Thanks for taking the time to make this. I am a new scroller and my first cuts looked like they were chewed by a beaver. You are right about watching people on YT who have thousands of hours of practice making it look so easy. I think slowing it down and practicing with your example sheet and videos will get me there. Lots of practice ahead.
Thanks for providing both verbal instruction as well as visual examples. It is obvious that you are a patient instructor. Novice scrollers who aspire to becoming experienced scrollers, like myself, appreciate the basic information with the added tips you give.
Excellent tutorial in terms of both content and tone (love the whole “it takes as long as it takes, you’re not trying to impress anyone” approach).
Thank you for these videos. I am a square one beginner, and being able to watch and rewatch your demos is empowering.
Thank you for your excellent cutting tutorial. As a new scroller I needed that. Boy, you’re GOOD with that saw!
Thank you! I appreciate that you demonstrate and thoroughly explain why one wouldn't or would want to do certain things (like with the drill press). Very informative, excellent teaching.
That was the best tutorial. I haven't used my scroll saw in over a year so I am rusty - so glad for your expertise. Thanks for sharing, I learned a lot!
Hey Bob, thank you for taking the time and effort for such an excellent tutorial (and pattern template) for cutting different patterns on the scroll saw. You cover so much in your instructions that any reasonable person would give you a THUMBS UP. Can't wait to get to my saw with your pattern and hope to graduate asap.
Thanks so much for this video!! I was going to return it because I couldn’t cut properly, but now I know that it is a common issue, I have learned to control it! Thanks once again!
Just got my 1st scroll saw. I've been a woodworker for 10 years. So happy I found your RUclips channel. You're appreciated
Your lessons are exceptional. Just bought my scroll saw a month ago and i found your videos very learnable and inspiring. My idle hand days are over
Thank you. Just got a scroll saw for my birthday and looking forward to some fun!! Great tutorial!
Thank you for for making this video. It is a great help. I recently inherited a scroll saw from my grandfather and your video really helped me answer a lot of questions before getting started on my own projects.
Thank you so much, Bob! I got a scroll saw for my shop a few months ago, for me and to have a saw the kids could use for small projects. Even after buying a book about scroll saws, I still had a lot of questions and doubts--you've answered all of them, and then some. This video/link should come with any scroll saw purchase, anywhere.
Thanks for the videos. I bought a scroll saw to cut out cars for my son's woodworking group at school. I hadn't really thought about what else it could do. Now i'm really inspired. Thanks heaps for explaining so well.
Thank you so much for these videos! I learned so much and appreciate how you encourage us to take our time...it's not a race. You're a great teacher! Thanks!
I’m just about to buy my first scroll saw. This vid was awesome, inspiring that I could do that sort work too. Thanks for making the vid.
Bob, thank you for the great beginner videos. I am a beginner, for sure....a 66 yr. old grandmother who has never done any type of woodworking. I have been searching to a good and helpul tutorial that starts me from the start. AND I found that here. Again, thank you.
Yes. I'm 62 and just got mine as well. Scroll sawing reminds me of using a sewing machine. Thank you
I just got a scroll saw and came across these part 1 and 2 tutorials. THANK YOU! you have given me some great basic information that I needed. I am looking forward to practicing on your patterns. I love the tip of using the painters tape under the sticky pattern. i'm going to use that tip on my Harbor Freight circular sander part so I can take off the sanding disc easy. I hope to see more of your videos.
YOU ARE THE BEST PROFESSOR I EVER SEEN. TANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
Totally agree with you. I am showing the video to my students.
I just bought a scroll saw, and I watched your videos. I feel like I can open the box now and have an idea of what I am doing. Thanks for putting this together.
I just got my first scroll saw and found this video very supportive and informative. Thank you for posting!
I'm pleased you mentioned about constantly having to steer to get a straight line, as I thought it might be my saw. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for this great tutorial. Your explanations and demonstrations is a huge help for a first time scroller like me. I've made several prints of your cutting guide to practice on.
Thanks for the videos Bob I appreciate the hard work and effort you put into making them. My scroll saw just got delivered a couple of hours ago and not even out of the box so hopefully what some of the content you have tried to teach has sunk in but preparing myself for several broken blades and chewed up wood as I get the hang of it.
Really great tutorial as well as another one I saw of yours where you showed sticking a template on the wood. Thank you for taking the time to create this and share it with us all.
I have just retired and have decided to (scroll) as a hobby. The information and tips you give on your videos have helped me greatly. Thank you very much. I will continue to watch more videos.
Thank you for taking your time to make this video, some people have been doing this so long (you), that they forget that some of those techniques are not obvious to us beginners. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, it helped me to IMMEDIATELY make better cuts.
Thank you for this. I can't wait to get started. You have made it less intimidating. I love the tip on the sharp corners.
Thank you for the demonstrations. It's really great to know that it is standard to not be able to run a straight line with the blade as well as the reminder to not beat myself up when my first cuts (for some reason) just don't look like the the pro's in the videos. Those things are frustrating.
This is a really great video. Everything was explained very well. I just picked up a small scroll saw from my mother's house as she was cleaning it out, and I have a Bladerunner I've only used for straight cuts. I don't know where else I'd be able to go to "learn" how to use a scroll saw. Thank you for sharing.
Your videos are excellent, I am an avid woodworking fanatic from the u.k and I am really tempted to try getting into the scroll saw. Your lessons have helped me decide to go for it so thanks a million matey!!!! Subscriber gained!!!!!
Wow, you do beautiful work. You are a true artist!
13:50 "I'm not trying to impress anybody" hahahaha, you're a beast man! Thanks for the awesome tutorial!!!
Im new at scroll sawing, and i must say your videos have helped me a lot. Thank you sir.
Great teaching! Clear explanations and reasons why beginners give it up so easily, ie. blades cutting to the right hand side.
Good dialogue, clear instruction and encouragement. All for free! THank You
I've come back to view your videos again..I always learn something, even from the early stages that you take learners through..
Your patience in showing us how to properly use a scroll saw is very appreciated. You take the time necessary to each portion of the practice board. Unlike those who speed through the process, your method allows us to actually see possible difficult areas. I take this to heart. Thanks for your work. Just got my saw and am anxious to get started.
David Damico Thanks David, I appreciate the comment and congrats on the new saw.
This was great! My husband and I just purchased a scroll saw and we're really chomping at the bit to get started on projects, but I'm always concerned about safety and proper tool usage. Thank you so much for posting such fun and informative videos (pt 1&2).
Larah McKay Thanks Larah, I'm glad you and your husband found my videos useful.
Wow, what a lot of great detailed instruction. Thank you so much. I'll be using a scroll saw for the first time for a project soon and this video has been very useful in giving me the basics I'll need to use the saw correctly. Thanks for uploading.
I cannot thank you enough. I just started my first set of corbels. they have several layers and are a little detailed with a LOT of curves. I would consider myself an intermediate woodworker so I put a 1/4 blade on my bandsaw to do the detail work (I had contemplated getting out my scroll saw). I was so frustrating and I ruined a piece already. it is obvious now I should have used the scroll saw. thank you!
Very good info! Thanks for helping out the starters...the more people we can get making sawdust, the better it is for the hobby!
Thank you for this. The hints you provide as you are working make a big difference.
I must say, I am VERY impressed with your cutting skills. You definetly make it look easy! I just inherited all of my grandmother's woodworking tools and machines and over the past couple of weeks i have been setting everything up in my shop at home. I can tell this is going to be my new hobby.
***** Hey Ben, actually it is easy, with a little practice, you will be cutting like me in no time. Enjoy your new hobby and if you have any questions just ask. Bob
I really enjoyed your video. I have been doing scroll saw work for over twenty years but its always good, or I feel as though it is good to see what other people do and how they do it. Its an excellent video and thank you.
+Daniel Choate Thank you, Daniel. I really appreciate your comment. Bob
good on you Iam just sterting and this stupid blade is completly berzec , going everiwhere but not in straigh t line
Dear Bob, thanx for this very helpfull tutorial. You are a gentle and modest man, credits for that!
Thank you, Erik, I'm glad you enjoyed the video....Bob
Well this was comforting. I have to do a project at school using a scroll saw and that thing is kind of intimidating. Now that I see how easy it is, its definitely calming my nerves.
Same!!!
Oh my, I needed to learn I could do top feed.. newbie here. I spent most of class time undoing, yrhreading blade from bottom.broke first blade today. Thank you for this great class
U made me cry no bs....i have bought table saws (3) bandsaw (2) jigsaw(2) miter saw (2) rockwell table saw (1) routers (3) drill press and my first scroll saw after learning and crying from frustration cause i could never cut str8 on a cpl just to torture myself machines you say the most stress relieving words"ull never cut str8 its just not possible" and then explained why i burst into tears. Thank you from the bottom of my heart thank you.
Hi Dulce, I'm glad I could help! Good luck with your scroll saw...Bob
great video for showing beginners where to start, just what i was looking for, thanks bob
Wow! I just love your videos! Thank you so much for your expertise and fabulous way of explaining and sharing your knowledge. I was just trying to find out how a scroll saw works and now, after seeing your videos I want to purchase one! Thank you, again!!!
Thank You for the video and the Practice Cutting Guides both have been a great start for me
Watched one and two and moving to three. Fabulous videos for someone that has never used a scroll saw!!!!!
Thank you, I am so going to use these techniques as I just got a scroll saw and have been baffled as to how to get some of this to work.
Hi Bob, thanks so much. I have been doing woodwork for quite a few years but new to scroll sawing. Your videos explain every thing so well.
Hi Gary, Thanks for the comment, I always love it when I can help experienced woodworks expand their abilities. Good luck and enjoy the scrolling...Bob
I just bought a second hand Hitachi cw40 and wanting to learn scroll cutting. Excellent video!!!
Your work so inspiring. I wish to learn more of your advanced techniques.
Excellent video! I had always wondered how to make these cuts or if I could make these cuts. So, I have put off using my scroll saw, thank you for taking the time to show and explain these cuts.
This was very helpful. Thank you for letting me view these tips.
Appreciate the cutting practice template and the videos, Bob. I just got a DW788 and used these to practice on before I moved on to some simple ornaments and what not.
Justin Stephen Hey Justin, congrats on getting a great saw, I'm glad you were able to get some use out of the guide. Welcome to your new hobby and have fun with it.
Bob
Thanks! salvaged a scroll from the 90s that was going to be thrown out so this really helps a lot! It is a beautiful tool. Your video gives me confidence! Thank you.
Hi, David, congrats on the new scroll saw. My first saw was one I got on Craigslist for $10.00 it was old and a pain in the ass to use, but I used it for two years and I made lots of awesome stuff with it. I've upgraded since then, but I still have the original as a back-up. Good luck and have fun with your new hobby...Bob
This tutorial was very usefull to me. I did it all and finally with acceptable results. It is a real good technique to keep in mind and it sure helped me to give me enough confidence to finish my first scroll saw puzzle.
Thank you very much! :)
Very helpful! Very clear examples taken nice and slow! Thank you! (Now I feel like I can finally attempt to use the scroll saw my father-in-law gave me for my birthday!)
this was invaluable!!! I recently purchased a used scroll saw to "learn and practice" on. I had no idea how to get started, but I knew what I wanted to do. I just happened to be looking up videos and found you! Thank you so much. Just this simple demonstration showed me so many possibilities. I'm still a "noob" wood worker, but I enjoy making things with my hands and giving things to people that I have created. I'm going to print several copies of the guide and get busy!!! Thank you again for helping others like me out!! You do such beautiful work!! Deb
Thank you for your comment, Debra! I'm glad my videos have helped you expand your woodworking knowledge. The scroll saw allows for lots of fun and creativity. Let me know if you ever have any question...Bob
I like how you emphasize taking your time and staying on the line.
Thanks Bob, brilliant informative++ and inspirational.
Well I got my first scroll saw last week single speed delta, today I brought a pattern out glued it to my 3/8 piece of plywood and WOW was I in for a surprise on how hard it is to follow a line LOL I will be practicing on your pattern for sure.

Thanks for the great video!!!

Woops?!?! LOL. Good to see that even an expert slips up once in awhile. Excellent videos. I like that you get to the point and not give a long narrative essay beforehand. Thanks for the videos.
I am tempted to go out and buy a scroll saw. Great instructions.
Cheers
Albert
Albert Furtado Hey Albert, go find yourself a cheap used scrollsaw to see if this is something you want to do, honestly, I can't see why anybody wouldn't fall in love with scrolling! Good Luck.

abdulla
Abdulla Nurmohamed I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial Abdulla, good luck with your new hobby and keep checking back here, I have more videos planned. Bob
Thank you for the advice, very good and easy to follow.
Millan, I have not used a Craftsman scroll saw before, but I have had a few different brands and I never had to re-tension on changing holes. I would recommend going over the manual for the saw to make sure you are not "Missing something". Maybe someone here that owns the same saw can help better than I can and offer a suggestion. I will say that a new blade will stretch a little bit when first installed and may need to be re-tensioned after a few minutes of use, but not after every hole.
Thank you very much for the loop tip! Really helpful!
Thank you so much for your demonstrations and instruction. You cleared up a lot for me.
Thanks very much for these videos on the basics Bob, very helpful. Just got my first scroll saw this afternoon and this is a great headstart.
Cheers!
Congrats Pete! Hope you enjoy your new saw and hobby as much as I do.
Thanks Albert I'll be using your tutorial with my scroll saw.
This in wonderful info for a beginner like me Thank you.
