There's very little call for fuzz in the repertoire of my cover band, and yet...I own 3 of the pedals in this great vid: Fuzz Head, Black Glass OC81 and Monterey. The Pedal Board comparison shows the incredible tonal variety within the fuzz category -- and how Robert Keeley is a master of devising devices to create them.
In addition to my usual comment of these videos being helpful, efficient, entertaining and genuinely great, I will also say that I am extremely jealous you have a Wolff. I had an electric mudd for a bit but never got my hands on the Wolff. Well done sir. Keep up the stellar work. Best pedal shootout vids on all of RUclips.
Alex Nennig I had two! One in the Octave Fuzz video and one, in this one, signed by Robert Keeley on the back (as you can see at the end of this video). Sold them both...! Octave Fuzz isn't really for me, I reckon.
Keeley have just released a v2 of their version of the Mossrite Fuzz, so you can now buy it! robertkeeley.com/product/Vintage-Octave-Fuzz-II/ Except it's sold out.
Son of Fuzz Head sounds huge through my VC-30. I also love the Dark Side/Loomer Fuzz (same modded opamp circuit) The Blacktop sounded best with your rig, I reckon.
Another great video. I solved the fuzz problem by making a local pedal builder create for me a "Rat Centaur", a clone of the Pro Co RAT together with a clone of the Klon Centaur, all in one pedal. With the right settings the Centaur can either tighten the distorsion of the RAT or boost the fuzziness. All hand made with the best components on the market. I am pleased.
The Fuzz Bender is my favorite fuzz at any price! Shout out to Gran Hechicero for recommending it as the secrete to hist tone! ruclips.net/video/4tvUaiGa0AM/видео.html
Awesome shit as always. Love these vids. For me it is the Loomer and the Psi Fuzz. For some reason his fuzz tones generally do not seem to grab my attention. I have about 30 fuzzes and not one Keeley. I guess that will change 1 day....In the meantime PLEASE keep up the good work and let me know if I can help.
Gear is listed in the video description, but in general I use a Sennheiser e609 mic hanging off the amp to record into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Record the audio into GarageBand, and the video on my iPhone held in a mic stand. Put together the audio and video and edit/caption in Final Cut Pro X.
Having a buffer in front of fuzz pedals isn't a good idea. The looper is a good idea for other pedal shootouts, but not here. Good video idea tho, keep it up!
So people say. But as it's a common complaint about fuzzes (along with how they don't sound as good with a solid-state amp) I tested the guitar direct into the pedal and with the looper before I made this video and, to be honest, I couldn't really tell the difference.
I mean, I'm definitely saying that Keeley is the Beatles of pedals here, aren't I?
Would that make EHX the Rolling Stones of pedals? :)
Randy Sutton Ha! Yes.
Your comparison videos are a model for all to follow. Thank you for not blabbering and wasting time

Thank you for doing a great job with this video. Many questions were answered for me.
Man!! I can experience the versatility of the katana. Fuzzes and solid state amps can't work so fine!!!

Alex Nennig And, thank you.
Fuzz Head FTW - thanks for your time and effort x
Keeley Sfocato is my favorite. ❤
Resently found your channel. This is my favourite so far. Good job!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it.
Great stuff, man. I've owned a Fuzz Head, and currently own both a Wolff and Electric Mudd. All quality.

What a clear comparison.
Fuzz Bender next ?

Who made it ? I'm interested , that lowkey sounds like a awesome pedal ....

I may watch this 6 more times, if that’s OK...
The Grand Antenna If you could get it up to 5,000 views by the morning, it'd be most appreciated. Carry on.

Thanks! Much appreciated.
Hey great video! Do you know what kind of fuzz circuit is in the loomer?
3 years and ZERO dislikes later
I liked the psi and dark side.
Insane
Thanks!
Epic video.. even for this lowly bassist
Did also want to ask - how do you record/edit? what is your gear? And one more thing: Love those Beatles records.

Well I was looking for a song about a woman who has peach fuzz hair...lol 😆
do you know what the fuzz on the loomer is based off?
Op-amp (IC) Big Muff
Same as in the Dark Side
Pretty sure I won't be buying any of these.
Glad to help :)

Also, some parts of this video aren't from the looper, but directly from the guitar. And the looper is true bypass, not buffered.
Cool, thanks for the response 😀
no
Yes.
Almost all of them sucked. Only Dark Side caught my ear.
Have your ears checked. Or your taste...
Ha!
