I am glad I found this guide as I am split right now and my guild is pushing me into Resto. There counter to Ele is that I will be OOM half way through the fight. What do I need to do to prevent that? (as of writing this we are currently in Phase 3 of SoM)
Any chance of getting a quick update on this for all the SoM changes? Would love to see it. Played sham on private servers, played rogue for classic and didn't like it, and coming back to shaman for SoM

I would join Tomaka's discord on this question. Apparently, they are not worried about AQ because the resistances are no where near as high than on private servers
You can very easily use totems in suppression room. All the shaman use them in our raids and there are never problems. You just reset them every time you move forward

7:00 I found that a middle of the road approach is best for ele shaman dps logs. If your guild is just fast enough to let you not go oom but also slow enough for you to get use out of your trinkets and doesn't keep pulling constantly, that's probably ideal. This is mainly bc you need to drink more often and need to drop combat to do so and bc you need to place your totems that often (which are a factor concerning the mana issue and concerning no dps GCDs). I had, a few weeks ago, the 2nd highest dps in the world, if you looked at trash + bosses while being sth like 30th on just bosses in a 90 minute BWL run or so. That was with me out dps-ing all other casters and some physicals. Now that group is down to 60 minutes and, my dps plumetted and a few warlocks and mages have surpassed me. (also yeah, not a crazy fast time... try getting an ele alt into a main raid somewhere, lol) Though I guess that's more of a speed clear vs normal clear thing rather than kill speed, per se.
Would you say enhance is top dps behind the scenes with the amount of bonus damage windfury provides to all melee on top of the classes own damage? shit probably adds up just doesnt show on paper...
I actually got rank 3 on Chromaggus, in the beginning. Entirely meaningless but it still felt good ^^ That being said, I never considered meleeing the boss. I just downrank lightning bolt for when he isn't vulnerable to anything I have (so basically for arcane and shadow vuln) and then twist fire totems for fire vuln, frost shock for frost vuln and cooldowns + max rank bolts for nature vuln. But I guess I should join the melees up front and do auto hits while shocking and twisting.
As much as I want to switch from Resto to Ele. I currently top BWL/MC healing only using 15-20 Major Mana pots and 10 Nightfin Soup per raid. That is dirt cheap investment
42:00 At 400-500 spellpower, lightning bolt starts deadling more damage per cast than chain lightning. But yeah, the dps is still higher with chain lightning.
its weird you would list troll as best for the PVE with bez, but i play a taurin and have huge HUGE mana issues on long or even relitively short fights... so having spell haste when im already having to down rank feels like a negative more than a positive. i do understand that you can get out more spells and such in trinket popped times, and i do get as we all get more gear fights are faster so its less of an issue, meaning it may only be a temp issue I will also say you discount war stomp almost entirely in PVE and when im getting in for a fire nova totem/magma totem on big AOE packs i will use it a lot, and its supprising but a lot of badguys even in raids can be stunned by it, so if you over aggro or even if a partymember over aggro's it can be so usefull.
ah and these gear sterotypes last even till this day where warlocks and mages who get get blue parses are still funneled gear compared to "meme" specs pulling purple and orange parses

It's rly a shame that for serious parses u need to go actual extra mile as Ele Shammy. The cost of every raid to be few hundreds of gold... not everyone can afford that :D I might go heal in the end actually because of this

Discussion around 15:00-17:00 is moot. You can just put a Resto shaman in that 4-warlock group, get tranquil air, and have a healer to boot. Not really a point in favour of Ele. It's a point in favour of Shaman in general, which guilds already love anyway.
It depends on how many resto shamans and total healers you want in your raid. With 10 healers, it means 30 people needs totems (dps+tanks) so 7x4=7 groups if you sacrifice 2. But if you run the typical setup of 6 shamans, 3 priests, 1 druid, then the ele shaman can be the 7th one, in a group with mages and warlocks.
Additionally, the Elemental shaman boosts that group's DPS from what it was with 5 locks producing ~80% output. 4 locks at 100% plus the ele damage> 5 locks at limited output.
@@DefcampMelderonTV - I want to to be clear that I'm not trying to slag on Ele, or any hybrid style class. I play one. However that's still fallacious reasoning due to ignoring the larger argument. You've created a false dichotomy. By putting a Resto in that group, you still have the locks at "~100% output". That doesn't magically change if it's an Ele. And thus, you can have all the locks primed _and_ have a "better" DPS in another slot in the raid -- by having a Resto perform the role you're describing. The _only_ time this argument applies is if you're already overfull on healers in the manner Tomaka describes.

However, I can do something easy: let's pretend a lock's DPS at 100% capacity is 100 DPS. 5 locks in a group w/o TAT would be producing 80 DPS (80% capacity due to having to reduce damage b/c of threat) each for a total of 400 DPS. 4 locks at 100% capacity at 100 DPS each with TAT = 400 DPS, the same. If there is a resto shaman, there is no additional DPS. Now, we replace with an ele that can produce 50 DPS. The group now produces 450 DPS. Either way you cut it, 450 > 400. I hope this helps
BS, it would no benefit you to bring a shammy instead of an extra warlock to increase overall raid damage the ONLY thing you are doing is gimping your self with increasing every individual warlocks threat to Pump its way better to divide the treat among the warlocks but to Push out more. there is Zero point of having a hybrid take a dps slot. that shammy is Not fighting over a warlock slot in raid hes taking that friendly mage slot that been so nice in raids and are there as a gimic.

How to get top parses: Be in a fast guild and get fed PI.
With a faster clear time an ele sham would get prio for PI. I think they explained how in shorter fights the burst is more valuable.
True, but faster guilds also have less downtime so you cant keep up either way mana wise
45:50 in my experience i recieve the clearcasting as i hit, not as i finish the cast...
Pretty sure it happens as you cast, LB is pretty quick so the "reactable" distance for determining if it's on hit or cast is pretty close.

I think they were accounting for can't time and travel time as CL is obviously faster cast and instant travel!

1:23:30 I'd go fire nova totem into sapper into improved ankh. Fire nova + sapper usually does 30-40% of my dmg on that fight ^^

Ele generally do more damage than locks, bro, especially in shorter fights
