    Very informative, even for a veteran scroller. One point of personal preference for me is my belief that there is a definite positive effect created by Pegas Modified Geometry blades over other blades. There are many good blades on the market and matching your blade choice to wood type and the demands of the scrolling task is a big part of achieving a successful result. Given that quality blades, such as the Pegas GM blades and others that you identify, are not a high-cost issue, I would always go with the best blades that you can buy. An interesting and well-done video.

      Bob, I definitely agree. The pegas MG blades and other modern designs are worth the small price bump for performance. Before I made this video I had a poor experience with a batch of pegas MG blades and was not very enthusiastic about the brand in particular. Since then I've had good experience with both the MG and their skip reverse blades and they are probably my most-used brand right now.

    This is extremely timely! I’m about to order a Pegas saw, and I was thinking of ordering a bunch of Pegas blades at the same time, but hearing that you’re not 100% convinced by the hype around those blades, I’ll probably just start with a small sample pack and see what I think. Back when I had a dewalt saw, I was always happy with Flying Dutchman, and for some weird reason I’ve never really tried the Olson blades, possibly because when I first started scroll sawing someone had already recommended the Flying Dutchman blades so I just went with those! Thanks so much for giving actual concrete opinions based on your experience; even if my findings end up being different, I find it super valuable to hear people’s specific experiences.

      Stella, I've had better luck recently with the last batches of pegas modified geometry I purchased but terrible experience with their spirals still. Flying Dutchman always work well for me. I think the olson precision ground tooth blades are my favorite general use blades now but flying Dutchman do great, too.
      Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts as well!

    Thanks for that, Ian. I use mainly the Online Blades from Judy Gale Roberts and they leave a nice finish on the sides of the wood. I mostly do intarsia. I’m not a fan of the Pegas blades and I’ve never tried FD, so from what you say, it looks like I should give it a shot. 👍🏻

      I didn't have good luck with pegas for a while but I've heard there have been QC issues so I gave them another shot and I've had a better experience when stack cutting baltic birch lately. FD are good quality and value so I'm happy to use them. Thanks for watching!

    Nice informative video. I've tried using spiral but I can't control them. I'm a flat blade scroller.

      I'm a flat blade guy myself unless there is no option but to use the spiral blade. I love how sharp you can make corners with the flat blades.

    I'm new to scroll sawing and I am working on chess pieces. Im using some thick white oak and purpleheart. Which blade do you recommend?

    • @ScrollSawCorner
      @ScrollSawCorner  2 года назад

      If I'm cutting thick hardwoods I usually use a number 3 or 5 skip tooth blade. Lately I really enjoy the pegas mgt and olson pgt in both #3 and #5

    Hi, I hope your still monitoring this page. I just started using a scroll saw on 1/4” mdf. Based on a lot of videos I’ve watched I bought a reverse blade for the smoother cut. I can not control the board I am feeding. The blade catches it on the up stroke and it bounces all over. Am I doing something wrong? I even tried stack cutting and that didn’t work. I went as slow as possible and that didn’t work. Guidance required.

      Harold, I don't think you need a reverse blade for mdf. They usually help prevent tearout on plywood and solid woods. 1/4" is a little thin for cutting a single layer sometimes but I wouldn't think it should be that crazy. I would try to start with using a regular non-reverse blade and check your tension. See if that helps.

    Hi & I`m finding your Video very informative.,can you tell me what would you suggest for "2 x 2" x 4" length Pine , cutting out Compound Christmas decorations in say Olsen pinless blades?

    • @ScrollSawCorner
      @ScrollSawCorner  8 месяцев назад

      I'd try a number 5 pgt or skip tooth reverse in the olson first. 2x2 is pretty thick for a scroll saw so clearing the dust is going to be important. Take it slow and back off from your cuts frequently to give the blade time to move the dust out. Good luck!

    Good afternoon... where can I buy this type of blade... I'm thinking of buying a scroll saw ryobi srw 1240g what do you think about this model... I haven't bought any scroll saw yet

    • @ScrollSawCorner
      @ScrollSawCorner  Год назад +1

      Blades come from a variety of places depending on where you live. I buy some online and some at local woodcraft stores. I think the ryobi models are OK for new users but they have more vibration and less features than higher end ones.
      Enjoy!

    • @ScrollSawCorner
      @ScrollSawCorner  3 года назад +1

      Hi Dan, I haven't personally cut much metals on the scroll saw but I hear a number 3 polar (regular tooth, not reverse) at a slow speed is adequate for the task. This is what I've had recommended by members in my club who scroll non ferrous metals.
