Did anyone else choke up a bit at the end when Doug was talking with his parents? This year will be the first he has without his mother... Rest In Peace, Mrs. Walker, and here's hoping Doug and his family find some joy in this holiday season. ❤️
The ending is wrong and bad we all know we should have "shut that door" Merry Christmas though let's enjoy this time with the people we care the most, as they won't be around forever.

Even years later this still brings a tear to my eye and it truly shows that even during his worst moments Doug is genuinely a good man who just makes some mistakes and he still means well and wants to spread a good message.
It was also a big reason why war propaganda became so popular. You need soldiers who believe the enemy is essence of evil so they don’t stop fighting them.
I can't get through the final message without tearing up especially since Doug's mom has passed. She was clearly an amazing woman who was very deeply loved

the speech at the end of the video had me on the edge of tears, but when he started talking to his parents, I actually did cry. Doug, you really do know the meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.
"You always win when you are good." Wow. What a wonderful message. Really well thought out and sincere. This review ranks up there with "The Room" as among Doug's funniest.
Just came back from Channel Awesome's website (to watch the Nostalgia Critic episode like I usually do on Tuesdays, then come back here on youtube to watch on Wednesdays because you guys give me so much joy) and omg I didn't expect to be cry like that... I had to come here and watch this episode in its entirety. I can't imagine what a loss like that must feel like but I wish your family well Doug during this Christmas season. The whole, "You always win when you are good," is such a stupid strawman message to give to children, especially for this movie... First off, this movie has been about ORPHANS who LOST their parents (that probably died) and, for what we can see, seem to be pretty well behaved and good kids. One can argue that before the kids lost their parents that they all could've been spoiled little brats and /somehow/ became very selfless once their parent's died and they were sent to live with this bitch of a caretaker, but still... Were the kids once upon a time very bad children and therefore deserved to lose their parents because of it?
Bloody Belle so, you're saying they all lost their parents because of karma? Statistically speaking, that's not very probable. They couldn't have all been spoiled.
I bought this DVD for a dollar at a bargain store like 15 years ago and watched it once and then never again it was that bad. It's sad when you pay only a dollar for a DVD Christmas movie and feel like you wasted money, time and so much more. I so regret buying this and it's something that you can't unsee.
No joke, I saw the actual DVD of this heinous special at Goodwill. Much later during my next visit there, I saw that it was gone. I feel sorry for the poor, lost soul who bought it.
I dunno. Both are abysmal, but if there’s anything good to say about Santa Inc., it’s that there was effort put into the stop-motion animation. No effort of any kind was put into this special, whereas Santa Inc. is terrible due to unnecessary and heavy-handed political pandering with awful humor
@@curiousguyontheinternet9023 agreed. With the Christmas tree,Santa Inc and rapsittie street kids, it's like trying to pick your least favorite deadly disease. Like, would I prefer Marburg virus, ebola or rabies? That's how I feel about these films
Surprised he didn't comment on 20:11. WTH is Lily doing there? Isn't she still missing??? ETA: Just saw 23:01. I guess they reused that bit for budgeting purposes. Who cares about consistency???
Jessica Meloy and a very visually protective mother for that matter. She forbade Doug from seeing the Garbage Pail Kids movie when that film was new at the theaters
+Donald Grump (CEO of Trash Co.) because of delay.. you know, the reaction time.. for example if you are driving a car and see something that makes you feel like you should stop.. the time between you seeing the reason why and the moment you actually start doing something about it.. that delay is about 2 seconds (mostly under that time but some seem to be slower)
I hate Christmas due to it being the time of year my mother was the most abusive and neglectful. I listen to Christmas music and have mini flash backs to the shitstorm that was the holidays. I stumbled upon this review by accident today and the ending... It makes me want to enjoy Christmas, and now that I'm living on my own that might just happen. I am looking forward to Christmas this year and I want to thank you for reminding me that Christmas is supposed to be good, and for teaching me something more about what Christmas really means. Regardless of if you see this or not, Happy holidays Critic and Crew. May fortune follow you wherever you go.
I come back to this review every year, and it never fails to touch my heart. Doug absolutely nails it in his speech. And it also touches my heart reading your comment. Seeing someone who has a reason to hate the holiday given new reason to make it a happy time of the year. And I hope that happens, too. A Merry Christmas to you, and hopefully many more to come.
LunaticThinker 10:10 Inebriated Klux Klansman 1: Hey fellow Klux Klanstrumps. I got a great idea! Let’s kill the NRA! Inebriated Klux Klansman 2: Yeah, I’m on board with that! How did you come up with this? Inebriated Klux Klansman 1: I got the idea from while I was watching the Christmas Tree, while burning a cross that had a tree and drinking 2 gallons of Bud Light. Anyone else who’s with me, go drink the Bud Light and watch the Christmas Tree! Inebriated Klux Klansmen: Yeah! Alright! Let’s go drink 2 gallons of Bud Light and burn down the NRA and Fox News while we watch the Christmas Tree!
Just noticed something that I had never noticed about this special until now: In the opening scenes of the animation, it's clearly states that Mrs. Mavilda has been tricking the Mayor into believing she was using the Mayor's stipends to buy new clothes for the orphans; however, in the scene where the Mayor gives Mrs. Mavilda MORE moneybags he mentions that he hopes Mrs. Mavilda will use the new allowance to "make sure the children don't spend another Winter in PATCHES AND RAGS"!! Soooo, either the storyboard director had a stroke and forgot the previous scene existed....or the Mayor secretly KNEW about Mrs. Mavilda's misappropriation crimes and just either didn't care or was complicit. Either way, this special blows hippo turds!!
and to preserve continuity of the series (Dr. Smith is/was supposedly Nostalgia Critic's abusive dad), they decided to add the line (for Doug's real life parents): "who the hell was this guy?" (and to return it to funny)
Im so thankful this reivew exists. Watching this video has become a tradition for my husband and I. Every year we HAVE to watch The Grinch, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, and this reveiw 😂😭 so thank you for blessing our lives with this. We will NEVER watch the "special", but your review has given us so much Joy 🤣❤️
Not to mention the fact that Lily is in that shot. Isn't she still missing at that point??? The substandard acting/writing/animation is one thing, but that kind of sloppy inattention to detail is absolutely inexcusable, IMO, and as Doug said, is a blatant example of a lack of effort.
Alternate ending: Mrs. Mavilda is assassinated by the Dark Brotherhood! Update: For those who don't get the joke, there's a cruel and abusive Orphanage owner in Elder Scrolls 5 (ironically named Grelod the Kind) and you're hired as an assassin of the Dark Brotherhood to murder her in her own orphanage!
absolutely! I rly like how the whole family was included! cause I think thats what its all about. friends and family. or maybe your friends are your family. it´s about the people you care most about and thats how it should be imho ;)
The Channel Awesome Nostalgia Critic series is something I very routinely go back to. It doesn't stop making me laugh and reminds me so much of better days. Thank you, Nostalgia Critic. You remember so I can remember it, too.
Holy shit I just realized something , the Mayor in this is Old Man from Phelous , no seriously they look identical, his voice even turns into the Old Man voice at the end.
Dalibor Jovanovic I know it's been a year so you've probably forgotten this comment but Phelous did a review of this movie as well. The mayor and Old Man are "cousins"
Everything looked half-assed. Bad animation, horrible acting, terrible plot, pointless moral. It was absolutely horrible. It seemed like this movie was made by kids who still believed in Santa. Also, the Santa in this special looks exactly like the Coca-Cola Santa. It's creepy. Also, the whole basis of the orphans being under the control by Mrs. Mavilda is exactly like Annie. Sounds like plagiarism to me.
I just realized something, the beginning of the movie was the FIRST SIGN IT WAS GOING TO BE A BAD MOVIE because it broke the NUMBER 1 rule in storytelling, show, don’t tell. The narrator FLATOUT told us that Mrs. Mevillda is evil. He should’ve left that out and let us see this for ourselves. Like, let’s take an example from Marvel, in their storyline, Messiah Wars (which is one of their weakest storylines, in my opinion), there was ONE THING ABOUT CABLE, he was poor. The text boxes didn’t tell us nor Cable himself didn’t see it, instead we can conclude that because they show him doing things suggesting he is poor such as eating out of trash cans, not putting clothes on his adoptive infant daughter, Hope, and having to use old clothes as diapers. That evidence alone told us that he’s poor, Marvel didn’t have to tell us, instead they showed us. See? It would’ve worked better if we figured out Mevillda was evil ourselves. Also, I have a question, who was the intended target audience, it’s clearly not for kids because of the gambling and drinking scenes and Mrs. Mevillda having a hangover at some point. And it’s not for adults because it’s insulting to our intelligence. So, WHO IS THIS FOR EXACTLY?! Also, where’s Mr. Mevillda? Given she’s Mrs. Mevillda, this suggests that she’s married. So, where’s her husband? Well, given she’s evil, she likely killed him. Or he left her because who would want to be with a woman like her? Ugh, this movie is so terrible and has many MISSING PIECES.
Maybe this Special was made by the same people who made Garbage Pail Kids Movie. Because they are so stupid that they don't know the fucking difference between gas powered and electric powered.
I agree with the Critic and his mother. Christmas is about putting maximum effort into it. And I can relate to having a bad time on Christmas. Around two or so weeks after the 2014 holiday season ended, I lost my grandfather. I was so upset that I had a breakdown in the middle of English class and had to be sent home to vent. And now I've moved and will soon be having my first Christmas in an alien environment, but through it all, I AM STAYING STRONG, and putting maximum effort into enjoying this most joyous of seasons and at the end of the day, THAT is all I can give. So whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I want all of you to put in as much effort as you can. To quote Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool: "Maximum Effort."
I don’t know what it is about this review but perhaps it’s the energy of NC’s first Christmas back combined with an exceptionally terrible Christmas movie that just combines to producing one of the funniest, most entertaining and most heartfelt things Doug had ever put out. The Nutcracker review really gives this one a run for it’s money in terms of the effort Doug put into that to make it memorable but something about this is just a lot more, dare I say it, nostalgic.
This review is so good. The skits are good, the jokes are good, the heart is there and the ending is just so sweet. I have been watching since 2008 and christmas isn't the same without Doug Walker and the gang.
Watch this every year, and it always gets me when you meet hi parents. Doug looks so much like his mother, and it broke my heart when I heard she passed. Merry Christmas to the whole Walker family.
The budget was extremely small for this movie wasn't it. They look like those precious moments kids went wrong. But I guess at least they tried. But Critics review of this was too funny.
I could do better stop motion with all of my grandma's precious moments. I'm not even kidding, she has like over a hundred of them. And that's just the ones that are out.

Doug: “What about you? You got a movie quote?”
Me: “Sure. SHUT THAT DOOR!”
No joke, I saw the actual DVD of this heinous special at Goodwill. Much later during my next visit there, I saw that it was gone. I feel sorry for the poor, lost soul who bought it.
they probably just threw it out to make room for other items
Hannah 653 lmao its the beginning of Monsters Inc. all over again😂
Maybe a reviewer bought it to rip it a new one, nobody should have to play full price for this crap and end up actually _supporting_ it!
Looking back and seeing his mom in this almost makes me want to cry. She looks so sweet
And to think this is the first christmas he's going to have to celebrate without her, poor Doug, and Rob and and their dad too.. :(
I just heard about what happened to Doug's mother. I can't believe she passed away.
This really tears me apart
me either. this is the year of death aparelinty
How did everyone find out she passed? I couldn't Find a news Article or video about it.
it's the internet. u can find out somebody's bank account just by going to there YT account
What? Oh god, thats sad! :(
2013: This is the worst Christmas Special EVER!
2021: Santa Inc. is now the worst.
I dunno. Both are abysmal, but if there’s anything good to say about Santa Inc., it’s that there was effort put into the stop-motion animation. No effort of any kind was put into this special, whereas Santa Inc. is terrible due to unnecessary and heavy-handed political pandering with awful humor
@@curiousguyontheinternet9023no. Rapsittie street kids christmas is the worst
@@Styxswimmer We can agree, though, that these three Christmas specials are the worst to have ever been put out
@@curiousguyontheinternet9023 agreed.

Doug and Robs mom seemed like a very kind hearted lady. I hope the Walker family has a wonderful Christmas in memory of their awesome mom
Jessica Meloy and a very visually protective mother for that matter. She forbade Doug from seeing the Garbage Pail Kids movie when that film was new at the theaters

It took all of two seconds of the movie footage to tell this is going to be a terrible movie.
Why not both
Why not a millisecond?
+Donald Grump (CEO of Trash Co.) because of delay.. you know, the reaction time.. for example if you are driving a car and see something that makes you feel like you should stop.. the time between you seeing the reason why and the moment you actually start doing something about it.. that delay is about 2 seconds (mostly under that time but some seem to be slower)
Kummo (RRM) I saw the animation and my mind kind of just shut down for a bit there.
+Brendan Fligg Very true sadly... sobbing right now...
The ending is proof Doug should make a Christmas movie
Didn't he make like 3-4 shitty movies
Hopefully you regained from your experience
I am so sorry
Merry Christmas. I will pray for you
Rebel Scum I will too
May god bless your soul friend.

Alright! Let’s go drink 2 gallons of Bud Light and burn down the NRA and Fox News while we watch the Christmas Tree!
that speech you did at the end was amazing
When the evil lady got shocked I thought god was a player in this story.

I really hope the child actors from this movie eventually watch this video

The end of this is so heartwarming...
and to preserve continuity of the series (Dr.
20:11 Man they have so much emotion in their voice.

We come from the mayors...
Not to mention the fact that Lily is in that shot. Isn't she still missing at that point??? The substandard acting/writing/animation is one thing, but that kind of sloppy inattention to detail is absolutely inexcusable, IMO, and as Doug said, is a blatant example of a lack of effort.
Likes are at 69, just sayin'
Alternate ending: Mrs. Mavilda is assassinated by the Dark Brotherhood!
Update: For those who don't get the joke, there's a cruel and abusive Orphanage owner in Elder Scrolls 5 (ironically named Grelod the Kind) and you're hired as an assassin of the Dark Brotherhood to murder her in her own orphanage!
"Sweet Mother, sweet Mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized in blood and fear."

Fun story - I murdered her in front of the kids but not the other nord, and I totally got away with it. No bounty whatsoever.

absolutely! I rly like how the whole family was included! cause I think thats what its all about. friends and family. or maybe your friends are your family. it´s about the people you care most about and thats how it should be imho ;)

Dalibor Jovanovic I was thinking that😆
Everything looked half-assed. Sounds like plagiarism to me.
and the characters look like they are made out of dough or clay
Ah, but you see, it wasn't plagiarism! Because unlike Annie, Santa electrocuted the evil woman! (Jk it was definitely plagiarism)
At least Annie gave all the orphans *names* and separate identities.
And it's all anachronistic. 1930s cars mixed with 19th century clothing and 1970s TVs and FUCKING CHAINSAWS.
it might have been animated by the creators of food fight
This man’s passion about terrible stuff is truly inspiring.

Originally 2013
Here after The Nutcracker. RIP Mrs. Walker. Looks like I also have a new tradition.

To quote Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool: "Maximum Effort."
all I say to you is good luck.:-)
Declan Handley-Byrne I never thought I'd see a Deadpool quote in a heartfelt speech about Christmas.
Mando 314159 Fans will fan.

The budget was extremely small for this movie wasn't it. They look like those precious moments kids went wrong. But I guess at least they tried. But Critics review of this was too funny.
