@KogaSoda2I understand the sentiment. Nothing teaches more than experience. I’ve never played shaman before and I leveled one up to 16 going elemental and I decided I wanted a side enhancement shaman as well so made a new one and it feels so much more chill. I’m sure later, like his guide claimed, it balance back out, but I just enjoy enhancement so far. I too enjoy playing against the meta and creating my own build that better fits my play style per class, and hc is a perfect setting to play at one’s own pace. Usually play alliance but since I’ve come over for the shaman play, I almost don’t want to go back to my other alliance characters. Just check in with guild friends, make a few flips on Ah, disenchant some things, and head back over to the horde! Cheers my man, thinking of going board and sword and healing/dps for dungeons! 👌👍
Bro I just wanna say, 4 years later, all your guides still have so much depth and substance. The work you've put in just makes these guides so much more immaculate and the outside sourced and credited knowledge only helps to increase the flavour of these guides. The fact that you even have a "Progression Weapon obtaining" section is just mind blowing. I've looked for stuff like this for so long, every other guide just says "Get Nimble Stopwatch, get Pre-Bis, Raid" its so refreshing to see little sections like that. Bravo and thankyou for these gems of videos, easy subscribe from me.
Getting prepared for the official hardcore servers brought me here. Great guide very useful. I’m not sure if you have time to do guides anymore but a hardcore shaman guide would be epic. Thanks again.
This absolutely floored me. I was so confused from other guides, but this is no BS great advice all the way through with visuals for people like me who need to see things to believe it. Also HUGE props to the leveling guide. It's unbelievable. Thanks so much, more than earned a subscribe!
Love the idea of the archetypes at the start. A bit of RP goes a very long way to increasing class fantasy immersion and immersion in general while leveling.
For whatever reason all the previous guides I’ve found seem to just tap dance around what totems you should use while leveling, or they just expect you to know that; icy veins and wowhead included. Thank you for just making it super simple!
Like so many others, I have watched a lot of guides. This was easily the most well-done guide I have seen..for any game. Just obviously put a ton of work in and the production was top notch. Plus, it's actually helpful and current information. Easy sub
This is, hands down, the best guide on leveling a Shaman in classic. I'm truly impressed and thankfull, especially for the priority section in totem useage (or mana management in general) while leveling. I'm by no means new to WoW, played classic a lot and also considered myself somewhat efficent if it comes to resource management while grinding / leveling. But this guide helped me to advance even further in that section and allows me to pull at least 3-4 mobs more befor i have to regen back to full, which is a massive boost if it comes to leveling time. Thank you so much.
I appreciate the amount of time and effort put into this video. As a Vanilla Shaman and long-time shaman player. I still learned some things from this which surprised me. I would like to add that some consideration should be made for a dungeon-grind spec (resto) for leveling. Not something that would merit a full breakdown, but more mention than you placed in the video. A dungeon resto grind build starts enhancement for melee totem talents, then you go all the way down resto. And even though you're resto and healing, you're still in melee and dropping melee cleave totems. Also, always take staves over 1h+shield with this as there are many staves along the way which have excellent base damage to assist with clear speeds when not casting heals. And you shouldn't be getting hit in the face with a tank anyway.
Jeeesuuuus Christ! I feel, Melderon, that this was exactly what was needed to fully prepare my all around knowledge of the shaman class. You are seriously awesome! Thank you, and all o the people who has helped you, for making all these shaman videos, the melee mechanics guide, pre-hotting threat guide etc. etc. You are the shaman king, thank you so so much!!!!
I'm just 15 minutes through this wonderful guide and I'm blown away by the detail BUT EVEN MORE by the crystalclear presentation and summarizing. I've seen a lot of your older videos which are also bursting with facts and knowledge but were also sometimes a little overwhelming. This is is a next step, I absolutely love it, it's so well made, you can see all the effort put into it. I've just played vanilla briefly back then and now I want to go back at it as a Tauren. I felt a little unsure about this adventure with all the ambitious people in these realms and me not knowing if I could keep up. But with this guide I feel much better, I'm being brave and going to be a shaman out there! Not sure though about PVP though, you hear all these horror stories about ganking. Is it so annoying? And is it the same on RP PVP? I'm in Europe and we got one too now and I'm thinking maybe players are a little more mature over there and PVP will not be that bad. I'd like to feel the tension of a possible fight breaking out at anytime... Sorry, got a little off topic. Like I said: Great, great guide, can't thank you enough!!!
This was an amazing guide and a very well put presentation, dude. I can tell you have invested a lot of time into making it, thus it is highly appreciated. I believe I am ready to level my Shaman in Classic!
I’m watching this with the idea my Shaman will be my alt to level when me and my brother are both online but this made me seriously re-evaluate. Appreciate balanced guides like this more than words can say, thanks!!
Just want to say thank you for all your work on this back in 2019 its what pushed me to main shaman. Now im rewatching prepping for the classic classic launch. Your guides are best.
Man, can't wait to play finally. I never had the chance to play this game back in the day, too costly. Now I got the money, but barely the time. So these guides are extremely important for me to know how to play from the start and make my time as efficient as possible.
This is an awesome vid! Seriously. I think its nuts that you have explored each build so much haha! I also appreciate that you explored so many types of builds. Ele/Enh, Enh/Resto, Ele/Resto, 1h shield, 2h...etc... Also, priority in stats for different builds, and what order to cast spells in. Super helpful.
You probably don't play Magic: the Gathering, but man you sound like Reid Duke. He's one of the most loved MTG professionals. Thanks for the videos, great quality and as a physicist I really loved your thorough scientific approach on all your videos.

Fantastic content, as usual. Keep up the great work! As a side note, I'm a bit surprised to see Agility so highly valued over Strength for enhancement leveling. Seems like the decision would be analogous to windfury vs rockbiter (i.e. burst potential vs reliability). There's clearly a great feedback loop when flurry is part of the equation, but given the "random" nature of it and how low the % yields are for agility at low levels, I can't help but wonder what kind of data exists comparing the two in a leveling scenario... There's more data science to be done!
If flurry didn't exist, yes you are correct, it would be a play style choice. But since Flurry does exist, it becomes an actual mathematical increase to speed
Definetely much respect for the effort, now also rly enjoyed the content. I can be picky when it comes to longer content. Similar with books it just has to click. And this video right up my alley
Hey man, this video and others have been an amazing resource for me and my buddy trying to level hardcore characters. Just wanted to say thank you for the tremendous effort you put into these guides and I hope your still winning your battles with addiction.
Hey awesome vid, you just did a master class where you were talking about leveling as ele up to 5/5 flurry and I thought you might want a reminder to post a pinned comment or something on it. edit hmm nvm looks like it was referenced
What’s the etiquette on loot if you are Enhancement but in a leveling dungeon group as a healer? You are really there for Enhancement gear, but should you also need on caster gear for healing or would that be seen as rude?
Great question, this will totally depend on your group comp and you! If you want to do this then be upfront with your group about it. Let everyone know that "hey, I am leveling enh and there are a few drops in here that I would like to need on" more times than not, folks will understand. Everyone's running the same grind as you are so if you are up front about it then it shouldn't matter. Let the dice decide after that
Hey, thanks for an awesome guide, helped me out a lot. I have a quick input on the mana spring totem 20 sec rule.. I'm currently 36 enhancement shaman, and I started timing how long the totem effected me in every fight. Assuming you cast it before engaging and also counting the time after the mob is dead, looting and running away from the mob out of the totem range, It almost always effects me more than 20 sec. I am using lockseys training stick witch is presumably best in slot for my level.. also following the recommended rotation. Cheers!
How does this compare to restorative totems into clear casting? Enhance seems to offer lots of little boosts, the crit to me seems marginal, flurry is 25% speed on only 3 strikes which means with 10 crit chance it should work out to be 7.5% more dmg overall on autos, compared to cheaper totems, higher dps fire totems, not having to stack the stat that requires so much synergy (agility), and clear casting to abuse rank 1s into max rank chain/bolt. My second character will be a resto shaman for pve and pvp, thanks for all the topnotch guides defcamp/meld you guys have the very best shaman guides out there!
Wow jesus. Just discovered your channel. Damn that's some real systematic scientific shit! I totally love it! Your way of teaching is superb, I assume you work in education somehow, your awesome!
I am playing shaman, I have been test playing on lights hope for the last week or so, I know the private servers are not bang on accurate to the classic servers but I found one hand and shield more effective than two handed as you often get multiple mob pulls and one hander shield had way less risk and down time than two handed. This is reflected in what you have said and the stats you have provided. There is just one thing and it should not be such an issue in classic as I intend to level fairly quickly where as the test server I was on had establish high level guys already so getting ganked by higher level or even just even leveled guys with 60th level guys kitting them out, and that is improved ghost wolf was a life saver, for getting out of trouble even in pve fights I could drop an earth bind move a little and with a 1 sec cast escape without getting hit for a daze. Time not spent running back to a corpse if your looking to level fast is time well spent, you also (I did anyway) use that initial "well I am dead now let me make a quick cup of tea" Not that there is wrong with having a nice cup of tea, but it fragmented my game roll I was on. Anyway I love the vids and cannot wait to get my shaman started keep up the good work. :)
Hey, on the slides it says that for level 40, 2H Enhancement and Elemental have the exact same time to level (2.746379987). Just curious if this was a mistake or not, seems a little odd that they are the exact same, since I don't think any others are the exact same.
Once again, awesome video. You guys are really knocking it out of the park again and again. Question, what race are you running and why? Also what's your opinion on professions? Don't know if u have covered it in any of your videos.
I'm rolling orc, primarily for class fantasy reasons. Stun resist is great though. As far as professions, I'd say LW/skinning the herb/alc or mining/eng late game
@@DefcampMelderonTV Would you recommend two gathering professions, e.g. skinning and mining, or skinning and herb, and then dropping one or both late game for crafting profession(s), or do you think LW for example would be valuable/ convenient to have while leveling?
Yeah 10s of gold it would seem. Remember this is an extrapolation. You will rarely constantly fight mobs as I did for this test. So the saving may be a bit less
Thank you so much for all the work and effort you put into this! Although I find it kind of strange, after the countless hours invested, when it comes to the addons you don't actually recommend specific ones. I'm completely brand new to WoW, and coming from FFXIV, I have absolutely 0 clue which addons are best for "Totem Timer" or "DPS/HPS" etc.. Could you or anyone recommend the specific ones? Thanks again!
Thanks! This video helped me a TON! I'm gonna level Resto/Ele - Emphasis on Restoration towards Dungeons, because I am always slow at leveling and I love enjoying the dungeons along the way (it's part of why I play the game - the end game isn't everything). So, this highly analytical guide really helped me understand some struggles and differences between the spec choices.
Watching this while leveling my shaman on classic fresh, its gonna help so much! Quick question though, how come we dont take improved ghost wolf for shorter cast times?
Because after you get 5/5 Shield Specialization, 5/5 Thundering Strikes, 3/3 Improved Lightning Shield, you're left with 1 point at level 23 before Flurry. I personally would rather get more DPS with Enhancing Totems (which you can 2/2 at lvl 34) since it improves BOTH SoE and GoA. To me, that's worth more since I never use GW again after getting my mount. My personal choice, of course. If you'd rather have Imp GW, go for it. But Improved LS (because of its high DpME) and Enhancing Totems, are worth much more to me. Now, if this is hardcore, ImpGW is likely better.
As to the Enh talents: what is the value of 2/2 in enhancing totems? I know it is not part of anyone's leveling guides, but 15% effectiveness from two of a Shaman's primary totems seem beneficial. Maybe 15% strength and agility from those totems doesn't provide enough attack power and crit to make worth taking over anticipation for the 2% dodge? Wouldn't enhancing totems be more consistent than 2 points in anticipation since anticipation only gets value in encounters when the Shaman dodges, whereas the Shaman will always gain the stats from the Shaman buffs which would allow the Shaman to kill the mob faster?

Great video, appreciate the work put in! Can't wait to put all the knowledge to use :)
Man this guide is insane ! Well done !
Can I love?!??! Omg, too excited to watch a 45min video
Amazing timing and analysis! Thanks again dude
Just want to say that u did an amazing job here lad. Thanks for that
What’s the etiquette on loot if you are Enhancement but in a leveling dungeon group as a healer? You are really there for Enhancement gear, but should you also need on caster gear for healing or would that be seen as rude?
Great question, this will totally depend on your group comp and you! If you want to do this then be upfront with your group about it. Let everyone know that "hey, I am leveling enh and there are a few drops in here that I would like to need on" more times than not, folks will understand. Everyone's running the same grind as you are so if you are up front about it then it shouldn't matter. Let the dice decide after that
I usually only roll need on things that for the role I am for that dungeon unless the group is cool with me rolling beforehand
Cheers!
Awesome guide as always Melderon! Also love the thumbail! 😍
I was inspired by you!
Thanks for the very helpful guide. This young orc shaman sets out in the valley of trials
May your blades never dull
50k views and deserves 50k likes good work
Likes are for personal use basically. Doesn't do anything for the creator. Puts your liked videos in a sort of liked playlist.
Really like your arachtype reference!
Dude, you are the Steven Hawking of Shaman.
Thank. You. Very. Much.
Wish there were more of these for different classes!
Fantastic stuff. Can't wait for Tuesday.
Wow jesus. Just discovered your channel. Damn that's some real systematic scientific shit! I totally love it! Your way of teaching is superb, I assume you work in education somehow, your awesome!
incredible guide , so much better than kargoz shaman guide
Thank you very much for putting so much time into this!
Just want to say the website and this video......EXACTLY what i was looking for. Great work Im a sub now

Hey, on the slides it says that for level 40, 2H Enhancement and Elemental have the exact same time to level (2.746379987). Just curious if this was a mistake or not, seems a little odd that they are the exact same, since I don't think any others are the exact same.
Wow! Good catch. That's actually accurate! They have the same average but different trail times
What's the magnitude of the economic advantage of 1h+shield leveling?
A few gold coins or a significant sum?
Seemed like 8-10g on the journey to 60, so not an insignificant sum but not a significant one either
Yeah 10s of gold it would seem. Remember this is an extrapolation. You will rarely constantly fight mobs as I did for this test. So the saving may be a bit less
Right on time!! Thank you guys!
New Melderon guide! Get hype!!!
Because everything is still being developed nor do we know which add-ons will work from retail and private servers
Well said, Im loving leveling up my shams..great information, subbed .
Holy shit, hats off to you man. Thanks for the time investment
@@DefcampMelderonTV Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question, greatly appreciated!
In duo and trio, absolutely! Solo it's a bit iffy but take the points out of imp LS or Dodge of you want it
amazing guide, picked up plenty, thanks alot!
great guide, thanks for the vid. although i find discussing "leveling" talents and then displaying 51 point builds xD
Good guide, reaffirms that Im playing my shaman correctly
