some of these data modes OTA, they will have to break the law. The most interesting aspects of Meshtastic (namely symmetric encryption) are already illegal on the ham bands at higher power levels.

If you read the filing, NextNav is specifically asking to have the limitation that their service not interfere with other users removed, so they fully know that they will jam everyone else on 900MHz and are asking permission to do so.

When I enter the MQTT settings in Meshtastic, there is a switch for Precise Location, You can also set the radius of your approximate location up to 7 miles.

You can set how many bits of precision your position sends. Google "meshtastic position_precision". Some example values from the docs are... 11: Large region, around ±11 kilometers 13: City-sized region, around ±3 kilometers 16: Neighborhood-level precision, around ±350 meters

I’ve heard that they have a tendency to disconnect from the device they’re paired with with. Is that true with your experience?

I manually enter my Lat and Long, mqtt turned on. Provide phone location to mesh off. See node on map, and it seems like my node is refreshing shortly after and my position is 0 an 0 for lat and long. 2.3.13 firmware. I cant get it to stick. Ideas?

I've had a set of these for a bit and they work great. Beartooth just opened up a public TAK server as well that was wicked easy to set up.

Is there an ability to make a DIY system from the mesh network to function similarly as the beartooth?.. maybe not as advanced to do pictures but send messages and audio?..or send messages and pictures but not audio?.. in this attempt being similar to that of a beartooth but 1/5th the cost of that product.

How do you make contacts? I can barely get my own devices to communicate consistently . Often have to create/update a channel and share it between devices to get them to talk again. RIght? you can only communicate unless all settings are the same on both ends?

Their marketing is horrible and they constantly avoid actually answering technical questions about their product. Not thrilled with their responses to the point I wouldn’t even attempt to buy their product
