JUNKYARD LIFE

- Short documentary about the day in the life of a Junkyard worker. Long time parts puller Paul "Shaky" Childress demonstrates what it takes to work the yard at King road auto parts. Photojournalist Joe Cromer has the story.
I've loved junkyards ever since I walked through one when I was 12 years old. Later on, no matter where I lived, I was always buying and selling cars and parts much to the displeasure of local zoning ordinance enforcers. Finally at my half century age, I have a state licensed, zoning approve good-old-boy 2 acre salvage yard. I won't get rich, but I enjoy my work. Ain't life grand!!!
Love to hear it. Keep going brother. I share a similar story and i grew up doing drywall(saw your username) as well what are the odds hahah . I rent a 5 acre lot myself and I’m loving life
Yeah that's me Dylan here I love my loader and you're right guys there ain't no yards out here like this anymore it's what I call a live junkyard, with the EPA cracking down and fines and regulations it shut us down
thats my exact dream. I wish you the best man!
@@DaewooFestiva23 Thanks for the reply! My yard is still going well, although I don't do much business selling parts due to my location up here in the sticks, but I'm my own boss and the big checks come in when I haul in the scrap!
@@maecannan must be a state thing cause i visited a yard just like the one in this video back in 2023, although all of the cars were stacked, 2 each stack.
Good honest work by good honest workers.
Won't know if they are honest people till you try and get something from them
This REALLY REALLY NEEDS MORE VIEWS.
the old guy is like fut thos electro tools need me my boom tank lmao
Takes a special person to do this type of work!! God Bless them!!
Love this , I work in a breakers yard in Ireland, that’s what we call them here, 25 years and I love every single day ,il never leave my job, well done guys great work my friends
Finally a video of a person working in the junkyard. I just see videos of people fucking around and not doing any work at all. There is a real man trying to do some work.
I own a small one but I not a full scale one I disable it myself any time I get once a frame it’s scraped
@@thesusboomerroblox6516 very interesting name for a scrapyard owner lol. you wouldn't happen to be hiring would you? i've always wanted to work in one. admittedly for more of the fun stuff like being the guy in this video who just rolls around in the lifter all day. like he said in the video. no qoutas to fill. just go around and do whatever when someone asks for help. put cars in the crusher, pull stuff off the cars, find neat stuff in the junk, etc. i'd love to own a yard myself and host demo derbies with cars made of barely functional but not good enough to sell parts we pull off our own lot, then after the derby, crush them as normal. seems like a good time. even though i'll be pretty crazy rich with my video game company, i'd still want to own a yard just because it's so neat, even if it turns out to not be profitable. i'd happily sink some money in to keep it going just like giant toy box or something. would also pay more than average yards pay. aside from the fun stuff, it looks like a lot of hard work, and hard workers deserve more pay than anyone, including the owner. that's how i'll do my game company too. the guys who actually make the code and the models and such should get more money than me.
I always worked junk and scrap yards and love it
I love these guys work ethic
It's cool to see how other yards run. We own one in Michigan.
Witch one is it

Alot of people think junkyards and their workers are the pits.
Bottom of the barrel....nothing could be farther from the truth.
These places exist for a reason...parts for some vehicles cannot be bought new, aftermarket, or rebuilt.
This is the only source, and a good yardman keeps a mental inventory so he can go to what he needs, fast.
But the days of instant shredding are here, and the parts yards of old are disappearing fast, as the price per ton goes up.
Great story! This should have its own series on TV. There was a old school junkyard next to where I work. It was exactly like this one! Muddy pathways, tall weeds around the cars, greasy dirty guy that knew were EVERYTHING was. Just think how simple and seemingly happy that Shakey guy is. Has a nasty dirty job out in the elements all day, doing it all his life and seems like the happiest guy in town. Probably never gets mad at anybody. Just flat out guts the job done
5:00 needs to be introduced to a cordless angle grinder. You NEVER go back once you've used one.
exploding angle grinder disks are much scarier than a flame that only shoots one direction in a tiny area
Cordless grinder and cordless impacts make my life so much easier in the yard as a dismantler
And I also don't like regular grinding disk but since I found the steel ones with diamond teeth my grinder is now my best friend
I just worked at a junkyard for the first time today, boy will I tell you that shit is an entire different world. Walked through the office to the garage area, entire floor was muddy af with gas, not water. Engines stacked up on shelves, shit ton of tires in a corner.
How I love RUclips University. Been thinking about a Junkyard after watching this I'm not sure if it's for me not because I mind the hard work. I love and miss working hard cant do this in a chair tho and nobody wants to work these days smh. I think my main problem would be finding employees
Good insight,cheers for the video.
New sub definitely like seeing the team work and friendly ness great video
