    This is a very interesting video. It reminds me that, although I have worshipped the Beatles for over 50 years, there are still things like that I didnt know (such as the Frost edit).

    Watch the beginning of the Revolution video carefully. As soon as Lennon starts singing, George leans over to Paul and mouths, "John's mic sounds like shit!"

    Considering how common it was for pop/rock music in the 1960s to be lipsynced on tv - and often no where near "in sync" - I was happy with these 2 great performances.
    It hasn't been until recent history that I noticed this live version of Revolution still had the keyboards, but no keyboard player. I always assumed it was Billy Preston; but Google just told me it was Nicky Hopkins. Not too shabby.

    I do not think that the backing vocals were live. On the verse ( for "Hey Jude" ) that John first comes in, he doesn't, but you can still hear his voice on the track. Paul even looks at him and smiles a little, and John just looks back at Paul with the expression " Is that where I was supposed to come in ?" Also, one of Paul's vocals was live, but you can hear where Paul's "double track" vocal comes in with his "live" vocal. Same with "Revolution". You can hear John's voice double tracked ( so only one was live ), but Paul and George are live.

    Singing Over Backing Trax was common on Television shows going back to 1965. Today it is also very common, most notably on Taylor Swifts recent Tour. I'm Mixed on this Tactic but may have to use it myself as I record all the Instruments. Ariel Pink began his career that way since he also played all of the Instruments and didn't have a Band.

    • @MsKnighterrant
      @MsKnighterrant 9 дней назад +5

      It was part of the ruse to make people think it was a live performance. British Musicians Union rules at the time would not allow mimed performances on TV shows, so they had to make it look live.

    • @johnrowemd5476
      @johnrowemd5476 9 дней назад +6

      In the UK , at the time , if one did not use real musicians or if one did not really play their instrument during the filming of a show they were “taking the job away from a musician who could have performed it and been paid for it.“ I believe it was all part of that UK Musician’s Union’s agreement.

    I disagree with the conclusion that Hey Jude/Revolution we are period where the Beatles were all hunky-dory. Hey Jude/Revolution were recorded while the Beatles were recording the White Album. Most historians would agree, I believe, that the White Album sessions were filled with tension and discord (leading their sound engineer, Geoff Emrick, to quit in disgust).

    • @BigSky1
      @BigSky1 7 дней назад

      @ If you watch and listen carefully moonbeam you will know how. It is also confirmed in many books on the Fab 4 that it was part mimed part live due to the Musicians Union. The same reason Revolution was not totally live.

    • @jackf8417
      @jackf8417 6 дней назад

      So, them opening up and fooling around playing “it’s now or never”, and the full orchestra backing them up was all piped in? You can clearly see Paul is playing the piano, and Ringo is playing the drums. Maybe a little too much acid back in the day for you moon beam.

    • @BigSky1
      @BigSky1 6 дней назад

      @ The Outtakes of them fooling around at the start and in between songs was live but they were recorded earlier in the day and not televised at the time. It was for the studio audience only.
      The only thing live about the actual broadcast were Paul and John’s vocals. Paul can be seen playing the piano but you would not have heard the sound. Everything else you see is an illusion.
      I quote from The Complete Beatles Chronicle by Mark Lewisohn. Page 296. Wed. 4 September 1968.
      ‘Paul sang live to his own pre-recorded vocal during the body of the song and then sang entirely live in the long refrain. (Despite the presence of the orchestra and the Beatles guitar amps, only the vocals were live, fooling the Musicians’ Union into believing that no miming had been perpetrated.)
      It seems they also fooled you as well sunshine.
