I love this. It’s so true. I remember once seeing two old women board the train and one of them was really grumpy and had her wrinkles in all the wrong places, and one of them was really smiley and happy and had all her wrinkles in the right places! That was 15 years ago but I think of it every time I think about skincare or wrinkles!

This is so good. I am simply 24, but I will admit how much I was tempted with the expensive skin care line. But it didn't work, to be honest. There was this one thing that I heard from my mother that ingredients to healthy skin can always be found in your home. That's true❤ I sincerely rely on natural skin care activities.
Thanks for making us all believe that it isn't always about expensive skin care products! ✨️

Thank you for another helpful and awesome video Sophie. I have begun looking into natural skincare. I have also come to understand how the beauty industry has sucked all ages of society into their web. Although yes, there are some fantastic products and treatments out there, the "average" person can't afford those things. Nature has its own wonderful holistic secrets that are there for us to find. It's exciting! 🌞✨

I love how you call it noise. I call negative things in society especially when it comes to women noise. Women need to stop listening to what magazines, articles, and even "influencers" have to say about our beauty. We don't need to inject stuff into our bodies and faces. We don't need to have abs, we don't need to look 25 at 50 years old. I really believe that if women just started embracing everything about themselves it would be so wonderful!

I'm 24, Indian and my skincare consists of a homemade cleanser (Indian gram flour and water), aloe vera gel from the plant and occasional sunscreen (since I don't go out much), you could easily mistake me for a 14 year old😂 My skin is so smooth and glowing and I've never ever had acne and I rarely get any pimples and I owe it to Fuller's earth masks I did while I was a teenager and also I'm a vegetarian!

What you said literally opened my eyes. You said that these skincare companies are the ones who first remind us of our flaws and then launch a particular product for it's aid. How true is that! These companies don't launch products first but these launch insecurities first, these make us look at ourselves in a manner which makes us feel bad about our skin etc. Everyday we see that a new 'defect' has been launched in the market which is considered as undesirable and these companies offer stupid solutions for that problem which didn't even exist and even if it did it wasn't much of a problem anyway!

Great video. I’m 40 and embracing aging. I use 4 products for my skin daily and a mask 1-2 times a week now. I only use 2 brands that don’t aggravate my sensitive skin right now. I very rarely wear makeup. I don’t put a lot of effort in my skincare. I get shocked by how much my cousins and friends my age or couple years younger spend for skin care. They spend $100s where I spend between $30-50 for skincare.

I used to work sooo hard trying solutions for my skin since I had adult acne from age 18 through some of my early 30s. I haven't had them since using a few items, and I went through so many items to find the right ones for me, and over time have cut them down to a few. My scars are there but I am just glad I don't have breakouts at all any longer. I like that you made your own items. I had tried that and it did not help my face. I have reached the point where I am accepting how I am aging and just go, "Well. . I'll be 40 in a couple months, and it is okay to age. I've had a good life and look younger than my age, so I'll embrace where I am in this season." I have smile lines now and that is new for me, but they are cute.

I am 70 and love my skin care. It’s based on the classic dermatologist routine so the same things through the years, maybe a change of moisturiser or cleanser and enjoying improved sunscreens. It’s simple when you focus on what has been proven to work and ignore the new and exotic.

  • @pippas5808
    @pippas5808 Год назад +3

There is no skincare product that will improve your skin the way a healthy diet, a good night's sleep, adequate hydration and lack of stress will!
I've never been big on skincare products, but I used a cleanser and moisturiser throughout my teens, 20s, 30s and into my mid 40s because I was told they were 'necessary' for healthy skin. Then I ran out of both at the start of lockdown and couldn't obtain my usual brand. Since shifting brands risked triggering skin issues for me, I decided to wait a week or so until my new brand was available to order online again - after a couple of days of facial discomfort (tight, dry feeling skin) I suddenly realised that my skin was feeling and looking far better and healthier than ever before. So no I don't use any skincare products at all, apart from occasional coconut oil in winter and a skin balm if my facial psoriasis flares up. I'm late 40s and have no intention of going back to using any other skincare products any time soon. So don't assume your skin 'needs' something just because you've always used it - you might be surprised!

Wonderful thoughts, Sophie! We waste so much time and money on skincare, our skin doesn't really need. I am in my early 30 and my skin is fine, much better than in my previous years of 5 step expensive skincare. Now I only use gentle cleanser or soap, natural Aloe Vera gel, cucumber or honey as moisturising treatment, salt as an exfoliant and green tea with tea tree oil as a toner. No creams, no sunblocks, no serums. My skin thanks me for simplicity of my routine and really looks healthy. Most important than skincare is what we eat, our physical and mental health. Less stress, less social media, more fresh air, good sleep, more time with my family. That's what make us feel and look good ❤

I am 68, and I have never really embraced a skin "routine". And maybe I've been lucky, because aside from acne in my teens and twenties, my skin has been pretty good. I have wrinkles now but I like them - to me, they reveal a life fully lived. I've tried some products over the years, but my approach to skin care has always been the same. I keep my facial skin clean with a gentle cleanser and only occasionally add a moisturizer. Same goes for my body skin - I cleanse gently, then exfoliate and moisturize occasionally. My sister is 11 years older and has spent a fortune on skin care over the years. She used to bake in the sun, trying to get a "healthy tan" back in the days before the damaging effects of sun were known. I always stayed out of the sun. My sister has a lot of wrinkles and part of that may be due to her sun exposure, but I have a theory that constantly touching and meddling with our delicate facial skin through daily skin routines, can actually DAMAGE the skin. I think your video is a great wake up call - who are we doing this for, if not for ourselves? The societal and media pressure to buy products is huge. Plus, as you illustrate, we have everything we need in the kitchen at a fraction of the cost. Let's rethink the whole thing.

My weakness lately is being too many face sunscreens, but I guess that’s a good thing to have plenty of. It’s crazy just how many steps we can find ourself totally okay with doing, morning and night. I am a 43 year old american woman and I have struggled with skin insecurities since I was ten!
My mom made my sisters and I at the age of 10 do a long step skin care routine. I had acne as well and my skin care became more of an obsession since my acne was very severe . I used rentin-A for my acne religiously from age 12 to age 31! I was obsessed with skincare products and spend a small fortune on these products from the age of 18-31, I probably could of bought a new car or bought a house with how much money I wasted on these so called" skin care products" (products full of chemicals and other harmful ingredients) . I avoided the sun a lot growing up and would wear long sleeve shirts and hats whenever I was in the sun to prevent wrinkles etc.!
Unfortunately in my teens and early to mid 20's I didn't read the labels of my skin care products! I naively believe all the advertisement lies! For many years I truly thought all my skincare routine would prevent my wrinkles and sagging skin! I didn't understand about natural skincare products or even how a healthy balance diet including proper hydration, ,regular exercise including strength training, maintaining a healthy weight throughout ones life, and finding ways to relax on a daily basis to lower stress are far more beneficial and impacting then anything I can put on my skin!
When I was 31 I had my first child. He has contact dermatitis and all my skin care products, hair products, perfumes, make-up etc, basically anything that wasn't organic all natural stuff would cause him to break out in hives! I had to stop buying the things I was using and try more natural products. The only things I can use on my skin and hair now is organic unrefined virgin coconut oil expeller pressed and regular ivory soap, and or dove unscented soap. I exfoliate with a wash rag or use an exfoliating puff. I haven't dyed my hair and worn make-up in 13 years.
I have saggy skin due to losing 80 lbs and gaining weight again during my three pregnancies in my early thirties. I hope to come to terms with how my skin looks and be happy with it and once in for all truly not care whether my skin is clear, smooth, youthful or not!
Thank you for this video I was very encouraged by it.
    Edit: For clarification

We know we are being directed but we don't realise how much marketing permeates every area of our life, personally skin care should be as natural as possible eating well, hydrating and moisturing as I've aged I decided to age naturally and age well mentally too be not opting into botox, fillers chemical colours on hair false nails I'm at ease with my aging not trying to keep up I step out confident in my skin has a 61 year woman we are all beautiful when we smile xxxx

I also had bad acne as a teenager and tried many different things but really only age improves this but I was left with a lot of scars. I starter using Rosehip oil and one day looked in the mirror and realised my scars had faded a little. It reminds me now that I'm older to keep it simple, we don't need all the fancy serums. Just a couple of good quality products.

Sometimes people forget that seeing the results from a product can take 3-6 months with consistent use. They just expect instant results and will keep buying to try to get there. It's also a bit sad to see little girls, like Middle School age, sucked into complicated skincare routines from expensive brands. I started getting acne then, so I get it, but it's just so unnecessary. At least at that age, you only need a cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and maybe an acne treatment. The importance of a healthy diet, drinking enough water, sleeping well, managing stress, etc. is not emphasized enough, because that doesn't allow skincare companies to sell more product. When I was around 15, my skin got sooo much clearer just because I prioritized eating healthier, not drinking so much sugar, and drinking more water.

I never was a fan of using all kinds of makeup and face creams and after I turned 40, I started to have sun spots so I had to change that but I am keeping it simple 😊 I use only organic jojoba oil, a TBT and Eye Serum, Retinol and Sunscreen. All clean and toxins free. Oh and I forgot about my Red Light Therapy, which I love 😍 My dark sports are lighter now and hopefully will stay like that 🤞

Raw milk to cleanse my face. Gram flour is amazing too. And jojoba oil, glycerine, honey is my fav moisturizers. I want to try rosehip oil to fade my acne marks. And as toner, rose water, mint tea, green tea is so so refreshing. That’s all. I don’t use any sunscreen and I haven’t have any issue yet. Less is more ❤

I love the message behind this video. I love skincare! I’m aware there needs to be a healthy balance though. I buy less now that I’ve found some products that I love. I’m more confident in the skin that I’m in. And I only follow like 3 skinfluencers who feel good to watch and who promote skincare for my type of skin.
I had to unfollow scrapbookers. Every time they came on, they were promoting new products. I didn’t think it was fair that they got the products for free, when I’m on a limited income and keep buying into what they’re selling.
I’d love to know who some of these ladies that you follow are! As always? I’m glad I follow you. You are so inspiring!

I reduced my skincare alot and find a routine that works. I have to change it up betweens winter / summer but that's it. I will always get my microneedling and botox done - because the breakouts are painful and botox helps with my migraines. It's all about what benefits something actually brings to your life. I will also keep ond going to hairremoval laser sessions every 4 months - yes, they are expensive. But not having itchy lady parts after shaving - totally worth it to me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this video. As a 28 year old, I’ve had a resurgence of cystic acne, and it’s greatly affected my self-esteem. It doesn’t help that my mother shames me for it anytime she sees me and says I look “disgusting.” She also has said “how could a man like you with your skin” after I tell her about a date. (Needless to say, I don’t visit her much haha). Anyways, your video has reminded me to love myself no matter what and to continue enjoying life. 😊❤

I know how acne feel like and I would love to tell my younger self to not stress over it anymore. I compared my skin daily, wished to have clear skin daily and such things. Looking back, I know I did the best but I needed the biggest hug. I always took care of myself, but at some point, you have to deal and accept the things you have. I have too many scars to even care anymore and I'm happy that I'm able to see myself different, more kindness and love. ❤
