Thank you! Your tutorials have been very helpful and informative! Excited to begin using my new Scroll Saw. Thanks for posting your videos, you are a great teacher and really awesome at what you do!
My kids have grown up and gone to a different city, where their jobs have taken them. Now my wife and myself are left in the house. I am a furniture designer and I have a workshop where I go to work. So my wife wanted to do something interesting and useful during the day instead of sitting and watching the T.V. the whole day. So I bought her a Dremel moto saw. I taught her a few things, but the best part is she was impressed with your video tutorials and is now taking active interest in learning the scroll saw. Thank you for simple and clear instructions. Thanks once again.
vijay kunchum Vijay, comments like this make all the time and effort that goes into making these videos more than worth it. Thank You! I wish you and your wife the best and if she has any questions just send me an email bob.scrollsawparadise@gmail.com I will be more than happy to help.
Hubby just bought me my first scroll saw....YAY!....so I'm watching your vids before trying some practice cuts in preparation for the first project using the new saw. Thanks for thinking of all the newbies out here!
I'm usually very disappointed with RUclips "tutorial" videos because most are clueless on how to present information in a way that can be absorbed by the viewer without having to replay the video, but watching your video has been a real treat, very well done, patiently delivered and slowly demonstrated for the viewer to grasp the first time. I'm very happy to have picked your video as my first "how to scroll" tutorial for beginners. Just in this video alone I learned something that happened to me yesterday when practicing on my new scroll saw, I drilled holes and tore the backs of them and thought maybe I should use a larger drill. Now I know exactly what I did wrong! I can't wait to view your other videos, and before I forget, THANK YOU for taking time to teach us on the web how to use equipment properly, its very much appreciated.
just watched your 3 tutorials for beginners, I really appreciate the time you took going over so many things. great job and thanks for your time and info.
Hey Bob, thank you so much for the tutorial in Part 1 of your scroll saw series regarding the drilling of a hole without tear out on the board. As an novice that only uses drills infrequently, I wish I had known this technique many times in the past. Look forward to Part 2 of the series.
I just got the scroll sew for my Christmas gift. I love your video and show how to practice cutting wood skills. Thank you very much for sharing! Happy New Year!
Have these videos saved to a playlist. Looks like a great way to relax and make a little extra $ in your spare time. Plus it takes up very little room in the garage or shop. Not all of us habe or can build a regular shop. Scroll saw work looks like it can be done anywhere you can build a work bench.
Thanks for posting. Years ago I bought a brand new Hitachi CW40. Due to health reasons, about that time, it has never been out of the box. Looks like maybe I should open it up.
Okay so I'm in Industrial Tech in school, and we were supposed to watch videos on scroll saws and stuff and i just wanted to tell you thank you for this vide. I learned quite a bit. Thanks again!
boo boo Hey hey boo boo!...sorry couldn't resist ;-)...Your Welcome, I'm really glad my videos have helped you, thats why I made them. IScrolling is a great hobby and can bring out creativity in people that they might not have known they had. If you have any questions just shoot me an email bob.scrollsawparadise@gmail.com Bob
I am really excited to watch the other parts of this video series. I'm brand new to scroll saw cutting and am so grateful you're starting with the absolute basics here. Thank you!
I just bought a brand new scroll saw for art projects. The video was great ! I can't wait to do my first project. I'm going to practice first and the back board is a excellent idea, no tear/always!.:) thanks again !
Perfect teaching, thanks sir! Very clear, great real-life examples and this goes for all of your videos. Can't wait to get started myself now. Best regards from the Netherlands
your beginner series is so incredibly helpful. thank you for taking the time to film, talk through basic things liek the drilling and post them! I also went through a couple of your practice sheets disastrously before I could finally finish the final
Awesome! Just got my new Dewalt 788 scroll saw this week. Been practicing and enjoying it. Your videos are wonderful for beginners like me! Thanks for a great job!
Very nicely explained. Also you showed some tips that the other vids don't show, for example I didn't know what kind of glue to use to stick plans to the product wood, also backing the blade up against its back side to make the 90 deg corner and all the rest. Thanks so much!
I bought my scroll saw back before there was the internet. I have never been able to really do anything with it. Every once in awhile I would get a wild hair pull it out, break a few blades and put it back up. Last night I went to Lowe's and got some blades. Today I learned I got the wrong ones. I got the spiral blades, because I remember they were suppose to go in any direction. You did not say but I am thinking it must be for some really thin wood. I have to get some No. 3 blades. Thanks for making the video's ! I think they are going to help.
+William Wynn Hey William, many people will use spiral blades for everything and love them, I don't. It's more of a personal preference. I prefer the smooth lines and edges that you get with flat blades. The only time I will use a spiral blade is for very large projects and that is rare. Any blade you can find #7 or below should work for you. I would not worry too much about the numbers until you figure out the direction your scrolling will take. Good Luck and Have Fun , Bob
+ScrollSawParadise Hey thanks for writing back ! I found some old blades. I am going to have to get me a magnifying glass. Gettin old suxs. I tried the wavy line, for the most part I stayed on line. But the end result was very rough. It would have needed a lot of sanding. I was cutting a 1 X 4 pine. Just wondering if another type of wood better ? Mainly I what I want to do is make a decorative design for things like bookshelves or cabinets. The more I look into the things you can make with the scroll saw the more it interests me. The fretwork , not sure what it is called but you cut out different shapes to make a picture.
Sir that was one of the best beginner videos I've seen yet. I am very new to this scroll sawing , and your knowledge was very helpful. Thank you so much.
That was kool, I did not know about the backer board, learned some thing new today....Thank You! As well about the turning on the board for the scroll saw......
Great Vids!!!! Learned alot!! I work at SEARS in the tool dept. so I have access to pretty much all the parts and accessories I will need to get started.
This was really interesting. I have been watching Makers Monday and have been wondering what a Scrolling Saw is. I am not a Maker, I am a retired RN. You are explaining things very well. Thank you.
If you tell your teacher the benefits of slowing the saws down to 50-60% of max, longer blade life, easier to stay on your line and less wear and tear on the machine, maybe they will give you a better grade! Good luck and have fun with your schooling...Bob
Thank you for your very informative video. I have a scroll saw and hoped to use it for cutting out multiple templates from foam core, however; most of my cuts are straight cuts - so I don't think this is my best choice. I am not great with a craft knife and will look for some other options.
Tim Ng Hi Tim, I'm glad my video helped. I'm impressed that you are making this effort to figure out why the blade broke and try to resolve the problem. Good luck with wood shop and if you have any other problems or question please feel free to leave a comment. Bob Scroll Saw Paradise
Any recommendations or things to look out for when buying a scroll saw please? My kids will also be using it, ages 6 and 8. Maybe just things to look out for rather than recommending a certain product as I'm in South Africa and not sure if I'll get the brand here.
I am looking at buying a scroll saw.... I have seen a " Delta " that is " box like "and all green for sale. Does anyone know what this is ? Which model ?
Really interesting, thanks for a great tutorial. We have a Hegner Multicut which just humms when turned on. No movement in the mechanism. It´s too bad, and means we´re not able to use this great tool. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it, based on that rather thin description?
Hi Diane, Thanks! As far as the blue (or green) painters tape, any brand will work. I should have said this in the video, there are several different tapes you can use, packing tape and masking tape work as well, just to name a few.
i'm using scroll saw a bit over a month already and i kind of got used with it. ive made some easy and difficult projects too, but today i had to use an 25 teeth per inch saw blade and the blade keeps turning left and right while i cut. it didnt happen to me before and doesnt happen with thicker blade as well. can you please tell what i might be doing wrong? maybe i should try to tighten a bit more? i released it when i started to use 127mm blades as i couldnt find 133mm what fits to my scroll saw, but the machine allows me to use shorter blades by releasing a nut.
+emiljan alhysa This is a problem I have also had when using very small 2/0 blades. You need to tighten the tension as much as you can without breaking the blade, that might help. The better thing to do, if you can, is to use a size #1 blade instead. I stopped buying 2/0 blades because of the problems you are having and I find that everything I thought I needed to do with a 2/0 blade, I can do with a #1 just as well and without the frustration. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, but it is what it is.
I was wondering why there are no attachment on a scroll saw to cut a perfect straight line? Things like a band saw has to make straight cuts. i.e., rip fence, miter gauge. Is there a reason it doesn't have any? Or even are there scrolls saws that have a rip fence/miter gauge? I certainly haven't seen any.
I've always wanted to do scroll cutting and I finally have the room, time and money to buy the saw and give it a go. Is there any brand or other equipment I should get?
Jason Berry Actually Jason, it's not a stupid question. If this is a hobby that you want to do, you need to know what materials to use. Fortunately a scroll saw will not only cut any type of wood, but many people cut thin metals, acrylic plastics and even coins. With wood cutting, you want your wood to be no thicker than 1 1/2" thick. Most scrollsaw work is done with 3/4" thick wood and less. You can use expensive exotic hardwoods, find free wood from pallets or out of dumpsters, get wood off of Craigslist or Ebay or get some Oak, Poplar or off the shelf plywood from home depot. What really determines the type of wood you are going to use is the type of projects you are doing. So figuring out what you want to make will determine the wood you use.

Is it safe to attempt to turn curves too short for the blade🤓🤓🤓
Very useful information thank you
I like this guy.... he hasn't forgotten the video is about 'me' not him.
excellent video, I just want to know which "blue tape" you use to put on top of the wood?

Hi there,
hopefully some one can answer my question. I have a scroll saw that uses 133mm blades. Can I replace them with 130mm ones or it won't work?
No worries, the 130's will work fine...Bob
Thank you so much. That's the answer I was hoping to get :)
Worth the money
i love your work and u u so great

I guess that samw principle od avoiding tearots when drilling can bw used when cutting wood with handsaw.
Thank you really informative.

good info
Thanks this helped allot.
i like the pattern box cool

Just thank you!
thia is a stupid q but here go's what type of wood .material do u scroll saw with pliz.
What really determines the type of wood you are going to use is the type of projects you are doing. So figuring out what you want to make will determine the wood you use.
thanks for making this video
