You are a doll! First saw you in a Laura Horn class I took and as I near retirement I am loving painting and creative arts of all kinds. I’ve done art with friends, my grandchildren but never took my own soul on this journey until now. I love it. My son encouraged me to “you be you ma” and teach an older, rather uninspired group to have fun with art. I’m a volunteer “teacher” and I am loving it! We are all laughing and creating with paints, colored pencils, all mediums. One lovely lady has some cognitive issues and I substituted water color pencils for her, (as watercolor paints were a challenge for her) and she was smitten! It made my heart so happy! I sense your joy and kind openness as you share your world and that is such a lovely gift. Love your generous and joyful heart and I also love my vast collection of “someday I will be able to paint books” and tea/coffee time with them is like sitting with a friend. Thank you for sharing your world and inspiration! ❤
I've been following you for several months. I love that you love Jesus! I could see Jesus in you from the first time I watched you on RUclips. Thank you for sharing your gifts ( art and your infectious, joyful personality) with us. I'm 62 years old and I've always loved art. Most of my life has been spent working full time as a teacher and raising my family. I'm still teaching and caring for my familly, but in the last year I know God has been calling me to be more serious about learning to paint. I've been taking one on one art lessons from an amazing teacher and I try never to miss one of your videos. Thanks again, Sandi! You're so gifted and so much fun!
Molly, what a great comment to get first thing this morning! That really blesses me that you could see Jesus in me from the first time 😭. I love that you’re jumping back into art later in life - it’s NOT too late - enjoy it Molly!
As a graphic designer that never considered herself a "real artist" you have changed and inspired me. Ive been painting again! thanks isn't a strong enough word! Your vlogs are so inspiring thank you for being you and giving a 30 year old back her passion.
All these books look cool. Thanks for sharing! The Eastern Birds book and the Charles Reid book remind me of two friends of mine, and Maud's work is incredible! ❤️👍
Thank you! Enjoyed. Peggy Crow all the way! Charles Reid has always been a favourite of mine for watercolour! Love Mauds sweet story. I'm from Ontario, Canada and I've always known her style since I was a little girl. Always loved folk art back then for the simplistic style that I would try to copy but with my own twist! The little girl artist! She lives on...
I’m going to have to find your video that mentions that Hockney book! I have it and look at it often! He’s one of my all time favorite painters and have made treks just to see his shows several times. At some point I’ll make a list of some of his best books and videos. He is a true master!
Sandi I just love you 😘 I am only on book number one , PEGGY and I am already in there knowing I’m gonna want all your books…….. ⭐️ that picture of the lady in the garden and the picture of her with her friend….. it made me get emotional … pure genius inspiration of work! That you see and I can see too.. I JUST LOVE WATCHING YOU AND WHAT YOU BRING IN YOUR VIDEOS! You are a blessing to have found 🌹🍎💕❤️ xxx LY
I'm not even a painter but I have gotten a lot of the books you love. Right now I am cutting up the pictures in my large size reference books to make collages...
I have recently discovered you Sandi on RUclips. I am an artist/retired art educator who lives in Iowa along the Mississippi River. I know I need to create a space in my home that is for making art and seeing your work Studio is swell, very encouraging.
can never have too many art books 😀 that Sarah Wimperis looks gorgeous! creating def helps with dealing with pain from the MS, its a great free distraction having a bird ref book is a must for me, helps in identification and drawing
This is amazing Sandi! But I can't find the list of books?! I'm not great with technology...stupid!! Lol I just can't figure things that everyone else gets!! I used to paint in hyperrealism but now I do abstract and I find it much more freeing. I have a hard time with being motivated though cuz I'm disabled and I can't make art without my Mom's help. She's 82 and she's a beautiful little woman and she sets up everything and I do the art. There are a lot of days when I'm too ill to paint or draw so we'll have to try on a different day. I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for my Mom cuz she's saved my life so many times! I love her dearly and I'm so blessed to have her in my life. Thanks Sandi, you're the best! Take care!
Much love for introducing me to Lilias Trotter - have purchased her biography for my mother's birthday and already can't wait for her to finish it 😉 Just purchased a couple of David Hockney books for myself after watching your last video but I will keep all these artists in mind for my next splurge! Also your enthusiasm really is beautiful and so so infectious - always leave your videos feeling inspired and motivated but also very calm and okay just being (and seeing so much beauty). Thank you ❤ !!!!
Hi Sandi! Alway ask people to subscribe and like the video at the beginning, I can’t believe you don’t have more views and followers, your videos are great!!
@@sandihester it’s a beautiful movie. I’ve seen it multiple times, I can’t get enough of it. 🙂 It was actually filmed in the province I live….about 30 mins away.
My absolute favorite book was the art of Peggy Kroll Roberts. Her paintings just amaze me!! Also, my favorite videos to watch are your Paint with me or process videos 😍😍😍
That Maud Lewis book looks really good, her story sounds really beautiful, I need tp learn more about her. Thank you for sharing these📚And you didn’t ask, but I’ll tell ya: my favorite thing about shopping for art / reference / inspiration books is that as an artist, I can make it tax write off!😂🥳
Love seeing your reference books! I love books! Lillian Potter biography sounds touching! Looking forward to reading her book! Maud Lewis and Fairfield Porter looked like excellent books, also. Thank you for sharing!❤
I enjoyed this video so much. You've introduced me to artists that I had not heard of and now I look forward to learning more about them. The book about Lilias Trotter is the one that I will look for and purchase. I am always inspired by memoirs/biographies of the artist and their work. Thank you for taking the time to share this. I look forward to your videos every week.
I like the perennials book. I like coloring flowers and animals and Christmas in coloring books. I know very little about flowers so i am happy when I can find them in the 2 flower books i do have. I think you have definitely encouraged me to keep an eye out for reference books.
Thank you so much Sandi for you're generosity and all the time you put into these videos .you're videos have helped me so much to allow myself to have fun and joy .to paint in ALL the colours and to keep doing it .please keep on keeping on 🤗❤️
I loved the Lillian Trotter book, not just for her beautiful art, but her spiritual quotes as well. I sure enjoy your happy, sunny videos! You make me smile.☺
My favorite is Charles Reid. I have Painting What You Want to See. I don't usually learn a lot from reading in instructional book, but his was spot on. I paint in watercolor, but enjoy your channel.
awesome love all your post so inspired with your work .Maud Lewis most defiantly i remember my art teach had a couple of prints around the studio class she would always walk by them and say breath relax draw what you see not what you think you see. lol thank you bringing that fond memory and lesson back.
The book about Maud Lewis looks awesome. After a quick search I actually found several books about her, and one of them is about her home which she decorated from top to bottom, I think I'll have to buy that. I love art books that tells about the artist life and also shows their home. I have one book like that about Tasha Tudor which I love.
Sandi this was the most inspiring video. I love books. The video went by so fast. I love all the books. I cannot pick a favorite. But I remember reading and watching many videos on Maud Lewis. She was so amazing. I have arthritis myself and sometimes painting can hurt my hands days later. But then times it does nothing. I enjoy art and look forward to Friday's for your videos. You are such a cool artist. Love your sweet personality. Anytime you want to show more art book videos I am in! 🙂🙂🙂🎨🎨🎨
ooooh i adore Mary feddon and David hockney you are my hero, I've not long found you and some of your work reminds me of Mary Feddon Thank you for sharing, I love your work!
As much as I enjoy your videos, Sandi, I'm a little saddened that we take up so much of your time. If I could package up some extra Time and send it to you to use on your art, I so would. Your work is delightful and inspiring - unique to you and unique in how it conveys a sense of life, an energy and vision. I wish it didn't have to compete with us.
Loved the books you reviewed, must now go searching for the Lillian trotter book, a blossom in the desert. What a discovery, loved her biography story, what a woman, thanks Sandi xx
I love watching you all the way from the UK x you’ve kept me company as I’ve had Covid x you have inspired me and cheered me up so so much x you are such wonderful company! Can’t wait to get my energy back to get my paints out x loved these book but I’m on an art supply and book ban but no harm keeping a wish list! I love love your videos ❤️ xx
P K Robert’s Book👍 …you’ve really helped me, thanks. Love all the information & demos. Would always appreciate design advice. Your paintings totally ROCK.
Thanks for sharing all the books. My favorite is Peggy Kroll Roberts (must be out of print...I can't find...yet!) I'm so glad I discovered your channel --- you have imparted so much good info and direction. Now I'm going to practice more "Loose Painting"!!! Look forward to your next RUclips!!
oh my word, I love the books. I especially felt so connected to the Maude Lewis story and book. So, much in fact, I had to purchase it! Thank you so very much for all you do. Your sharing has directly impacted me and my work. I will say it as often as I can, you are a treasure!
Thanks! I love seeing which books other artists enjoy. I was pleased to see that you had included Maud Lewis. I’m from Nova Scotia, now in the US, and love to see her honored and loved by other artists. A very special little lady~
I loved the S Wimperis and C. Reid books. The video was very enjoyable. Thank you! I just subscribed. You are very enthusiastic and inspiring and like a ray of sunshine. Have a great Sunday.
Enjoyed that... thanks... will try and source the books on Peggy Roberts and Charles Reid.. they were my faves... also love the story of Maude.. and her art... PS... love your colourful art too.. very inspirational... keep on keeping on.. cheers..😊😊🤗
Really enjoyed this video. It was interesting to hear about your 'go to' weeks. When I found out about Maud Lewis, I did the same thing and read and viewed all I could find. What an amazing woman. I am a 'colorist,'' and love pastels --- my favorite art books are by Wolf Kahn and books about Pierre Bonnard, but it's hard to narrow the books down. I LOVE David Hockney - his pools, his dachshunds, his polaroids. Just fyi ...I've checked out some other channels speaking about 'art books' and was surprised to see that for most, they were collecting Disney/cartoon type books. I had never considered them art books, but obviously many do! x
Thank you for this video, like I said before I feel like Im learning sooo much from you!!!! My favorite book from today might be Maude Lewis. The art and then they story about her I love.
Watching this video of your favorite artists that inspire you, makes me wonder when my favorite artist, who inspires me, will publish her book....I know it would be a huge job......but I would love a book of your paintings to curl up with..........
OH!!!!! Loved this video! The books I LOVED the most were "A Blossom in the Desert", I, too am a Born-again Christian, and love to hear about missionary work AND artist's testimonies all wrapped up in one! praise Jesus! -- and Peggi Kroll Roberts- painting loosely is so inspiring to me! I need more of that! and the third one that speaks to me is Maud Lewis's book (I saw the movie of her life a few years ago! Fascinating! - and would totally purchase both of these books- I also buy thrift store books and, in our community, we have a place by the hardware store where people leave their magazines that they don't want anymore- and you can take them, trade them, etc. I choose the ones that stand out to me- animals and people and landscapes, etc. So inspiring as well. :) Thanks for all you are doing! YOU are so very Inspiring!
What a wonderful eye opener! I have never really looked at art books before but your video on loose painting in which you referenced that chaps book keeps coming to mind when I look at views/people. As a child I would rip up most of my art work because it wasn't perfect to me. Your approach has really inspired me and I have asked for some art supplies for my birthday this week. Thank you so much for sharing.
Hello Sandi ! Thank you for another lovely film. I have soooo enjoyed looking at your inspiring art books. It’s always good to see you in your light-filled studio. Take care of yourself and keep losing yourself in you art.
Hello from Australia. I thought this video was great. I will check out Charles Reid's books. I'm just getting into watercolour & I will check out my local second hand shops for inspiration books. What a good idea you gave with the birds & perennials reference books you showed in this video.
Hi Sandi, The Charles Reid book really peaked my interest. I liked it because it was so loose and that is just what I need. I love the second hand store idea. You are so inspiring yourself! Loose, loose, loose is my goal! Thanks sweet lady!!
Thanks so much for the leaf thru. There are no physical book stores in my area any longer. I miss sitting down and leafing thru books to buy. Watching them I got inspired. I'd love to see more. Would you consider putting together one of your own? A book on the paintings on your website, put me on the list.
You can never go wrong with a book - biography - art - reference - etc! I still have the first art book I purchased - Will Barnet - Woman Reading is on the cover (and inside)and it still makes me smile to see it. Art books inspire, give respite, fuel our dreams, and make us strive to improve. Thank you for sharing. You are appreciated. ( as is Cooper! give him a pat.
Thank you Sandi, being in Australia I hadn’t come across any of these books. They all look amazing. This is my current favourite A Painted Landscape: Across Australia from Bush to Coast.
Loved all the suggestions in this video! I just added the Maud Lewis book to my Amazon cart. I love the innocent, sweet nature of her work. Things I’ve purchased because of your videos: “Brighten the Corner were You Are” by Carol Bruneau (book about Maud Lewis’s life), Mary Feddon book, Eastern Birds book, Chinese brushes, Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic paints, black mixed media paper pads, small, medium and HUGE sketchbooks. You inspire me so much with your art and videos!!!
I’m so interested in learning more about Maud! Can’t wait to explore her world. Sandi, I have no doubt you’ll reach 10K subscribers by the end of the year. I remember when you had about 1,200 and look how far you’ve come!!
I enjoyed this video and many others. Mahali for the inspiration! ❤ Also I'd be interested in the drawing heads book personally. I miss having a library since I've moved to a very humid place, so this video helped me live vicariously through you. :)
Dear Sandi Thank you for sharing your favorite art books. Loved to see this video! Thought you might like one of my favorite books aswell: Xenia Hausner "You & I" Editor is "Prestel".
Sandi, this was such an enjoyable vlog. Thank you for sharing your top favourite art books. Out of all the books you shared, I was drawn to ‘A Blossom in the Desert’ about the Christian artist Lilias Trotter. I’m intrigue about her story too. I own the DVD about Maud Lewis called ‘Maud’. I have watched it multiple times. I like her work. The book you have on Maud is also an inspiring one. Your husband was very thoughtful buying this for you, and kind hearted giving a copy to the private school library. Look forward to your next vlog 🌻
Thank you Sandi for these recommendations. I found a bundle with two Lilias Trotter books on her site for 25 bucks with free shipping. I had never heard of her and I'm excited to learn more about her. I will recommend a book by Henry Issacs called Travel Notes.
You’re so welcome Dana and that’s a great deal you got 🤗! I hope you enjoy them as much as I have! And thank you for the recommendation- can’t wait to look it up!
@@sandihester yay! Also, I just got a book on artist Nell Blaine by Martica Sawin. It's gorgeous. I think you'd enjoy it. I had never heard of her until recently.
Love this! I'm a huge fan of Maud Lewis' artwork and recently purchased a book called Capturing Joy: The Story of Maud Lewis. It's actually a children's book but if anyone is interested in seeing her amazing artwork, it's very affordable and chock full of wonderful pieces. Also, highly recommend Maria Sibylla Merian if anyone is looking for floral inspiration, she was an artist/scientist in the 1600's and her stuff is incredible. It is highly detailed, which isn't my jam but such beautiful work, very inspiring as well. And Charles Reed! Wow. Been watching your video catalog and can't thank you enough, I know it's a ton of work but you are appreciated!
Hi Sandi! I am a subscriber and I really enjoy your videos. I think you’re funny and a beautiful soul! I’m more into fiber arts and am always knitting away while viewing. I dabble in painting, but mostly like to see you, your studio, love you aesthetic and your love of life! So thanks for spreading joy!🤩
Oh I love that you shared. The Lilias Trotter book made me cry…. This is exactly how I feel. I always liked drawing but I just put it aside. My parents were missionaries and I’ve felt so “guilty “ for not being one…so dumb. Thanks for turning me onto her am going to try to find her books.
I hope you’re able to find her books and I hope you enjoy them! I think like Lilias, you can find ways to do both - life allows for lots of time to incorporate art - you just have to be creative about it.
This is a beautiful collection of art books ! I always watch your video when it pops up on Friday but I’m in bed so I always forget to leave a comment :/
I have looked at that Maud Lewis book online. I live on the Canadian border and am a rug hooker. She has inspired many especially in the Canadian Maritimes.Canada has even used her images on postal stamps.....This may be the day to buy that if I can find it, A Valentine present to myself! LOL.... PS..... I love your videos. Keep going.....XO

Oh man Heather - THANK YOU so much - you are so kind friend! Oh my, can't wait for you to get that Maude book - eeeeeeee! you're going to love it!
All inspiring but the story and art of Lillias Trotter speaks to my heart ❤️
Yes!!!!! Me too!
Thanks! I love seeing which books other artists enjoy. I was pleased to see that you had included Maud Lewis. I’m from Nova Scotia, now in the US, and love to see her honored and loved by other artists. A very special little lady~
Awe - I love that! Yes, she’s special for sure ❤️
I love art books and have quite a collection. The local library book sale has bought my bookshelves to the bursting point. 😆
Ohhhhh, hmm, that would be great to go to a library sale!!!
I loved the S Wimperis and C. Reid books. The video was very enjoyable. Thank you! I just subscribed. You are very enthusiastic and inspiring and like a ray of sunshine. Have a great Sunday.
Awe - thank you Valerie!!! I appreciate the kind words and thank you for subscribing 🤗❤️
Enjoyed that... thanks... will try and source the books on Peggy Roberts and Charles Reid.. they were my faves... also love the story of Maude.. and her art... PS... love your colourful art too.. very inspirational... keep on keeping on.. cheers..😊😊🤗
Thank you so much Janet!!
Just fyi ...I've checked out some other channels speaking about 'art books' and was surprised to see that for most, they were collecting
Disney/cartoon type books. I had never considered them art books, but obviously many do! x
oops ... I meant 'go to 'BOOKS' not weeks.
That is interesting about the Disney books 🤔. It was sooo hard to narrow them down. I was hoping I didn’t share too many
I love your books !! Cake decorating books are also beautiful and inspiring
I could totally see cake books being inspiring!
Charles Reid! Love him! Love YOU!
Thank you!!!! ❤️
Kelli, I’m so glad you enjoyed it ❤️❤️❤️
What a wonderful eye opener!
Awe - that's awesome - I hope you have fun with those are supplies - just enjoy creating. I'm glad you like the art books!
Thank you Sandi for making your videos so informative,I look forward to seeing your latest every week, they’re great fun too x😍
❤️❤️❤️ Thank you Wendy!
Hello Sandi ! Thank you for another lovely film. I have soooo enjoyed looking at your inspiring art books. It’s always good to see you in your light-filled studio. Take care of yourself and keep losing yourself in you art.
Oh, thanks Judith!
I enjoyed your video. I just got a wonderful book of John Singer Sargent portraits in charcoal. It is great.
Ohhhhhhh - that sound amazing!!!
Hello from Australia. I thought this video was great. I will check out Charles Reid's books. I'm just getting into watercolour & I will check out my local second hand shops for inspiration books. What a good idea you gave with the birds & perennials reference books you showed in this video.
Thank you all the way to Australia 🤗!
Hi Sandi, The Charles Reid book really peaked my interest. I liked it because it was so loose and that is just what I need. I love the second hand store idea. You are so inspiring yourself! Loose, loose, loose is my goal! Thanks sweet lady!!
Awe - thank you Theresa! Glad you liked it!
Thanks so much for the leaf thru. There are no physical book stores in my area any longer. I miss sitting down and leafing thru books to buy. Watching them I got inspired. I'd love to see more. Would you consider putting together one of your own? A book on the paintings on your website, put me on the list.
I do want to make a book sometime
You can never go wrong with a book - biography - art - reference - etc! I still have the first art book I purchased - Will Barnet - Woman Reading is on the cover (and inside)and it still makes me smile to see it. Art books inspire, give respite, fuel our dreams, and make us strive to improve. Thank you for sharing. You are appreciated. ( as is Cooper! give him a pat.
I’ll definitely give Coop a Pat for you 🤗. I love that you still have your first art book!!
Thank you Sandi, being in Australia I hadn’t come across any of these books. They all look amazing. This is my current favourite A Painted Landscape: Across Australia from Bush to Coast.
Yes - I’ve wanted to get that book!!!!!!
Great info video. I went online used bookstore and found some of your recommended books for a very good price! Thanks again
Eeeeeee! So glad to hear that 🤗
Loved all the suggestions in this video!
Wow Desiree!!!!! So glad there’s been that much inspo from here!! Hope you enjoy the Maud book!
I’m so interested in learning more about Maud! Can’t wait to explore her world. Sandi, I have no doubt you’ll reach 10K subscribers by the end of the year. I remember when you had about 1,200 and look how far you’ve come!!
Awe - Stacie, you’ve been with me ALL this time 😭😭😭 - THANK YOU!!! There are a lot of bio vids on RUclips about Maud - I’ve watched them all!
You had me at Fairfield Porter!!
🤗
Very good video. I appreciate that you’ve shared with so much inspiring books
I enjoyed this video and many others. Mahali for the inspiration! ❤ Also I'd be interested in the drawing heads book personally. I miss having a library since I've moved to a very humid place, so this video helped me live vicariously through you. :)
So glad to hear that! Thank you!
Something different and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Love love love art books. Thanks!

Dear Sandi Thank you for sharing your favorite art books. Loved to see this video! Thought you might like one of my favorite books aswell: Xenia Hausner "You & I" Editor is "Prestel".
So glad you enjoyed it Lisa! Yes - thank you for sharing!!!
So glad you enjoyed it Catherine!!
Just looked up that book 😍 - pretty sure I’m going to be purchasing it! Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words!
Awe - thanks so much!!!!
You are soooo awesome❤️
I love fridays so much!!
I’m so glad Amanda!
Love book videos, I ordered a biography about Lilias Trotter and another one about “seeing”
I do too Michelle! Hope you enjoy the Lilias one!
This is a beautiful collection of art books ! I always watch your video when it pops up on Friday but I’m in bed so I always forget to leave a comment :/
So glad you liked them!
