I used to get hair extensions, acrylic nails and lash extensions and straighten my hair w keratin! It took a LOT of effort to maintain this Look until I traveled to Europe and realized wow I was living in a bubble in Beverly hills! I came back and took off my nails, lashes and hair extensions...I started appreciating myself the way I was and am. I don't need ALL what the media and Social media was telling me I needed din order to look beautiful. Now I save time money and have learnt to love ME!
Sophie, I'm so grateful for you. I'm an African American woman on a self identification journey, and your content creates a safe place of knowledge. I'm an Army Combat medic dealing with trauma from war, your content makes me safe. I am a 2x stroke survivor, your content gives me hope for my future. Keep shining your light❤Keep going ❤Thank you. F. Powell
I think her content is just beautiful. Recently I read a book titled The Nature Fix and there was a chapter in there regarding women dealing with trauma from their service.
ohh my goodness gladd you found a space to feel safe. I hear the struggles you been through and so proud of how far you have come! Always make sure to take care!
I am not American, i am African. But I want to say thank you for your service. As an African I truly appreciate my African-American sisters (and brothers too) as your stories are one of overcoming systemic challenges which is similar to our stories as Africans. All those people in your life are truly blessed to have been in your presence. You did all the work to heal others, you now deserve to heal yourself or reach out to others to help heal you. I’m sending you so much light.
Life feel complete but it wasted if you unhappy, like me, i spend numerous time thinking whether i like it or not if i join activities forcibly, but instead i cooperate with it trying to not spoil the mood with everything i gain.
“We didn’t always have the means to get everything we wanted but we always had enough for everything we needed. This is what I considered comfort.” That really resonated with me. Thank you Sophie for your video they are always so thoughtful and thought provoking I often write down quotes or save them to rewatch. Thank you.
A quote that resonated with me so strongly from this video is "It's not just about the end goal, but who we become." I feel that it's so often forgotten especially this time of year, when we are reminded of the need for new goals in the new year. And yet, by the end of the year, we are not solely thinking about what we've checked off but how we feel because we've done those things, and whether our daily habits reflect the changes in our routine. Your words are a warm reminder that reflection while still actively pursuing a goal only serves to enhance the journey in reaching that achievement. Thank you for another thought-provoking video Sophie 💓
I grow up in Brazil and had a very neglected childhood, when I moved to the US at 19 I had a completely different life, I got so much there and started to consume a lot. A year ago my husband and I decided to move to Italy and life is very different here, we’re not even allow to buy much from the supermarket it is mostly what we need. It’s being a life lesson, to realize that sometimes the emptiness inside of us tell us that we need to be surrounded by people and have a lot.
I'm italian and I say welcome to my country, I hope you're living your best life here 😊 yeah life in Italy is very different from the US and Brazil, but italian people are addicted to compulsive shopping too unfortunately, although things have started to change since the pandemic. Our economy isn't great at the moment and wages are among the lowest in Europe so we can't spend too much as in the past. But I think it's actually a good thing, we all should start spending only for what it's really necessary and not just to fill the voids. Ciao a presto 😊
This is a phenomenal video. It has such an important message that I think a lot of people could benefit to hear. I really do wonder how much this excess of comfort contributes to so many of us feeling depressed and purposeless. There's truly nothing like the feeling of accomplishing something challenging or pushing yourself to see what you're made of
Your last point really resonated with me. It's so true that good things require effort. When things are too easy and I suddenly have days filled with free time, I tend not to spend them in ways that enrich my life or make me feel fulfilled. Conversely, when I spend my days slowly and lovingly working away to serve my family and striving towards my goals, I feel a sense of accomplishment and meaning that even the most relaxing days can't beat.
Totally relate when you spoke of reaching for the phone when one has an immediate question or interest. There is immediate gratification and comfort everywhere in the first world. I enjoyed this video 💛
I think our definition of comfort will keep evolving as we age and enter new phases of our lives. The key is to learn to change, adapt to and live with whatever planned or unexpected situation that comes along.
Living a more intentional lifestyle is really the objective. You have the right to rewrite your story and even determine this is not how my story will end.
I grew up in an environment where discomfort was expected and was perhaps considered a virtue. I think this is where things are taken to the extreme for example where you don’t have clean clothes or adequate feminine protection not due to lack of resources but just trying to make it with as little as possible because it was somehow “virtuous.” I can’t began to understand why things were like that but I think that’s why comfort has a different meaning to me.
I added that book to my Barnes & Noble wishlist! This video made me think of one of my favorite terms, sisu. It's a Finnish word that can be translated many ways, but the way I often think of it is "resilience". We can all cultivate our own sisu 💚
I just finished the book this week and I’ve got to say that this video really resonated what I read and what a great way to start the new year 2024. Thank you.
My life has changed since that i'm addict to get over my comfort zone, addict to feeling that came to me after this, feeling of growth. This make me feel alive.
Yes, you are right, we need balance, too much comfort is not good, but too much discomfort is not good either. The most important things is being grateful of the most basic things in life. We should be thankful to God just breathing and able to sleep good and being able to move and have our being. Being grateful, being purposeful and being generous of what we have and just enjoy what we have and all that God has given us.
Love this so much! This is so important to reflect on our lives of constant comfort, and instant gratification. There is so much value in doing things on our own, if it's realistic for you and your lifestyle. Our lives are so automated, from the dishes to our foods (delivery). Although, there is nothing wrong with that, I wonder what could we be missing out on if we spent a little bit more time doing things that requires effort, rather convenience. For example, walking to the grocery to instead of driving, or maybe cooking more often with our loved ones than just doing take-away food. Yes! I love how the book you mentioned acknowledges the implications that comfort has on our well-being and mental health. Thank you for adding so much value and wisdom on RUclips!
Love love your topic of this video chat. You have a calm and shows with your lovely natural body and long hair. I feel the goals in life are what you listed and also to remove toxicity. Peace and love to you.
I like this idea of a not so comfortable lifestyle. Some months ago I watched the blue zones docu on Netflix and it really inspired me in several ways. One of it is to question the longterm benefit of comfort.
New subscriber here! I love your channel and your message. I am retiring at age 56 in May and want nothing more than to clean out my house of what I've been neglecting for so long. Stuff that has piled up in the hopes that one day I'll use it "when I have more time". Life is too short to continually trip over the clutter of the past. Literally and figuratively! ❤
I read that in Japanese, Misogi is related to "purification". So I can see how this can be used in cleansing your life from stress, new changes, starting over etc. Interesting.
Your wisdom, and your calm spirit and voice bring me great joy. Thank you. Thru what you say, I am learning to let go of things and materialism, and to hold on to my relationships
I first discovered your channel last year when I was on maternity leave with my first child. I have been hooked ever since. Your videos are so calming and peaceful and they help me relax and also learn about achieving peace and balance in my life. I, too, also have a problem with Googling everything that pops into my mind. This year I'm trying to cut back on distraction and work on focusing and staying in the present moment.
Thank you Sophie for your quality videos I’m going to watch it again as I’m so distracted at the minute my mind keeps running away to circumstances around me over the last 3 weeks I wish I could get consistent peace so I could live in the present moment
I listened carefully to your video. I'm no one special. Just interested. Sometimes people don't realize how little they have to do to accomplish things. The joy is seeing how you got somewhere in the end without figuring out all the methods. You are young enough to reap maximum benefits.
Hi Sophie, would you be able to do a healthy eating /living video? Slow Eating mindsets. I admire you a lot and I watch your videos as a reference to live slowly & Mindfully..xx
Of course we should include some physical discomfort in our life and things to take us out of our material comfort. But I would challenge a bit. I think that the term 'comfortable life' for most people means a life largely free from stress: work stress and money stress. And your videos are the very epitome of that comfortable life. I started watching you when I was going out of my mind with work stress and long hours and dreaming of a quiet and slower life. The freedom and time to relax, to think, to take a hike on a mountain, to sit on a beach, are a comfortable life I would love to have.
Aloha Sophie 👋, I hope things have been off to a great start for you this year. As much as it’s nice to live a comfortable life, what I think is most important is the awareness that there’s a difference between appreciating the life you get to live and getting too comfortable to a point where you end up taking life for granted. Mahalo for the video, and sending you lots of love!!! ❤️❤️❤️🤗
For someone who is always seeking comfort, I think 'misogi' is something that spoke to me. Perhaps this year I need to put in more effort to 'deliberately seek discomfort' to grow. Thank you for this beautiful sharing.
I have not heard of the Comfort Crisis but it sounds neat. I love that life is our gym hehe. It is very cold where I live and I don't handle the outdoors too well because my ears are very sensitive due to former partial deafness (even with things on my ears if wind gets to them). I can't wait to be outside more in the warmer weather and to get in shape again (since pregnancy/postpartum got me out of the lovely shape I was).
great video. in christianity a period where we may give up comfort every year is during lent. for example through fasting or giving up something that indulges us (like social media or shopping).
Such a beautiful vid you've done, as always. Very, very glad for understanding every time more your videos you release. Thank you a lot for my long way to the top to learning English, and very, very awesome you are still learning Portuguese and that you like hiking like me. And Happy belated New Year also!!! Hahaha... See you later, Sophie!!!
I was working hourly at a remote job and thinking this will work….I’ll go under my fiancés health insurance when we get married. And have more time to enjoy nature and animals. I felt like I was settling and could do so much more with my brain. And then took a full time job making more money than him and turns out I’m much happier with focus, projects and the fast pace world of corporate life… I luckily still get to work from home 4 out of the 5 days. I don’t feel so lost. I don’t buy things and am saving for a house in a beautiful area. I like the simple life and enjoy nature but still need health insurance and a full time job for my mental health. Along with working 50 hours a week I actively read books and have 3 dogs and take care of my bed ridden mother.
Have to mention AG1. It has lots of Oxalates and it can increase chances of kidney stones and per my doctor orders I can't take it. It affects my kidneys.

Definitely find joy in the mundane! My Mom says “..find joy in every interaction with every person you come in contact with during each day!”
It is not that we have a “short time“ to live,
but that we “waste“ much of it. ❤
Yess! Such an important reminder
Life feels never ending.
Life feel complete but it wasted if you unhappy, like me, i spend numerous time thinking whether i like it or not if i join activities forcibly, but instead i cooperate with it trying to not spoil the mood with everything i gain.

I can't believe that so many people like this video. I have no idea of how I get comfortable to watch this., except when I am lonely and get bored.
Hiking is just the best!
It really is!
Loved this particular video and the message it carried among all your very good, very thought-provoking content ^^ Keep going Sophie !
