    Nice of Julian to acknowledge that he's had RUclips's premier boat rebuilder helping him!

    Nice job on the cat. You saved Julian and his wife a small fortune! Would you consider putting together a list of what you are looking for in your next boat and reviewing it in a video? Length, rig (sloop, ketch, etc.), features it must have, features that would be nice to have and things you do not want.

    great video. Saw you and Ava at the Annapolis boatshow, but you guys were discussing something funny and walking fast, so didn't want to interrupt. It was good to see you guys are real. I've learned lots from your videos and looking forward to the bigger boat you talked about.

    I always enjoy watching Mads work on his, or your boat. He has a calming demeanor while using any material or equipment. I’ve been watching him for years. He shows how regular folk, like me, can tackle most any tasks just by going step by step. Where’s your lovely wife. I hope she is seeing some of the great and beautiful things to do in Charleston and surrounding areas. Have fun in Annapolis, Maryland. That’s where I was born. Good luck to you both.

    Saw you and your wife Eva at the RUclips counter on friday, but had only a short time as I wanted to go sailing, due to the weather that came in over the weekend. So alas didn't get to meet you in person. I would have told you that your videos have inspired me to take on much bigger boat repair projects I typically am not comfortable with..... My new favorite phrase is "What would Mads do? ". Take care hope you get a chance to some Bay sailing, it really is a great location. As of Sunday it IS gusting to 26 so waiting to see if that calms down so I can head out. See you!

    Oh how I do NOT miss this job. Our old boat needed the hull totally stripped. We never did it because of cost and time. Our mechanic said "if we do it, it will be 3 weeks, if you do it, it will be the summer". Either way we'd lose nearly 1/4 of the boating season. He said "Just touch up the areas that need it and move on"...so that's what we did...for years.

    Didn't have a lot of luck with prop speed. Smaller props spin at high rpm and the cavitation that forms on the leading edge of the prop strips it a treat... my thoughts are it's much better suited to bigger boats, but it will be really interesting to see how it performs. I was in the camp that said do the other keel, but, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

    We applied lightspeed on our props this season as an experiment (we had a couple sample sizes laying around) and it did as well as the propspeed we had applied a few season ago. We aren't a fan of using anything but cold zinc spray on the props because eventually the boat sits long enough that something will grow on it and you'll need to scrape it off anyhow; so that expensive propspeed application ends up being removed. YMMV. In our case, we had propspeed on for only about 3 months because we picked up a fishtrap. Goodbye silicone.

    Awesome vid Mads. Question: what is more commonly applied on a saildrive - propspeed or antifouling paint? I noticed you anti-fouled the sail drive. When I lifted my yacht out of the water last year, the boat yard applied new antifouling to the hull, however applied propspeed to both the propeller system and saildrive (as had the previous owner of the yacht).

  • @paulstephens5229
    @paulstephens5229 10 месяцев назад +1

    Looks great, but can I please ask, the keels are only glued in place, there are no fasteners? Seems kind of shortsighted to me. Love your vids

    • @marioneto50
      @marioneto50 10 месяцев назад

      I thought so too, but I realized it's probably a buoyant structure, so the adesive won't have much downward force applied to it when in the water. This would have been different if keels were ballasted.

    • @dirtdart81
      @dirtdart81 10 месяцев назад

      Lots of surface area for that adhesive, and no real forces on it. Fasteners would create a hole in the hull that would need sealed too

    • @realulli
      @realulli 10 месяцев назад

      The point of the glue is to hold the keel in there, for some sideways forces during sailing. It's filled with foam, so I assume it's buoyant, without a lot of downwards force.
      However, why there are no fasteners: it's designed to break off if the boat hits a reef, without damaging the hull. If there were fasteners, you'd probably be looking at a hole in the hull at a time when you least need it. I know there are fasteners with a rated break point, I assume Fountaine Pajot just wanted to save the money. (And in that application, you probably don't need the precision of a rated break point).
